      @@jamesfulton215 That's actually a very good idea and probably pretty close to whatever it was Halsey was doing.

      Give me a more in-depth version of E.A.W's Subsystem and Hardpoint style combat, with Fighterbays/Hangars ect, but on the scale of S.O.A.S.A. or Homeworld, with customised loadouts for ships.

    • @thebighurt2495
      @thebighurt2495 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@jaegergames7042 That feels like a great setup for a single-ship space RPG type game, with the protag being a single, upgradable ship and it's crew. You could choose from a Paris, Charon or Halberd with the Halberd focused on space combat, the Charon on Ground support and the Paris balanced between. As an extra balance, you could have the upgrades cost more for the Halberd, as it is physically larger. A phoenix class could serve as the Story and upgrade "hub" with a Halcyon making appearances for the opening and final battles.
      Crew and complements would function as being a percentage based system (start with 1k marines and could upgrade to 900 w. 100 ODST and so forth), with the "second-tier" units requiring more "points" to purchase. Ship upgrades would be a straight upgrade.
      The Hero Ship story would begin during the battle of Reach, with them having just been ordered to pull out. A Marathon "takes a bullet" as it were for them, buying them to escape. The Halcyon fights a retreat alongside them and they have a "Good luck, Captain" "You, too" moment. After they jump out, there's a brief battle between them and a Covvie corvette that managed to track them, which serves as a brutal tutorial. After the battle, they notice a distress call from a nearby ship, jump to it and it turns out to a be a damaged Phoenix. The Phoenix Captain is senior to yours and assumes a sort-of command role. The situation is that, so far as they're both concerned, the fleet is considered lost. They decide to fight a guerilla campaign against the Covvies using data pulled from the Corvette's computers. There's a campaign of raiding poorly-defended Covvie sites and scavenge from trashed UNSC and Innie locations marked as Glassed. They find pockets of survivors which join the crew. Eventually a small Covvie fleet tracks them down and a desperate Last Stand is made by the Hero Ship and Phoenix and the Halcyon arrives just in time to even the odds and they have a brutal victory. The Phoenix goes down swinging, ramming a Covvie cruiser and taking it out. The battle is close to lost. The Halcyon is disabled and the Hero Ship has been mortally wounded. Then *another* covvie fleet jumps in and all seems doomed... until the new fleet attacks the previous one. The stunned survivors are greeted by the Elite Commander of the new fleet and informed of the changed situation (schism) and he offers to lead them both back to a nearby UNSC system. The Hero Ship begrudgingly accepts and is abandoned, the crew transferring to the Halcyon. There's a slow camera pan across the Phoenix's wreckage and the Hero Ship's battered corpse and the New Meat Lt. asks the Capt if it was all worth it. The Capt sighs and says "I sure hope so Lt." The ships jump out.
      *Roll credits along a sad version of the theme song*

      A competent dev team could've made several entire games from scratch in the time it take Sins of the Prophets devs to put out one small update (which would just be yet another graphical update and little else). They aren't nearly as good or competent as their fanboys claim, and from personal experience, the lead devs are dickheads. The fact their mods and their partners' mods have essentially gone dead for years is telling enough, aside from token comments to string people alone once every few months. Let's not delve into the fact the engine they mod is old, clunky, and janky. And the game itself is practically on hospice care in regards to player numbers and they have zero plans to move it to the new Sins game, lol.

    I think the Mulsanne class and it’s laser is designed to specifically combat Covenant ships in a support role. The main reason the Covenant were winning the space front in the Human-Covenant war was partly because of their energy shields while human ships had no shields. However, as shown in halo wars Covenant shields have been shown to be susceptible to super heated plasma. Lasers are in a way concentrated super heated plasma. As shown in halo infinity when the Mulsanne fired the super carriers shields flickered, indicating it was out making the ship vulnerable to macs and nukes. In other words the Mulsanne class is a support ship designed to make covenant ships vulnerable to other UNSC ships.

    • @Chrisspru
      @Chrisspru ปีที่แล้ว +6

      i think its wings are radiators for its weapons, engines and shields mostly. with spaced armor being a secondary effect, which works with plasma as vacuum distance is the best protection from heat. it may help with shield or splipspace geometry too.

    • @youraveragescotsman7119
      @youraveragescotsman7119 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      The Mulsanne takes out the shields so that the 600+ Archer missiles fired from the other side of the system hit the Covvie ship directly.

    • @leftwardglobe1643
      @leftwardglobe1643 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it's just a general upgrade package to replace the outdated MACs. Kinetic weapons deal a lot of damage if they hit, but dumbfire projectiles don't typically do so well in the vacuum of space unless you're in brawling range, which in this case is anywhere below 50,000 kilometers, and this is exclusively due to their velocity.
      A MAC can only canonically engage at just over 16,000km, which is fairly realistic for such a weapon. That worked against the Covenant because they didn't know how to use their ships properly, but it would be woefully inadequate against ships that knew how to target with laser weapons out to 80-100,000km (which is pretty reasonable for such a weapon system), or had missiles with on board guidance systems (which the UNSC does), which are only limited in range by their delta-v (how much they can change velocity in a vacuum). So long as they're not shot down or jammed missiles can reliably hit targets even further away than laser weapons.

    I honestly feel like the Charon class is undermanned in terms of it's ground force complement. Modern day LHD's (which is basically what the Charon is in terms of role) like the Wasp-class can carry almost up to 2000 troops. And those ships are about half the size of a Charon.
    You know what? Come to think of it, Halo does have a size/scale issue especially when it comes to ships

    I’m working on a Sci-fy setting rn where the two factions of humanity are at war, and one of them (The RHW) has very VERY advanced Electronic warfare, advanced enough that the other factions (the MCFP) does not even try to fight them on the EW front, and sense the RHW can just mess with their sensors to an extrodenary degree MCFP ships have bridges with windows to dive by sight in combat to render the RHW’s electronic attacks useless
    They also use them for good old light signals in case of complete coms cut off between ships via RHW electronic attacks they resort to good ol flashing spotlights at each other

    Regarding spaced armour, the main use in space would be to prevent damage from weapons such as plasma torpedoes by causing them to detonate on the external armour. Any kind of continuous directed beam weapon, like i believe the covenant plasma lances are, would just punch through the spaced armour and continue through the vessel.

    That is Mach 35,084. The Chelyabinsk Meteor was traveling at/about Mach 55 and weighed 13,227 us tons. The force of that mass impacting Air at that speed was sufficient to create a 500 kiloton explosion over the city of Chelyabinsk.

    40:50 i don't think that the 'wings" are meant to be spaced armor, they could simply be large heat sinks that the heat generated by the ship's engines, machinery and occupants are fed into and radiated out of the ship, while also providing some level of extra protection against incoming fire
    it's very easy to heat something up, it's very difficult to cool things down especially in space where there's no medium like air to transfer energy into

    40:10 spaced armor was mainly used for either small projectiles. Or explosive munitions. Mainly HEAT. Which physicaly cant "penetrate" spaced armor. And with normal HE you keep the ship from taking damage by having it explode a signifigant diatance away from the actual armor. IE a torpedo bulge.

    Playing the excellent Sins Of The Prophets mod its a good thing you get so many production boosts as the UNSC as you need a huge mass of frigates as the cov ships toss them aside like nothing at the start as cov ships are so insanely powerful. The Strident can only be deployed by the Infinity, and if you are that far into the game to have built it then you proboly have 4-5 CAS to worry about.
    That said, if you have flood mode swiched on at least you have a lot of chaff to throw at them. Each infected ship lost to the Cov is a bigger loss as they cost so much more and take so much longer to build.
    Its such an amazing mod.

    The Infinity being out of the way...we aren't 100%sure what her status is. But let's not forget that she has a sister ship still under construction, the Eternity.
    The older frigates were purposed for a bygone era of policing human space against other humans. And naval tactics reflected their assumption that they were the big boy on the block. But when the Covenant navy showed up, UNSC vessels were like children throwing rocks at irl main battle tanks. Preston Cole was one of the first to realize this and fathered the later war tactics of gruella style naval engagements, scoring key early victories with frigates being the backbone of his fleets. After his disappearance, all the UNSC could do were delaying actions until the end of the war.
    Id love to have a Halo universe game along the lines of the newly released Star Trek: Resurgence. Cinematic, storytelling gameplay that could show us a lot of what these newer frigates and their crew could do versus any manner of enemy.

    From their appearance, the exposed bridges looks like a modularity thing. They look like they'd be easier to swap in and out at a shipyard. Could easily be wrong, not basing it off anything but aesthetics. But it makes sense to me. Maybe it's a futureproofing decision, or a cost/production thing. The use of windows could also be a sort of ultra redundancy thing, where the structural weakness you get from it on a frigate scale ship isn't enough to offset the extremely niche use in an emergency. Or maybe that's just what some admiral thought, and nobody could tell them no before the designs were in production.

    As Anlace is my favorite. Here s my 2 cents. The fact has wjngs and enclosed hull, The UNSC was going for atmospheric. After Covenant made shocking in Atmosphere slipjumps which catastrophically damaged new mombass. UNSC drafted plans for in atmosphere ships to combat enemy forces in Atmosphere or space.
    On top that the design incorporated total armament of Energy weapons probably avoid "MAC rounds in atmosphere?"
    When war ended me thinks the Mulsanne withnits very conservative hull design was based on prior frigates to avoid shipyard changes. It also still has guns and missiles.
    When the war ended in armstice UNSC fear of reignited conflict decided rush production. Anlace was step up in design lessons.
    - engines center mounted
    - better energy shields
    - electronic warfare suites presumably tied to disrupt or counter covenant tech
    - atmospheric maneuvering to fight ships in atmosphere and repel landing parties

    5:17 or literally cut off from the rest of the ship.
    Also, UNSC ships have to have some kind of backup bridge/CIC that’s buried deep inside the hull and isn’t exposed like the main bridge.

  • @The_Viscount
    @The_Viscount ปีที่แล้ว

    In defense of the navigation bridge:
    Cameras can help, but they have limitations. Now, most of the time, you won't need to see directly. Space is big. That said, docking maneuvers are very delicate. Having visual reference when lining up with spacedocks or docking collars would be very useful. As a result, what I think makes sense is what modern ships tend to do: the bridge is the normal navigation section for normal deployment. The CIC deep in the hull is the Battle command.
    In numerous modern navies the main bridge is to be evacuated during a fight, and staffed mostly by lookouts. That said, for cultural reasons this isn't always done. I've heard of some cqptains choosing to remain on the bridge during combat for various reasons.
