In later rounds Gene uses a turtle defense, much like Archie Moore. He is the aggressor for the most part. I doubt Fullmer or Carmen Basilio could've beat prime age Ray Robinson.

Robbie got robbed in this one, but Fullmer was a hell of a fighter. Crude and dirty, he could be, but also crafty and courageous. At this age (39), Robinson showed real class in outboxing him over 15 tough rounds. . . until bout #4, when Gene tormented him in an extra-small ring.

Lots of rabbit punching like the first fight. Fullmer was warned about it in the 2nd fight and got knocked out. Interesting that they wore 6 oz gloves in the second fight. 8oz in the first and this one. Fullmer has to know rabbit punches are illegal so he’s a dirty fighter.

Fulmer outboxing Robinson with superior defensive skills.... No wonder he had the best record against The sugar man... I believe he had the edge and only lost once in four bouts... One tough Mormon.... The other tough So B was Carmen Basilio who went 1 and 1 against Robinson Being One of the gamest Opponents.
And whom I met personally in Vegas in the early 90s. Nice man, both humble Persons in real life But tough as nails in the ring. Styles make fights, and this one reminds me of Tunney versus Dempsey With a superior thought out snappunch that pulls back into a defensive protection. Tunney was the ex Marine who was an intellect and not the most popular with the crowds... Like Fulmer, he didn't care. I give them credit. They were smart and outsmarted their opponents brawn .Yet with considerable power. They knew how to fight.... Making the opponent fight Their way.

Fullmer makes for a boring ass fight. No skills whatsoever. Considering the era and times... I often feel that SRR would lose deliberately... cause SRR would slaughter them in rematches.

I think SRR, even over the hill, won clearly...
