It's really surprising to me, an amazing bike, but seemingly worthless over 10k Miles! perhaps due to the newer V4 models coming out? but I still love mine and would certainly have One over any GS 😉

@@Budget-Cars-And-Bikes I think it is more so the fear of high-cost problems after it crosses the 10K milage mark. My '17 Multi 1200S developed a faulty rear shock at 15K miles. Dealer wanted $3,300 USD to repair. Lost trust in the bike after that and sold it, especially with the Desmo service coming due. Bought a '22 VSTROM 1050XT. Not as exciting as the Multi but 95% as capable, handles just as well, and extraordinarily less costly to maintain.

I dealt with the same took the hit in for 10 grand from a seller in Virginia rode it back to NY thinking I’d be able to reseal after putting a few miles on it because I had seen them go for 15-16 but when I posted it for sale didn’t have anyone seriously trying to buy it most people were asking a lot of questions no one seriously trying to see the bike and other that sounded like thieves asking for my Alfred then never telling me they’d come to see it after getting my address. Then I’ve seen them for sale for 8-9500 so I felt I’d just keep it and keep riding as its the most comfortable bike I’ve owned for long trip and commuting

Massive stigma over bikes with slightly higher miles oh yes, but why !, i paid 15k for a 1260s with 5k miles 18mths ago after eventually getting a px on the Gs, its now on 20k miles and im keeping it, no point in swapping not much on market thats better in my opinion, good vid 👍.

I think your right, the market for bikes over 15k miles has all but died! Especially if you're trying to PX at a dealer, people seem to be happy to pay £15k for a 2018 Multistrada with 5k miles, but wouldn't consider the same bike with 20k miles more, even at half that price!!! Even with a full Ducati Service History? People go on about how certain bikes go on forever, but you may well end up having to keep it forever after a couple of touring trips abroad 🤣

Many brands are good for 200,000+ km easily with just routine maintenance. I've put 165,000-km on my 2002 BMW R1150-RS with zero issues, other than regular maintenance, all of which I can readily do myself. Runs like the day it rolled out of the showroom, and the bike is a blast, as it handles very well in the twisties, yet it's adjustable ergonomics make it comfortable on all-day rides. The side cases are detachable so I keep the weight low when I'm on day trips, but can load up for over-night trips.
I bought my Second 2002 BMW R1150-RS in 2020 used, with only 23,000-km on it - barely broken in - for a steal at $5,500! I'll likely get all my money back when I 'retire' from riding in the next couple of years or so.
Buying used is the best way to go. If it's like you say, and the market for used bikes is so soft, then prices will reflect that, and there will be deals to be had with low-mileage bikes in top condition, like mine was...

Sorry to hear about your woes selling the multistrada. I did consider the baby 950 multistrada but ended up with an S1000Xr and love it. If you like comfort and speed, go XR. If just comfort then maybe GS and at least you’ll always be able to sell it.

I have heard good things about the 950 Multistrada, but not so good on the XR? Are they not a bit of a nightmare with vibration at speed? and I've had 2 GS1200 now, amazing bikes, just a bit dated at the same price range as the 1260. You need to be looking at a 2018+ GS to get all the fun toys, and they are much more than the 1260 😉

@@Budget-Cars-And-Bikes I’m an older rider (seems like the only kind that ride bikes anymore) and suffer from my right hand going numb on most bikes. So I was super wary about the XR however, I have the heavy bar ends and although there is a tiny bit of vibration at around 70 to 80 mph, it’s nothing that effects my hand or enjoyment of the bike. There is also a little tingling through the foot pegs at that speed too, so if you’re super sensitive to this stuff then it may be a problem but I don’t even notice it. I ride a GSXR too and this gives me just as much fun but sitting upright in a bubble of calm with negated grips and cruise control. No downside for me but we are all different so you’d have to ride one to find out whether you liked it.

    I don’t think it’s just Ducati
The bike market & car market are both CRAZY
For instance I’ve been looking around for around 18 months at different bikes & here is what I found prices make no sense at dealers or privately.
    1. Ducati Diavel carbon 2016 with 8k miles full history Gen 2
it’s mint condition, the shop put it up for sale in June 2023 & it’s still for sale now £8995.
The cheapest Carbon Diavel i can find is a 2011 for £6500 which a Gen 1. But go the other way you can get a 2020 Gen 3 for £11,000. Prices just don’t make sense.
And it’s the same story for the bmw Gs.
At this moment in time bmw are trying to sell all there old stock 1250 as the new 1300 GSA is out soon.
So you can buy a BMW R1250 GSA TE with Rallye , Trophy spec for as little as £18,200.
With a £1200 vouchers for luggage. So you’re getting a brand new bike for £17,000 in real terms.
But there are 2019 GSA up for sale for £14,000 & some 21 plates for £16000.
The cheapest GSA I could find with the LCD clocks / dash is £11,000 on a late 2018 & that’s a 1200 one. How on earth is a 6 & a half year old bike with an old engine worth just 6k less than a brand new one.
So many bikes are just not selling , but no one seems to be dropping prices.
    It’s totally NUTS
If you don’t believe me check out bmw website for prices
You can get a brand new R1250GSA with 0 miles on bmw pcp 2.9% for zero deposit & only £190 pm
But you buy a second hand one it’s 10.9% & it’s £320 pm because instead of £1700 in interest on the new one , the used one gets £6,000 in interest charges CRAZY

It's a weird one for me, whenever I have a touring bike, I want a naked bike, and visa versa! But j just cannot fault the 1260 as a bike, it's super quick, super comfortable, sounds amazing, and j enjoyed every ride so far. But I get bored quickly! I kinda knew I overpaid for it, I just didn't realize how difficult it might be to move on, and people's views generally on higher mileage bikes, probably the highest mileage bikes I've owned, not sure I would make the mistake again, but wow what a bike!!! The only reason I've even considered selling, is if it tips over 40k miles in my ownership, it will be almost impossible to get anything near what I paid, so I'm considering selling before then 😉

  • @aaron___6014

Wait, it's your biggest mistake because you might face some depreciation and difficulty selling it? You're going to keep it instead of trying something else because you'll lose $1k? In the US you have to pay tax, fees, and reg every time you buy a bike and it's often more than you mentioned losing.

@@Budget-Cars-And-Bikes I've owned my previous BMW for 17 years. When I sold it (for health reasons) it still looked and ran like the day I bought it. My 1974 Ducati 750-GT is in Great condition, and is valued at $25,000 - more than 10 times what I paid for it.
For me bikes are a long-term investment. Once I own it I rarely consider what it's worth if I sell, because I have no plans to sell it. I do my homework before I buy, researching owner feedback and reliability reports. I bought my BMW because routine maintenance is ridiculously easy, and I've never had any repairs other than a broken ignition connection.
