Labyrinth - All Scenes of Jareth + Bonus-Scenes

- Hey everyone! I've decided to put all the scenes of David Bowie from "The Labyrinth" into one video so that you can enjoy our beloved majesty without interruption. Sadly, he has (excluding the songs) only about 10 minutes screen-time (even less)...
- บันเทิง
Sarah: "I wish to get rid of my brother"
Also Sarah: "I want him back"
Jareth: *visible confusion*
i'd be hella confused too lmao
Story of all siblings ever:
It’s something people do because they’re frustrated. They say things they didn’t mean. It’s not right, but it happens.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
lol yeah like girl if you want toby gone then let jareth take him
If I was Sarah I’d be like... uhh... what brother? Let’s get married
Yeah seriously he's absolutely gorgeous! 🤤🤤🤤🤤
Same
Metellis Cimber begging Julius Caesar for his brother’s penance.
That's what the Goblin Kind wanted, he had a fat crush on her towards the end of the film🤣🤣🤣
Same 😂😂
I have such a huge crush on David Bowie his character in the movie too is so attractive
Facts
Ooooohhhh so I WASN’T the only one.
Oh gosh yes he's beautiful! Absolute perfection. He's like the Male version of Mary Poppins practically perfect in every way.
I was so in love with him when this movie came out
@@painterdawn2 I still am.
This performance is definitely on my list of "villains who are literally the devil but I'm so turned on right now that I would let them murder me, or wife me, then murder me."
Which was a surprisingly popular fantasy character trope in the 80s. I blame that on this and Legend with Tim Curry.
WoW I should make a list like that lmao
Yep, it's always good to have. I also have my "god he's so stupid in this but I just want to kiss him" movie character crush list, the "he did nothing wrong and he deserved better" list, the "I don't care if you're emotionally unavailable, just take me now damn you" list, and probably my longest:
My aforementioned "they're definitely the worst people and irredeemable for their actions but damn it I want to marry them before they inevitably destroy me" list.
1. Jareth (Labyrinth)
2. Darkness (Legend)
3. Queen Akasha (Queen of the Damned)
4. Humbert Humbert (Lolita)
5. Valmont (Dangerous Liasons)
6. Candyman (Candyman)
7. Stanley (A Streetcar Named Desire)
8. Mr. Frost (Mister Frost)
9. Drexl Spivey (True Romance)
10. Debbie (Addams Family Values)
Also known as the "I'm cancelled on Twitter forever for some of these" list. But let's face it, we all have those 😋
@@sharonmcauley2582 [see replies]
Not really the devil. He’s just a fantasy of Sarah’s. A crush she had, and a guy her mother worked with in a play. She’s simply dreaming about being his love interest.
My favorite thing about Jareth is that he's not a goblin at all.
He's obviously a member of the Fair Folk. Back in the day, fairies/elves in classical mythology weren't a bunch of sparkling pixies to be taken lightly. They were powerful, enigmatic, and often NASTY. They don't have very much in the way of empathy, but they are very seductive and charistmatic.
Jareth embodies all of that and more. While most members of the Fair Folk get bored with humans easily, Jareth is so taken with Sarah he does everything he can to have her.
It also makes Sarah a great character, the fact that she can go through all of this, even rejecting everything Jareth offers, all for the sake of the brother she loves.
+MrImastinker I always thought that was part of her appeal to him, other girls would have taken the ball or gotten distracted. I still think he went after he when she was older and let her 'win' in the end because she was still a child.
If Jareth can make me his goblin queen and grant me immortality I'd take it! I'd choose that over some screaming squaling kid anyday!
@@jaja-cg9yd ^^Yup.
I think he fell in love with who she could be.
@@melissacooper4282then you are quite heartless. He probably wouldnt choose a fan girl.
He has such an interestingly beautiful voice and accent
I think interestingly beautiful is the perfect description on David Bowie.
Yes he had a very distinctive speaking voice.
His voice reminds me of someone else's but I can't remember who
I wish he would have done audio books
That’s just how the fae are lol
"I have turned the world upside down and I've done it all for you."
My favorite line out of the whole movie.
"I am exhausted from living up to your expectations.... Isn't that generous?"
"you starve and near exhaust me" heartbreaking 😭 but hes a big flirt someone join me in loving him
He didn’t do it for her he did it for him
I move the stars for noone...
My favorite is “everything I’ve done, I’ve done for you. I move the stars for no one”
Give me goosebumps everytime
I feel the reason this movie works so well is because Bowie took his part seriously. The further into the story we get, we watch Jareth grow more desperate to keep her in the Labyrinth. Comparing how playful and intimidating he is in his first scene to how sad and pleading he is in his final scene, the character has clearly gone on an emotional journey. One of my favorite shots in the film is when they're in the Escher maze, and right after the final line of "Within You," he looks so melancholy knowing that, no matter what he does, Sarah is going to get to Toby. Without his performance, the layers he applied to it, the character would feel empty and the story lifeless.
Man. There are so many reasons why this is my favorite movie.
There was NOTHING David could not do!
Why
@@hannahlarocco4699 Why?
Jareth: *is one of the most beautiful men in existence*
Also Jareth: *gets jealous when Sarah kisses the “repulsive little scab” solely out of gratitude for saving her from freaky-ass fire goblins*
I DONT THINK JARETH WAS THE USUAL VILAIN IN LABYRINTH HE WAS SO HOT MOST GIRLS WERENT AFRAID OF HIM AMD SARAH DIDNT GIVE THE IMPRESSION SHE WAS FRIGHTENED BY HIM. I WOULD HAVEFELT ABIT INTIMIDATED BUT I LOVE THE BALLROOM SCENE.

Hahhaa Jareth so jealous!! 😂

What stench, speakest thou?
No way! You mean to say Bowie was only on screen for like 10 minutes?! I remember I used to fast-forward to his next appearance!!!

that little "well, laugh" always gets me.
He's saying "Well...love..." as in, all these things I'm putting up with because I'm in love with her.

They mean when he joked about Sarah’s failure, and told the goblins to laugh with him
@@korokshiding No, he said "laugh".

For me it's the "*goblins laugh* QUIET! *goblins stop laughing* A Goblin Babe! *Jareth laughs* Well?!? *goblins and Jareth laugh*" scene that gets me. 😂
The Bowie-Bulge is still as magnificent and terrifying as ever D:

As verified by Debbie Harry!!
I thought I was the only one who called it that, lol
Man, don't you just wanna say. "Spare the child and you can rule me". Ahh, how attractive!

@melissacooper4282 Yeah, that is a great answer! But Sarah just wanted to live out her heroine fantasy as it was written in her favorite book. She needed a broader imagination and an open heart.

In the early 1990’s, I was at a charity concert that consisted of several amazing artist. I was in the elevator with my little one( she was about a year old). Bowie & a handful of his people got on the elevator as we were on. I recognized him & it was obvious. I however didn’t want to bother him. My little one of course was cooing trying to get everyone to acknowledge her. As we were getting off the elevator, he turned to us, smiles & said “And baby says”. It was definitely one of my favorite moments in life.
“How are you enjoying my Labyrinth?”
“It’s a piece of cake.”
Dumbest thing you could say in that situation.
Ikr 🤦🏻♀️
@Honey D actually in the movie she was supposed to be 16
She said that to provoke him. She knew it was a stupid thing to say but said it anyway.
It's very much like when you encounter dangerous things - don't show fear or they will eat ya. It was her way of trying to not show fear.

Fun fact, in the scene where Jareth is juggling the crystal ball, there was an unseen juggler right behind Bowie who was juggling the crystal ball while Bowie kept his own arms out of the shot
Oh yeah and the juggler couldn’t see a thing the whole time
So that was a juggler in his pants? That does make sense.
David Bowie is a treasure. What a brilliant actor, and tragically underused. He was, and still is, perfect as the Goblin King. You can tell he's mean, but not vicious. A lonely king on a lonely hill. I think he was looking for friendship with Sarah but didn't really know how to have one since he'd been surrounded by Goblins all his life and it made it difficult for him to relate with humans. At least that's what I tell myself whenever I watch this movie. His simple utterance to Hoggle - "Friends...?" has this subtext of loneliness, envy and want.
Uh, ok, so that was long and too overly analytical for anyone's good, but love this movie - Bowie really sold it like nobody else could.
My mom hates him as 1980s but I love it sooo much even the nice hair and pants and well everything of him he is perfect even tom hiddleston well they are both British and damn good singers

I don't know why but I love how he just decides to change Toby's name to Jareth after him.
Toby’s got his eyes you know. 😂
@@TA-ls5nr it's ALWAYS the eyes situation 😂😂
Especially in Harry Potter, almost/90% of every character goes up to Harry saying "you have your mother's eyes" 😂😂
That smile that David gave Toby at 4:35, that was such an out of character moment, and so adorable!
I feel it gave depth to the Goblin King's character.
Seems to me that it's just him smiling at a baby.
Ayyy siiii😍😍😍😍😍😍🤞🤞🤞 Estoy muriendo🤞🤞🤞🤞
So cute, I think Jareth genuinely likes babies cause they do dumb things out of innocence while the goblins just want to create chaos for the sake of it. I don’t think he likes to clean up after one though, that’s why he has handmaids for lol
I feel like that was his breaking character for like only a few seconds and I love it
" may the crotch be with you" me *dies of laughter*
You have to wonder if those tights ripped at one point or another during filming.
I think that is what male ballet dances have to wear. Back then it was acceptable. Now that women wear yoga pants it's a little reversed. Awkward time travel.
@@charlemagnetheFranks
It’s always been like this though. As soon as women start wearing something, it’s considered an attack on masculinity itself for a man to wear the same. Other examples of this include high heels, makeup and anything resembling a skirt. I don’t think David Bowie ever cared, though.
He was wearing a cod piece to make it look bigger
@@ginnyjacobs99 have you ever seen the pics of him in a speedo? Nope. No cod piece!

I might be reaching here, but has anyone else noticed the number 13 is a recurring motif in Labyrinth? Sarah has 13 hours to navigate the labyrinth and rescue her baby brother, and there are 13 creatures who attend the masquerade ball. There are 13 stones in the starting position of the labyrinth that Sarah uses to mark her progress.
The Junk Lady, who represents the materialistic and superficial aspects of Sarah's personality, appears when Sarah is 13 hours into her journey.
In the final scene, when Sarah returns home, the clock in her room reads 13 minutes past the hour. In numerology, the number 13 is often associated with transformation and rebirth, which ties in with the overall theme of the movie.
There are 13 pedos in the back filming
This movie is almost 30 years old and I still know all of Jareth's lines pretty much by heart!
This movie is my childhood!
Bowmaj 86 I envy you because the first time I watched this movie was 2 years ago... it should be way more popular in other countries!
CrazyWeirdMuffin Only two years ago? Out of curiosity, how does it hold up today? I can't help but be a little biased towards it since I saw it when I was very young, but it's safe to say it's pretty different to fantasy movies nowadays!
Bowmaj 86 yes and how different it is! i was really stunned to see all the reallife puppets and settings without any computer animation and that's why i got to love this movie. okay, for an adolescent it's kind of strange to love such a children's movie, but i really like the deeper meaning of it. the journey of sarah's search for herself and growing out of her childhood... it spoke to me on an emotional level and that's what i miss in today's movies..
+Bowmaj 86 I'm amazed that this movie is still drawing new fans, serious die hard fans, there are FB pages and websites dedicated to this move. I think it more than stood the test of time. They've been trying to do part II but it never happens because I don't think Bowie would do it.
+MusicCollaborator That's kind of surprising, because even back when I was a kid most people I knew had never heard of Labyrinth. I guess kind of worry that movies like these might be looked down on as old relics from the 80's that are just laughable when you watch them today, but thankfully that doesn't seem to be the case. And I know it's been said a million times before, but puppets and real life animatronics have a charm to them that most CGI special effects can't even dream of, and it really is a shame that no movies these days even bother with them. Hopefully the new Star Wars Film might change this, but I'm not holding my breath. Oh, and I don't know if you've heard of it but they did do a "sort of" sequel in comic form. It's about Toby, now a teenager, stumbling into the world of the Labyrinth and Jareth trying to get him to take his place as King! Or something like that? Truth is, it wasn't really that good, but there is a memorable moment when Toby meets Sir Didymus, Ludo and Hoggle who is now "Prince of the Land of Stench" showing that the Goblin King does keep his promises!
Honestly if David Bowie was an actual fae/goblin king irl I would’ve believed it. This movie was basically David Bowie just being himself
Oh Bowie is better person than Jareth will ever be 😂
Legend has it people put up hidden cameras and this is just the daily life of David Bowie he didnt even know he was being filmed until the film released

I took so much from this movie watching it recently again as an adult. I think my favorite lines are "that's not fair!" "you say that so often, I wonder what your basis for comparison is?" has been very meaningful for me moving through the more difficult parts of life as it is a good metaphor that things aren't always fair and the best you can do is your best to continue moving forward.

Violent Teddy Bears AHAHAHAHA 😂😂😂😂
I said that to my ex David and he laughed, he probably didn't know where I heard it from 😂
Damn! Those trousers just keep getting tighter throughout the movie!
I don't know if this has been said before, but Jareth was a human baby himself who was kidnapped and raised by the goblins and built his castle (using his imagination) within the old goblin city. This explains why he wants to name the baby after him; he knows the human world exists but is a stranger to it. I think the goblins and dwarves were once enemies which is why the labyrinth was originally built to protect the goblin city, but dwarves are now extinct (possibly because Jareth helped them with his magic). Humans are the only ones who can use their imagination, which is why Sarah keeps encountering creatures that are stuck in their own thoughts.
Where did you get this information
I always thought that Jareth was some type of Fae. I like your take on it though, the case of the changeling child.
@@kenpowolf1987I believe you are correct. Jareth is a Fae, a mythical creature that can shapeshift into different forms depending on the mythology. People can make deals with them, but they are tricksters so you have to be careful.

Ugh there is that dark part of my soul that yearns for them to be together. But, the whole point of the movie (thankfully) is that she is still a kid, and he’s an adult, and it’s wrong. She has to face reality and take care of her family and herself and do her growing up. A man who kidnaps and torments is not to be trusted or loved. She has to save her brother, despite her desires.
I do believe the Goblin King was truly in love with her. But, he is Fay, and he is treacherous and cruel, just for fun.
There was supposed to be a kiss in the ballroom scene, but David Bowie (being a gentleman and good person) had it taken out because Jennifer was a child at the time.

@@melissacooper4282 I definitely agree. I would have also. The thing is Sarah at that time was to immature and not developed emotionally to handle an older man like Jareth. If you still are playing with your toys and costumes you are not emotionally mature for an older man like Jareth. He fell in love with her even though he knew she wasn't ready yet. Meh. I'd rather be Toby and have no recollection of the whole thing.
She shoulda been like "I'll be yours if you'll leave Toby here...is that exchange so horrible, my King?"
When Jareth said "oh poor Heggle... I noticed you're lovey jewels are missing". That was a double entendre on his part! The fact that Sarah took the jewels off his wrist, but also the 'family' jewels in holding Hoggle to lead her to the castle with her sway. Did Henson come up with that line or did Bowie improvise? Still sleek and subtle til the younger generations understood 'certain' innuendos as they got older.

The scene with Jareth offering Sarah her dreams, she could have taken it with the dreams of getting her baby brother plus Jareth getting Sarah at the end
That's exactly what I was thinking!!
I remember watching this movie for the first time about five years ago during my Student work experience, when we had a break. Many as a teen back then, many thought that this movie was so cheesy and hilarious. So when everyone left, i decided to stay behind and watch it.
At first, I thought it was campy. Childish yes, because I knew it was a family friendly movie. Until all came to THAT ball scene. Yes, the one iconic scene. I remember first being so mesmerized by it, although I didn't fully process it at the time. Then of course, I had to end the movie midway to go home. That night, I found myself not able to get 'As the world falls down' out of my head. Only then where it fully hit me how dreamy, magical nd fantastical it was.
Cheesiness aside, I believe that David Bowie was perfect as Jareth. I can't imagine anyone else. He carried a charm, and that was awesome in it's own right!
I'm crying at the end. I ADORE Labyrinth and have ALWAYS wanted to dance with David and wanted to be in Jennifer's shoes... R.I.P. David Bowie.
