Vaseline 100% fixed my freezer seal issue. Been simply "dealing" with my freezer being left open randomly for over a year. Didn't want to go through the amount of work it would take to tilt it further back. Finally after losing 3 lbs of ribs and half of a smoked pork butt, started looking for answers. So relieved for this video!!! Thank you

Excellent! Thank you! I searched all over the LG website to find an answer and all it said was to clean the gasket and call a repairman. Now I know I don't need a new gasket on my less-than-a-year-old fridge. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I have a whirlpool upright on our covered patio. The kids would get a soda and shut the door and the freezer door would pop open and it was a real problem because it would be days before I noticed. Thank you so much for the “Vaseline” advice! Worked like a charm and I added the Vaseline to both the freezer and refrigerator seals. They are a little harder to open…but that is a good thing! Wonderful solution!

I moved into a new apt complex recently that already has appliances. This video was extremely helpful unlike the maintenance guy that came here and has said nor explained anything, just nothing is wrong and its a new fridge when clearly its not because its covered with dents and scratches from previous residence. Thank you for this explanation it was truly helpful 😊

This problem plagued me when I moved into a condo which included the refrigerator. My wife accused me of leaving the door open. It got to the point that it was creating marital problems. I had to solve the problem.
The solution was to get a magnet from Radio Shack size (2x1x3/8). Place it at the top corner of the freezer (not on the door but on the refrigerator) just above the seal. Put the magnet so that the edge with the larger flat surface is on top of the seal when the door is closed. Hooray! It works and I am her Prince again.

+Ted Stecko I feel terrible but two weeks ago, I accused my boyfriend of leaving it open. He's away today and I walked into the house this evening to find it wide open. I knew I couldn't have possibly done it (of course, self-serving bias much?), and now I know. It wasn't either of us. I've apologized already.

Won't Vaseline make a rubber gasket deteriorate over time since it is a petrolatum based product? My understanding is silicone is best as a lubricant. Before applying lubricant, clean gasket with warm water and mild detergent using a microfiber or lintless cloth.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING!!!!! I am immensely grateful. This 110% worked for us! We didn’t have Vaseline at the moment so we applied castor oil (it’s a pretty thick in consistency) and it did the job after applying a lot of pressure!

Thank you so much. You didn't tell me how to fix it per se, but you did imply the level of the fridge could be adjusted. Sure enough, my 10 year old GE, which I've hated since we bought it, now has a freezer door that shuts back after it opens by itself. There were two black screws. Tightening them (clockwise) raised the front of the fridge up so that now the freezer door snaps back shut, so THANK YOU! We were seriously about to buy another fridge since my elderly mom never would shut the freezer door.

I should have remembered this! Sometimes the simple solutions save you time and money. Thanks for the reminder! The tilt did the trick. Science FTW! Gravity, levers, and friction Oh My! The Vaseline made it a little more 'schticky' once the door was shut and it got colder (now the freezer door pops open the fridge (don't close the door angry people!!!)) I will clean and Vaseline that door's seal later. What's good for the goose is good for the gander, eh? I should probably check for level side to side and make sure everything isn't too wonky and the doors line up with the opening square... More work! ;)

Not sure if you still follow your videos, but what if there was a tiny horizontal barrier between the doors? Or do think the pressure is coming from the fridge door being closed and pushing air through the inside of the fridge itself?

Somewhat of a cop out answer saying there is no fix. Maybe there are just some different reasons. Our freezer door pops every time we shut the refrigerator door with a little force and the fridge door pops if we do the same with the freezer. and then they don't shut on gravity alone (the friction is too strong in closing). Reading the insignia manual after this, I think we may need to try to adjust the tension on the door. It always feels like there is something rubbing when you open or close the door. You would think that would make the door hard to pop, but apparently it makees it easy to pop open hard to get closed. I will try the vaseline/parafin trick. And I am also considering attaching some more magnets to see if that helps to keep it from popping.

    • @CullenKasunic
      @CullenKasunic 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Ok So the leveling works well. It's actually tipped back a little. Also found that some screw was installed that rubs on the bottom bracket, don't know why but ut has cut quite a divot in that bracket. Things are smoother now. the fridge door still pops but not the freezer. About to try the vaseline.

My refrigerator appears to be operating normally...based on power on/off cycles, temperature in the fridge and freezer appears ok. Problem is it’s only 2 years old and it’s frosting in the freezer compartment. My question is, can this popping which mine does....cause frosting by allowing air into the cabin every time someone opens the fridge via popping. Add the amount of times we open the fridge to the amount of times we open the freezer and that’s a lot of air gettin in. Would love to hear what you think...

earlier today i noticed that my fridge door was sitting slightly lower and the light was on 24/7 in the fridge. I then adjusted the bracket slightly so that the door would close properly and the light would go off. When ensuring the door closes properly by opening the freezer I then noticed when i close the freezer, my fridge door sightly pops open and the light goes on you can see it near the gasket, but then it closes. Any way to fix this?

It's not about the "surface" area of the fridge v. freezer door. When I close my freezer door the refrigerator pops open. It's simply a pressure issue; even a smaller door can cause a bigger one to pop open, provided the pressure is simple enough.
Hoping leveling... er, rather, unleveling will fix the problem...

I noticed you mentioned in this video "there's nothing that closes like a damper on a side by side" and with that being said, I have a custom kitchen with a side by side freezer and refrigerator. Every time I close he refrigerator the left column which is the freezer pops open just slightly. Not enough to have the light come on , not enough to signal us with the beeping that will occur when it is fully open, just enough to allow my freezer to thaw out if left for some time and all the ice in the ice maker to melt and drip all down the inside. Being that it is a custom installation, I cannot adjust and tilt the unit back at all. It's completely built into the cabinetry and prefab housing. Any suggestions for this to be minimized if not fixed ? And are there other options based on the comment "there's nothing that closes like a damper on a side by side" would that mean that on a side by side I have another route to go ? Thanks to you or anyone who replies and have a great day!

So just here to say this video is absolutely wrong. We had the problem where the freezer was popping open every time we closed our fridge. The solution was so simple. The previous owners had put the drawers basket in backwards so it wasn’t closing enough to get the seal from the edge. 30 second trivial fix very strange to pretend like you are doomed like this video does.
