Loved that episode! The war time postcards were amazing. Eugene Bickens, son of Joseph and Amy born around 1892, was in the Royal Horse Artillery and Royal Field Artillery, rank, Gunner. His parents were tailors, or at least his father was, (who was born in France). Eugene had two brothers, possibly Harry and Napoleon! If it's the same Eugene in 1939, he had married a girl in France, called Peaceful!

Those spikes wheels you found are pattern wheels. They are used for transferring a pattern to fabric - you run the wheel along the pattern lines and it will prick holes in the paper, and you can then pounce chalk through the holes onto the fabric. I actually still use them to transfer my embroidery patterns - but those are way nicer than the ones I have! Lol. Great explore! ❤️

I use them for leather projects. I was fortunate to find an antique shop that had a corner lot full of cobbler tools. Some really strange tools!

That war letter from Eugene is so sad. It says he applied for leave, "but has very poor hopes of getting it. It has properly killed all my spirit for soldiering, I am disgusted with it, but I suppose I must carry on" I hope he did survive the war, this is just a glimpse of what these men/boys were feeling xx

Don't know if anyone else has mentioned it buy those spoked metal wheels with a wooden handle that you thought were for pie crusts; they are used in leather craft to mark holes for the stitching.
Also in that same shot there was a leather hole punch on the table top.
Love your shows and you are the best at it!

    The letter translated, very sweet.
    Calais on January 27, 1919
    Dear Uncle and Aunt
We are very happy right now because baby Eugene is with us. He is leaving this evening for St Omer and for dinner we are with the family. Celine and her husband are with us. Our cousin is still the same very mocking, but he knows how to speak French well. We hope, dear uncle and aunt, to see you again soon, kisses from all the family.

From what I can gather, there were two Biekens brothers. Eugene Napoleon (born 1892) and Henry Francis (born 1890) both born on the Isle of Wight. Henry died in action on August 7th 1915. Eugene died in 1960.

Matt and bear, this was one of the best solo explorers you have done, some amazing finds, those beautiful embroidery postcards. The photo of the west minister abbey fallen soldier, in the first bedroom the little white dolls chair was cute. But the rusty spike tools, I think they were for making holes or patterns in leather. You did make me laugh when you open the box of buttons. The straw hat suited you, thanks for another mating video. 🥰

There’s a lot of good stuff in that place! Those post cards should be seen by everyone in a museum or something. You should buy one of these places with all the contents and fix it so floors aren’t buckling etc and open a museum like a “explorer window into the world” and keep everything like it is so people can search through. Kids would love it - I mean I would have! Lol.

This has been a GREAT explore.
Its so too bad you cant take those hand stitched cards to a museum. Could you tell them as an unknown contributeri
Cardinal Woolsey, wasnt he a jerk especially towards Catherine of Aragon. Or is it a different cardinal woolsey ?
KNT is an abbreviation for Knight, i think.
What a treasure trove of things.

Loved the blue peacock vase in the cabinet you couldn’t reach. Those rolly things look to me like fabric cutters. Those old books were fabulous! I loved Babar when I was a kid. I have a sewing box just like that! It was my grandma’s and she willed it to me! Wonderful tribute to Andy! That was some cool wallpaper too. I love the Toulouse-Lautrec reference! My favorite artist! Don’t like fur! Fake fur is best. Some good furniture with good bones. I love when you show all the lovely old photos! I always believe all the photos you find should be saved! I know it would go against exploring etiquette but I would take them! I know, shame on me. That 1915 sewn cards were exquisite!! Love the bathroom tiles! Those vases on the beautiful fireplace were gorgeous, even if they were modern. That huge painting can and should be restored.😮

Cracking explore, my Mum saw the plane crash in endcliffe park Sheffield, when she use to live nearby in the war, so all these war memories are priceless.
Why do you not like buttons? Just wondering! Its more like an museum than a home, some great items.

I'm old enough to say that I think the wooden figure at the beginning of the video is one of the Woodentops from the children's TV programme of the same name.
I think that it's "Mummy Woodentop" ! That would be the late Fifties I think.
