Rob showing Emily how to do the guitar and bass techniques, and her saying her teacher would hate them reminds me of the story of Harpo Marx- he apparently was entirely self-taught on harp, and as such managed to figure out entirely new ways of playing- to the point that, supposedly, later in life when he could afford harp lessons, his teachers didn't want to change his method of playing and instead incorporated a lot of HIS techniques into their repertoire.

THAT SOUND at 18:28-18:55. It's so Hans Zimmer, it instantly reminds me of his recent Dune soundtrack (which won an Oscar BTW). In an interviews, Zimmer talks about trying to create entirely new sounds which sound neither like real instrument nor like synths or anything else or and this is EXACTLY IT.
10:28 Is one of the greatest things I've ever seen on this channel! Rugrats theme randomly coming out after playing the same notes the song uses... incredible haha

I also appreciate your dedication to a gag like falling down while "pushing" the scene aside. You're amazing Rob. Keep it up. Love the channel.
I legitimately got goosebumps and tears welled up in my eyes when she started playing with pedals. That was absolutely breathtaking. Rob's reaction pretty much sums it up. Emily has a new fan for sure!
I'm not a musician by any means, but I love these musical instrument adventures! Both Rob and whoever his guest is are always so excited just playing different ways and chitchatting and learning about each others instruments and techniques. So good.

Wow, you can really hear that Microcosm working so well to add ambiance (on such a beautiful instrument). Gonna sub to Emily right now. Really great content lately, showing us all these unusual instruments, and the amazing people who play them.
Rob's thing about pinch harmonics is spot on. Those are definitely something that when you learn how to do them, your guitar playing knowledge levels up. I thought they were voodoo when I was learning guitar and then one day, squeal! And now I can pinch harmonic all day. Also, Emily is badass.
Rob, you bring so much joy. Emily's reactions of pure delight had me grinning the whole way through. I would love to see you two do a longer jam session/performance. ❤️
Ooooooooh a duet where you and Emily switch between the crunchy distortion-filled music at 18:00 and the beautiful, ethereal effects from several minutes earlier. Like a huge fight between an angel and a demon!
I love how Rob applies guitar techniques to the instruments he's learning about, and in doing so ends up teaching new things to the actual experts on those instruments (he also did it in the jaw harp video).
these processed sounds are incredibly reminiscent of the Mirror's Edge soundtrack for me. The Ambience, reverb & reverse delay, layers of extra synth sounds... They're so good.
when she first added in the pedals my immediate thought was "i bet Aquatic Ambience from Donkey Kong would sound amazing on this" - sure enough, she's done a cover on her channel and it's incredible!
I smiled so much! My favorite channels came together; it was exactly what I expected, and it was both fun and exploratory. I don't think I've seen Rob so relaxed as when he was listening to Emily play with the pedalboard active. It seemed very therapeutic... Like our sponsor toda- Anywho, great sounds, great people, we're eating good in the neighborharp. Much love to all involved.
Harps make magic. My Mother sold my Grandmother's pedal harp. I was 6 years old and was devastated as I'd just started learning piano and also loved tinkering on the harp. I'm now 64 years old and it still pisses me off.
Okay, I know I'm late to the Party but I need to add this. Because after a long break from Rob, I watched this and I felt encapsulates perfectly why he (and his team) is one the most inspiring guitar youtubers out there. He always has a genuine interest in not only the featured artist but in the presented instruments. His curiosity is always mixed with respect for the artist and their instrument. He ALWAYS adds something to the instrument, be it applying techniques from other instruments or when he freestyles. You can always sense that his talent is not used to show off but fueled by his interest to create sound. There is a segment in this video that perfectly sums up his relationship to sound. It starts at about 11:18 where you can see that his body and mind is captured by the wall of sound that hits him and at 11:46 where he almost can't control the joy of this experience. I know this sounds completely over the top, but I had to get this out. This whole channel is such a gift. Thank you very much.

And this one wouldn't make it because we all suspected where it was going from the start, and it did. Great place to go, but not exactly a surprise, and for Rob, not particularly weird.
Rob, I think one of the reason people love your video’s is that your such a child. You are so excited by anything new, it’s infectious, please never change that.
I love how rob, being introduced to a completely unknown instrument, blows everyone's mind trying unconventional techniques.
Distorted harp is something I never thought of before. What a unique sound. 😲 I love this series Rob. Keep it up.
The acoustic guitar + the distorted harp sounds just like the Hades soundtrack! Awesome!
OMG i was about to send the exact same comment and i thought "there's no way i'm the only one to have noticed this". The Hades OST vibes were instant at this moment. :D
Finally, the collab we've been waiting for, Emily is an amazing Harpist and musician, I love her pedal videos, glad to see both of you collab. 😁
9:03 I love the Rugrats theme Rob played there. lol
the collab i didn't know i needed, but is so obviously great in hindsight.
Big time! I was just scrolling through to see if anyone else made a similar connection before I commented.
This reminds me of music in 2012-2015. Just nostalgic and beautiful.
10:28 Is one of the greatest things I've ever seen on this channel! Rugrats theme randomly coming out after playing the same notes the song uses... incredible haha
Rob, this is by far one of my favorite series on TH-cam. I love seeing you try all of these different instruments and put your interpretation on playing them.
So good.
Looks like Rob is constantly holding back tears or… so just… in awe of what’s happening to him.
I like how rob just casually hops on the harp and starts shredding lmao
honestly really impressive
also the fact that he is literally teaching her brand new techniques that he kinda sorta just invented right then and there
I love these types of videos for this exact reason
rob always has so much to add to the conversation and he's never just sitting there watching
I feel like the techniques Rob taught her are going to lead to some even more incredible jams from Emily; some completely different styles and sounds.
I don't think I've ever wanted a video to be longer more than this one. We want more, Rob!
I found Emily's channel back when she ran the harp through the distortion pedal and I just thought it was the coolest thing ever. She's awesome
I love how her energy totally matches this shows humour, she's amazing :D
17:46 That "Hades" vibe sounds so nice!
I was grinning from ear to ear! This was SO much fun
Amazing what can happen when one thinks outside the box. Love it!!
Wow Emily is a absolute Angel.
Her passion, her confidence and everything.
Emily is a blast, I've been loving her channel for a while now.. Just do *NOT* *EVER* give her anything sharp... her unboxing videos frighten me!
You and me both😬
She proved that a harpist and drummer makes for a viable doom band.
Now I'm curious to watch it, it probably have some ZackGrooves and Saxologic vibes in her unboxing?
The harp really took me everywhere, from a cozy mediterranean coastal village to the depths of hell itself. Definitely subbing to Emily!
Ooooooooh a duet where you and Emily switch between the crunchy distortion-filled music at 18:00 and the beautiful, ethereal effects from several minutes earlier. Like a huge fight between an angel and a demon!
I'm onto you Scallon, now i see your goal, to make the heaviest, hardest, djentest orchestra ever, please do, that'll be awesome
They're so good.
thought the same thing
This is one of my favorites of this series. Both of yall seemed to be having so much fun. It was great how she apologizing to her fellow harpists.
when she first added in the pedals my immediate thought was "i bet Aquatic Ambience from Donkey Kong would sound amazing on this" - sure enough, she's done a cover on her channel and it's incredible!
love how u turned this angelic harp into a doomsday instrument of hell!
Holy shit, when she added the effects and played it literally brought me to tears
I smiled so much! My favorite channels came together; it was exactly what I expected, and it was both fun and exploratory.
I don't think I've seen Rob so relaxed as when he was listening to Emily play with the pedalboard active. It seemed very therapeutic... Like our sponsor toda-
Anywho, great sounds, great people, we're eating good in the neighborharp. Much love to all involved.
I saw the thumbnail and thought, “He canNOT do a harp episode without Emily.” Was not disappointed. 💖
Harps make magic. My Mother sold my Grandmother's pedal harp. I was 6 years old and was devastated as I'd just started learning piano and also loved tinkering on the harp. I'm now 64 years old and it still pisses me off.
Watching this after morning yoga, sinking into the relaxing happy energy. Thank you so much. This collaboration has set me up for the weekend.
I can't believe content like this is free. I adore how much you love music Rob. These episodes where you meetup with other musicians and learn their instrument and merge your music style with theirs are AWESOME.
Ah hell yeah! Emily’s fantastic and it makes my day that you did this together. Her pedal reviews/demos are stellar.
Traditional harp: so harmonious and chill
Cololmbian/Venezuelan harp: shredding like they are playing for an 80's glam rock band
@@Nicole-pt4bx Check out Edmar Castañeda and Juan Pablo Rodríguez. 😉
You showing her bass finger picking on harp was amazing.
Edit: her with the pedals thoughhhh. So sick. Unreal.
First video I've ever seen of you. Easy sub. Can't wait to watch more.
I love how no one has an ego and everyone is enjoying the learning and music
9:22 "I'm trying to find a way to djent on harp" is a beautifly unhinged sentence
The best thing about Rob is that he always makes everyone feel comfortable around him.
Emily is one of the best guitar pedal reviewers out there. Because she’s not playing guitar, theres none of the prejudices or preferences us guitarists have. Plus as you can tell from this video, she’s loads of fun too :)
18:38 a harp with distortion is the perfect Doom Metal instrument
It is
10:26 i love the fact that you can literally see the moment he goes "wait.. that's rugrats" 🤣
As someone who loves guitar gear and being amazed by Emily's vids, stumbling on this coop video blew my mind. Such a fun video to watch
12:30 gosh darnit Rob, stop spoiling FFX!
...But I 100% agree, that is GORGEOUS, wow. Man, I just freaking love music, and you 2 mesh together incredibly well. Hope that this was as fun to make as it was to watch, absolutely breathtaking way to make a harp sound even more beautiful!
AAAAAAHA HA HA HA HA HA HA. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!
@@Ranzha_ classic scene
I frickin love Rob Scallon videos. It's always, "Here's this unique instrument, here's this cool person who knows everything about them. Let's play some metal on it." lmao
"I'm trying to find a way to djent on harp." - Emily xD
@12:00 bro this sounds like Stranger Things ambience. Wow.
Her talking about wanting to djent on the harp had me absolutely rolling lmfao I love this community of TH-cam musicians just constantly pushing the envelope for their own enjoyment
i never expected rob to do a video with emily, but, damn, they have such a great energy. and emily friggen rocks.
This is the first time I've heard 2 harps playing simultaneously. Very beautiful music. I've been a keyboard player off and on for the last 52 years.
Loved hearing the Farp at the end of the video. Truly a musical masterpiece of the ages.
That bit crushing reverb sound she had going was amazing
It was that sequencer!
Oh my God. The first time I heard Emily through the pedalboard through these SUPER nice headphones, it almost involuntarily drew tears out of my face lol…. I think I was freaking out right alongside Rob for sure!!! Amazing, Emily!!!
She didn't know how to pluck mmm what musicschool was that for the harpteacher teach her, sorry for non creative peeps Rob rules yre realy cool, harpists have no muscle memory need colours mmm
*Emily HARPkins ! 😁👌🏼
Thank you Rob for taking notice of My message I am really glad to see it :) it is amazing to see both together having fun :).
