The commissions idea is not actually bad. In Primal Carnage: Extinction, people are comissioned to make custom models (changing features of the existing models) as if they were creating new dinosaurs. For example, a subset model for the Acrocanthosaurus is a Suchomimus. The only thing is that the hitbox will be funky, although that is to be expected. Hell, they can be commissioned to create a new dinosaur. If I recall, somebody created an actual new model for a dinosaur that came to be the Pachycephalosaurus. Another thing is that people can be commissioned to fabricate new maps. Happened in Primal Carnage with competitions about deciding which map would be the best or among the greatest. I think Carnivores can definitely benefit from this.
As unfortunate as it is that the dinosaurs aren’t proper models made for the game, I still want to support the devs and I’m still really excited to see how they play in game.
Hopefully the game reaches a point on wich they can retouch some stuff. Honestly the aesthetic that would fit the franchise is a mix of old retro paleoart with modern accurate

As a Ukrainian, I can confirm that it's difficult to even live because of the Russian invasion. But thanks to the world's support, we are holding on. The original games (Carnivores 1, 2 and Ice Age) were also developed by the Ukrainian team Action Forms and are, in my opinion, the best of the entire series. Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunt is fun but has a whole bunch of flaws. But the fact that developers continue to release content even in such conditions is impressive.
I can’t belive we finally get new dinosaurs!! I can’t understand how mad the people are because they are asset models, I think they adapt to the other models in the game. Meanwhile I have more content to the game I’m happy. Also what a lost oportunity to name the DLC “Argentina terror pack” or something like that

I don't really mind either, especially if this method allows them to easily implement more content going forward. Furthermore, style-wise the models look similar enough to the original ones. What store are the assets from?
Just when you thought the game is dead again, this pops out of nowhere. Edit: Okay, confession time. I didn't know they were Unity Store assets until after watching this video and I will be honest, I agree with Saurian. With the game at this state of development and the current Ukrainian situation, it seems too early for DLC, let alone quality DLC. I am currently conflicted on whether or not I should buy the DLC. On the one hand, I too want to support future content and who doesn't want new dinosaurs in their trophy room. But on the other hand, I'd rather purchase quality content and I have to be honest, two dinosaurs does not make DLC. If it were a free update, I wouldn't mind it, but this is paid DLC of just two animals. Whilst they are part of the Carnivores Community to some degree feel more like model edits and reskins of existing dinosaurs than new ones. I'd rather have them take their time and ensure quality rather than rush out to meet demand. Granted, I'm not a game dev nor a marketing person. Regardless, I find purchasing little things a bit cheap, and I don't just mean loot boxes and micro transactions. Maybe it's just me, but the one and done expansiveness of a full expansion pack feels more reasonable than a bunch of small purchases that could work just as well as an update. It's like if Ark put a price tag on every creature they added to the game. Again, I'm not a game dev or marketing person, so if there are good reasons for it, sound off. Personally, I'd rather wait for quality DLC than purchase a lack luster update that could have been free in the first place. I waited this long after all. Maybe Saurian's review and future updates may change my mind, but as of now, I think I'll hold off on nay DLC purchases.
Good to see another Saurian Target video. I instantly noticed a number of bugs upon purchasing the new dlc. Somewhat disappointing but it was tad bit expected. Hopefully D.D. will smooth over the new dinosaurs' AI whenever they get the chance. And at least you'll get to go over all the new gameplay enhancements they've added which have made the game a lot smoother and accessible. Looking forward to your next vid.
I get the devs’ situation, but when the community is literally making better models for them to use for free and they just won’t do it, it does feel pretty sad.

I think you missed the worst part of this, Saurian - that not only are the new dinosaurs just a bunch of unity store assets, but that they're unity store assets that are, effectively, just more top level predators like T-Rex instead of filling out the lower end of the roster with the things that really should be there.
I agree. The reboot series has been lacking in small agile huntables for so long, and dlc could have been a perfect chance to add them. I don't think I would have even minded the unity asset store models as much if the creatures themselves offered something new to the gameplay. But as it is, it doesn't feel like anything new gameplay wise is being offered. Like you said, its just more large predators that don't look as good as the current ones.
It's easy to be disappointed, but I'm not. I mean, they are the first new dinosaurs since 2013! I'm just excited for a little shake-up from the same 6 dinosaurs every time. I hope they fix the models for no extra cost, though. And I'm still hoping for a marine level, as they said in the fundraiser. Water mechanics with harpoons and submarine retrievers would be amazing! And instead of a fog map, it could be night! I can just imagine it now: You're swimming with your flashlight out, and you can barely see just a few feet in front of you and you see the gigantic silhouette of a mosasaur. It gives me the chills
Honestly I don't mind that the models are store bought as long as they get new models later on. Right now I see the dlc as a way for us to donate money to them while they're working during a fucking war. I mean the fact that we're getting anything at all right now is seriously incredible on the dev teams part.
Not a downer for me at all. I wanted DLC for YEARS! What I’m hoping for the most is that they continue releasing DLC. The most important thing for me is the hunt. If we heard different sounds and different behaviors that’s all I need. The best new content in all of carnivores history has to be the compy in my opinion. A herd of dinosaurs was the biggest change of gameplay this game has seen.

If the price is low enough I'll buy it. Wasn't really too excited for these two since they're so similar to the dinosaurs we already have. Would have much preferred Raptor, Allosaurus, and Spinosaurus to fill out the smaller carnivore roster that is currently nonexistent in the game.
I don’t know if I did something wrong, but I might need help. I bought this game on XBox last weekend, along with this DLC. I just unlocked the Delphaeus Hills Fog map, and the wiki for this game says unlocking a fog map is when you can first hunt the Tyrannosaurus. For some reason though, I can’t hunt the T-Rex and it doesn’t show up on the list of dinosaurs I can put on the map. I don’t know if the game glitched because of the DLC, but I might need some help.

I suspect that the dev team had a deadline they had to meet, but due to *coughRussia’sLessThanTastefulInvasioncough* they pretty much had little choice on the matter, and just used Unity Store models as a way of saying “alright it’s done leave us alone we have enough going on right now as it is”. Otherwise, I do agree that commissioning fan & community models is probably their BEST line of action. That being said however, from a legal standpoint if that would happen in such a smooth manner.
I found out about Carnivores through your collaboration with Dino Diego. Are you planning on doing any more collaborations? I think if you could get some of the bigger dinosaur TH-camrs to play could expand the fan base. If not, I understand. It’s hard to collaborate sometimes. I’m pretty much always down for collabs, but that usually depends on other creators wanting to make Carnivores-based videos, which doesn’t happen all that often haha
Well i mean, they don't have a modeler in their team and the money is lacking, so it's only understandable they are using stock models. Its already a miracle this dlc exists in the first place!
Personally I’m ok with the Dino models as long as at some point they do remodels. So these are good for holding us over intill we get some models that look better. And I’m hoping once DigitalDreams reads the comments of this video that’s what they go to these Dino models being Just hold overs till the actual carnivores looking models come out.
I personally don't mind the new DLC, but I do agree with what you have to say. It is disappointing that they decided to use Unity Store Asset models putting aside the current situation with Ukraine. Hopefully they'll at the very least update the models in the near future. I also really like your commissions idea. It could bring the Carnivores community to life in a completely different way. It's time we support them for what they've given to us.
The Dlc is pretty good my only complaint is that a carnotaurus needs 4 - 5 shots with a sniper rifle, while gigantosaurus takes 3 shots to kill with the sniper rifle. Critical shots don't register which increases difficulty of the two carnivores. Besides those two issues with could be adjusted it's a decent DLC.
My guy, as the tyrannosaurus the carnotaurus and giga have to be shot in the eye to get one critican shot, I don’t know if is in the eye specifically but when I shot them in the head they get down
I wish that a game like Call of The Wild but dinosaurs would be a thing. I play CoTW almost daily and everytime playing me or a friend will say "I wish there was dinosaurs in a game like this". Doesn't even have to be Carnivores just something with the depth and systems CoTW has and you'd print money from hunters and people who like dinosaurs.
Honestly super disappointed with this DLC. Not only are these designs Unity store assets, which is already pretty bad, but they're just not cool or interesting designs. But even more importantly, I'm not sure what exactly they'd add to the game. What are Carnotaurus and Giganotosaurus gonna add that T.rex and Cerato dont already have? It could maybe be argued that Carno is a slimmer and potentially faster target but it really should have been a raptor first before anything else. It feels like these dinosaurs were chosen for how popular they are and nothing else. But if we are gonna have to get dinosaurs just for the sake of popularity, they should at the bare minimum be original designs and models. That beings said I understand and sympathise with the situation of the developers, and I will be buying this DLC, if for nothing else than to support them and the franchise as a whole. Here's hoping they get some TLC in the future

I feel so conflicted! The fact that Carnivores is still getting new content is AWESOME and I'm greatly relieved to hear the team is OK, it's wonderful news all around, but unmodified store-bought dinosaurs feel like such a sad new low... I think a better move might've been to make blog / social media posts advertising this DLC and teasing its two dinosaurs rather than actually releasing them. They could've used the extra time to reconnect to the community, build hype, and modify these assets into something unique. We've already been waiting a while, what harm would a little more time have been, especially with communication? Then again, I have no idea what their situation is- maybe they just needed more money fast? I don't know. Whatever happens I hope things work out in the end. More transparency and interaction with the fandom would definitely benefit them IMO. Your commission idea is pretty neat, too- I'm sure there's no shortage of people in the community who'd like to contribute!
Same, it’s such a strange and unfortunate situation. We’ve had modelers offer to make models for free for them, not to mention there are a plethora of things the game needed before it ever saw its first DLC, in addition to the fact that the community has been more than willing to donate to help out financially without the store-bought assets… just a strange situation all around.

This game shouldnt have dlc right now, it needs at least a decent roster for the main game, more maps and most bugs patched before devs start thinking of dlc

It's a shame that this first DLC costs 4 euros on the ps4 version when people had to wait decades for new content and maybe even bought the same game for the third time. I haven't bought ANY version of this game and i am sure that there won't nothing change...
I honestly just wish the update didn't happen. Like, they have WAY bigger issues right now than a dinosaur game like. Especially Carnivores, we fans have been taking care of things for a good little while.
I'm very happy with the update, the models look great and really fit the game in my opinion. They need to work on weapons next, whether it's new ones or working on the old ones. I'd love to see weapon customisation, like adding different optics and other attachments.
Hmm. Hmm. Lots of different thoughts here. First up - I think all the people who care about these dinos being store-bought could fit in a very small room. No one will care, because ordinary gamers don't bother checking what dinosaurs are available on the asset store. I do not think there will be any negative backlash on that point, and I think this is something we need to take into consideration in responding to this news. I also can't help but disagree on their appearance. Or, to be precise - yes, I do agree, these will stand out among other Carnivores dinos. They are not developed to stylistically fit the game. Scorching Kami appears to be aiming for relatively modern visualisation, which means her work doesn't quite have the Carnivores 90s dinos vibe. This is disappointing, particularly since it could be fixed with relatively small modifications to the models and textures. But I definitely do not agree that these are particularly boring or low-quality models. I mean, come on - compared to the existing Carnivores models? These actually have higher poly counts, higher quality textures, and their animations are easily equal in quality. They are stylistically different, but they are good models. I also don't agree with the idea that using store-bought assets instead of making new ones is a cop out. It's not. The costs and time investments are radically different. Commissioning dinos is nowhere near comparable in costs to buying them. Each of these dinos (and I know, because I've bought pretty much all the dinos put out by Scorching Kami) consists of an excellent, detailed low-poly mesh, several texture variants, and a full set of animations. A really, really full set of animations. We are talking about around a month of modelling and texturing work, plus a couple of months of rigging and animation, You buy this for around $30. I don't care how dedicated Carnivores fans are - there is no chance in hell that you will find someone willing to do work like this on commission for less than $2-3 thousand. It's a lot of work, and quality is expensive. The reason Scorching Kami and others like her are able to sell these assets so cheaply, is because they sell them to multiple buyers on a non-exclusive basis. When you commission a dino for a specific game, the artist is developing to your specifications, making the model relatively unsellable (even if you permit them to sell it to others), which means you must pay more. Now, the reason why the devs couldn't pay for a commissioned dino is obvious - it seemed clear from the very start that the devs don't have much in the way of a budget for this game. After all, none of the graphics in the game were upgraded - and goodness, you can actually do more with a dinosaur model in 2022 than you could back in 2013. Dinosaur Hunt is, graphically, a comparatively poorer game than Reborn was, because it's the exact same game, but a decade later. Considering this, I really don't feel upset about the devs using store-bought dinos. I'm fairly happy to see them do any DLC at all, given the fact that this game seems to have everything stacked against it - no budget, no marketing, no special new features to get people excited, not to mention the war. It goes without saying - buying a dino from the store isn't merely a case of plonking it into the game. The devs would have had a fair amount of work involved to set these up to work with their AI and all that. All that being said, the thing that really disappoints me the most, is the dinos themselves. Ok, yeah, the South American theropods represented by the giganotosaurus and the carnotaurus were a different family of theropods to the tyrannosaurids. Ok, yeah, if you said to a palaeontologist that they basically look the same as a tyrannosaurus, the palaeontologist would explode in outrage. But to an ordinary person - uh, yeah, they are basically the same. Sure, the carnotaurus has horns and really funny tiny arms. Barely noticeable. The giganotosaurus? Virtually a t-rex to most people, unless the devs bothered to include a drastically different AI to simulate the believed pack-hunt tactics of these dinos - but we know for certain they haven't done this, and the gigas will be as solitary as all the other dinos. So, why bother with such ordinary theropods? It's really just more of the same. If you're going to buy dinos, Scorching Kami has put out an excellent suchomimus and edmontosaurus (though these are not on the Unity Asset Store). Pxltiger has published a fantastic spinosaurus and sarcosuchus. Both of these artists have published a number of sauropods, and a few other, smaller dinos (and yeah, other boring run-of-the-mill theropods too, not to mention flying and aquatic reptiles). If this is an attempt to cash in on Jurassic World: Dominion, it seems really unlikely to succeed. At the end of the day, I really, really wish the devs well, and I hope this game will succeed against all odds. The devs have already blown my expectations out of the water, because initially, I thought this game would likely barely even get to release, given how unlikely it is to generate hype and sales. I'm really loving the fact that there is any DLC at all, and wishing them well with it. Their chances of further success remain unfortunately very poor, and if the only way they can boost these chances is by publishing DLC with store-bought dinos - more power to them. I just wish they had chosen a more interesting pair of dinos, and had at least modified their textures to better fit the game's visual style.
An afterthought: I took a moment to compare more directly the Carnivores ceratosaurus and t-rex with the store-bought giganotosaurus and carnotaurus, to figure out in what ways are they most likely to visually stand out. The answer: it's all about the teeth. The textures are far less colourful too (at least compared to the ceratosaurus), but that's not a big deal. However, the original dinos always have their teeth out - even when their mouths are closed, the teeth are out there. The giga and carnotaurus don't have this, which means that ironically, the "cretaceous terror pack" dinos are simply less terrifying to look at than the original dinos.
They NEED to add more dlc,free updates and mod support when they are done with the game so it lives like the older games They can also just remodel the Carno and Giga when they have the resources to anyway
ok... i need to speak my mind, and i'll be blunt and brutally honest. the store-bought assets are horrible. Giga appears to be a tad smaller than the Rex at worst and around the same size at best... it's technically a tad *larger* (and bulkier. it looks a bit too skinny). and the spikes don't help. it's supposed to ge a bony ridge, running from the base of the head to almost the tip of the tail; not individual spikes. the greens aren't contrasted enough. the red ridges are nice, but the greens can be improved. if they change it's appearance, i hope they go for Feilong's redesign (except with a bony ridge instead of spikes). the Carno... oh boy, the Carno. what happened to its head!? all of it! aren't the eyes supposed to be under the horns? why is its mouth like that? the edge is pointing far too upwards. and why are its arms always backwards? they more or less shouldn't be when it's standing still or walking. the colour's ok, but it stands for improvement. i didn't want to bash on the dinosaurs, but i can't just keep it to myself. i agree, i'd rather wait for the DLC.

You didn’t even notice the saddest part, we are just getting the same category of dinosaurs… Now we have 2 end game massive predators, and 2 medium late game carnivores. Smh we have no early game small carnivores, just add a velociraptor and pachy for gods sake! we have no small roster dinosaurs and I hate it! It’s all just overhyped large dinosaurs. I bought carnivores dino hunter reborn and got carnivores dino hunt playtest in my library. Reborn opens just fine but dino hunt playtest only shows a black screen. Anybody have any idea why?

Hey Saurian I don’t know if you still make or work on mods but I think a cool idea for a dinosaur would be something like the night stalker from primal it ambushes it’s prey with its sharp claws and can only be seen or killed with fire maybe a cool bonus dinosaur

I don't really mind either, especially if this method allows them to easily implement more content going forward. Furthermore, style-wise the models look similar enough to the original ones. What store are the assets from?

Edit: Okay, confession time. I didn't know they were Unity Store assets until after watching this video and I will be honest, I agree with Saurian. With the game at this state of development and the current Ukrainian situation, it seems too early for DLC, let alone quality DLC. I am currently conflicted on whether or not I should buy the DLC. On the one hand, I too want to support future content and who doesn't want new dinosaurs in their trophy room. But on the other hand, I'd rather purchase quality content and I have to be honest, two dinosaurs does not make DLC. If it were a free update, I wouldn't mind it, but this is paid DLC of just two animals. Whilst they are part of the Carnivores Community to some degree feel more like model edits and reskins of existing dinosaurs than new ones. I'd rather have them take their time and ensure quality rather than rush out to meet demand. Granted, I'm not a game dev nor a marketing person. Regardless, I find purchasing little things a bit cheap, and I don't just mean loot boxes and micro transactions. Maybe it's just me, but the one and done expansiveness of a full expansion pack feels more reasonable than a bunch of small purchases that could work just as well as an update. It's like if Ark put a price tag on every creature they added to the game. Again, I'm not a game dev or marketing person, so if there are good reasons for it, sound off. Personally, I'd rather wait for quality DLC than purchase a lack luster update that could have been free in the first place. I waited this long after all. Maybe Saurian's review and future updates may change my mind, but as of now, I think I'll hold off on nay DLC purchases.

Good to see another Saurian Target video. I instantly noticed a number of bugs upon purchasing the new dlc. Somewhat disappointing but it was tad bit expected. Hopefully D.D. will smooth over the new dinosaurs' AI whenever they get the chance. And at least you'll get to go over all the new gameplay enhancements they've added which have made the game a lot smoother and accessible. Looking forward to your next vid.

I get the devs’ situation, but when the community is literally making better models for them to use for free and they just won’t do it, it does feel pretty sad.
One thing ive noticed is that the carnotours are for some reason much larger and stronger then the gigas in game. Its like their stats were swapped.

I think you missed the worst part of this, Saurian - that not only are the new dinosaurs just a bunch of unity store assets, but that they're unity store assets that are, effectively, just more top level predators like T-Rex instead of filling out the lower end of the roster with the things that really should be there.
I agree. The reboot series has been lacking in small agile huntables for so long, and dlc could have been a perfect chance to add them. I don't think I would have even minded the unity asset store models as much if the creatures themselves offered something new to the gameplay. But as it is, it doesn't feel like anything new gameplay wise is being offered.
Like you said, its just more large predators that don't look as good as the current ones.
It's easy to be disappointed, but I'm not. I mean, they are the first new dinosaurs since 2013! I'm just excited for a little shake-up from the same 6 dinosaurs every time. I hope they fix the models for no extra cost, though. And I'm still hoping for a marine level, as they said in the fundraiser. Water mechanics with harpoons and submarine retrievers would be amazing! And instead of a fog map, it could be night! I can just imagine it now: You're swimming with your flashlight out, and you can barely see just a few feet in front of you and you see the gigantic silhouette of a mosasaur. It gives me the chills
Honestly I don't mind that the models are store bought as long as they get new models later on. Right now I see the dlc as a way for us to donate money to them while they're working during a fucking war. I mean the fact that we're getting anything at all right now is seriously incredible on the dev teams part.

The best new content in all of carnivores history has to be the compy in my opinion. A herd of dinosaurs was the biggest change of gameplay this game has seen.

If the price is low enough I'll buy it. Wasn't really too excited for these two since they're so similar to the dinosaurs we already have. Would have much preferred Raptor, Allosaurus, and Spinosaurus to fill out the smaller carnivore roster that is currently nonexistent in the game.

I don’t know if I did something wrong, but I might need help. I bought this game on XBox last weekend, along with this DLC. I just unlocked the Delphaeus Hills Fog map, and the wiki for this game says unlocking a fog map is when you can first hunt the Tyrannosaurus. For some reason though, I can’t hunt the T-Rex and it doesn’t show up on the list of dinosaurs I can put on the map. I don’t know if the game glitched because of the DLC, but I might need some help.
I'm excited to get any content. Carnivores is my favorite game and my fondest memories as kid hunting. I want to help make this game the best it could be. How ever I can. Thanks for the amazing content and can't wait to see your new video.

I suspect that the dev team had a deadline they had to meet, but due to *coughRussia’sLessThanTastefulInvasioncough* they pretty much had little choice on the matter, and just used Unity Store models as a way of saying “alright it’s done leave us alone we have enough going on right now as it is”.
Otherwise, I do agree that commissioning fan & community models is probably their BEST line of action. That being said however, from a legal standpoint if that would happen in such a smooth manner.

I found out about Carnivores through your collaboration with Dino Diego. Are you planning on doing any more collaborations? I think if you could get some of the bigger dinosaur TH-camrs to play could expand the fan base. If not, I understand. It’s hard to collaborate sometimes. (Sorry if this comes off as angry, or something else. I love your channel.)
I’m pretty much always down for collabs, but that usually depends on other creators wanting to make Carnivores-based videos, which doesn’t happen all that often haha
8 and a half years and we FINALLY get new dinosaurs... but they’re unity assets...
Well i mean, they don't have a modeler in their team and the money is lacking, so it's only understandable they are using stock models. Its already a miracle this dlc exists in the first place!
But our modelers in the community have already volunteered to do dinosaur models that match the art style for free…
Personally I’m ok with the Dino models as long as at some point they do remodels.
So these are good for holding us over intill we get some models that look better.
And I’m hoping once DigitalDreams reads the comments of this video that’s what they go to these Dino models being

I personally don't mind the new DLC, but I do agree with what you have to say. It is disappointing that they decided to use Unity Store Asset models putting aside the current situation with Ukraine. Hopefully they'll at the very least update the models in the near future.
I also really like your commissions idea. It could bring the Carnivores community to life in a completely different way. It's time we support them for what they've given to us.
The Dlc is pretty good my only complaint is that a carnotaurus needs 4 - 5 shots with a sniper rifle, while gigantosaurus takes 3 shots to kill with the sniper rifle. Critical shots don't register which increases difficulty of the two carnivores. Besides those two issues with could be adjusted it's a decent DLC.
My guy, as the tyrannosaurus the carnotaurus and giga have to be shot in the eye to get one critican shot, I don’t know if is in the eye specifically but when I shot them in the head they get down

I wish that a game like Call of The Wild but dinosaurs would be a thing. I play CoTW almost daily and everytime playing me or a friend will say "I wish there was dinosaurs in a game like this". Doesn't even have to be Carnivores just something with the depth and systems CoTW has and you'd print money from hunters and people who like dinosaurs.

Honestly super disappointed with this DLC. Not only are these designs Unity store assets, which is already pretty bad, but they're just not cool or interesting designs.
But even more importantly, I'm not sure what exactly they'd add to the game. What are Carnotaurus and Giganotosaurus gonna add that T.rex and Cerato dont already have? It could maybe be argued that Carno is a slimmer and potentially faster target but it really should have been a raptor first before anything else. It feels like these dinosaurs were chosen for how popular they are and nothing else.
But if we are gonna have to get dinosaurs just for the sake of popularity, they should at the bare minimum be original designs and models. That beings said I understand and sympathise with the situation of the developers, and I will be buying this DLC, if for nothing else than to support them and the franchise as a whole. Here's hoping they get some TLC in the future
I think if there wasn’t any outside conflict, the studio would’ve made their own models on their own time.

I like the art direction that specifically comes from the game devs. It varies in their own styles and it's great to see what comes out of it.

I feel so conflicted! The fact that Carnivores is still getting new content is AWESOME and I'm greatly relieved to hear the team is OK, it's wonderful news all around, but unmodified store-bought dinosaurs feel like such a sad new low... I think a better move might've been to make blog / social media posts advertising this DLC and teasing its two dinosaurs rather than actually releasing them. They could've used the extra time to reconnect to the community, build hype, and modify these assets into something unique. We've already been waiting a while, what harm would a little more time have been, especially with communication? Then again, I have no idea what their situation is- maybe they just needed more money fast? I don't know.
Whatever happens I hope things work out in the end. More transparency and interaction with the fandom would definitely benefit them IMO. Your commission idea is pretty neat, too- I'm sure there's no shortage of people in the community who'd like to contribute!
Same, it’s such a strange and unfortunate situation. We’ve had modelers offer to make models for free for them, not to mention there are a plethora of things the game needed before it ever saw its first DLC, in addition to the fact that the community has been more than willing to donate to help out financially without the store-bought assets… just a strange situation all around.
I'll buy this to support the devs but as I've said on the server: this needs to be the exception and not the norm.

I’m not exactly mad at the store assets, because it’s probably the best they can do for right now. They’ll probably change the models when the war is over.
The community has literally offered to make models for the game for free, and has done so… I get their situation, but they can do better, and it seems weird that they won’t.
It's a shame that this first DLC costs 4 euros on the ps4 version when people had to wait decades for new content and maybe even bought the same game for the third time.

I honestly just wish the update didn't happen. Like, they have WAY bigger issues right now than a dinosaur game like. Especially Carnivores, we fans have been taking care of things for a good little while.
I'm very happy with the update, the models look great and really fit the game in my opinion. They need to work on weapons next, whether it's new ones or working on the old ones. I'd love to see weapon customisation, like adding different optics and other attachments.
Bit depressing how they didn't rework the models to fit the style better. But I will not get the DLC until I see how the creatures work on game
Hmm. Hmm. Lots of different thoughts here.
First up - I think all the people who care about these dinos being store-bought could fit in a very small room. No one will care, because ordinary gamers don't bother checking what dinosaurs are available on the asset store. I do not think there will be any negative backlash on that point, and I think this is something we need to take into consideration in responding to this news. I also can't help but disagree on their appearance. Or, to be precise - yes, I do agree, these will stand out among other Carnivores dinos. They are not developed to stylistically fit the game. Scorching Kami appears to be aiming for relatively modern visualisation, which means her work doesn't quite have the Carnivores 90s dinos vibe. This is disappointing, particularly since it could be fixed with relatively small modifications to the models and textures. But I definitely do not agree that these are particularly boring or low-quality models. I mean, come on - compared to the existing Carnivores models? These actually have higher poly counts, higher quality textures, and their animations are easily equal in quality. They are stylistically different, but they are good models.
I also don't agree with the idea that using store-bought assets instead of making new ones is a cop out. It's not. The costs and time investments are radically different. Commissioning dinos is nowhere near comparable in costs to buying them. Each of these dinos (and I know, because I've bought pretty much all the dinos put out by Scorching Kami) consists of an excellent, detailed low-poly mesh, several texture variants, and a full set of animations. A really, really full set of animations. We are talking about around a month of modelling and texturing work, plus a couple of months of rigging and animation, You buy this for around $30. I don't care how dedicated Carnivores fans are - there is no chance in hell that you will find someone willing to do work like this on commission for less than $2-3 thousand. It's a lot of work, and quality is expensive. The reason Scorching Kami and others like her are able to sell these assets so cheaply, is because they sell them to multiple buyers on a non-exclusive basis. When you commission a dino for a specific game, the artist is developing to your specifications, making the model relatively unsellable (even if you permit them to sell it to others), which means you must pay more. Now, the reason why the devs couldn't pay for a commissioned dino is obvious - it seemed clear from the very start that the devs don't have much in the way of a budget for this game. After all, none of the graphics in the game were upgraded - and goodness, you can actually do more with a dinosaur model in 2022 than you could back in 2013. Dinosaur Hunt is, graphically, a comparatively poorer game than Reborn was, because it's the exact same game, but a decade later. Considering this, I really don't feel upset about the devs using store-bought dinos. I'm fairly happy to see them do any DLC at all, given the fact that this game seems to have everything stacked against it - no budget, no marketing, no special new features to get people excited, not to mention the war. It goes without saying - buying a dino from the store isn't merely a case of plonking it into the game. The devs would have had a fair amount of work involved to set these up to work with their AI and all that.
All that being said, the thing that really disappoints me the most, is the dinos themselves. Ok, yeah, the South American theropods represented by the giganotosaurus and the carnotaurus were a different family of theropods to the tyrannosaurids. Ok, yeah, if you said to a palaeontologist that they basically look the same as a tyrannosaurus, the palaeontologist would explode in outrage. But to an ordinary person - uh, yeah, they are basically the same. Sure, the carnotaurus has horns and really funny tiny arms. Barely noticeable. The giganotosaurus? Virtually a t-rex to most people, unless the devs bothered to include a drastically different AI to simulate the believed pack-hunt tactics of these dinos - but we know for certain they haven't done this, and the gigas will be as solitary as all the other dinos. So, why bother with such ordinary theropods? It's really just more of the same. If you're going to buy dinos, Scorching Kami has put out an excellent suchomimus and edmontosaurus (though these are not on the Unity Asset Store). Pxltiger has published a fantastic spinosaurus and sarcosuchus. Both of these artists have published a number of sauropods, and a few other, smaller dinos (and yeah, other boring run-of-the-mill theropods too, not to mention flying and aquatic reptiles). If this is an attempt to cash in on Jurassic World: Dominion, it seems really unlikely to succeed.
At the end of the day, I really, really wish the devs well, and I hope this game will succeed against all odds. The devs have already blown my expectations out of the water, because initially, I thought this game would likely barely even get to release, given how unlikely it is to generate hype and sales. I'm really loving the fact that there is any DLC at all, and wishing them well with it. Their chances of further success remain unfortunately very poor, and if the only way they can boost these chances is by publishing DLC with store-bought dinos - more power to them. I just wish they had chosen a more interesting pair of dinos, and had at least modified their textures to better fit the game's visual style.
An afterthought: I took a moment to compare more directly the Carnivores ceratosaurus and t-rex with the store-bought giganotosaurus and carnotaurus, to figure out in what ways are they most likely to visually stand out. The answer: it's all about the teeth. The textures are far less colourful too (at least compared to the ceratosaurus), but that's not a big deal. However, the original dinos always have their teeth out - even when their mouths are closed, the teeth are out there. The giga and carnotaurus don't have this, which means that ironically, the "cretaceous terror pack" dinos are simply less terrifying to look at than the original dinos.
They NEED to add more dlc,free updates and mod support when they are done with the game so it lives like the older games
They can also just remodel the Carno and Giga when they have the resources to anyway

the store-bought assets are horrible.
Giga appears to be a tad smaller than the Rex at worst and around the same size at best... it's technically a tad *larger* (and bulkier. it looks a bit too skinny).
and the spikes don't help. it's supposed to ge a bony ridge, running from the base of the head to almost the tip of the tail; not individual spikes.
the greens aren't contrasted enough. the red ridges are nice, but the greens can be improved.
if they change it's appearance, i hope they go for Feilong's redesign (except with a bony ridge instead of spikes).
the Carno... oh boy, the Carno. what happened to its head!? all of it! aren't the eyes supposed to be under the horns? why is its mouth like that? the edge is pointing far too upwards.
and why are its arms always backwards? they more or less shouldn't be when it's standing still or walking.
the colour's ok, but it stands for improvement.

You didn’t even notice the saddest part, we are just getting the same category of dinosaurs… Now we have 2 end game massive predators, and 2 medium late game carnivores. Smh we have no early game small carnivores, just add a velociraptor and pachy for gods sake! we have no small roster dinosaurs and I hate it! It’s all just overhyped large dinosaurs. It’s like a mobile game targeted towards small children at this point 🤦♂️

I bought carnivores dino hunter reborn and got carnivores dino hunt playtest in my library. Reborn opens just fine but dino hunt playtest only shows a black screen. Anybody have any idea why?

Hey Saurian I don’t know if you still make or work on mods but I think a cool idea for a dinosaur would be something like the night stalker from primal it ambushes it’s prey with its sharp claws and can only be seen or killed with fire maybe a cool bonus dinosaur
I hope they replace the DLC models with original ones once the situation improves in Ukraine and the devs are able to do more work on the game.
