      Jeep Wrangler Rubicon with solid front and rear axles, front and rear diff locks, electronic sway bar disconnect trumps an open IFS. It’s just a fact.

      Sure Alex, but the Jeep in the video was just a regular Sahara (with all terrain tyres).

    All suvs made on top of the holl are lighter than that of prado. Tyres of prado is just right. I noticed The owner of prado did modification on front and rear bumper. He put heavy bumpers. A bit stupid. Also center of the gravity of pick ups are much more leaning toward frontnside, while prado regressed toward the center because of heavy cabin + additional weight = more pull toward 270°, thus resultant is leaning nearer to

  • @JimmyDevere
    @JimmyDevere 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This should be titled "open vs. locked diffs". The Prado is clearly relying on traction control, the Hilux is heavily modded and probably has at least a rear locker if not front and rear, and is helped by itls longer wheel base in this instance. The jeep is open here as well (the right side is spinning/biting more than the left) but the driver had more speed and the jeep is lighter.

    • @TopDjir

      Jeep Wrangler Sahara - no lockers

    I notice theres not much talk about purchase cost here, I would think a Toyota or land cruiser are substantially more expensive than a jeep, I've got a 2010 2dr, 6 speed jeep and it goes damn near anywhere ( and I have a winch for when I bite off more than I can chew) but I don't mind scratches and dings because that's what it is meant for. That being said, I would never buy new one if you intend to wheel it on the weekends, who wants to wheel a nice new ride and beat the hell out of it? Not to mention warranty issues due to mods. 2 dr jeep is king offroad with that short wheelbase

      They sold them as LandCruiser Prado here for the first generation. They got unmercifully shitcanned then changed it to just "Prado".
      The dearest "Prados" in Australia, new are around $94k. Mine, new 23 years ago was $87k.
      Totally different vehicles. An 80 series LandCruiser will chew up and spit out any shit heap Jeep.

  • @cooperware5811
    @cooperware5811 6 ปีที่แล้ว +63

    Lol, it's a Land Cruiser Prado, not a Landcruiser. The Prado is a relative of the Landcruiser which was made for comfort and does not prioritize 4wd/offroad capabilities. It is still a capable vehicle, though a true Landcruiser (60, 70, 80 series) is made specifically for harsh offraod conditions and would tackle everything in the video with ease.

    • @alc7505

      Copper ware is right. Toyota specifically introduced the prado as a little brother to the real landcruiser at the time theycame out. The prado has lighter chassis, drivetrain and smaller engine with reduced payload and durability. But far less cost of production to make them more affordable. Dont get me wrong they are a great vehicle, but they are not in the same class as a true landcruiser

    • @broncokonco
      @broncokonco 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Not to mention, it only takes one deep stream crossing to need a snorkel. It's not as if you should take your snorkel off every time you get to a shallow stream...
      I blew an engine driving through too deep of water, and I've never made fun of trucks with snorkels since.

    • @VapidToast
      @VapidToast 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      broncokonco I've done just fine with just a cowl on a cold air intake lol I've been in almost four feet of water with no problem. Even the stock intake on a jeep is fine unless you have the hood underwater completely lol

    • @broncokonco
      @broncokonco 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Obviously every vehicle is different. Not everyone drives Jeeps. I have a TJ now, and I'm very happy with how the stock airbox performs going through water. However, my 1st gen 4runner was designed in the most boneheaded way with the opening of the air intake aimed strait out the front of the grill. I was in about 3 ft of water, maybe a bit more, and I hydrolocked the engine and bent a rod.

    • @VapidToast
      @VapidToast 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      broncokonco That is absolutely stupid engineering lol

    • @HartyBiker
      @HartyBiker 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      dannypstl423 a lot of cars breathe better through a snorkel. I put a snorkel on my Navara and when I removed the old intake pipes they were all moulded into a stupid twisty pre-filter. The snorkel is just much more direct. Plus they help with things like dust as the air above your roof is usually way cleaner than in your wheel arch. Besides, you only need 1 deep water crossing for it to be worth it ay?

    • @dannypstl423
      @dannypstl423 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      LoneW0lf11 I don't know where you live or that vehicle that you're describing. But I do know a fair amount about hydrolocking engine stand Crossing through water it on my list of things that I would do before a high water crossing is snorkel is pretty far down the list I can go through waist-deep water in my Jeep Wrangler no problem without a snorkel. I think the biggest concern in a gasoline engine is the ignition system getting wet most are boxes are high up and even then you'll typically dump all your breather tubes underwater before you hydrolock your engine. Where I live we pretty much consider those people posers with pavement Queens

    • @UnseenSpirit
      @UnseenSpirit 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      dannypstl423 if you look at some of the other videos in this channel, people go into water which is part of a course . Perhaps these people go more than waist deep at times...

    • @freedomrider266
      @freedomrider266 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Who makes the vehicle is not important? Well, I guess Toyota should just close up shop since near-bullet proof design and super reliability is no longer important. Just buy a Yugo, throw on some lockers, gears and go run The Rubicon Trail...

      I've heared the experts from Australia and Africa, many of them agree the Wrangler is the best off-roader from stock. However they also agree it's not the best option for overlanding, where the 70 series land cruiser is the king due to its solid construction, reliability, usable space, availability of spare parts and many other attributes where the Jeep falls behind.
      Long story short, for weekend off-road enthusiasts the Jeep will do perfectly even stock. For long, technical and vehicle punishing 4x4 expeditions the LC for sure. Greetings from Costa Rica too :D

    Nobody ever cares to mention that Jeep manufacturing standards are atrocious compared to Toyota - In harsh outback Australia, you'll see 75 and 78 series Landcruisers mostly, that's because they're more reliable than any other vehicle on earth.
    Jeeps look great, they perform well when they work, but that doesn't cut it up North.

      Kristopher Klassen Not so, you can check under a freedom of information act and see how many defective vehicle's are produced by any company - Jeep are right up there, producing one defective heap of shit after another!

      crazyt1ger08 Jeep owner's aren't likely to speak pooly about their vehicle's but I have owned one and can say it was an absolute heap of shit - My 'new' 97 TJ Wrangler blew cold water all over my feet when the Air conditioning was on, experienced electrical issue's and began stalling when pushed around corners or when decending down steep offroad slopes.
      Jeep service in North Melbourne (At the time) couldn't see a problem and gave the car back just as defective as it was when I dropped it in - I later returned the car again only to be told (Once again) that my car was fine - I subsequently told the dickheads at Jeep that I'd be contacting The Department of Consumer Affairs regarding Jeeps failure to fix my heap of shit.
      Approx two weeks later Jeep returned my TJ to me with $1400 AUD of new parts - it seemed that they just swapped out a ton of parts given that they couldn't diagnosis a fault.
      I'm happy to state that I rolled the TJ in the Victorian High Country approx six months later - it was written off and I purchased a 93 80 Series Landcruiser with the money.
      I did 317k in my Cruiser over 12 years traveling Australia, in that time I replaced a clutch and three starter motor's.
      There are virtually no pre 2000 TJ's left on Aussie roads - they all ended up on the scrap heap years ago.
      I'm not butt hurt, I'm wise.

      Robin Banks
      Well I've owned two and I've had this Grand WH/WK for 8 years now without any issues.
      I suggest trying to maintain your vehicles, just because a hose burst in yours doesn't justify saying all Jeeps suck.
      Also if you buy a second hand one, in fact any 4x4, don't be surprised if a previous owner tried too many river crossings without preparing the car, that fucks 4x4s no matter what badge it has on the hood.
