Hey, this reminds me of some episode in the HealthyGamerGG channel, where Doctor K explained that all-or-nothing mentality is basically our brain's way of trying to trick us into a self-sabotaging behavior. Why? In the brain's POV, it wants to conserve as much energy as possible and do less work. So, by creating an all-or-nothing mentality the brain ensures we choose nothing most of the time and thus it has to work less. This actually makes sense and hopefully knowing this helps me get around the brain's trick.

A bit of struggle for people like me “a perfectionist” one day of FAP creates a domino effect to the next other day. It’s like “yeah, I failed why not enjoy the next other day” which I think it’s getting harder for me to get back on track. It requires a full motivation and that’s the thing harder for me to revive the day I’m dedicated to do so.

I realized my mindset towards sticking with nofap was what was hindering me on completing my goals. The percentage based mindset is what I came to the conclusion of not that long ago. I've gone from doing it everyday (sometimes multiple times in a day). To not even thinking about it for a week or two at a time.....Remember nofap isn't just quitting completely but giving our brain time to reset and get back to normal. If you fail, get up and go again. If you last 1 week of nofap THATS PROGRESS! If you last 3 days of nofap THATS PROGRESS!!! There was a day you did it everyday. now you're doing it every 3 or 4 days. KEEP MAKING THAT TIME OFF LONGER UNTIL YOU DONT NEED TO DO IT ANYMORE! Progress is progress and that in itself is something to be proud of. The ones who lose are the ones who quit. Don't quit and keep working towards your goals!

This is correct. It may take years of applying yourself to quitting any addiction. Eventually the relapses will have larger gaps between them until those gaps are months long, and honestly, once you're that far in you'll probably have a flatline anyway and won't even feel desire to go back because you'll be too depressed. You get better at not doing it the longer you abstain.
Also, if you look into any literature on addiction the common factor of quitting is usually finding a spiritual purpose. Which I actually believe semen retention can naturally lead to, as your mind and body quickly start seeking a new source of "comfort" when your primary one is taken away which usually leads to seeking out knowledge or like-minded people to bond with.

All Addictions can be super compulsive so i always found the “30 day nofap” streak to be a no for me. Instead I’m overcoming my addiction gradually and in a scheduled way, this helps make the impulsive urge weaker

  • @ericfohlman7921
    @ericfohlman7921 3 ปีที่แล้ว +65

I made a perfect 96 day hardmode streak and I was obsessed with going to 6 months. Best believe I took I hard. That mentality of I might as well now that I failed almost always happened. But just as you are saying I adopted a new belief that the only came after proving to myself that could at least do 90 days. That is the goal is to become the next version of yourself and that is only attainable trough improving yourself everyday and the result is a compounding effect. Today I’m on something I call nofap life where my goal is to not count days but making them count.
If someone was wondering you do still have a hunch on what day you’re on but that’s it it doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters is that you live it now, like you have already achieved freedom and challenge your reality now to make sure it comes true.
I say to all of you the failing is part of the process we simply fail our way to success.

Honestly, I didn’t feel that different. I was working on getting there for so long that I changed how I view the challenge. It became part of my life style so getting to 90 was just another day in the life. My best tip is finding something you really want to do in life and work toward it. And then ask yourself if this something you would do if you were the person you want to be. And keep on going. Fail but never give up. It is only failure if you stop trying to be better. Learn and move on. Eventually you will know how your body works and what trigger you and even when you’re about to have a nocturnal emission. And after a while you will feel free to do it if you want but you won’t have that desire. You will want to do many other thing instead. Like growing you business or learning a skill or just improve your relations. Best of luck and enjoy the journey of life everyone. Sounds cliche but what doesn’t kill you will definitely make you stronger so stay at it. If your going through hell. Just keep going and you find it to be better and better haha.

In my life for a long time the biggest benefit I felt from NoFap was that of my own self-love and accceptance of myself that I stumbled upon as I was being disciplined around NoFap. And the reason it sucked so much at one point when I relapsed was not because of the relapse itself but the fact that the self-love that I was giving myself for performing well went straight out the window with it. It was me beating myself up that was negative about my "failures". Cause the beat down and worrying that came after changed my emotional state from empowered to piece of shit on an unconscious level every time I "failed". The problem for me was never porn, but the poor self-worth I had that lead me to get stuck in this cycle of needing to peform to allow myself to feel self love or worthy or w/e.I know it sounds cliché but self love was the real power for me and I know it is for many others too, with it your life changes.

I feel like the biggest problem with porn addictions is that most people nowadays don’t really consider it to be an addiction. This has hurt me personally because most of my peers don’t recognize porn to be a bad thing that hurts you. This makes it difficult when you’re trying to stop and most people around you push it off as if it’s completely okay when it’s not.

Btw, this is what you should consider "after" you've just relapsed, so it would prevent you from binging. While on a streak, you can't let any doors open for you to relapse. Like, "I'm not gonna lose all of my progress. It'll just go from say 96% to 93%. Might as well sneak a quick nut in since I'm feeling like it"
    There you go, another relapse.
If you adopt this system, your brain WILL use this loophole when it gives you urges in order to get you to relapse.

2021 and 2022 I was gonna do NNN, but both times my High School's online gradebook opened during the first week of November. What's more is that on the day they opened, it always gave trouble to sign in and brought up a screen similar to getting locked out of it due to failing 3 or more subjects. I remember I was panicking so much because of my strict mother so I ended up "driving the stick shift" both times to let off steam and calm down. By the time I was done I'd not only feel calmer but the stupid gradebook would start working to show I had nothing to worry about. Because I had the idea of a streak of No Fap I figured "I already failed so their is no point" and went back to daily "rides". There's a flaw in your idea. You're forgetting that a single relapse even after months of being clean causes a chasing effect where the person's resistance to further relapses is extremely low or sometimes even non existent. Basically one relapse makes you extremely vulnerable. If you ask most people you'll find that for porn addicts, when they relapse it takes a while before they get back to a stable nofap challenge. This is an experiment I and many others I've spoken to have tried in the past and the chances of success are very very slim.

Yea you make a valid and I understand where you coming from, but at the time I think you missing the point he trying to make. Cause basically what he was trying to say is don’t give in or give up just because you slip up one’s or twice and you making slow progress. All long as you are consistent and don’t lose your reasoning for starting, than you will win. It just like falling down and get right back up. It hard but not impossible.

This is great advice. I've just set up an excel spreadsheet to keep track of my percentage. Type in Column A the dates of the year, or however long you want to record for. Column B is your Nofap or fap column. Put either 1 or 0 next to the relevant date; 1 if you successfully no-fap or 0 if you had an oopsie. Next those two columns, in Column D Row 1 you want 1 cell which has the AVERAGE formula, with all the cells in Column B selected up until the cell next to the end of your time period in column A. Then set the data format in cell D1 to show as percentage. Voila, you have a percentage record that will automatically update as you gradually fill in Column B with (many) 1s and (very few) 0s.

Thing is people who fap a lot are depressed, no social life, hardly taking to friend or family in day or maybe a week and they are struggling in their lives. It's not good addiction to have and not bad like drugs and other kinda stuff. My point is it's ok to fap for some time with some control. If it makes you feel happy for even a short time and help to make life little easy then you shouldn't regret it to doing it.

I couldn't agree more. I think that there's a brain fog of dangerously aggravated frustration that could literally make a person feel pissed off, empty and hopeless in life if there isn't a slip up...and down...every once in a while. I say don't plan for it. If it's been more than 60 days you're probably there tho & it'll make every other pointless nut you resisted, so.. so... worth it..value increase by +1000%!
I've been on the same journey even though I am a female because I literally had to or I was gonna get knocked up....
again😒. (Im a 3x champ including once while on hard-core birthcontrol)
Which basically turned into me going female nofap from learning about it here... because basically 😐 mom-bligations were going downhill fast and It was like do I get to the bus stop on time??? or am I gonna be one more timing it and then running down the road as I get dressed in shame...the life I wanted to be living 24/7 vs. My actual real life. So now I can go days and weeks and then. Everything stops. Literally i become depressed. Notice new wrinkles. Wanna die. And as long as I make it super fast with an absolute time limit and refuse//100% restrict myself from doing it again the next day (a trick high functioning drug addicts use...but it works when you're addicted to humping too)...I can forgive myself for being human and tell myself no.. I am not sorry for having sexual needs in a healthy and safe, responsible balanced way. I give myself that permission to be a happy, healthy, nonviolent mentally stable and fully functioning productive and focused nonskanky mom lady person again. If you're feeling guilt or shame for one time.....even after regaining self control and reinstating confidence in your ability to resist..m there's a deeper underlying issue that requires therapy, so re-self evaluate & gain serious new levels of rationalizing human primal needs, nonsexual self love, healing and self acceptance. So Keep your heads up men, the world needs you!!!! Especially if you are the high quality men that are emotionally intelligent enough to even attempt no fap!!! Y'all are my favorites 😆
    Ladies is pimps too.
    But Stay focused.
    One love.

Before, I would fap 3-4 times a week. It was awful. After discovering Nofap, I used the streaks method for years. I even made it to 90 days 3 separate times. I would really beat myself up for relapsing, and I thought I landed back at square one. But now I think, "I used to be a 4 faps per week addict. I've come a long way from the person I was 5 years ago." Now, I don't even bother with streaks but just put my slip up days in my calendar. It's so encouraging to see fewer and fewer fap days as the months go on.

Point is, when you fail, remember to reflect on what's improved when you abstained. Sure, you need to reflect on what makes you fail, but remember that, for instance, you have lessened the frequency, you have learned what triggers you, or what new habit/hobby/passion you have developed that helped you both abstaining and improved your life. Also remember leniency is not an excuse or free pass. If you start thinking that way, something is wrong with your method.

Well, initially when I started no fap I too relapsed oops slipped in pretty frequently. But with the effects of PMO like brain fog decreasing I could really feel the change that it had given me. Out of all of the No FAP challenge I find that it is not that one enticing video topic in mind that harms but it is the minds ability to give some lame excuse to watch it. I mean my mind just cooks up things like "You couldn't talk to her properly today maybe you just need to be more manly" or "I have had a very bad day today why not relieve myself a bit" . It is this kind of self talk that ruins my streak and make me want to binge watch such stuff but just by noting a 5 sec of talking about it consciously I can kind of make myself to close that tab and it goes a long way while maintaining the winning streak. :)
