I have a hair routine but I think the success behind my hair growth is after wash day I braid my hair up and will leave it until my next wash day unless I have to go somewhere then I take it out. But my hair was mid back length back in August and now I am aiming for waist length

    • @mrod87

Hey Great tips. However, I've learnt that even though you're washing your hair less is better. Overtime the sebum builds up. However, all you have to do is spread the sebum all over the rest of your hair. So take a little water and/ oil and you basically rub the scalp and spread it throughout the hair. That process is called scritch and preen or scope and spread. Some people would just opt for the water washing method which spreads the sebum. To think about it, if you're washing your hair weekly, you're more likely to be stripping that natural oil , losing hair through the process and it's more manipulation.
I've tried washing weekly , after two weeks, or a month. With my low porosity 4c hair, I see results after 2 weeks of washing if not in protective styles or after a month in protective style. Just hydrate and add moisture to your hair. Even try the greenhouse effect, works perfect.

I cannot go over a week without washing my hair...i have been trying to simplify my styles (rollerset to twistout...twistout to bun or two flat twists, sometimes i wash n go after that and that lasts me a week or more as well)...and i just rotate between those styles. I just purchased a scalp massager (thanks for the code) and I try and do that as often as I can. I have found that my hair overall is a ton healthier when keeping my options limited because I can see changes in my hair a lot easier. I use shampoo if I rollerset and clays or co washing for wash n gos and twists...and thats about it! I just bought a deep conditioning cap so i do plan to ensure I deep condition literally every wash day. i also believe wash day is self care...its one of my favorite times of the week.

I understand what you mean regarding protective styling. Why protective style for months. I do not protective style because I have cut my hair really short but if I had to, it would probably be when it’s snowing, just to keep it protected from the elements. We should trim, moisturise and deep condition and by doing that we can enjoy wearing our hair out all year round.

  • @abbeysnails

What's been working for me is protective styling. 4 to 6 weeks my hair is up and then I take it out and wash my hair. (So yeah, I'm part of the group of just washing my hair once or twice a month lol!) I touch my hair a lot, out of anxiety and boredom so I like to keep my hair up. When it's not in protective styles, I do a twist out or braid out to last me a week or two. Wash n' go to last me a week. I think it's because my hair is so thick that I hate wash days. 😂 So once or twice a month is good for me.
Less touching helps my hair grow. I transitioned for a year and now it's growing like crazy!

I agree. Less manipulation works for me as well. I don’t do that once a week washing, my hair would be dry. What works for her, works for her. Everybody’s methods in taking care of their own hair varies. If it makes your hair grow and is healthy you should continue doing it regardless of what other people say.

    • @abbeysnails
      @abbeysnails 7 ปีที่แล้ว

candicay Yes! My relaxed hair hated being washed weekly, and apparently my natural hair hates it too. That's why I don't cowash either. I'm also too busy to wash my hair weekly. You need those natural oils in your hair to help it grow anyway, so washing it away so often is a bit much.
Like you said, whatever works for you. ❤

One hair growth tip that works for me is twists and braids. The longer you have twists in the longer you retain moisture in your hair. I used to wash my hair every week but now I only wash it once a month and clean the scalp every two weeks.

Trinity_ NubianQueen When my scalp was itching, it was bc it was flaking rly bad and dry. I had eczema on my scalp basically, but now that it’s gone the natural oils that come out of my scalp help my hair grow
Washing your hair every week would take those natural oils away and dry you out ....

I do knotless braids and my hair is still moisturized and shiny when I take it out. Then again I wash and condition my braids and scalp every 2 weeks up to 2 months with frequent oiling (approx. every 3 days). I think twist and braids are good for stretching the hair ☺. Personally my hair grew a little faster. Btw I am medium density 4c. Porosity, not sure. Edit to say think you for the video gomenasai 🙏.

I have low porosity hair. Also just recently I just had braids for about 3 weeks. There was a lot of build up but my hair grew about a inch in the front and a half inch in the b back. Do anybody know some good gels and hair milks for fine medium density low pro hair. Lord knows I need it.

I'm low porosity too. Kinky curly is great, I also discovered the curls blueberry bliss restorative hair leave in and it's superb! You should try it.

Only thing I don’t agree with is individual braids aren’t protective! Hair grows from the scalp so with braids being able to add oil to your scalp does your hair justice
