She almost immediately ate the food she brought for the babies, which means she knew she wouldn't need to save it. I think she was comforting herself with the only sensation left of mothering: sitting on the nest. In the same way a grieving human mother will sit in their child's room.
The reaction of the parents birds totally broke my heart. Both mama and papa bird came back with more food for their little one, but their baby was dead and gone. They’ve both worked so very hard to take care of and feed their young. Very sad to witness their tragedy. Animals are such amazing parents!
Umm. Dad was extremely concerned about the missing babies! Mom on the other hand? Quickly eats the meal, tidy’s up a bit. Sits down and relaxes with her new space.
It's strange how after 5 days they were already getting bigger and suddenly the snake appeared, just like that. It certainly wasn't around when they were a few days old and they were still making enough noise when the parents came to feed them.
The snake waited so it could get a bigger meal..... Notice how the second bird was screaming bloody murder... Until it got swallowed....then..... silence.....

I've always wondered why baby birds are so helpless in the wild, but domestic birds like chickens and ducks are pretty much good to go right out of the egg!? I mean obviously they still need to be protected, but they're nowhere close to being as helpless as a wild baby bird.
Because they are altricial which means they are born under developed and need parental care. Humans are altricial. Ducks and chickens are precocial as in they develop with full down, eyes open and can move on their own immediately.

Even for wild chickens, there is no guarantee the chicks are more safe. They could be snatched by anything, since they move around so much. For baby birds in a nest, predators have to see the nest first, or stumble upon by accident. It could be that the extra harness made by the guy made the nest more conspicuous.

It sits in the nest waiting for its turn to get eaten. I don't suppose it's too immature to know how to escape. All it does is open its gape when the parent is near it. Eat, poop and sleep. Rise and repeat. Fatten up and eventually became food for the snake.
I can see how the bird care for their little ones by bringing them foods and make sure they are not cold in the rain but at the end the natures bring sadness to to their home what a sad ending. Like this video
Very interesting to watch. I can't believe the parents eat the poop. It was amazing to see those tiny chicks eat such big insects. It's a shame we couldn't watch them grow up.
Two reasons on eating the poop. Baby birds undeveloped digestive system doesn't do a good job at getting nutrients out of the food it's feed. So the poop coming out is still loaded with nutrients to be ate. Plus they need to get rid of the poop so the smell doesn't attract predators.
I don’t know what mama was thinking when she gave the baby bird a HUGE caterpillar. It looked hard enough for him to eat, let alone cough back up after he couldn’t digest it. It’s really cool how attentive both parents are. Starlings are the same way, both parents actively take care of babies and incubate the eggs

Birds tend to feed the chick that's the loudest, because loudest means strongest. It ensures the strongest survives for the sake of the species. It's just the way nature works.
Great Video, Those birds do not build the best nests at times, it's great what you did to try and save the nest. The camera has captured some amazing footage of nature at work. Sometimes the end results are not the best, but that's the way it goes in the wild unfortunately...😀👍

14:15 the snake gobbled up the first one and by 14:35 it started on the second one. At14:37 you can hear the brief painful and fearful cry of the second chick.

This is so cool. We see the mommy and daddy birds feeding their offspring, protecting them from the rain, doing what they can to see their children will live. Then along comes a snake and quickly devours the first bird who cries out briefly before being eaten. The next bird cries out in terror as the snake eat it, as if saying "No, no, no, no, no" and then silence. The snake even comes back later in case it missed another bird. Then the parents with food for their babies come back only to find no babies to fee. Maybe the snake should have waited to eat the parents as well. This is so cool.

Where I live we have robin birds made a nest and the first time there eggs fell to the floor😥. I put some nails and next year they made another nest and form 3 chicks 2 made it. Now they come every year and build their nest on the same spot. It’s safe from squirrels and the weather, but other birds sometimes fight with them for their chicks, like crows. Now this year we have a couple of cardinals making their nest and I think the eggs are there already. I leave sticks, hay, bird food near them. And also pull grubs and worms form the ground so they can feed their baby’s. It’s nice sometimes to help nature.

This is so cool. We see the mommy and daddy birds feeding their offspring, protecting them from the rain, doing what they can to see their children will live. Then along comes a snake and quickly devours the first bird who cries out briefly before being eaten. The next bird cries out in terror as the snake eat it, as if saying "No, no, no, no, no" and then silence. The snake even comes back later in case it missed another bird. Then the parents with food for their babies come back only to find no babies to fee. Maybe the snake should have waited to eat the parents as well. This is so cool.

Where I live we have robin birds made a nest and the first time there eggs fell to the floor😥. I put some nails and next year they made another nest and form 3 chicks 2 made it. Now they come every year and build their nest on the same spot. It’s safe from squirrels and the weather, but other birds sometimes fight with them for their chicks, like crows. Now this year we have a couple of cardinals making their nest and I think the eggs are there already. I leave sticks, hay, bird food near them. And also pull grubs and worms form the ground so they can feed their baby’s. It’s nice sometimes to help nature.
