  • @motocritic
    @motocritic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I completely agree with Tempting Fate's comment. I don't own a Ducati, but I test rode a lot of them. Including both Mutistrada 1260 Enduro, and Multistrada V4 S. Overall I like V4 S way much more than 1260 Enduro. BUT I completely disagree with everything that Rambo said about 1260 Enduro in this video. He said that this bike is bulky and difficult to steer on the low speed, and doesn't have much torque when going - but that's exactly the opposite of what I felt when test rode this bike. I clearly remember that 1260 Enduro was VERY light to steer on the parking speeds - like I couldn't believe how light it feels at that speed. I test rode a lot of bikes in my life, including the majority of the most recent top end models - and Multistrada 1260 Enduro is probably the lightest steering big adventure bike ever. There is nothing wrong with the Multistrada V4 S steering either, but it does not steers as light and nimble as the 1260 Enduro at low speeds.
    Another thing is torque. I remember going around 100 km/h on the 1260 Enduro on the low throttle in the 4th gear, then I quickly opened the throttle wide - and the bike did quite huge power wheelie. I did not expected that! And Rembo says that 1260 Enduro doesn't wheelies at all - so there was definitely something wrong with the bike when he tested it. And low tire pressure perfectly explains both bad handling and the lack of power and speed.
    Now to be honest I have to mention that I actually test rode the same Multistrada 1260 Enduro not once, but twice. First time I rode it the bike was almost new with something like 600-1000 km on the odometer. It had A LOT of torque, and accelerated very rapidly. Sadly, I had no chance to test the bike's top speed during that ride, but one time when I opened the throttle wide and hold it 1260 Enduro easily went over 250 km/h on the speedo, and this wasn't even the top speed - it could definitely go above 260 km/h at least. The second time I rode the same bike was 3 months and ~ 9000 km later - after some journalists took it to the long adventure journey where they treated this bike like a real Enduro. They even bent the rims, so the dealer had to replace it (this was demo bike). And the problem on my second test ride of the Multistrada 1260 Enduro was that it didn't had the power that it should. The bike was really lacking in terms of performance. I also test rode Multistrada 950 S at the same day - 950 first, and then 1260. And I was shocked to discover that this day Multistrada 1260 Enduro had no more power than Multistrada 950. I've had plenty of opportunities to test the top speed that day - and I did. And I was only able to push 232 km/h out of the Multistrada 1260 Enduro that day - and that's while going downhill. On the flat tarmac bike was even slower (around 220 km/h). So there was definitely something wrong with the 1260 Enduro second time I rode it - it just didn't had the power which it had when it was new. Not even close! I don't know why. And no - I did not messed the electronic settings. Everything was set to the maximum power - just like the first time.
    As far as i know, all Ducatis with 1260 motor (Multistrada, Multistrada Enduro, Diavel, XDiavel) has a big problem with it's engine: it just dies after 20-30k kilometers because of it's design flaws. And Ducati blames the owners (although it's clearly not their fault), and refuses to replace broken engines under the warranty. I've heard about at least 4 similar cases here in Russia. That's why I don't recommend to buy Ducati 1260 to anyone: they are just extremely unreliable - and that is a proven fact. Besides, they vibrate horribly on the high rpms - that's very uncomfortable.

    I just traded in my 2020 1260 Enduro for a 2022 v4s and I’m not sure what was wrong with the 1260 Enduro he was riding. Yes, the v4 is is smoother….but the 1260 Enduro is a wheelie machine, has great range, very fast and very good handling on & off road. While I like the v4 better…they are NOT like night & day different. In fact there are times I wish I still had the 1260 Enduro

    Rembo, thanks for the enlightening comparison between the two. I have a 2020 MTS 1260 Enduro and do understand there is a difference between the two. I understand there is a difference in generation but the two bikes are also built with a different purpose.
    I am on the fence and will soon try the V4S (after the winter weather in NJ has gone). I like the V-Twin concept and went with the 1260 Enduro based on the 30L tank (sorry, European habit; 7.9 gallon), the Touratech panniers and the overall gas mileage.

      Michael, I completely agree that they were built for two different purposes, with the V4S being more of an actual multi-Strada for on road and the 1260 Enduro set up more for off-road than on road.

    Personally I think aesthetically the 1260 is a better looking bike. It may be bit more top heavy because of the larger tank but it’s also more fuel efficient. What it lacks in top end hp it gains in torque. The v4s may be bit more refined with advanced technology but the old 1260 was good enough for Carlin Dunne to take Pikes Peak. Nuff said!

    Thank you Rembo. Fantastic thoughts. Enlightenment for me I have ridden both the 1260s and the 950s in Bologna during the Dream Tour. The 1260s felt very unrefined to me initially. I kept mum, as I had an inferiority complex, being an Indian among riders coming from the developed world who were all going ga ga about the 1260s and Enduro. On the third day unfortunately (fortunate for me in a way) one of the rider crashed his bike which made them reveal their spare bike hiding in the backup vehicle. It was a brand new 950s. The rider who fell wanted a powerful machine so we swapped our bikes and man the difference was evident. The multi 950s felt so much refined and smooth. So what you say about the V2, I guess is spot on! It must be even more refined. Ducati's learning curve is quite apparent.

The V2 has more than enough for roads here in the UK, excepting the GSs low down torque. The V2S handles like a dream and has an awesome mid range. As for off road I’d buy something a lot smaller…

    The difficulty you had while driving the 1260 was not obvious to me when i rode the newr version, so i think that it might had to do with the tyre pressure probably....Best wishes by me and ride safe with joy! The Enduro is a totally different geometry configuration with different suspension, ride height, tires and front wheel size (19"). No way does the V4S with its 19" front wheel feel as nimble as the 1260 with a 17" front wheel based on my experiences. Also the 19" front V4S does not steer as quick as the 17" front wheels V2 bikes. Why do you think they came back out with the 17" Pikes Peak model, right!

    I see this video while waiting for my 2020 Enduro to get delivered later this month 😂
    I thought long and hard about the V4 (L4? 🤔). It's got a lot to offer, such as the 30k mile valve checks, but the mpg and small gas tank kill it for me. If the V4 had and version with a bigger gas tank and magic modes that'd allow you to switch between 30mpg and 45mpg whenever you want, I'd have been all in.
    But I basically wanted a sportier version of the 1250GSA because my priorities are slightly more offroad/long distance, and I was more than happy with the 1260's power/steering coming from a cruiser.
    I kinda wonder if you had traction control and wheelie controls off 🤔 you probably did, and I can see picking the V4 if acceleration is what you lean towards. Thanks for the comparison 👍

I love it...bought it end of PCP finance deal. It goes like stink but hasn't got the excitement of V4 I admit, or the equisite handling but you got to be one hell of a rider to see difference. I think you were victimized by low tire pressure. All the 1260s pull your arms off with midrange power compared to the 1200 DVT bikes. I believe the 1260 E uses a smaller rear sprocket and that would lower the overall gearing making it even more of a low end monster. No, i dont get your experience and no other reviewer reached your conclusion about the power. Steering and ride height will be less responsive but not as bad as the 1200 Enduro was. I fully expect a 1260 bike to out pull. A V4s exiting corners with higher torque numbers below 6000 rpm. In roll on power tests i have seen show the 1260 pull the V4s up until the rpm hits 8000 then the V4s takes over. But who goes around riding a ducati running over 8000 rpm on average?

      I have to agree. I have the 2020 Enduro and it will in fact rip your arms off. This review does make me curious about the v4. The folks at the dealer don't necessarily think the upgrade is required, but they also acknowledge the some people just want the newest thing... now, that white multi v4s looks absolutely stunning to me. hmmm...
