I take away two things from this:
1: MAB is just as impressive as a human as he is a shredder.
2: I feel that Rob's talent is even still somehow underappreciated.
3. He likes the lasers and really wanted to get them working. :l
I recorded a couple of tracks for a friend at his studio, and can vouch for the fact that Michael is one of the nicest people You could ever hope to meet.
Warn, friendly and accommodating, he bends over backward to make you comfortable. Oh, and he can eat most guitarists, including me, alive.😂

My initial impression of Michael Angelo Batio was that he was a bit of a show-boater, and... well, that's not exactly wrong, but he's so strangely humble about it? Dude's a damn solid shredder who plays some truly bizarre guitars, but he speaks with so much passion and seems to genuinely love what he does. There's no arrogance to it. Really refreshing to see.
He gives me the “I absolutely love what I do, and I’m damn good at it too” vibe. Respect
The story about not wanting to get into "guitar duels" but doing it just for the fun of trying to play FOUR guitars was the perfect example of this!

He’s genuinely excited. It’s like he’s talking about someone else than himself in some ways. He just loves this stuff and he’s so into sharing what he’s doing. He wants everyone to have as much fun as himself.
That was my impression at 1st as well, but very cool dude who just loves what he does & try new things with it to keep that passion & interest going.
Anything involving MAB is going to be straight up outrageous. What a fun video!

That's pretty much every Rob video, though. He just...picks stuff up.
Michael is one of nicest people you will ever meet. I met him once when my band opened for NITRO in a club (1989 or 1990) and I did not like the band or their music very much because it was not my taste. I was also just a young guitar player in an all original metal band and he was in a national act that was on Mtv, it was intimidating. He walked over to me after we opened and told me it was great and that he really liked my style and that my playing and songwriting was good. Later after the show he gave me a t shirt, took me on the tour bus and talked about music with me for a little while. He also gave me some advice and told me not to let other people dictate my playing or songs and being different was a good thing. He was kind and nicer than you would imagine if all you saw was NITRO decked out in their clothes and wigs. Not pompous or ego driven at all. In the end I still did not really like their music but I became a fan of Michael Angelo Batio, the person first and the guitar player second. He is a genuine person. Getting to spend the day with him, going through his house and guitar collection is a real treat. You got to play his iconic guitars and that is extra special. Thank you for making this video.

A friend got me to start talking to band members by trying to pants me in front of my favorite band. At the time it was All Shall Perish. Fortunately he didn't get my pants of my ass but he got me to start talking to my inspirations. I'll love him forever for that

Rob, thank you for this video. I regretfully always ignored Michael growing up as I never saw past the image. This video truly shows how radiant he is about the guitar and life. He's so giddy here and smiles all the time. You've really introduced MAB to the modern era for some of us.
Had the pleasure of meeting MAB at one of his guitar clinics several years back. He was genuinely the nicest most down to earth guy. His music isn't for everyone, but any real guitarist has to admit how insane what he does, is.

I got the opportunity to meet Michael Angelo in the mid-90s. He is a cool, down to earth guy, who just happens to be one of the most amazing musicians I've ever seen. Mad props to M.A.B!
Michael Angelo deserves all that exposure. His instrumental albums are so worth listening too. Several years ago at a Musikmesse I had no idea about him and he was so genuinely nice, listened and cared. I hope you do more collabs.
I've been calling him a showoff to this day but right now, after seeing how down-to-earth and humble he is, I feel ashamed to have done so. He's earned himself another fan.

@@afipia7 and he’s very musically talented too. It just isn’t “show of shit” listen to No Boundaries, it’s a great guitar album and has lots of original classical pieces that aren’t show off at all.
I feel ashamed to say that this guy has been mostly a punchline with me and my circle our whole lives, because I now see how down-to-earth, humble, cool, funny, and personable he is. Sure, MAB is well-known, but he deserves to be much more so...
You should check out videos of his guitar speed classes. He's a really great teacher and so incredibly polite with everyone. He gives straightforward advice to even the most novice students and always finds something to praise in them.
I've had the chance to meet him twice when I was 14 and 22 (about), he really is nice to have around, very down to earth like you said, and he's a great performer, incredibly talented

You should go to a show. He tells stories and you leave feeling like he's one of your Buds. He's a great, humble guy. He's always been super nice to me and my daughters and played anything I asked for. Just an all around good dude.
My favorite part about MAB is how he just has the most fun out of pretty much any guitarist I know.

the way rob picks up playing just about anything and has such deep appreciation for the legends he interviews - so good.
What really got me was Michael Angelo Batio saying that he hadn't considered using the double necks with a clean sound, and complimenting Rod. Such humility from someone who by any estimate would be considered 'untouchable' as far as mastery of the instrument goes is amazing.
Even cooler then that, what he said implied other people had tried doing clean sound, but nobody had thought to do that and then had the skill to make it sound good.

Prior to that moment, I don't think Michael Angelo Batio even knew electric guitars could be played with a clean sound. There is only distortion. This is the way.
I've always loved MAB as a person and his playing style. This video confirms that tenfold. The ending with the lasers and his eagerness to get it all working really got me

I remember him to be the nicest guy, always down to earth, used to watch tons of his videos pre-2010. You'd have this stigma of metal guitarists/fans being jerks in those times(try throwing them a bone and ask "who's the best guitarist of all time" and watch the most toxic thread unfold before your eyes!) This dude never took himself too seriously, I wish him the best.

I saw this video title and thought "oh, MAB is a cool guy, would be fun watching", but honestly... This guy is impressive friendly. He's a living legend and there is not a bit arrogance at all. He's just having fun showing Rob all his stuff and even as Rob plays some stuff he looked impressed and appreciate it. Even if it was an hour long, I'm sure I would have fun watching it.
The part with lasers makes him even more likeable.
It's always a treat to see musicians who have really dedicated their lives to the craft. The way he listens to Rob, and the way he takes in the questions, and the new ideas, and just comes back with such brilliance and creativity... I mean, at that point it's not even about the musical style or the technique anymore, it's the music-making itself and anyone from any path of music can delight in it.

I feel like Rob is having the most fun of any TH-camr, period. It’s great to watch, always lifts my mood.
He’s also one of the most fun to watch. He’s a great interviewer because he doesn’t see it as a story or a subject. He’s just as excited (if not more). His best videos is when he’s interacting with others.
One of exceptionally few TH-camrs (or famous people in general) I’d actually like to meet.
Also his ability to pick up instruments and make something musical with them is amazing. He’s still like a little kid absorbing the world.
I like how he's never afraid to try a new instrument on camera and almost instantly makes it sound musical. Long time subs take it for grantes but it takes a lot courage.
Rob knows what he loves and has turned it into something great.
I haven't listened to Michael Angelo Batio in like fifteen years...if he's still doing this, I'm old enough to say he DEFINITELY wasn't kidding about having a good chiropractor.

Traveled two hours to a different town to see Michael do a guitar clinic immediately after school in 2011. Not only was it an impressive showing of skill and outrageous guitar, it was a great afterword when the group got to talk to him one on one and ask questions about his career post 80's. Like teaching Mark Tremonti and other high profile players. Incredible man and incredibly humble and nice.
For someone I thought was silly and goofy for his whole "two-guitar" thing, MAB is endearingly silly and goofy, just a normal dude who could indulge in the silliness of his passion. Total *Dudes Rock* energy.
I once saw MichaelAngelo play at a Dean guitar shop and he was telling the story about how he was playing his dual guitars at a gig with thousands but was bored enouhh that his brain just drifted off to thinking about getting a ton of postshow Wendy's mid solo

Besides all of his talent and skill, he's also just a really good, and all round decent guy.
His style definitely isn't for everyone, but you can hear the musical foundation he plays on. I'd bet he could play awesome blues. It'd be interesting to hear him with Mark Knopfler.

Michael is such a great dude. He really embraced the ridiculousness of the late 80s, but kept his feet on the ground as human being. I love listening to him, both talking and playing. Also, I'm still baffled how creative he gets with those double and quadruple neck monstrosities XD

I saw Michael live in Burton on Trent in the UK over 15 years ago, its was the time the 2 guitars of the quad guitars was returned to him. Really great gig and still have the signed album :)
This is definitely the guitar video with the most positive energy ever! So much fun, a joy to watch. And so many things I would never have imagined. Michael Angelo Batio turned out the nicest person and so innovative in the guitars, techniques, everything. Rob is definitely the right guy to do a video like this, they just click so well.
Gotta say, I'm surprised at how friendly MAB seems. Quite different from the mean-mugging he does for the camera when playing :P
I was wondering how Dines got him for the Shred Collab video, and this video answers that question.
I saw him perform at the Music Messe in Germany once. After his set I had a chat with him. So humble, friendly and down to earth. I didn't expect it honestly. He showed me his double guitar, and even suggested I held it for a picture. Told him I saw him at the hotel during breakfast. He went ''oh man! you should've come over and said hi!''

@@superblondeDotOrg Honestly, my apprehension was mostly due to the whole "stuck in the 80s" vibe he's got going on. I thought he'd be more bitter than he is, but this seems less "I peaked in the 80s and I can't get it back" and more "I found this whole thing in the 80s and it's been good enough for me this whole time", which is a much healthier mindset.
MAB is a really cool dude, I've liked him for a while and I'm glad more people are getting to see his humble personality and insane shred skills

I attended one of his clinics in Liverpool maybe ten years ago. Such a lovely fella and a phenomenal player.
Its amazing, some of those early shredders have reputations of being massive tools with genius complexes, then you have Michael Angelo who's just chill as fuck.
I've always kind of been lukewarm on Michael Angelo Batio, but this video has really changed my perception of him. He seems like a great guy.

I’ve never been a fan of MAB or anything that feels “gimmicky” to me, but credit where credits due, he made that whole image his signature and to this day he owns it. This video definitely shed a bit of light on how genuinely impressive his playing is, for what it is. I guess there’s a reason I’ve never seen anybody else do it!

This is so awesome! I remember first getting into playing guitar in the early 00's, and I remember seeing his Speed Kills/No Boundaries video being circled around Limewire back in the day. I was just being blown away by MAB's skill, I didn't know anyone could possibly play guitar like that! This video brings me back, and it's so awesome just seeing despite his insane skill, his successes he had in the music industry, Michael is still so grounded, and comes off as a very kind and genuine person that just loves shredding and talking about guitars!

I used to think this guy was cheesy... but he's so self aware of how ridiculous it all is and just fully embracing the chaos of it all. Doing the double telecaster because it's weird because everyone expects pointy from him is an absolute highlight. What a freaking genius.
The fact he is muting so tightly with his foot whilst also playing two necks simultaneously is INSANE. I would say "Why does one person need so much talent?" but it's obviously just to be the most ridiculously entertaining person.

i had a smile on my face the entire time i was watching this. Michael seems like such a chill, down to earth guy, despite how amazing of a guitarist he is. i really enjoy seeing people just have fun with their instruments, and that dude obviously knows how to have fun with his guitars.

I always knew MAB was incredibly talented…. This video however, shows us what genuinely likable and humble person he is. His bombastic and over-the-top performances and crazy guitars are just an extension of his genuine love for wha he does.
I played a show with him in Philly a few years ago and hung out a bit after. SUCH a genuinely nice guy & incredibly knowledgeable on history and general trivia. So enjoyed seeing this - looks like you had a blast!

OMG! No way to express how much I enjoyed this. I saw MAB at a Guitar Center in Lakeland Florida years ago. He changed the way I think about right hand technique and those little red Dunlop Jazz III picks on electric. He's a truly unique artist.
This is fantastic! It gives such an amazing view of someone coming in playing with these amazing guitars without any prior experience, and having a completely different vision of what to play with them.
