    My boy passed away in September 2023 at nearly 13. It took me 3 months to be able to talk about him without breaking down. Now, finally, I smile when reminiscing about him. I decided the house was too quiet. On May 1 I pick up my Toller puppy! I cannot wait to have a little chew monster back in the house!

      I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. That's the hardest part about having a dog. I'm glad to hear that you've moved to be able to smile when thinking about him - you know that's what he would want 😃 Best of luck with the new pup!

    "Always up for a challenge, and never physically exhausted." That's a fact. I made the mistake of letting my toller out to do her business in the back yard unleashed. She always comes back. Always... until she sees some guy jogging by. She ran off at top speed (which is another amazing thing about tollers) and apparently accompanied this random guy on a six mile run.
    Then she slept for about a day.

    The Toller "scream" is one of the most annoying thing about a Toller unless you own one in which case it is their way of communicating excitement or discomfort to you. Usually it's excitement as we near the dog park. It's magical to be in a group of Tollers when they all start screaming from excitement as they chase their balls and floaties. When you've been away and you get the scream when you walk in the door it's like a big fluffy hug.

    She's a beauty, you've obviously done an incredible job! I've long looked at this breed, hard to come by to some degree. Do you think this breed could do ok in a suburban environment with a medium sized home/yard and lots of walking? (maybe an occasional hike). I often see this breed portrayed as a hunting dog that needs lots of wide open space to run, etc. and not sure I could provide that. Thanks!

    • @ADuckTollerNamedSable
      @ADuckTollerNamedSable  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks so much, Randy!
      We do live in a suburban environment (on under 0.5 acre), and so far so good. Yes, honestly, Sable would thrive if we had more space for her to run around (and that would make our lives easier!), and we definitely are hoping to get that for her someday. As long as you can toss a ball, take the pup on walks, and make sure that you're mentally stimulating them, I'd say you're fine from my personal experience. The mental stimulation is the BIGGEST component to wearing out Sable - if we work her mind, that tires her out more than any walk/run/playtime. Just make sure you have the time to commit to wearing out their brains!

    My #7 would surely be just how absolutely adorable they are! I'd love to see more vids of day-to-day interaction with her, and her responses to you talking to her. It's obvious (especially at the end of this vid) that she knows her name, and she has a very active mind.
    We don't own a pet because my wife is violently allergic (even to "hypoallergenic" breeds), so we get our furry-fix from watching vids like yours. I grew up with a border collie, and she was hilarious to ask questions - I know they don't really understand, but they respond to the tone, and intelligent breeds like your Toller and Border Collies are among the best.

    • @ADuckTollerNamedSable
      @ADuckTollerNamedSable  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Michael - thank you so much for your support and kind words! This is exactly why we wanted to start a TH-cam channel to begin with! 🙂
      Day-to-day interactions is definitely a great suggestion! That would be good to showcase just how responsive she can be to us. I wish that she could actually talk!
      I'm sorry to hear about your wife's allergies! I'm glad that we can help provide a little fix for you. Border collies and tollers are so smart - I bet you had a blast growing up with a borer collie!

      I'd say do your research to make sure that the breed is a good fit for your lifestyle! Sable requires training and exercise every day. It's important to speak to breeders to make sure they are well informed about the breed and show the proper care when selecting homes for their puppies.

    she's a beaut. have you hiked with sable a lot? getting a toller at the end of June :-) and wanted to head out camping/hiking but have read this isn't advised for a year to 18 months. any other resoures you recommend? thanks for video

    • @ADuckTollerNamedSable
      @ADuckTollerNamedSable  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Ben! Thanks for watching! We have hiked with Sable a little bit so far - we will definitely do more as she is getting older. We took her on a very short hike (under a mile) when she was probably 8 months old or so. We did this just to get her comfortable with the idea/atmosphere/noises. It went really well. She is noticeably calmer in the woods than walking around town.
      We actually took her on a hike on her first birthday and have done so a few times since then. She LOVES it. That hike was about 2.5-3 miles, so still not far. We are hoping to build up to longer hikes, though I'm sure she would be fine given that she is so high energy. We also have a 30' leash that I put around my waist to work on recall on the hikes/let her have a little independence for sniffing around.
      I'd highly recommend taking your pup camping to get them used to that environment, even if you don't take them for a hike. This can only help them learn to be comfortable in that environment and hopefully calm down/relax. That's our biggest issue - getting Sable to calm down/relax in new places. The sooner you can do that, the better!
      Hope this helps! Let us know if you have any other questions and enjoy your new puppy in June!

    • @ADuckTollerNamedSable
      @ADuckTollerNamedSable  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Marcia! I'm so glad you're enjoying your new pup! We have Lemonade. I've included my link here: (www.lemonade.com/r/linseybowersox)
      They've been super helpful and easy to work with. There are a few additional add-ons you can opt for - including preventative care (which helps cover some shots, blood tests, office visit, and a heartworm test) and there is actually a puppy add-on (which I think helps cover spaying, etc).
      We had an emergency incident with Sable where she swallowed something she shouldn't have and the claims process was easy. It was all through an app on my phone. I also opted for the 90%/10% split, which was nice, especially since puppies are more prone to eat something they shouldn't!
      Let me know if you have any other questions!

    She’s such a good girl! I was wondering is she the first dog you ever raised? My boyfriend and I are looking into getting a toller, we both have experience with dogs but it would be our first puppy. I’m a little anxious if it would be a suitable breed for us then

    • @ADuckTollerNamedSable
      @ADuckTollerNamedSable  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Lisa! Thank you for your support! She really is shaping into a great dog (after a LOT of hard work!). This is our first day, too - I had a dog growing up who wasn't very well trained (she was a lab) and my fiance never had a dog. Sable is his first!
      Sable has definitely been more work than a "normal puppy" - she requires a ton of mental enrichment/stimulation, time, and patience. But, oh my has it been rewarding! Especially now that she is turning into more of a dog than a puppy. (Bittersweet!)
      I'd say that if you have the time to devote, have the patience, and are willing to put in the hard work, this breed is 10000% worth it. If we can do it, you guys can do it! I will say that I often tell my mom that "I hope kids are easier than this!" but I would do it all over again if given the choice. Let us know if there is anything specific you'd like to see in future videos or any other questions you have. We'd be happy to answer!

I hope they don't. As to her fitness, you get to take some credit, for not letting her get heavy, she looks good.
