The way I relate to these pitiful little beans as a disabled person is insane. Your tangent about wanting to be heard and that being too much to ask hit me too close to home to be honest. These videos are really great in their scripting.... despite the things on screen being worms on strings with their heads cut off.
I can see it now, “The great American poet SpuddyCube got his start from making videogame challenge run videos on TH-cam” Keep spreading love and good things will come. I believe in you.
I truly think these are my favorite types of videos in this world. There is of course substance to challenge videos with general commentary, but waxing poetic over a game that is held together by the desperation of coders is truly something else. I idly listen to videos more than I actually watch them and its always a treat when I get beautiful things like this in my recommended.
"We didn't need them to understand, just... listen. Hear us not for what we could be but what we are. Sometimes being heard is enough, sometimes thats still too much to ask for." WHAT THE FUCK
"Being afraid of your emotions isn't a flex. Bottling them up doesn't make you strong. Intelligence is indicative of a person who's able to handle complex problems that are often nebulous and volatile. The opposite is akin to painting over mold. It may look nice, but the problem is still there, and probably getting worse while it's being ignored. It's scary to face how you feel sometimes, but there are few things more worth exploring than your own emotions. Whether you like it or not, you're gonna have them for the rest of your life, so it's best to figure out what to do with them as they come."
This is genuinely very well written. There are pieces of media that are meant to be deep with less in the way of an act structure, theme, moral and motifs than this video. 10/10, one of the best videos on TH-cam
I made a comment about the ass-biting slugs, and now we have tremendous sausages that make an easy meal for those who have no care for song. The bounty of betrayal is easy, but those with the will to listen may be rewarded beyond their imagination.
These sorts of playthroughs make me realize. Herbivore is far easier than carnivore because there's fruit pretty much everywhere and fighting isn't as big of a necessity
"Behold! THE MIGHT BATTLE SAUSAGE!" By far one of my favourite quote from you, also just once again excited to see you post again. Your content definitely helped push me towards doing my own challenge content
This is literally the story of the Grox, born as useless slugs without mandibles for defence, limbs for movement or senses to take pleasure in, struggling to survive amongst creatures that could run and jump and dance and sing while they were just slimy slugs that they didn’t want to dance near. Somehow, after billions upon billions of years of generational suffering, billions of years of swimming through that putrid ocean, they escaped. They won the race, they rose above it all and gained the ability to terraform entire other worlds to their liking, and yet… they were back where they started, in a vast, putrid ocean. . . And so they travelled to the centre, hoping to finally find an answer, something that would finally tell them what it all meant, in the heart of that putrid ocean, the source of the primordial chemical soup, and what they found instead… was Steve… Steve, who gave them the Staff of Life, the ability to instantly terraform exactly 42 planets, populating them with lifeforms that had mandibles with which to defend themselves, limbs with which to walk through the green marshes on sunny days, senses in which to experience pleasure, the ability to run and jump and dance and sing in a way they… could not…. *_And so they decided SCREW THEM! To hell with these foul creatures with bodily advantages that they took for granted, abilities to experience joy in ways they never even took even a sliver of a moment to appreciate! ‘Why should we help them?’ Thought the Grox, what have they EVER done for us? And so they blockaded the centre of the galaxy, ensuring no creature that they viewed unworthy and undeserving of their biological advantages could ever hope to reach it, they modified their own bodies with cybernetics to give themselves the closest thing they could ever hope to have to senses and movement, but still never came remotely close to what the blessings of Mother Nature could provide, blessings they had been deemed unworthy of, they roamed the Galaxy in five star empire ships and tormented other species, exterminating tribal villages with interplanetary space lasers. They had access to the most advanced technology in the known universe, and while it could never alleviate them of their sensual misery it could be used to make every other creature in this meaningless ocean as miserable as they were! Let them cry, let them cower in fear, let them all suffer the same horrific histories as they did. That is the story told here. That is what Spuddy created here, that, is the story of the Grox. . ._*
"Is this all that we were? All that we could be? Violence and bloodshed? Is it said that violence is never the answer, but it's also said that there's a time and place for everything. As horrible as it may seem, even such a heinous act as this may have its reason within the world. The question is not if but when. Will our actions here and now be justifiable when the future comes? Or did we simply choose the wrong time to resort to such a thing?" ( 15:31 ) holy shit man
ah yes the chicken survival strategy - unable to run or hide from predators - unable to fight back against the predators - barely able to obtain food - BUT compensates for all of this by just popping out babies faster than any predator can eat them irl this strategy works because during bamboo seeding season chicken population explodes so massively that at least some are ought to make it to the next bamboo season and repeat the cycle
So fishing in the tribal stage is... odd. There are designated fishing spots. There's no visual indicator they exist in the actual overworld, you can only see them as an icon in the minimap. They look kind like a very simplified fish. And more fishing spots do spawn as the game progresses. For me the first ones that spawn are usually pretty far away, and I don't notice ones near my tribe until I've completed like two or three of the other tribes.
That seems like such an odd choice. I know I'm not terribly observant, so it could just be on me for not seeing the icons, but it feels like the sort of thing that could be explained better. Granted, it came from the era of games that had manuals. Similarly, I can't recall if it came with one, but it and animal taming in that stage just feel like strangely well thought out features to then not bring up more clearly.
You actually can see the fishing spots in the overworld, but they are hard to make out. They look like a bunch of fish jumping out of the water where they are located.
The strat is to make sure your nest migrates to one near a body of water, and then you complete the creature stage. This gives you a much better chance of having a spawn next to a fishing spot, which you can see by the fish jumping in the water.
The space stage is honestly a lot thrown at the player all at once. For as many times as I've played the game, it was only this year that I finally finished the stage. And even still, I've no intention of doing so glitch free.
The narration of these videos is really excellent. Your style of storytelling adds drama to an otherwise goofy but mundane gaming challenge. I would have clicked the video either way, and I would have enjoyed it either way, but this aspect is what I’ll remember it for.
LORD SPUDDY SIR BE CAREFUL! You can't keep devolving back to a single cell, the doctor says it is bad on your anatom-Oh I see you're evolved back to your wonderful self again, never mind! Congratulations on another amazing challenge!
@@SpuddyCube well if it helps you Lord Spuddy then I suppose we can ignore the doctor, your anatomy isn't half as important as connecting with your roots sir!
This video and the previous spore video reminded me of some of ambiguous amphibian's older challenge videos that he's recently moved a bit away from that to faster paced videos. it filled a niche of existential gaming videos that i had really missed, Immediately subscribed!
Oddly enough, this has inspired my worldbuilding. I find these beasts fascinating. Perhaps someday, stories will be told of the titanic tri-tendrilled floral feasters, whose ethereal music is accompanied by an air of sorrow as they hear not the beauty they can produce.
AMAZING!! Im so happy to see this series come back, your scripting is beautifully written and your voice just highlights all of the good parts in some way there's no words to describe it This is honestly so relaxing and more people need to see this for nostalgia sake and for every other sake and hey! Maybe we can get that audio book business going one day :)
Alas, for all of their sacrifices, for all of their progress, the society that they built was molded around their crooked spines. They had the tools they needed to help one another, but built atop a broken foundation. Forever leaving their skeletons askew.
I wanted to write a long paragraph about how good this is but when I stepped back and read what I wrote I realized how self-absorbed it sounded which I believe would only taint such a magnificent video by so instead i’m just going to say “great video, it was really well done”
this video is one big phew. i love this thoughtful, philosophical style of summarizing your whole playthrough. I do wonder if you had thought about a lot of your script on the spot, or if you were taking notes during... having a notebook out on the side is better than a notes app sometimes, you can focus between both easier and you can also doodle. i would like to see your doodles if you ever make any. this was nice. im sleepy. have a nice day man
Thank you! I wouldn't ever really recommend it, but most of my thoughts/feelings on any given point within the videos I make are based on memory. If I remember a moment clearly after the full playthrough, it's usually a good sign that I have more to expand upon. I will sometimes write digital notes between play sessions, and fairly rarely, I'll have an idea of themes/topics I'd like to cover before starting the run. More often than not, those notes get scrapped, but...
13:54 I think I know why you are having issues with befriending tribes. You see, the trick is to NOT mash the buttons as soon as you can. There is a passive approval tick that happens the longer you do not play the next instrument. Just don’t obey the prompt until a second and a half passes and you can consistently make all the tribes happy. I haven’t played spore for a long time, but even now I still remember my struggle with the tribe stage…
5:57 That's actually very impressive! I tried no evolution (so I was faster and didn't eat through my butt) and had well over 100! Also did full pacifist creature stage and it was awful 😞
I just love how you do the commentary on these things. Somehow you manage to turn a gameplay video into a deeply entertaining documentary covering the life of a species. I will never get tired of it.
WHAT this is not only just philosophical for comedy (the joke about "our city started like many others in history, without funding" cracked me up) but philosophical FOR TRUTH is amazing
This isnt a play through. This is a documentary

I love existentialism in my spore video
“The spine got a bit misaligned, straightening that out was harder than I thought”
This species is basically a sea slug
This species has two subspecies, the ferocious battle sausage (carnivorous), and the emotional support bean (herbivorous)
It's a very important distinction that's best made at a distance for one's own safety.
There is only one species left to bridge the gap between carnivore and herbivore.
as one commenter from the previous spore video said, the script is waaay overqualified for a game walkthrough ☠☠
i love when i find the giant singing thumbs when i go to the beach
Update: Nevermind, they burnt my house down, i hate these guys
🤣
the fact that it was edited afterwards too XD
Lol😂
i genuinely love how this is sorta... half challenge run, half poetry compilation. it's a really neat way of doing things!
I Have Only A Mouth And I Must Scream

It’s almost poetic that in cell stage the creatures thrived by killing themselves.
