Then he's got years of improving within the pro game. Do you honestly think 16 year old Kobe, or Shaq, or LeBron or Michael were as good as they were became by their peak years? Flagg is right when he said you can’t take him out of his game based on your scouting/coaching. He doesn’t just have one thing he’s good at. His defense is arguably his best attribute. He can shoot, rebound, elite blocking, defend, has handles, makes great passes. You can cherry pick anyone’s missed shot and say ah yes your foot was too crooked, or your knees were bent 5° too much… please. No one can stop him in highschool right now. No need to compare him NBA because he still has to finish highschool and college. And his mom is actually a really good coach who played D1 with plenty of awards. I agree totally with you. I think the kid is very good but has weaknesses that have to be improved to be very good at next level. However I would say I see this in most top prospects now. It’s become a game of natural advantages and flashy dunks and great outside shooting. But the overall fundamentals are weak. Boxing out. Defending off the ball. After using a pick missing the picker rolling to basket. In many cases terrible fundamentals from players considered really good. This is why despite great natural talent the rest of the world is getting hard to beat in international play. The old nyc catholic hs fundamentals are not taught or drilled enough. These fundamentals used to be mastered and allowed players to pull even or surpass more athletic players. So today they shoot better then ever and are bigger and more athletic but have poor overall fundamentals.

The talent is there 1000% but at that next level obviously everyone is as talented as you. It comes down to specific details at that next level that this dude is pointing out. The criticism is based on NBA level. Hes been alive for like 16 years lol these are warranted mistakes anyways. No other eybl player was close to those stats. I don't think this young man is the 2nd coming of Lebron or Jordan, but for God's sake, he was 16 years old in this video. He grew up in rural Maine and is currently far from a complete player. Give him time to grow into his body. This is what someone with a little knowledge sounds like while pretending to really know what he's talking about. The fake bluster don't fool me. The errors you point to here are as common as a cold for all young players, no matter how great they are or how much potential they have.
Decision making on offense comes with experience and with working your way to the top when you're surrounded by other great players. And no one learns how to really play defense until they get into college and get the right teaching and repetition needed to master that end of the floor. If you're looking for good defensive play in AAU ball you might as well be looking for a needle in a stack of straw. And who told you that a shooters feet had to be "aligned" in order for them to have a good release? Pure nonsense.
A legitimate scout would have highlighted the kid's strengths and weaknesses. He would have included video depicting some of the good things he observed while reviewing his game tape. It would not have held back from being critical but would have done so in a positive and encouraging way. This is particularly true for a kid of Cooper's age.
BTW... I have 30 years of HS and College coaching experience and have travelled back and forth across the country coaching AAU ball....the worst thing that's happened to youth basketball in the last 50 years. Fake coaches, "trainers" and scouts abound. I can sniff em out from a mile away. Parents and players beware.

That's a lot of words to say "I cant do this and you can".
You know one thing I've never done as a coach is go to another coach's comments and hid behind a fake profile and criticize. It reeks of cowardice. It shows the values you have in life. I'm pretty sure you're also one of those coaches who get on the kids for being a soft TikTok generation yet here you are mimicking their antics.
We are grown men in here. Stop acting like a child. If you are a real coach with real connections, call around and ask about me. In the future, think about what kind of example you are setting crying in another man's comments. If you don't like what I post, no one is forcing you to be here. @@oldschoolsaint

I was tough on you in the first two sentences of my post. That may not have been appropriate. The fact that I believe your criticism of the kid was unduly harsh, unprofessional, and inaccurate was no excuse for my harsh language. I apologize for that.
However, I backed up my criticism of you with with a sound and legitimate argument. I made specific points regarding what I thought was lacking and inappropriate in what you posted about Flagg. If you disagree with my take on your work here let's hear your rebuttal, not silly references to manhood, anonymity on the internet (duh) and your reputation.
For the record, I think it's perfectly ok to critique kids publicly as you do...even though it's not my cup of tea. It's part of the world we live in today. But that does not absolve us (coaches) from the responsibility to do so with care and consideration. A 16 year old kid is still a 16 year old kid.
Again, I apologize for my harshness.
It's more important to be a mentor and servant leader than a perceived guru. Keep the passion going. Coach on brother.

You cherry picked clips from eybl where he plays pg on offense and center on defense because his team is garbage. He doesn’t play like this at montverde and his impact on intangible plays is off the charts. He constantly overcompensates offensively and defensively for eybl so of course he’s gonna have some lowlights, please watch him at montverde when he plays within a team rather than BEING the team. This generation is probably the least skilled, not the most skilled. Majority have no post game. Majority have no concept of moving without the ball. They look so great offensively because their defenders are severely handicapped by the rules that are in place. The actual concept of what constitutes a legal dribble has been bent to allow them to consistently carry/double dribble, in addition to how many of the stars are allowed to have multiple pivot foots and thus travel when the situation suits them. The officials often bend over backwards to accomadate the shortcomings and bad habits that they have picked up from pick up ball and AAU. The fact that so many are playing fewer and fewer college games if any at all means they arrive in the league lacking training in the fundamentals but still with a certain level unrealistic expectations that stunts their further growth as a player. Too often their overall development is stunted by the team that drafts them, dependent upon the competence of those in charge and how well they are committed to it AND how much the player is committed and sold on it. If his ego is massive that may be a hard sell.

    • @coreyYAPPS

Fellow mainer here. He hasn't just been playing HS ball against other mainers this whole time though. He plays year round in national tournies, he has without a doubt competed against the best of the best at his age group and dominated, don't take that away from him. Agree he has a lot of untapped potential to fill though, to me his biggest weakness is just that, he's not very strong, but that will come with age + lifting, and a consistent diet and if he's serious about being a lottery pick.
