This is one of the best car commercials. It doesn’t have any stupid showcase (ie Ford Fusion the dragon ball commercial or some crap) and it doesn’t lazily talk about it’s specs. It’s just references the thing that made this car’s predicator so popular and show off it drive. It’s clean and enjoyable to watch.

Yeah, except it would have to be changed to work with modern safety standards. And the GT86 is what you get when you take the AE86 and update it for aerodynamics and safety.
They could technically make some new AE86's if they really wanted to, in the EU at least. Last year a new law came into place called the "Low Volume Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Act", I guess they would probably have to spin off a special company to take advantage of it and they won't be able to make them cheap. I doubt it allows full freedom but this rule is the reason why the old DMC Delorean has been allowed to resume production; with modern engines, suspension, brakes, etc of course...
megaspeed2v2 the one big reason it wouldnt fly is pop up headlights are now illegal due to the traffic safety and transportation board deeming them a potential danger to pedestrians. So now matter how badly we want it, the gt86 is the closest we'll get.

From what I understand there are a few differences between the new and old 86: New 86 is more powerful, more refined and has a better interior but is heavier. Old 86 is less powerful but is REALLY light weight. From what I can tell, the AE86 was about the weight of a smart car! Both cars are similar in many ways but the new 86 is easier to drive. Driving the AE86 is more of an experience. New 86 is a better daily driver. Both are fantastic!

While I really like the GT86, which is as beautiful as it is great to drive (and I admit that I'd love to own one), it still feels somewhat unlike the classic AE86. Hopefully one day I will own both... I love Toyotas. My only real problem is finding an LHD AE86 and then importing it :V

I feel like Initial D made a really big popularity boost for the Toyota GT86. The cars Toyota made at the time (of the AE86) were already good, like the Supra, which pretty much became a JDM legend. Although, I do think Initial D brought a lot of popularity to the AE86 - and is in fact one of the main reasons that it's still really popular - therefore probably increasing the popularity of the GT86, it's successor.

The boxer engines low centre of gravity is what makes the handling on the GT86 so great. We'd recommend taking one for a test drive if you get the chance. Thanks.

You all got it wrong. A stands for the engine (4 Cyl inline 4A series), E is for Corolla, 8 stands the fifth generation and the 6 represents de variation of its generation. The GT stands for the (2000gt) and the 86 stands for the ae86.
sorry but the GT86 is nothing like the original hachiroku, the Gt86 doesn't look like the car it took its inspiration from, not even the engine is manufactured by toyota. Now look hear the BRZ isn't a bad car by any means , but it's not even close to what an 86 was.
it's a good car , but I wish toyota kept some of the original 86's design, cause this just feels like an entirely new car completely unrelated to the hachiroku , not something improved upon and modernized. The only similarity it has to the original is probably it's rwd setup, lower centre of gravity and light weight.
Wind of change nowadays, you cant just take an 80's car's design and pretend to sell it, because it wont meet the safety regulations. as much as i love boxy cars, its not possible for car manufacturers to produce them. anyways, i believe the gt86 kind of keeps hachi roku's spirit. its a light, great handling rwd car, with a boxer engine, which lowers the center of gravity.

I feel like Initial D made a really big popularity boost for the Toyota GT86. The cars Toyota made at the time (of the AE86) were already good, like the Supra, which pretty much became a JDM legend. Although, I do think Initial D brought a lot of popularity to the AE86 - and is in fact one of the main reasons that it's still really popular - therefore probably increasing the popularity of the GT86, it's successor.
If they had just put an inline engine in there the car would be way better because we could more easily maintain it ourselves

Everyone forgets that at first the Hachi Roku didn't have the carbon hood, it had a regular white hood up until all the way into 4th Stage.
Yea but the carbon hood looks better than the white one and it's more distinctive, so that's why they used it.

The AE86 will always be king of the hill in my eyes. The GT86 is decent, but it just doesn't give the same feeling. Nice try though.

And even if I was old enough to drive, getting a decent AE86 these days is nearly impossible thanks to the obvious reasons. Even so, if I was given a choice between either that or the GT86, there'd still be no contest.

I don't know that car was barely even power sliding not even being pushed to the limit but it's still nice that Toyota acknowledges its own fan base not many companies do that I'm sure many people will appreciate this

Why GT86 and not AE86?
It's because Toyota wanted to have it as a homage to both the 2000 *GT* and the AE *86* , two of Toyota's most famous sports cars.

You all got it wrong. A stands for the engine (4 Cyl inline 4A series), E is for Corolla, 8 stands the fifth generation and the 6 represents de variation of its generation. The GT stands for the (2000gt) and the 86 stands for the ae86.

sorry but the GT86 is nothing like the original hachiroku, the Gt86 doesn't look like the car it took its inspiration from, not even the engine is manufactured by toyota. Now look hear the BRZ isn't a bad car by any means , but it's not even close to what an 86 was.

it's a good car , but I wish toyota kept some of the original 86's design, cause this just feels like an entirely new car completely unrelated to the hachiroku , not something improved upon and modernized. The only similarity it has to the original is probably it's rwd setup, lower centre of gravity and light weight.
Wind of change nowadays, you cant just take an 80's car's design and pretend to sell it, because it wont meet the safety regulations. as much as i love boxy cars, its not possible for car manufacturers to produce them. anyways, i believe the gt86 kind of keeps hachi roku's spirit. its a light, great handling rwd car, with a boxer engine, which lowers the center of gravity.
