So, let's say you have a rusty fender, surface rust and maybe some pitting, both show side and inside of the panel, and you may not get to painting it for a while. You're a weekend warrior on your car. Here are the steps with questions, correct me where I am wrong. 1) Rust removal: mechanical or chemical rust remover, basically to bare metal, but I still may have some pitting. 2) Now, I need to wait a few weekends, because of work, so I preserve the metal and work on that pitting. What product? Do I use Rust Encapsulator on the inside of the panel and Fast Etch/After Blast on the outside of the panel, because that's the show side? 3) Now I am ready to repair the metal, which may include welding and body fill. Do I sand off the Rust Encapsulator if I applied it, or just use PRE Paint prep? I am concerned about adhesion of body filler to the bare metal. 4) Now the metal sits again for a couple weeks. Do I re-apply Fast Etch/phosphoric acid, or should I have planned my time better and gone right to Epoxy Primer? Ultimately, what's the prep just before epoxy when it comes to Rust Encapsulator?
Hey Mike, We wrote an article about working with pitting, rust encapsulators, and body filler. This will help you. garage.eastwood.com/eastwood-chatter/how-to-fix-rust-pits-in-body-work/
I had a project that required application of the rust encapsulator Platinum in small amounts. I had to open and close the can many times and a lot of the product hardened in the can even after I obtained a new can. I would say plan on using the whole amount you purchase quickly and don´t plan on storing it.
I had rust come thru red rust encapsulator. In dots underneath my nova .Have to redo it again.why did it fail in certain spots .I used rust converter first when you had to mix it .
I ordered a quart of the brushable Platinum. It's a very good product. The problem was with the can. I had to completely destroy the lid to get it off. I've never seen a lid do that. It was unusable after that so i wrapped the can tightly in plastic but it still hardened right up. Because of the lid being jackhammered on I only got to use half the product. And it was very expensive !
Looks like they don’t stand behind their product! I’ve used Eastwood and it’s ok as rust does return. POR-15 is 100% better and rust never reappeared. Go with POR-15
I have a small rust spot about the size of my baby finger. I noticed it on the inside of the door tonight when I opened the back door of my 2009 Tahoe. Do I need to treat the rust before the encapsulated is brushed or sprayed on? And is there a different kind of encapsulated for the inside of the door?
You would need to sand/wire brush the area and then apply to the outside. For the inside we have Internal Frame Coat www.eastwood.com/eastwood-internal-frame-coating-14oz-aerosol.html
I bought the plus version and when it came it was hard as a rock and I didn’t know till after the return window. So I wasted a bunch of money. There were no signs of damage on the can or anything. I didn’t open it for many months after I bought it.

Can i use eastwood rust encapulator on existing rust followed by raptor liner 2k inn white on top of eastowood to get my undercarrgie colour match? And to stop rust? Please help
We have a video coming out soon of applying bedliner over rust encapsulator. The process is: Wire brush loose dirt and debris off and Clean with Pre-Painting Prep Apply Rust Encapsulator Apply an epoxy primer Apply bed liner You will need to check the the raptor liner's directions, we used SEM Professional Truck liner which calls for being applied over epoxy.
Yes, but you need to put a layer of epoxy primer in between the rust encapsulator and the bed liner. Something like this: www.eastwood.com/eastwood-optiflow-epoxy-primer-quart-and-catalyst-kit-automotive-roll-on-paint-gray.html
Thank you for the breakdown, now this will make my purchase easier!
Glad it was helpful!

Can you paint straight onto the surface or do you need to do some prep first?
💥 Thanks for the video. What’s the difference between the encapsulator and the converter.??
Hi Eastwood! So is there a converter within these products which stops the rust from continuing?

Can you use an enamel based paint over your encapsulation products?

Same thing happened to me, we need a diy on how to store quarts/gallons so they don't harden if the product isn't being used entirely
Was this the first time you opened it? Or after your first use?
@@eastwoodco This was right out of the box. First use.
dennis jump i just had the same problem with a brand new can. Had to use a pry bar! Stuff is really good tho.

You guys need to make a clear version for rat rods 👍

Is this a rts or do you have to reduce it to spray it??
I can’t wait to get this
What spray tip on a hvlp gun to spray on?
Don’t need to etch bare metal ?

@@eastwoodco I don’t have a receipt I bought it over a year ago. I bought it online.
Nice product...👍
thanks!!
Will this stuff be suitable for applying over a custom exhaust system?

@eastwoodco Sorry so does that mean yes I can use that over your product? As I'm not familiar with all those paint terms haha

Just tell me how to open the damn can already. It has some weird plastic flange, not like a typical paint can.
Pop the Plastic Ring off by hand or with a flat head. It's to protect it while shipping.
@@eastwoodco thanks, got it!
How do you open this weird can
Does using brush leave streaks ?
It "flows out" a little but you will probably end up with brush streaks. We've also had great success with a foam roller.
@eastwoodco okay thanks 🫡
Does this come with a dink alarm?
Rust only happens in UAW controlled states where they salt the roads to ruin the cars. Think "revenue stream".
Is there any benefit to using a rust "converter" and then going over it with this "encapsulator" ?
Can you add rhino on top of that?
A spray in bedliner? You can topcoat rust encapsulator with an epoxy primer and then a bedliner yes.
Why would you remove encapsulater plus from Amazon? Nobody wants the rubberized bullshit
Hey don't sweat! We offer it via our website: www.eastwood.com/eastwood-rust-encapsulator-plus.html
Due back in stock soon
That Platinum is sticky so don't get it on anything
They are all VERY sticky - definitely use gloves, we put plastic on the floor or cardboard before every project as well.
@@eastwoodco yeah I found that out the hard way lol
We pit this on our car and it turn yellow, very dissapointed , all the work done to it now i gotta top coat at anOther spenae and work 🫣
