Pour résumer, un vélomobile, outre le confort, c'est comme si t'étais en mode sprint VD, c'est assez énorme. Les gars qui te suivent sprintent mais, et c'est normal, abandonnent au bout d'une minute ou deux ;)

Certainly fun and fast! Of course they cannot be comparable though, since at less than the price of a velomobile you can buy a trail mtb + a triathlon bike + a road bike + an urban commuter bike and hence have a lot more versatility, so it's all a matter of personal needs and preferences. :)
+Marco Ottaviano I believe you underestimate the costs of a high-end tri bike, high-end road bike and hi-end mtb. Any one of those can get to 50% of the cost of a Velomobile.
+Duncan Watson That's true, you're partly right. Thinking about it, I'd rather have a cyclocross than a tt bike though. However, you don't need a top-end mtb, or road, or cyclocross to have fun and to ride fast (in other words, spending 900% more money on those, gives you probably less than a 5% advantage in speed). :)

et encore, les conditions n'étaient pas réunies ce jour là : il était 13h et j'étais a jeun depuis 6 heures, pas d'eau avec moi (taré le mec ^^) et je n'avais pas le toit, toit qui me fait bien gagner 8 km/h en pointe ! ... je ferais une prochaine vidéo ou l'écart de performance avec un vélo droit sera plus flagrante :-)

@@jonabub je viens d'acheter mon premier couché 2 roues . si je m'en sers bien comme prevu je chopperai un trois roue plus tard et je ferai un carenage moi meme. c'est trop cher pour moi sinon
@@TheMadsenmads C'est ce que je me suis dit aussi. J'ai meme collecté des pancartes de coroplaste lors des dernières élections ici. Mais je redoutes un peu le poids du véhicules final et je me demande si ma Speedmachine n'aurais pas elle aussi besoin d'un p'tit carénage. Même s'il ne serais pas complet. Juste le fait d'avoir les pieds au chaus et sec m'intrigue.

I've been thinking, after watching these things for a couple days, that it might be cool to build one kinda like Craig Breedlove's Spirit of America. The black streamliner. Add some gears for more torque multiplication. Not sure how you guys do it? I'd like to get one up to 120mph.

Tu prends quoi comme doppage pour doubler des vélos de 10 kg avec un bouzin de 30 dans une côte à 18% ? Et c'est un vélomobilste qui te pose la question

@@thirymx1486 Il n'y a pas d'assistance electrique, 100% musculaire, c'est indiqué à la fin de la vidéo.

It's 18% and they must have had bad gearing. It's really hard if you don't have a compact BCD.
@@SimonWoodburyForget Or your legs if you are a long time BMXer. There is a few short 18% (about 250meter)where i live and back when i BMX all the time I would sprint up em as fast as possible. Its was alway fun cos that would be the only time i'd overtake roadies on my BMX! (or to clarify, that was on a 42 teeth front chain ring to 16 back, race gearing)

At what grade does bikes weight advantage climb better?
Never! A recumbent trike with full aerodynamic faring (Velomobile) has 6 advantages that permanently outclass every upright bike even the best racing bikes.
1) Reclining position allows for more efficient use of legs, body and back because the rider can push against the back of his seat it will allow for more pressure on pedals than an upright would with full body weight on the pedals.
2) Reclining position means the heart doesn’t have to work against gravity pumping the blood vertical instead pumping the blood horizontally means less stress on the heart and better cardio response from the body.
3) Three wheels means vehicle stability even on the steepest of inclines. The rider of an upright may not be able to keep up the speed necessary to keep his bike balanced; while the rider of a recumbent or Velomobile can go as slow or fast as his energy allows.
4) The low profile of a Velomobile means less wind resistance.
5) The aerodynamic shell means greater speed with less effort.
6) Long term comfort of arms, hands, crotch, back, legs and you get to see the scenery.
That is why upright bicycles can’t reach highway speeds but Velomobile can. The land speed record for an HPV is 83 MPH. An upright bicycle can never do that.
Anthony Rizzo This doesn't really answer his question. I agree you gave good advantages and this video showed recumbents climb very well! But we don't know who was putting more power on the hills. At some point wind drag isn't much of an issue anymore and weight becomes by far the biggest factor. A good cyclist with correct gearing can climb pretty much any hill without having to stop and can also zig zag to reduce perceived gradient, something a recumbent can't do without taking too much space.

Meaning, IMHO, as I coached road riders; it's not the bike, it's the rider ...that climbs hills. That said, on a Diamond Frame (DF), the lighter the bike, it will typically be stiffer, have better geometry, quality components with less friction including hub/bearing quality and better lacing and tires. Weight advantage typically comes with quality advantage. So it's not a GRADE issue but more a fitness/experience/bike quality issue and a lot of it is individual.
The video is a young seasoned Velo rider with excellent cardio and cadence using aerodynamics and leverage to go fast.
I have never zig zagged up a hill on my recumbents ('bent). But 'bents don't have to zig zag because of the mechanical and aerodynamic advantage mentioned by Anthony Rizzo. We all push against some wind even when climbing; recumbents, less.
Point: The most force you can apply to a pedal on a DF is your body weight (and not all of it on one pedal) when out of the saddle. Otherwise you are spinning or using gravity and pulling on the handlebars. A 'bent spins up a hill but they can "put your back into it" by basically doing seated leg presses. And I can press more with my back supported, you have more leverage. It's an acquired skill. ;)

BadBent You're still not answering his question, I'll answer at the end of the message (5% grade). There is a grade where weight becomes an advantage, we're talking 30kg vs 7kg. This is huge! I agree you can push more on a recumbent, but you need to be able to provide this aerobic output and even though you can squat 150kg, you won't sustain this non-stop for 1 min :) For a 73kg rider this is a .8W/kg advantage. But don't take my word for it, use an accurate calculator. Bike wins against recumbent while pushing a very generous 300W at only 5%. At 200W equilibrium is 4%. In other words, this guy was racing, others were strolling.
www.gribble.org/cycling/power_v_speed.html (using 0.01 frontal aerea and 0.01 loss% for the recumbent which are crazy low values). And unless you're pushing 400W, bike and components won't matter (unless you're a salesman), I've tried it and I do have a power meter.

avec assistance electrique oui. L'avantage du velomobile c est surtout en dehors des cotes, beaucoup moins fatiguant grace a l'aerodynamisme

no ! In the past I just used my tt bike for Fun, never for move ! When I discover the recumbent, my life changed ^^ after : 9000 km with optima stinger recumbent and 23 000 km with my Waw velomobile ;-)

Used to do the same on a BMX. To be fair I ran the route twice a day at a sprint so...
6:00 - It annoys me when people think they can draft a velomobile. 1) They can't 2) It's dangerous 3) If you do brake suddenly then end up breaking your velomobile. I get very annoyed when they do this and either tell them to @#$% off... or just accelerate away and watch them slowly die of exhaustion.
Il faudrait comparer vélo vs vélomobile avec 2 cyclistes de même niveau. Sinon, ça ne veut rien dire.

Vous savez que ce n'est pas bien de comparer des vélos qui n'ont rien à voir. Sur un vélo de route, y'a pas de leviers, de système elliptiques, c'est vraiment tout à la force des jambes. Ça reste deux appareils très différents. C'est comme si tu comparais un vélo route et un Fixie. Et comme tu le dis dans un de tes commentaires, tu n'es pas un grand rouleur à la base. Il faudrait refaire la même vidéo mais cette fois-ci, les mecs que tu doubles seraient également en HPV et tu filmerais de devant crois moi! Sinon, à essayer pour passer la barre des 90kmh sur sol plat!
+Keep Cycling Bonjour, exact, c'est pourquoi je n'ai pas annoncé de vitesses, de puissance ou de mesure pointue car je sais que le vélomobile est de toute façon plus performant. le but n'est évidement pas de comparer une ferrari au pot de yaourt... ici je montre juste qu'un jeune sans grande préparation peu se faire plaisir en dépassant certains vélos droits bien affutés. et c'est seulement grace au vélomobile, cette machine plus fine, qui offre un meilleur rendement au pédalage. J'ai déjà eu affaire à des gros rouleurs en vélomobile, notamment pendant les championnats du monde 2014 et 2015 auxquels j'ai participé. ils étaient bien loin devant moi ! Mais c'est aussi parce qu'ils avaient des vélomobiles encore plus performants !
Autant prendre un vélo normal , beaucoup plus pratique et vous serez moin ridicule qu'avec cette daube.
