I did Tomiki Aikido (a super competitive style)for 8 years in the UK and when I started Jiu Jitsu I got smoked during sparring over and over again. It was humiliating. I put Aikido aside (and my ego)and trained hard In Jiu Jitsu and became an all round better fighter. Aikido is a very high art form and follows the path of Bushido closely in mind, body and spiritual principal but if you want an all round self defence/attack martial art I believe Jiu Jitsu is the better way to go. MMA like it or not changed the face of fighting arts and the best of those fighters come from Jiu Jitsu. As for Steven Seagal he is just a really terrible actor and an ego driven narcissist.

I think the term MIXED martial arts speaks volumes. Meaning, its a mixture of multiple types of martial arts. If a person combines the strengths of multiple types of martial arts including that of akido, and goes against someone who specializes in only one particular style it only makes sense he would come out on top since he has removed the weakest parts of any particular style and replaced it with the stronger elements of another.

The original masters who devoted themselves to learning and teaching Morihei Ueshiba's Aikido back in the day were already experts in jujutsu and/or judo. On the contrary most people today who take up aikido have never had any exposure to any martial arts, certainly none that involve getting physically hurt so it is no wonder aikido fails them. It was never meant to be a "complete" martial art - no martial art is - but more of a supplement to other martial arts. In fact, its principles are quite sound; it's just in the implementation is where it fails because of the way it is taught and because it has been watered down over time to fit in with Ueshiba’s philosophy of non-violence. Steven Seagal's Tenshin "Aikido" is a style (or rather approach) that is more true to the original aiki jujutsu from which it was derived. This style is much more direct and certainly more aggressive (some would say brutal) than most other styles, which is contrary to aikido philosophy. In any case, Aikido "works" for Steven Seagal because he is 6'5" and 210 lb. When you are that big, you don't really need martial arts, do you.

Was told, i had the talent in it to become a Master within years but stopped because i had a job as a sailor and not the time to really engage into it anymore. Few Months after that i had a sparing-fight with someone who was learning Wushu. Well... the Aikidotraining worked fine as a baseline. But the upperhand i got was because i mixed in what i learned while fighting for fun with my best friend back then. You could say i did some kind of Aikido-based streetfight.
Would i try to fight expierienced fighters? Nope. Definitly not. Because even if would keep up the training and workout i would not stand a chance because i never really learned to attack but just defend myself...

Aikido excel at getting out of a tough spot when people are still threatening you, grabbing you and intimidating you.

Aikido isn't meant to be used in competition, hence the fact that there's no competition in it. It's about learning to link your mind and your body, whatever the kind of body you have. And it's by using your mind that you make the fight happen as you want it to be.
And I'm not speaking spritually mubmo-jumbo, "believing in your victory to make it true" kind of bullshit, no I'm speaking strategy.
Faking an opening there in order to provoke an attack which you know you can use to do a technique to subdue the partner/adversary.
It's like writing a sentence or, as I like to say, playing music, one word or note leads to another that leads to another, that leads to the end.
But yeah it may not work all the time, moreover against overtrained athletes who know what's going to happen, but that doesn't mean it's bad or useless. A plane can crash, it doesn't mean every planes are a failure.
To me, aikido is a formidable experience but I don't intend to use it in a fight, because I don't intend to fight.

Trying to promote it as such simply highlights ones ignorance in the martial arts.

Please be sure the script is accurate. For instance, the older Aikido master with 1 arm, about halfway through the video, did no blending during the entire fight. The Aikido master sparring with a "larger stronger opponent", when taken down, was not threatening with the headlock at all. His opponent just let him up. Many of the Aikido "strikes" that might work are illegal in MMA (throat, finger manipulation) and others will get you killed (stepping to the side with your hands down).

Many examples in the video show, that the aggressor is not really attacking. A real fighter would never attack with a stick from just top to bottom. In addition, a real MMA does not just stand still watching what the defender does with the arm. A MMA fighter would immediately start punching. This changes the fight dynamic dramatically. There are dozens of genuine videos filming equally trained Aikido and MMA experts. Aikido always loses. Martial Art is an Art and should be respected as such. If waits and do nothing will be thrown. If do something will be thrown. Only options to defend is actively resisting and make counter throw. Anything other than that will be throwing. I have a friend who finally gave up martial arts and has series of black belts in different martial arts and a couple of dans in aikido. his son got in break dancing, this old guy is break dancing with his son for fun. His don does it for competition and performance. He was going around with his son so he thought he would do break dancing. Normally, fathers end up in sports when kids are doing it. I ended up in judo because I had to learn the techniques for "my kids competitions". I got into aikido in San Diego when I walked into this one place to learn karate and saw the sensei doing aikido. I was like "he did not even touch them and they flew in the air.". Not everyone wants to fly in the air. Ki sometimes does not work. with my friend break dancing, I thought it was funny. He is actually happy that he does not have to show up to do training.

Aikido was developed to fight against a sword.. So it's not good for self protection? 🤔🙄

@@kritGeist hmmmm shiho nage is in judo as well as in aikido. it is a form developed in many ways called the four corner throw. it is not a "development to fight against a sword" . . .. it is an kata so to say an extension of the sword. how one trains a four corner throw mirrors the same motions of the sword in the same movement. this has nothing to do with "defense" in the sense of defense. one has one's limitations in dealing with the throw. in aikido, the movement is more of a reaction as in judo, one can attack or defend using shiho nage.
Osensei trained a number of different martial arts. aikido itself have different practitioner styles. some are accused of being a dance while on the other side of the art, there is the "demand" for a more aggressive form of the art. In any case, you most always have a uke "willing" or flowing with the throw set by the nage. how much friction or restrained is in question. most of the time to always, the uke is a willing subject expecting to be thrown and flows with the art so to say "the uke and the nage". hey, what do I know . . . I am a forever white belt. i have never tested. never found a reason to be tested. i did aikido in san diego, hawaii and in germany. when i left, i was still a white belt.

The video does not correspond to reality. There was no confrontation between an exclusively aikido fighter an a MMA fighter. A person who knows something else like boxing for example besides aikido is a MMA fighter who have aikido among his techniques, not an aikido fighter.

Aikido can't really be used in MMA successfully as it incorporates asymmetrical fighting techniques which are against the rules.

    • @peterrinas3862
      @peterrinas3862 หลายเดือนก่อน

If a technique cannot be practiced, it will be ineffective in a real fight. All the necessary physical prerequisites, which should be developed through practice, are missing. In particular, the reflexes that enable automatic movement in a fight should be mentioned here. Techniques that require you to think about things don't work under stress.

"asymmetrical fighting techniques" what kind of crap is that? A new stupid excuse for the inusability of aïkido?

@@peterrinas3862when u think to much in aikido u all ready loose a fight. Be ready for a fight not think what to do. It's the same in other martial arts, u getting better and a right fighter when u train enough to act in a situation automatically!

This is awesome stuff! I ordered my 10th Degree Black Belt from a mail-order catalog back in in 1982 when I was 19!! I was born for this stuff; having dropped out of high school in my Senior year, just 1 unit short of graduating. 3D chess right there.

People in the comments seem to know nothing about Aikido, which is sad. It's about twisting and breaking your joints. And yes, it works. Just don't get caught.
