    I've only ever bought through eBay. I've found some deals on there, but it gets frustrating scrolling through all of the overpriced sets people list. I would like to experiment more with Bricklink because they seem to have better selection of older sets. The only thing I don't like is the mystery around the shipping cost. Most of the things I've looked at show the shipping cost as "TBD". I don't like committing to a purchase without knowing the total cost ahead of time.

      Just before purchasing just send them an email asking for a quote. It is completely non-binding and lets you get the real cost

      Many have shipping charts and you can always ask ahead of time. If they are not willing to tell you then not worth buying from. I find that many on eBay have extra high shipping charges. Funny thing is the absolute most ridiculous shipping charges comes from Goodwill.

    As a U.K. A.F.O.L my biggest fear of eBay is the fake Lego mini figures. I have learnt to read listings once or twice mainly because if it's to good to be true ( price wise) it's usually not the real thing. Adding custom or compatible with Lego is obviously a way of getting round eBays counterfeit laws. As someone who didn't get back into Lego till my kids got into it. (and have now moved on to other things) I'd like to say I love your channel, your films and enthusiasm for Lego. Keep up the excellent work👍🏻

      This is not exclusively for Ebay, I spotted two times of sixteen purchases, non-lego pieces. I wrote back to the stores' owner about what happened. I think this happen with new sellers or with big stores, in this case, they need a better management.

    I've also noticed that small sets sell really fast on bricklink but my big sets, priced correctly, sit there. On eBay I can guarantee that I'll sell a big vintage set on my first listing. But the fees are higher. So I'd say eBay is also for people who need the cash asap. I usually will list sets on bl for a few months and then switch to ebay of they don't sell quickly
    99% of my eBay buys are from people who don't know what they have.

    For buying sets I choose eBay. There are auctions that start at low prices and if nobody else bids you can get a really good bargain. For example I got the 4559 Cargo Railway set complete for just £65 on eBay. It costs twice this amount on BrickLink. eBay auctions are always a gamble for sellers. I've seen some sets go for stupid prices because bidders get carried away or don't know the value of what they are buying. Recently I saw the 6393 Big Rig Truck Stop sell for £300 but it is only worth around £110.

    ebay fees are 10% or 9% if you're a top-rated seller, and paypal a 3% hit on top of that. brick link is 3% and then paypal another 3%. Bricklink wins big, in terms of fees! Do they have the traffic of ebay though? How fast can you guys sell legos on bricklink vs ebay? I've only sold on ebay thus far, but very interested in trying bricklink!

    • @BrickTsar

      eBay has been snail pace to sell. Nothing ever sells. Bricklink has been much better for me. I got tired of relishing items over and over on eBay and eventually lost my top seller status. I use to do as many as 100 auctions a week in early 2000’s but eBay fee’d me out of my desire to sell there

    issues with lego at moment is to many sets/figures/remake figures etc so hard to tell if your new to lego what you want and how much your pay, like you see ebay flooded with people selling big lots of lego figures now but its knowing ones with value in lot etc , then you see figure you want say on its own for what you assume is higher price then say like it being bundle which is cheaper because its in massive bundle then you question why its so much more on its own etc but market is too flooded now for my liking and only buy figures I need as selling is way to hard now for me.

  • @LolaliciousSmiley

    Hello BrickTsar,
    We have a collection of complete, used sets from the late 80s as well as a collection of new, boxed sets from the early 2000s (~80 total sets. Essentially, we're dumping out a closet.) This is all we are planning on selling and would prefer to have items move quickly (within a month or so of listing).
    Would you recommend ebay for this relatively low volume? We're not looking for a huge payday. It's just to clear out things that we are not using without getting ripped off. Bricklink seems like it's set up for long-term stores as opposed to our short-term needs, but the 3% is appealing compared to 13%. We already have everything counted and verified complete, photographs are taken, sets are in plastic bags, etc.
    Thanks for your time. I appreciate your videos on this subject and wish you well.

    • @BrickTsar
      @BrickTsar  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry it’s been a busy time of year for me. If it was me I wouldn’t get in any rush. But if you are wanting to move quickly - it’s definitely easier with eBay listing in bulk. Maybe do related items together instead of one bulk lot. That’s a balance between listing individually that might work for you. You likely wouldn’t get the quick sale on Bricklink but in time they would sale if the prices are lower than average.

    So I pulled out my old Legos. I know from building them when I was little. The old knights castle, pirates hidden cove, and smaller sets. My recent ones like Buba Fetts Slave One, Star Destroyer and a few other Star Wars vehicles. But I started looking on eBay and looking at bulk lots. But that's what makes me question the lot. Will it be parts to build interesting things or would I be getting misc stuff that is more about detailing a piece then actual building parts. Kinda hard to explain in a way. I'm more of Transformer collector, but I do remember playing with Legos and always enjoying them. I don't know if I should try buying any of these bulk lots...any advice for a noob?

    I chose Bricklink because I found out that a lot of sellers that would sell Lego sets, used or not, right a very high price on Ebay, when on Bricklink, they sell for cheap prices, used or not, well mostly used. I still go to eBay to see if there's a great deal on an item, but how often does that happen? I bought a Lego Star Wars set for $80.00 brand new free shipping. On Bricklink, I checked out the same Lego set used, 100% complete, for $50.00 including shipping

    I just watched this video. I wonder if there is a difference between the US and Europe. You explained that you had to get a set as it was in the store because once discontinued it would be impossible to buy the set.
    But, in my experience, sets did not become discontinued that fast back then. And stores here in Europe used to sell discontinued sets in the store for a long time. So for an example, I bought the 392 (70's formula 1 car) brand new in the box in 1988. Let's say "new old stock" 😂 and the Lego 6374 (house from '83) was purchased by me in 1990. Also brand new in the box. 😉

    • @BrickTsar
      @BrickTsar  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. There is a dispute procedure. Most of the time it is from non paying buyers, but they finally made it easier. Once there was a guy that ordered from over 100 stores in 1 day and sent them invoices and immediately left negative feedback. By the time Bricklink took action he has a -107 (yes negative 107) feedback. He should have never been able to place that many orders with a new account. All the negative feedback he left others got removed and he of course got banned. But the point is, I think the site is much safer for buyers. I would still check the feedback of anyone you buy from. If they have a lot of complaints I would avoid them

    I've been getting more and more into Lego in the last 12 months. I have about 60 new sealed sets and 10K+ new parts to sell over the last 12 months. I was planning on opening a bricklink store. I created a store and added some inventory with BrickStock. So everything was set, but my store was set to "Closed", apparently due to a new Seller Verification Process at bricklink. I contacted customer support twice over a two month period, and nothing changed. I only got one automated response saying they received my email. I meet all off the new seller requirements, but apparently bricklink is not a well supported website. Some bricklink stores have very little inventory, so why they are locking new stores out that will have 10X the inventory..... doesn't seem like a good long term strategy. At this point I think I'll just sell on Ebay since bricklink will not allow me to open my store. I still buy on bricklink, but at this point I only look for great deals since I have a bad taste in my mouth from bricklink. One positive thing has come out of this, now I'm even more motivated to create an even larger Lego store, but it'll be Ebay only (not by my choice).

    • @BrickTsar
      @BrickTsar  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well Bricklink is no different than ebay as far as that goes. I find on ebay you have just as many people using stock photos of sets instead of pictures of the actual set. You can post pictures on Bricklink of anything you are selling. I find that most people that sell on Bricklink are far more knowledgable than those on ebay. I will see the term "MISB" used on ebay and it will be an open box or even used item. They clearly do not know what mint in sealed box means. So I think you mean "IF they don't have pictures on Bricklink and they DO have pictures on ebay you would use eBay."

    • @PumpkinEcks
      @PumpkinEcks 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most stuff I've bought from eBay have photos of the actual item and if I'm not sure, I usually ask for more(different angles/sides of the box). Most sellers have been good with that. I've been browsing Bricklink before jumping into this vid lol and most of the sets I was looking for on there were stock photos! That, followed by reading some BL forum that says most sellers don't usually respond when you submit an inquiry and such just makes me go "ehhhh". I'm sure there are some BL stores with pics of the actual items but the ones I've seen so far, no dice.
