  • Most spooky abandoned houses make you want to run out the door screaming but this house and retro shop had one room that kept calling me back!
Come with Matt and Andy as they explore this ancient building that’s due to be demolished in the next few months and see what treasures it holds

Now this brings back some memories, Those pop bottles are unfortunately named “Corona” we used to buy them off of the Pop man (like a milk man but with carbonated fizzy drinks instead) and you could get 5p off each of your next bottles when you returned the empties, the slogan used to be “It’s the Corona fizz that does the bizz” 😂 nice find 👍🏼 28:04

Hi guys At 1.23.06 you came across the machine with all the numbers. The machine was sitting on top of something called a Flatley heater. We had one in the 70s. You'd put your clothes on the wooden poles and lower them into the slots of the heater then pop the lid on. It was the only way we could dry our school uniform. Our Mum was old fashioned even then so we had to make do with what was available. I haven't seen a Flatley in years. Luckily it was reliable. Thanks 👍

1953 World’s Faire , RCA introduced color TV. They started being sold in 1954, though at a steep price. So many couldn’t afford them. But I was born in ‘64, and we had color in ‘68.We were given one when someone moved. A huge console that had rabbit ears! Lol

That's so strange guys! Me and hubby were talking about Creamola Foam earlier today! It was a Scottish product made in Glasgow from the 1950's and it ceased production in the 90's. However, it can still be found. It's for sale in places such as ebay. I loved it as a child but when I tried it years later I hated it. But I don't really care much for sweet stuff now. Yes, it certainly brings back memories. Hubby remembers getting caught trying to climb up to the top shelf for it in it's hiding place! Great video guys!

The tin frame around the fire bottom is called a fender, they can be copper. My mum had one in an old Victorian house we lived in in the 1950's, and the rag and bone man tried for years to buy it off her but my dad was a sheet metal worker and knew the true value of it. The little box is a pill box, carrying tablets around in your handbag. Aspirin always came in glass bottles with cotton wool in to stop them getting damp. It's funny how things that where common place to me you both class as so old. That machine you called a receipt maker is actually an adding machine, a latter day calculator to you. Before that we added up with a pencil and a paper bag. Dear Andy, the pants you are holding up are actually sanitary pants. They have hooks on the inside to attach a sanitary towel to. Great blast from the past.

The Green Mile is the name of the movie that had John Coffee in it, and the reason alot of people don't care for Veal is because when a baby calf is born, they separate him/her from its mother and place them in a small hut that is fenced in so that it can only walk outside the hut that's the length of its body so that they don't move around too much. Thats what makes the beef so tender. I'm not crazy about how they do it, but, Veal Parmigiana is yummy. 😋 Did you receive the box I sent you?

Before I forget when I get to the end of the video, I wonder if the stained glass window was an attic door that worked as a borrowed light? My grandparents had one in their attic and a few small glass tiles in the roof allowed daylight in. Given the broken glass shards in the hall under the broken attic access area, with the main panel on the windowsill, it's a possible theory 🤔😊

Great exploration, especially the shop! Florins were 2/- (2 shillings coins, made of silver), worth about 10p in 1971 at decimalisation. The pile in the attic was years and years of guano - very acidic, good at destroying wood, apart for being good fertiliser. And yes, I agree - I think the house is old, judging from the size and placement of the beams. (Reeds being used for insulation between the floors and in the attic is another old technique.) I should think the fire caused the people to abandon the house. Very sad. It was a nice house once upon a time (apart from the "kiddy" wallpaper upstairs). Perhaps you lived there in a previous life, Matt!! The shop was great - loved the shelves. The little blue pot with a star on the lid and 2 compartments, I think it was for contact lenses? Barbara Cartland, apart from a writer of romance novels (she used to dictate them, about 20 a year, year after year), was Princess Di's grandmother. Also during World War II she came up with the idea of ladies renting wedding dresses from a general pool, because nobody could afford to buy one (especially if the bride wanted one made of silk, which was needed for parachutes), because of rationing. Her greatest contribution to the war effort was she was the one who suggested to Churchill they use gliders for the D-Day invasion, which they did. Sad they're going to rip it down.

G'day Matt and Andy, Bear either sensed a mouse/rat or a spirit when he was so still. Bear is a Care Bear. He loves you 2 and looks out for you guys when you are exploring. Do you think the reeds in the ceiling, walls and floors were for insulation? Matt, when you put your toe in that shoe I just thought of Cinderella and how her step-sisters were exactly like that trying to fit into the glass slipper. Also, you were drawn to that room for a reason, I don't know what, but spiritualists would say a spirit was calling out to you, they were welcoming you in.
I still get tablets prescribed with cotton wool in. I think it's to stop any moisture getting in after they are packaged. I love the old medicine bottles there. The pretty little box was a pill box and I think it had 2 compartments for am and pm meds. The shop was good too. You guys crack me up, thanks for the laughs. Sending love from Australia.

I enjoyed this video. An interesting house. I’m a fan of retro myself especially the 70’s when I grew up. They were good times taken me back to my childhood.

Great find . Really interesting in the shop area. The machine with loads of numbers is an old adding machine, the bottles for making beer or wine are called Demi johns. ❤

Perhaps they had extra doors to separate the store front from the home part for privacy.
