As much as I hate Trump, I owe him a lot. I was THAT republican before Trump was elected. I listened to Rush and Hannity on the radio at work everyday. And in 2016 I was one of the Never-Trumpers. I could not justify in myself, ANY way I could vote for Trump. Since then I’ve had an INSANE evolution on my personal politics. I started to question what republicans were saying and asking myself if it makes sense; if this is way I want to raise my kids; if these policies are even humane. And repeatedly, that answer has been no. I now align very closely with Bernie Sanders. Progressive politics will leave our country and planet a better place for my kids and grandkids. And I never would have gotten to this place if Trump had not been elected. I’m sorry it took that long.

Well, a whole lot of us lost a whole lot of rights, a million, literally lost their lives from COVID, as you could only awaken by the ascension of the worst of the worst, but glad you arrived, as many Americans. are fleeing. I am in my 70's. We stood up against a bad war, where 50k of our young people lost their lives, many still dying today from Agent Orange, government still denying them. Our government today literally say they won't use the draft, as the Right in response led a war on young people getting an education, certainly an affordable one. One of the things moderate Democats happily negotiated with them on to make a deal. They are now rewriting history, history of 250 years ago, to 5 minutes ago you may have just seen with your own eyes, as the Right threatens us all, certainly women, & minorities. My generation fought for abortion rights, for the same reasons we see now, but now there is an iron fist coming from the CONservative government against women, & the medical field I have never seen. Just think we were just shy of reaching a majority favor of rhe Equal Rights Amendment supported by Republican women as well, with the likes of Betty Ford. Now look where we are. Why soes a free democratic nation deny EQUAL RIGHTS to anyone especially to our mothers, wives, & daughters? In all my years until 2 years ago I didn’t know about the originalist theory, now we are looking at the return apparently of "barefoot & pregnant" as political policy from the Right. Maybe witches, you think? I watched 3 young Republican men angrily berating Taylor Swift on a podcast for calling to action her followers, TO vote, screaming about her being a terrible example for young women as she isn't married, or have children at the ripe old age of 30!? Children of 10 apparently should produce rapists babies, & sit in school with lactating breasts, they would have to excuse themselves to go to bathroom to pump, but hey NO TRANS gender there. Safety provided by Republicans! I guess a 40 year old will be shamed next for such decisions, even if it was due to fertility issues. The Right today has no empathy or even consideration of the unseen issues of we the people in our lives! I really think they don't care, they lime punishing our ideas, our private decisions. No MYOB TODAY from the Right. Really? CONservatives are about small government, & Rights. Trump doesn't scare me half as much as my neighbors that believe the idiocy Right in front of their eyes. Presidential pardon power is endowed by the Constitution.
The only way to change it is with a new amendment (i.e. ratified by 2/3 of the states.)
That will never happen.

@feedingravens There is one distinction I think you should really add to patriotism, the fully separates it from nationalism and xenophobia.
A TRUE patriot is someone who recognizes that all members of their society ARE EQUAL members of their society whether by birth or immigration processes.
The idea that you look down on someone for loving your country as much as you, that they leave theirs and join yours and you think of them as an "other" is blatantly unpatriotic, because you're pushing away YOUR OWN people.
Patriotism is about camaraderie and care of ALL aspects of your land, whereas Naziism and the like is nit-picking aspects of your land as worthy and deeming the rest undesirable and unwelcome.
True patriots love their country and its people. MAGA barely likes themselves.

He's waiting on his appeal. Hopefully his four months' imprisonment is on the near horizon. @jason bannon was pardoned for his fraud crime but then he defied a subpoeana from the J6 Committee.
He was sentenced to 4 months for defying a suppena from the Jan 6th committee. He is out while he is appealing. His federal charges of fraud were pardoned by Trump.

Thank you! My father was a straight ticket republican voter his entire life…until Trump. 2016 was the first time he had ever voted for anyone other than the republican running for whatever office for 60 years. I was SO proud of him, and it was a real bonding moment for us when he told me he would never vote for Trump. Sadly, he passed so he won’t be able to vote in 2024, but knowing he saw how horrible that man is gives me hope for all republicans!

According to Trump, Joe Biden has to be granted total immunity from any charges.
I know! at oral argument before The Supreme Court the special counsel should point this out that under the rule Trump wants the court to adopt Biden could commit any crime he wants and never be prosecuted for it. Biden could do anything he wants to undermine a free and fair election and there would be nothing Trump could do about it. In fact if God forbid Trump wins The Electoral College then vice president Kamala Harris could just go in on January 6th and declare Biden the winner and go home and Biden would never face any consequences.

Being from the UK it’s crazy for me to see the US with its lower inflation, higher GDP, and record job numbers etc not being seen by all Americans. Watching a large percentage of Americans being mislead and lied to and therefore not able to celebrate and embrace the US economical successes is insidious and twisted.
The UK’s economy could only wish to be so buoyant.
Unfortunately, there is a faction of people in the US who are holding on to the status quo of the 1950s because their very lives & their existence hinge on it. Time has moved forward, but they haven't. They are used to having everything handed to them without having to exhibit any effort on their part. Now that there is competition for what they have become so comfortable with, they are crying foul. What they don't understand is that if they didn't move forward with time, they would be left behind. It was their choice, & they didn't choose wisely; they stayed with the status quo.
You can never unring the bell, hence all the hatred & animosity they feel now. They are to blame for their lot in life, but it is a bitter pill to swallow, so they deflect & look for scapegoats. It's a story as old as time itself.
You have no idea how frustrating it is to deal people who have a different baseline reality.

They pay no attention to “laws” they gaslight about laws. The American people have to learn to vote the topics and counteract gerrymandering by getting over red or blue religion. If you don’t want Trump to win the presidency, then you should be registered to vote in the Republican primary to say no. Vote in a red election when you have to go blue when you need to. The best cure, for both of these parties is a strong labor party like every other first world country..

EXACTLY! Unemployment has hit historic lows in decades, and inflation has gone down a bit. Plus, Biden has created 3 times more jobs than the last 3 Republican Presidents combined according to Fox Business (which had to kill them), NBC, The Times and on BTC. And Dow Jones almost broke a record.
To them, Biden is old and asleep at the wheel. But yet has done more than Trump. If Biden did all that asleep at the wheel, imagine if he was awake! 😂
