1:57 - "The harmonics on a low string like this are really, really gnarly." Rob in background, nodding with the same face as I had, proves you're right. Gnarly.
Essa was the first person to ever call you Bobby (to my knowledge) and at first I was like oh no I don’t think he is a Bobby but good lord she was right. A Bobby through and THROUGH.
Now all I can think of is Hank Hill yelling "BOBBY!" while Bobby (Rob) channels the power of 1,000 Dark Sith lords through a wall of amplifiers in his bedroom 😂
Rooch just loving everytime Rob play a FoO song is iconic. It just goes to show he genuinly loves those sessions and the songs that Rob and Andrew and Rooch create together.
Just wanna comment here to say that I've been going through a lot in the last couple weeks (mental health-related), and watching this video made me smile for the first time in days. Keep up the great work and can't wait for the new album. Thanks Rob.
I love Rob and his approach to guitar. I enjoy watching him play, shows me anything’s is possible if you’re persistent and confident. Rob is on my top 10 rock/metal guitar players here on TH-cam. Always killer guitars, I love Robs signature models, would love to try one someday. I’ve never played an 7 or 8 string but really want to get one eventually. I’m thinking of getting and 8 string electric, Robs Schecters are absolutely gorgeous looking instruments for sure 🤘
A lot of bands are just using baritone or similar style 6 strings tuned to those "bass territory" tunings, as long as the scale length is 27" or longer you should be good with a 6 string. I mean, a lot of bands don't even play traditional solos so yeah, I reckon a 9-string is overkill for most use cases unless YOUR particular style of music usese the WHOLE range of the instrument. Also, learning to play an 8 or 9 string guitar is demanding on the hands due to the extra girth and dealing with extra strings too. I'd say a lot of new guitarists who are into super low tunings should look into getting a baritone 6-string instead!
Buster Odeholm of Humanity's Last Breath makes the most downtuned heavy music I've ever heard, and even he designed his signature guitar to be a 6-string baritone. Baritones are probably your best bet for that ultra low modern metal. That, and if they become more popular, more VST companies will start sampling baritones, and I'll get to play around with drop E0 virtual guitars!
Can't wait for your album, Rob!!! While I got anybody's attention, please check out the band "Chidori". If you like Rob, I'm almost sure you'll love this band. Bye🧡🧡🧡
6:00 When I first started really analyzing shapes of what I was playing, i came across Conquer All by Behemoth and learned this shape/progression and fell in love lol
9:20 up until drums kicked in I thought about Indians by Gojira😄 Really like the use of it in an upcoming album, "trying to keep it together but everything is just crumbling", hits hard
DUDE! ROB! How do you make me feel so much from short riffs? Other musicians need a full song to build up to a moment to get that much feels out of me.
That riff in Anchor reminds me a lot of the band Rooftops. If you have never heard their A Forest of Polarity album, do yourself a favour and give it a spin. It's wonderful. I wish they did more than one album.
It's interesting to hear your take on the heavy factor, specifically the second one regarding distortion. James Hetfield has gone on record saying their approach to heavy tones in Metallica is to put substantially *less* distortion on the guitars than you'd expect. Instead, they go hard on multi tracking the guitars instead to fill out the sound. Plus, you know, their very percussive guitar riff sound. Two sides of the same coin, both accomplishing the heavy goal
In regards to notes, learn your scales, then forget them. Don't get stuck trying to keep things in the same key, chromatic deviations are really important in heavy music.
Rob, here's an idea, have a Kahler added to your 9 string. They make them for 6 thru 10 string guitars, and even have models for Multi scale. I added one to my Schecter Banshee 8 and it is uber cool.
The true king of making shit heavy as fuck with a whammy is Charles from Berried Alive. I thought he did most stuff in post and then i watched him play. Mans a god!
IF theres no Bobby Scalliwag feature on first of october man (also Im really looking forward to the album if it hold up to the "this is experimental"-tag)
id love to see a vide of step by step how to get into metal/djent, like hey heres a decent 7 string, heres a decent amp based on budgets, heres a distorter, here are some good presets n chord combos
that Bobby Scalliwag fella sure is fly!
The king speaks, we listen
He has been summoned! MORE MEMES PLS
They say you can catch flies with honey, but you can catch more honeys by bein fly!
I wonder the influence 🤔
U know what they say…… Go on git!
KMAC visual in 30sec is crazy work
Kmac reference speedrun
@@robscallonand are we shouting out Berried Alive with that crazy patterned hoodie? I love it regardless of intent.
no "seck tunhs" were harmed in the making of this video
Wait, are we as fans Scalliwags or Scalliwaggers? Plenty of room on the scalliwagon, hop on!
why is it not Rapscallion and we are the Rapscallions?
Scalwengers Assemble!
i like but with the spelling scallowag lol
Scalloped wigglies
That unhinged seven string floyd riff is just crazy to me, hearing it in context genuinely made my jaw drop.
😈 🙏
You should hear Hail the Apocalypse by Avatar then.
Sounds halfway between a metal breakdown and a mental breakdown - perfect for the album
all 7 strings should have a floyd rose
What makes things unhinged
1:15 the doom music vibes are strong with this one
More like Meshuggah! ^^
My guy, @9:30 is OG DOOM E1M1 music! th-cam.com/video/BSsfjHCFosw/w-d-xo.html

Straight doom vibes
"Let's get a little lighter" as you transition to no hoodie is definitely going to be underrated. Kmac had me CACKLING though
Kmac mentioned RAAAAHHHH 🦅🦅
It's the only appropriate way to explain heavy guitar.

Came in expecting KMAC references. 10/10 did not disappoint
I don't know who this "Rob Scallon" fellow is, but I like the cut of this Bobby Scalliwag's jib!
I have no idea how this Bobby Scaliwag guy got access to my channel
Best timing ever for this video, tryna compose my 1st metal song rn
Awesome!!! Good luck man
Hell yeah mang.
Advice start simple. Works every time. If you start simple and add complexity later you wont burn out
My biggest piece of advice is to think like a drummer. Metal is am incredibly rhythmically driven genre.

2:30 oh my god those pinch harmonics scratched my brain in such a good way
2:29 🔥🔥🔥 I cannot wait for this album!!!
KMac and Rob collab needs to happen and it needs to be hilariously heavy. I want my unborn grandchildren to feel it type of heavy.
9:16 A good example of a riff that actively uses a moving bridge is Hail The Apocalypse by Avatar.
Shit slaps too, I love the chorus riff too, a lot of cool harmonics
THE KMAC SHOUTOUT
i love Rob (Rucia... The engineer) in back just headbangig to Rob playing at 1:19
"anchors are heavy.... maybe that was the joke" LOL that took a while

13:22 I love Rooch so much, this is such a hilarious moment lmao
The moment you brought out the Floyd with seven string i knew this album was gonna be something I’m gonna listen to so many times.
12:42 dude on the left's ecstasy is peaking
This is some cool high value promo/marketing. Good idea. I’m intrigued to hear the album.

the schecter hellraiser 6 strings are a quality decent priced guitar im sure the 7s and 8s are dope too
I love how Opeth sounds very heavy even they only play in E Standard or just Drop D.
not only but yeah

Was about to post this same thought. 😂
What a beast!
Sounds great, like Fear Factory, Chimaira and Machine Head had a baby hahaha
Great job Rob!
Thanks for making it easy for us to understand the lower tunings and the functionality. Keep Shredding!!!
I’m so ready for October 1st
the creativity in your writing is impressive!

Don’t know if you’ve heard of them, but Avatar uses whammy on their song Hail the Apocalypse. Amazing riff only playing open for most of it

I love you Rob! After been busy with working, and seen your video makes me so happy. Thanks Rob for the tutoria🤘🏻
Anyone can play guitar you just have to know two chords. Then play chords noone's ever heard before. Like E minor flat sharp Rob Scallon my man.
Bud sounds so beautiful!! At 8:32
That bit genuinely pleasantly surprised me
love to see that the guitar from the 00000 video back in the day is still in action
Absolutely love it.
Midwest Emo tips next please? 🥺🥹
I feel like you’ve gotten a LOT better at guitar all of a sudden
Okay, putting it 2 octaves higher and bringing it back to get some pick attack is really smart. I gotta try that sometime.

Probably have to be doom 4 at this point
Very excited for this album. Thank you for the breakdown.

Damn, more of this please. The goodness of the metal bleeds through here 🤟🤘
1:14 I've just noticed that this is just a extremely heavy version of the murder drones theme?
The trick to get the pick attack is sick!
Its coming up to album in a day season - cant wait! 😁
Harmonic minor and its modes for the win 🤘
Nice video! Love the 9 string!
Oh. This is great. I will definately buy this!
Thanks for the cool vid Bobby Scallywag, the Lyrical Machete
Inverted Powerchords are a great shortcut to a phatter sound. I love dropping them in for something extra!

The original Envy song with the nine string is my favorite even if the eight string version was good.
