NOT a $5000 kayak with $800 combo and $100 swim bait. Love that’s simple realistic stuff to catch beautiful giant fish all shot by a normal dude. Thanks for taking us all along.
For sure! It’s about finding the fish, he’s proven that time and time again by catching them with all kinds of random lures like Lego figures, for example. He does also have a newer Hobie though, but this is his original kayak. I think he’s mentioned it’s a Tarpon 120. That combo is about $500+ though, reel is a Diawa Zilion ($400) And rod is $130. But he’s always caught fish, even on his older cheaper setups.
The epitome of fishing. Quiet, peaceful and the occasional adrenaline rush from a top water smash. Truly enjoy your videos. No gimmicks, no music, no product placement other than what you personally use and none of the other rigamarole. Love it, man. By far the best fishing channel on TH-cam.
I love how there is all the bass anglers out here talking about you need a $500 7’6 heavy for frogging and a $600 7’2 Medium Heavy for jigs, etc etc…. Meanwhile here is Matt on his kayak with a 6’6 medium heavy bass x catching big bass, pike, musky, and whatever other fish that swims in the waters he patrols on swimbaits, frogs, whopper poppers, jigs, you name it, all on the same rod for the most part, putting all them fancy livescoping elitist to shame lmao I love it, keep up the great work Matt‼️🎣

Nice snag. I really like your videos. Kinda jealous of you fishing so much. Not really just saying it sure looks fun to fish as much. Thanks for taking us watchers along.
I just found your channel and I really love Topwater fishing. I am on disability now but this reminds me of leaving Mississippi filled with largemouth to fish in central Wisconsin with my late Father for bass, northerns, and muskies. I miss it a lot. The folks laughed at us going out fishing until they found out our large spinner baits we ordinarily used to bash fish with back home were great for catching northern and musky.
I'm really starting to like the segmented swimbaits and you can get them off temu really cheap I change the hooks and split rings on some of them the ones that come chrome plated some come with decent hooks and the action on them are great Bass and pickerel love them. And if I snag up and loose one it doesn't bother me like a more expensive bait.great video summer time is here the dog days are around the corner.
You are the only guy I know that could probably take a tomato paste can put a treble hook on it and catch fish. No matter what lure you have on you catch fish. Tight lines brother!
11:45 Not too uncommon that they wrap themselves in the line and the hook is somewhere around the dorsal fin when they make those impressive jumps. Fortunately getting hooked right around the dorsal fin area doesn't affect them much in the long run. I have re-captured pikes that I've hooked like that some time (hours to days) later and they manage well. Well, it's 5 am here, time to go out and catch some morning pikes before the water gets too warm and the pikes looses the apetite!
after fishing the mississippi since the 80's drought i have learned when there is flooding the fish go tight to shore to take advantage of the abundance of new food to be had there.
I got a longer paddle and a rudder for my new fishing kayak and it works way better! Can you do a rapala floating lure video or a rapala countdown lure video? Perch color, black and gold, and trout.
I have found that high water in a river makes fishing very difficult. Fish simply relate to different things. BTW: I used to fish the Red River near Grand Forks a lot 30 to 40 years ago, and I saw several Goldfish surface in the Red.
Absolutely love your videos! I live in Baja now, but was in MN for 17 years, obsessed with small lakes, rivers, and creeks. Just curious, with these more "readily-available" lures you use, do you ever upgrade the terminal tackle? Saludos! 🤙
I usually leave the hooks as they are with production lures. Some of the antique lures I’ve used in the past I swapped hooks on, and a couple hand made lures I’ve received I’d swap the hooks for some bigger ones.
I keep the exact locations of most of these spots secret, but it’s just a backwater half oxbow type channel off the main river so there isn’t really any current going through there. You can find similar spots on many rivers though, oxbow channels, around islands, top sides of dams etc are usually slower water. I do usually have to deal with current a bit getting to those spots though. Where I was at here the water is moving pretty quick getting up there now and definitely not for inexperienced paddlers. I was quick getting my kayak loaded up at the start the other day so game and fish didn’t pull up and try to tell me to stay off the river lol.
I was hoping I’d catch another fish or two to make the video a little longer! I had a decent pike follow the lure later too I almost added at the end but it was mostly three minutes of me not talking much trying to get the fish to take my lure with no payoff. I’ve got a couple longer bass fishing videos to edit for the next uploads though!
Have you gotten broken off before using that 50# leader? Leaders I have bought are like around 100# flourocarbon so quite a bit heavier. I might have to consider going lower like you do.
As a ridiculous lure junkie, of course I have those swimbaits 😂...the chrome 1 is pretty cool, too...have to get the exact speed to keep it running right, but not a bad lure for under $10... high water? Gotta throw a Rat! That's the only time i ever saw a rat in the water....high, flooded water ...Wish we'd get some rain...mid/upper 90's & zero rain for awhile...just got back, caught 4 ...not too bad for a terribly hot day...worst part was loading the kayak on the cart & walking back to the parking lot
The water is even higher out there now and I tried a rat at this spot earlier this week. I saw fish and had a couple follow the big 50 Spro rat but I haven’t had any luck getting them to bite much of anything. I think it’s because they’ve been stepping the flow up every couple days still. The fish seem to bite much better when it stabilizes for at least a few days.
What connection knot do you use for the j flouro to braid? Immaculate as always 👏 still on the hunt for that pike net can’t find a perfect kayak size! Cheers from Toronto 🇨🇦
It seems to be a decent lure for pike and muskie, at least the biggest one. I tossed it around earlier this spring too in a bay on a lake and had a couple pike smash it!
question for ndyak or anyone else really im trying to catch my first river musky and i want to know what the simplest or most effective lure is. i just want something that has a good chance of getting bit and is hard to mess up like technique wise, thanks
Something like a 130 Whopper Plopper is easy to fish and gets but if they’re hitting topwater. Otherwise the 8” Savage Gear 4Play has caught me more muskie and big pike than any other lure.
They’ve cranked the dam open even more and it’s as high as it’s been in several years now! It should help repopulate that area with fish after they removed a bunch of pike and muskie at the dam last year.
I've seen you drag your kayak fairly often as someone who owns one I wanted to ask if you have any hull protection that you might recommend? I appreciate your videos...top quality.
I don’t do anything to my hull, other than fixing a couple deep scratches I got from a piece of metal post sticking an inch out of the ground I dragged it over. I try not to drag it over concrete or anything too rough, and use a drag leash so I can pull it flat and not have just the back corner of the hull making ground contact. Grass, sand, and gravel aren’t going to do much.

The fluorocarbon line's better than a steel leader or would the later dampen the lures swimming action
