Sugar Ray had problems with Fullmer. Although he was older and past his best he was still competitive. Gene Fullmer was his conquerer. Fullmer was a good 🏆 Champ. Hall of Famer.... R.I.P Gene

Past his prime!!! Robinson was fighting on memory. He was ancient. In his prime Fullmer while a tough, and dirty fighter, would have been knocked out or badly beaten by a prime Robinson, 1942 to 1952. Robinson was fighting because he was broke.
Jack Newfield, RIP, know knew nothing about boxing but he was in. NYC the center of the universe. He always commented that Ali was a mirror of Robinson. That’s ridiculous. Robinson was a complete fighter. Boxer and puncher. He could knock the opponent out with either hand. He was a tremendous body puncher. Ali was not a puncher and if you had a dollar for every body punch Ali threw you would be broke. Robinson had excellent defensive. Ali ran around backing away from punches until he couldn’t then stopped punches with his chin. His chin was best defense. That’s why he suffered from brain damage even in his last few fights that way obvious.
No disrespect to Ali. He was a great fighter emphasizing FIGHTER, he was not a great boxer or great puncher but a great fighter.
Jack Newfield did not know shit.

Gene fullmer is a name I've never heard and he must have been a very good fighter this just shows the competitive level of the division at that time it's incredible

Not a word said about hitting behind the head!

Good fight except for behind the head punches and excessive holding

Fullmer used his head as a third fist….and used his elbows and hitting behind the head….dirty fighter, but super tough….

Robinson won the 3 rd fight and the 1 st looked fixed Robinson barely thru any jabs.

Robinson was way past his prime in this fight

I disagree with the commentator, Fullmer was a good defensive fighter but in his own specific way. Fullmer was either just out of reach of Sugar’s superior jab, or too far inside for Sugar Ray to land a big punch. Very difficult to execute this against perhaps the best fighter of all time and certainly the most experienced.

The fight was still close and competitive. I don't understand why the media and experts are portraying the 4th fight as Fullmer beating Robinson one sidedly.

Washed up SRR surprisingly had longetivity, too bad he threw out too many money out of the window.

@@TheNeorch Agree. His longevity surprised me as well. If other boxers has his busy schedule and tough competition, they wouldn't last longer than 13 years in the sport. Fighters like Mayweather and Pacquiao has a long prime because they are too careful in taking of not taking too many tough bouts consistently. (They learned from other legends' mistakes) but if you look at Robinson's resume, even during his comeback, he's taking too many tough bouts in very short period of time.

@@raulratonmacias1377 same for Muhammad Ali when he came back to fight Joe Frazier,he just warmed up twice and that's it.

Gene Fullmer won this fight outright. I just can't see any way of how Sugar Ray Robinson won this fight this time. Robinson looked washed up at the end. I think after round 3 it was all Fullmer's!

Contrary to your comment, Robinson did NOT win this decision; Fullmer was the winner.

The fight was still close and competitive...not a one sided beating like the media and experts portrays it to be.

Gene Fullmer clearly won this fight. Sugar Ray Robinson looked very washed up in my view.
