    For Fullmer to come back after being knocked out so powerfully in their second fight is immense. Ray wasn't in his prime, but Fullmer fought fabulously, a real fighter.

    Thanks for posting this. Fulmer had the weirdest style I've ever seen. Besides leading with his head, I wonder if that raking hammerfist "jab" helped open cuts.
    If you guys know of any with a more unorthodox style, please share your knowledge. I love watching the unusual ones.

      One of my favourite fighters. The Mormon Mauler. The reverse crossguard messed with Robinson too. Genius. One of only two men to beat Robinson twice.

    This was a minor robbery for it was close, but Robinson did enough to deserve the decision. Sugar Ray landed the more effective punches and it turned out to be his last great performance.

      The 4th bout was also very close and not a one sided lose of Robinson like most media and experts wanted to portray.

    Time beat Ray that night, not Gene. Fight was close, Ray did enough but it was his last GREAT performance and was almost enough to beat a prime Fullmer

    anyone notice that fullmer's jabs are illegal? they strike down using the proximal and middle phalanges instead of the metacarpal knuckles? i could be wrong, but i really don't think so. it's probably part of why no one has used this style since. plus with modern film study and good fight plans, you could really exploit a fighter like this.

    Fullmer was a dirty cheat constantly hitting Robinson to the back of the head. The ref should have been deducting points!

    Gene fullmer rabbit punched sugar Ray Robinson 55 times and should have been disqualified! The second belt Robinson took back his title and the third bout was a draw so Robinson should have still been the champion and they said former was. What the hell.

      The average fan sees Fullmer “rabbit punching,” but that isn’t case at all. Robinson tied up Fullmer’s left arm, at which point Gene was entitled to do wharever the hell he wanted with his right hand, save for punch low or gouge-which he did not.. In four fights, Robinson and his camp didn’t object once. Why? Because they knew-as did the referees-that the punch was perfectly legal. It’s much ado about nothing, really, as none of those punches hurt Robinson in the slightest anyway. It was an aggressive reminder from Fullmer to Robinson that he was there to win and that Sugar Ray needed to watch his ass.

    Robinson is 143-8-2 coming into this fight.

      Maybe the greatest of all time, but no matter how good you are, someone out there has your number. Randy Turpin gave Robinson fits.

      @@tjjordan9715 I agree with that. There's no such thing as an invincible fighter. And I give Turpin full credit in beating Robinson and no it's NOT because he's past his prime. Robinson is slightly past his prime in that bout but NOT yet washed out. Turpin simply had the better strategy that night if not the better boxer.

      @Leon Degrelle No. They ain't. It's either they are just smart enough to avoid the one who can beat them. Or lucky enough not to cross paths with them.

    • @raulratonmacias1377
      @raulratonmacias1377 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Leon Degrelle we are talking about invincibility here. Not their record. Even actor Mickey Rourke is undefeated in boxing but ONLY an idiot will say he's invincible.

    • @raulratonmacias1377
      @raulratonmacias1377 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Leon Degrelle because they are NOT. Tunney actually lose to a blind Harry Greb. Marciano actually lose to Roland LaStarza and if his fight with Walcott was just 12 rounds or less, he will surely lose that one. He was losing badly to an old guy before he land the shot. That's no invincibility. Terry has how many draws. If record is the basis of invincibility then according to your STUPID LOGIC then Mickey Rourke is invincible.

    This decision was shameful. Robinson won this going away. In many of these fights Fullmer should have been disqualified for butting, plus holding and hitting, and hitting on the break, even refusing to let the referee break clinches, in which he would grab his opponent and keep hitting and might have been except for judges and referees handpicked by the promoters who always wanted Palmer to win because he had all his fights out west. Boston has a reputation for giving decisions to hometown fighters who didn't deserve them, but Las Vegas and Los Angeles we're so biased put Boston to shame. Robinson won the fourth fight also, but Fullmer was given that decision also. They say these fights were great, but they were really some of the dirtiest fights ever fought.
