When I first started riding in 2020 at the age of 51, I didn’t know what I was looking at with all these different styles of bikes that exist today. Strange looking, insect/alien things with a handlebar and an engine. When I saw the “cruiser” style I felt home. Reminds me of what I remember a “motorcycle” should look like.
An honnor to be first. I absolutely agree with everything said in this video. Riding doesn't always have to be about speed, it's about having a good time isn't it
Agree and did! After many many years without a cruiser this past November I purchased a 2023 BMW R 18 100 year anniversary and absolutely am in love with it. The comfort is off the charts I could ride it all day and often do ! 😎
Been a sportbike guy for a while and last year I bought a '22 Indian Chief. It's the attitude, rumble, and beautiful style that makes me fall more in love with cruisers everyday.
Smiling & laughing at Softail Standard back-up. -Looking forward to your future Father & Son cruise videos since the countryside in your home videos is so lovely.
I’ve been riding a HD sport glide for 3 years now. 31,000klms later I have no desire to go beyond a cruiser. The style just sets you up for a relaxing ride and what a lovely way to front end the day. Nice job chaps. 😎👍
Spent 18 years riding a Shovel so every ride was an event. Now on a 30 year old Evo and an 18 year old Sportster. I guess that makes me old school. You're right about reverse gears. I'm 65 and starting to struggle manoeuvring the big 'un around.
I've been flirting with the idea of owning a cruiser for a while, even had a few test rides on a Harley. Ended up going the other direction and buying an Africa Twin, but I think my next bike will be a cruiser. Your R18 is really growing on me, great value too, well at least in Australia where the price slots in between the Softail Standard and the Street Bob. Looks like more bike for the $ than the Harley's mentioned.
Fantastic bikes. Bikes like this are the dream for me. Just put a deposit on a Meteor 350 (my first bike) but in a few years I know I'll be looking to up the ante quite a bit.
You two are spot on in every point you make. Cruisers are it for me, especially in my 60’s. And I thought about changing out my new Speedmaster’s stock pipes, but I like the sound as is, and don’t think V&H slips ons will make that much of a difference. I also like the look of those stock BMW pipes, so it really depends on whether you like that stock sound. Mr. Darcy’s Harley sounds sweet - not too loud, but a nice grumble. To me, the R18 sounds fine.
I think I need to stay at your holiday home! You guys got me back into bikes, you showed me the Hyosung Aquila 125 and you entertain me weekly, thank you for everything!
I think once you ride a cruiser you become hooked very quickly, especially if you enjoy long trips. I'am lucky enough to own a few different bikes and they come and go but my Harley is definitely a permanent fixture which i can't imagine i will ever sell. Another great review guys.👍💯
Hi both. I have a Kawasaki Vulcan S and whilst some people are disparaging about it and comment it isn’t really a cruiser, I love it. Handling is great, and I personally love the looks. Totally different from my T120 so best of both worlds IMHO.
Such an awesome video! Incredible country side, home and beautiful bikes. You guys perfectly describe the feeling of riding a low end torque, all metal machine. Guess to each his own, but I couldn't agree more. And that drone is fascinating. Thank you gentlemen!
My 2017 Bobber has a pair of Vance and Hines cans on it... much more visceral and on the move a glorious bellow... been through all the genres... sports, road, and finally settled on the cruiser... dead comfy and waaay more relaxed... loving it
I'm with you on not liking the pointy plastic parts of modern machines. A bike should look like a bike. I do enjoy watching MotoGP and WSB, but I don't feel the need to emulate the riders these days. I prefer feeling like I'm going fast when I'm not particularly, I don't want my rides to be over too soon!
Great video chaps. Been a sports bike guy all my life. Turned 50 and rode a harley fat boy and fell in love with it. Might even be able to keep my license a few more years too. Also ordered a cvo road glide limited which apparently weighs 430kg 🤣
I totally agree with cruisers, Torque is so wow factor, i recently got back into biking, and did 4500 miles in last 5 months, which is more than i ever did in my whole life on bikes and am really enjoying the meditative freedom you get from riding. Today my son passed his full bike license and so proud he did it so easily. I have the 2021 street bob in black, did quite a few changes, comfy Saddleman seat, 2.5ft sissy bar, engine bars, Memphis shades gauntlet and hand guards, V & H mini grenades in Crome and stage 1 tune. The best bike out there, tested so many and nothing compares to a good cruiser. I have a 2022 Ducati Monster too, its good fun quick and revs well & still a twin with real decent torque, my wife has a 2022 Honda Monkey bike and tbh that gets as many looks as the Harley, cause its a real bit of fun and looks great. I have ordered another twin the 2022 Honda CB500X which you reviewed and i think its going to tick all the boxes in between the Streetbob and Monster. My one regret is i didn't get back into bikes earlier, my reason was they are too dangerous, but what i found is the bike isn't dangerous, the user style of riding is, i chose defensive riding, i took the bike safe course with the police which was awesome fun day out for not a lot of money £50.
Really good points there!! You’re absolutely right about riding style and that’s another reason why cruisers are a great choice because it’s not about ragging it everywhere 👍🏼👍🏼
Oh man, I do really enjoy this riding style. Have a BMW R18 and a HD Heritage Softail. They are surely my favorite rides. They just offer that true motorcycle experience. Do like the others but for different reasons. You guy’s do such a good job, really appreciate your style and sharing. Oh, and the drone footage is a great addition. Stay well my brothers! 🤙🏼
I am 45 and agree with you on the tech of things on a bike. I ride a good old Yamaha xt600e and I would like to buy a second bigger bike but I am put off with all the tech gadgetry. You have interested me in these cruiser type of things
I have a BMW R18 FE 2021 and my wife has the 2022 Indian Super Chief Limited 116 ci. (1890cc) both fantastic with similar performance. Both are well built from metal and will hopefully last a long time..
Great vid gents & love the drone shots! As for the standard exhaust, as I mentioned previously as I own one, leave it! It does open up with more miles & I love that boxer sound. If you wanted the sound of a HD, I’m sure you would’ve bought one.🤪 As for the rego late falling off, well I mean it weighs as half as much as the bike!🤣 Check out our rego plates for bikes in Oz.👍🏼😎🇦🇺
If it was me and I had the luck to own that BMW I wouldn’t replace that exhaust at all. It has a really beautiful shape and complements the bike, and with that beautiful location that you live at why would you even need a loud exhaust? I’m sure you can easily hear that engine cruising at those beautiful country lanes…but that is just me and my opinion.
Lovely countryside in Wales. I thought for half a second you were going to do a burnout without your number plate but was quietly relieved when you didnt of course. Maybe when the honeymoon is long forgotten, lol!
As someone who rides a Honda Rebel 500 everyday to work I can tell you I absolutely love it! And in the past I’ve had a Yamaha XS650 Honda CB550 Shadow 1100 a V45 Magna 750 and a Virago 750. And I can safely say only the Magna would’ve spanked my Rebel. All the rest would have lost to this little bike. So it’s got more than enough power for me these days and I really like the modern classic look. But I would NEVER EVER have an Automatic 😴 Anyway Love the video Gentlemen 👍 PS I like the look of the BMW better,Sorry Darcy🤷♂️ and he should leave the pipes alone. I mean it is a BMW!!!
Had a Magna 750 years ago also. With the right tires on it, it was a little beast on the backroads and handled far better than any cruiser should and better than a lot of bikes Ive had since.
I love my Japanese cruisers too. Had a virago 750, v-star 1100 and now a m109r. The 9er is my fave. It cab actually haul ass. Found the yamaha's a bit slow
Well said. I do get tired of the motorcycle magazines and many TH-camrs exhorting the wonders of “6 axis IMU traction control” etc. By all means have it for emergencies or for less skilled riders, but they talk about the tech before the engines or other aspects, which is ridiculous. A TFT screen with Apple Car Play? What’s the point, might as well have a DVD player too.
Agree 100%, and I've owned many bikes, including HD, BMW, Triumph, Norton, BSA, Ducati, Moto Guzzi...not counting all the dirt bikes. Cruisers put you right. They just do. Your point: bringing yourself into line with the bike, becoming part of the machine, the sound, wind, clunk of gears, throttle blip...that's motorcycles, to me. I gotta say, you do a great job, guys. Can't wait to see your take on the Lowrider S, by the way. Also, that BMW haunts me. I can't look away (but I have to...no more big bikes or I sleep in the garage...). But you have to change those fishtail pipes. I get it...shiny. But they look a little too Wisconsin/Midwest to me. And I'd love to hear the exhaust note from that twin outta shorter pipes. Thanks!
Watching you struggle with the big heavy cruiser at the beginning had me chuckling. I’m a cruiser rider myself but my Honda VT 750 Shadow Spirit, though no lightweight is so much easier to move around. Couldn’t agree more regarding why we ride cruisers, the involvement with the machine is all part of the experience. 👍
My missus sat on the couch and absolutely embraced the look and feel of the 1800 BMW for her next BMW bike... Now gotta take her for a test drive....Her BMW number plate fell of too! The Drone looks very cool. Does it dodge trees as it follows you down the road ? We often ride down some VERY narrow tight roads and have crashed a drone trying to film a ride...
For brutal torque I have the Rocket 3 GT - which is the pinnacle of torque. I also have a sport glide. There's nothing that the Harley does that the Rocket doesn't do better - it's faster, it handles better, it brakes better and it looks good. But I still love riding the Harley as it's more 'raw' if that makes sense? On a lazy sunny day out in the countryside flowing in and out of the bends with that lovely sound is great. To my mind it's all about different experiences..
Change the exhaust on the bmr. Probably won't sound as nice as the Harley, but you will hear it. First custom part to put on your bike. It's uh must! Beautiful bikes!
I have a BMW R1250GS and a Harley-Davidson Breakout 114. Technically, the GS is superior in every way. It’s faster, the brakes are better, it handles better, the suspension is sooooo much better, it’s more comfortable and it has better wind/weather protection. In comparison, the Breakout is a Neanderthal of a machine. It’s raw and brutal. And that is why …….. I absolutely love it. You have to really ride it. Be one with it. Makes me feel alive.
You nailed it and why people love Harley's just like they loved old British sports cars. Rawness, crudeness puts the rider in touch with their primal selves. Isolation makes a rider feel nothing other than a tach needle spinning on a dial.
The drone footage was pretty cool! I think the BMW sounds a little more like a BF109 😏. Triumph is a little more Spitfire😁, makes sense as it's more agile and quick. The Harley's got that low rumble of the P51 mustang 😄
Early in my biking years, I tried a Yamaha XV535 Virago. Very different to the sports bikes I was used to, however what put me off the cruiser style completely is when I went around corners I scraped the pegs - badly. Thirty years on, after a ton of various bikes on just about every flavour and power (not cruiser), I tried a Royal Enfield Meteor and totally fell in love with the relaxed cruising style, and no problems with the pegs ! Bought the bike. May go for a slightly bigger capacity machine one day (for extra oomph) but a massively heavy weight bike and scraping pegs are not where I want to go. Still, it's a start. Harley should learn something here and produce some basic, simple, cheaper bikes (which handle) for people to step into the cruiser world on. On another note, the Triumph Bobber shocked me as it was a cruiser-ish bike that actually handled well. Thanks for the vid as always !
Need to park my bike in a tight space at home,so a Cruiser is out (too long and heavy). So I stick with my trusty old Yamaha Fazer fzs 600,which I think is a bit of a quiet legend of a bike in itself!
I personally think the fishtail stock exhaust is a selling point of the R18 you can have other exhaust directly from BMW, but I think it's the best looking one.
The thing is Darcy many of us older men have done the Noisy motorbikes when we were your age.... I had a Norton with straight through megaphone exhaust on it.... and riding through the streets in Hastings old town must have being crazy for pedestrians.... but then again no one seemed to complain in those days
Ah! The eternal fight between one’s Harley and and an incline lol Still, you get a professional snooker player’s ability to analyse angles and possible exits and a good workout 👍
Great vid fellas, haha yip having a reverse on a big cruiser would be very handy! I use drones in most of my vids where I ride to the different beaches, it’s great to show off the coast line here in New Zealand Cheers 😎
I love those pipes on the beemer, nothing else would look right and it sounds great as is. No one but Harley owners likes the obnoxious sound of a raucous vw beetle. Your holiday rental is safe from me as long as there is a Harley on site 😅.
They sound like brash - which is quite apropo for a US product.....Sadly in New Zealand the gangs love them and they are stolen at a horrific rate - and when you see them on the road the behaviour tends to be quite anti-social. Can not ever buy one either.
Passed my mod 2 unrestricted a couple of days ago. Bike shopping today, despite everyone hating on it, I'm going to be looking at cruisers! The triumph speedmaster 865 is tempting me. All the best, from Yorkshire!
You should be able to find a bargain SM 900, but the new (1200) ones are very different and you could also find a bargain 2018 - 2021 SM. My advice is to try both. I have a 2022 SM, but there's not much difference, functionally, to the 2018 (and there will be a price difference!).
@@Disposalist I found the speedmaster 900 really comfortable when I sat on it. Sadly the used bike dealerships dont let you test ride. They seemed to be priced at around £6500 for a 2015 model. Do you think thats a decent price? Cheers
@@Will-uu8ed I’ve seen a few triumph bobber 1200 (basically same as speed master but single seat) selling on eBay for under £7k. You probably won’t be riding with a pillion in your first year anyway so something bare in mind
I recently bought a Royal Enfield Super meteor, but found the seat and suspension lacking. I now have to visit my physiotherapy mate to repair the damage done to my backside, I adore the Meteors engine and handling but I originally purchased it with the intention of long range touring. I am now considering Harley Davidson or Indian, hopefully Japanese old style cruisers will be imported back into Australia again, they we're banned unless they came standard with ABS @ FUEL INJECTION. I've always loved cruisers but the weight is an issue for me, I grimaced at Darcy giving himself a hernia trying to move his bike. The BMW'S electric motor reverse is a God send. May God watch over your family and keep you safe
I have a Rebel 1100 manual (& don't tell the wife) a R18C Both are great Cruisers. The BMW is so well refined and is much nicer to ride than the Honda. The Honda is much more fun to wring its neck. Weight difference VERY noticible, but the BMW is ride of choice and I am going to sell the Honda. I am a bit older so will enjoy the BMW the reverse is a game changer (well done BMW). The R18 will get too big for me at some stage so I will revert back to the Honda DCT at that time. For decades I could not understand why big cruisers were a thing. Now I have one and now I know why. .....Now how to tell the wife.... What I love about the BMW is its like the power in a 1960's V8 - tap it and it shakes and motivates forward & RPM range is similar and it vibes and shakes and lets you know what its thinking, down shift in a corner and it swears at you, very un German and like a 1960's V8 cornering is a thing but you miss plan it and it will let you know. It is a shared riding experience.
I wholeheartedly agree about the high torque in lower rpm. It's incredibly practical in real life usage. Cruisers are also a lot more narrow than an adventure bike so it can still lane filter very easily, I'm just not a fan of forward controls. Makes me feel like a parachute going against the wind.
I have 2 big bikes a kawasski zzr 1100 and a yamaha fjr 1300 love them both but really fancy a cruiser now been looking at kawasaki vn 1500 meanstreak stunning looking cruiser
Brilliant fun video guys….the effort with the Harley made me laugh. The drone looks superb….I have a cheap drone that on the last attempt I had to retrieve from my Walnut tree…..but there again I’m 57 so old man category sits uncomfortably well with me! I love cruisers but find scrapping the pegs is an issue with me because I tend to ride them as I would with a naked or sports bike. Both beautiful machines!
Cruisers look so good but the expense means that I wouldn't buy one but I thoroughly enjoyed a test ride on a Harley Fat Boy I just couldn't afford it! I'm not so keen on the Japanese cruisers which are a little more affordable. Great video
I love cruisers, too, but they are are not practical as commuter bikes that need to navigate high-speed, busy American freeways. The taller German and Italian "plastic" bikes provide far better visibility, agility, and safety. But their aesthetics stink. There is perhaps one exception: the BMW K1600 Bagger, a fine-looking machine with terrific power and safety features. Any chance you guys can review one? Love the channel!
Great vid as always! Totally agree!! Now I've been riding a cruiser for a year now, I dont want any other style bike, is all about the torque!!! oh and I don't know why, but this video isn't listed on my subscriptions page, i don't know if it was uploaded differently? But it says unlisted, hence maybe the low views? Anyway keep up the good work, always enjoy your videos 👍
Hey buddy, glad you like the video, not sure how you have been able to see it as only people with a link are meant to be able to see it. ( it’s not been posted yet in relation to approved the sponsorship in the video) it’ll be uploaded properly soon!
I like all bikes, although I am old and frail so can't ride them all, but I have to say that you have not ridden a cruiser until you have ridden the Ducati XDiavel. I have a 2018 S version which has the stunning looks.(I also have a Harley Dyna)
Gorgeous bikes 👌. To be fair to the Rebel 1100 (and I know it goes away from the ethos of what a true cruiser might be) it does however make this style of bike accessible to those who may have issues with using a clutch - arthritis for example?
I love bikes with a classic look, but I don't like cruisers with their low seats. I prefer a seat that is about the same height as the tank, and mid rear controls. If I can't stand up on the pegs to clear obstacles I don't like it. That's why I prefer what Royal Enfield is doing over anything that Harley has for sale.
Agree with everything you said. Unfortunately I'm only 5'4" but hopefully there is a cruiser out there for me somewhere. I think the Indian Scout Rogue looks better than the Harley Nightster but that's just me.
We’ve got the Nightster coming on Monday! We didn’t know that when we filmed. Indians come up very long in the reach so you need gorilla arms to steer 👍🏼👍🏼
This is one for the old man. I am now a pensioner and I was shocked at the initial weight of the BM compared to my Harley and would need that reverse gear to feel secure. Penny for your thoughts?
Like Darcy said in the video, it feels lighter than his bike even though is 50kg heavier. It’s weight is carried very low and makes it feel lighter on top. With reverse it’s a doddle to move around
Looking forward to a Nightster review sometime! Nice review, both great bikes and yes from my perspective make the bmw louder. More rumble=sexier but still classic regardless. A good demonstration of the benefits of reverse being 55kg going to need one I recon lol. Love cruisers and retro bikes but just starting to learn myself, might be a while before I get there.
This is a great video gentleman, i agree with everything you have said. I do have a Street Bob and i have owned an R18, both wonderful machines that definitely come with a free smile on your face when push that start button. I replaced the R18 with a CVO street Glide which i love to death but i do miss that “no fuss riding” that the huge R18 gives you and of course…….the reverse gear. Oh….it certainly gathers attention from people too. Ive noted the holiday cottage and would love to enquire for a stay perhaps next year with a couple of biker mates. Great video gents….kind regards.
I own a Yamaha XV950 Racer. Before that I used to owna Street Twin and Before that a Hyosung GT650 R, the Yamaha is the only bike that stayed with me for over a year (let alone 2), I have to say I don't see myself ever selling this bike because its just too unique and too beutiful to let go, I only wish it had more than a measly 55 HP, but then again it is still stock, I hope to push it to 70HP some day.
He doesnt understand cos hes old!!! Brilliant....great review as always guys i really do love your reviews they"re always on point & always bang on..the bm is gorgeous in the way its put together but that harley sound🎼🎼🎼....wow....no other manufacturer has ever got that sound its just a classical sound track...i would be happy with either bike but thanks to your review the fat bobs in my top 3 of i want that bike at the moment...keep it up guys #no 1. 🏴🏴 diolch....🏍🛵
So funny at 14:40 with the angle of the handle bars that looks wrong: hearing that I look at the BMW and it looks kind of wrong to me as an old Harley guy 😂🤣😂🤣 ( just kidding) Actually I'd like a quick shifter on my 2021 Heritage and all other Harley cause when you ride let's say for a day your left hand needs to retire!
Great video guys, I also do agree cruiser are the most comfy bikes in my opinion. Out of subject question, are you guys willing to review the Kawasaki z900rs?? t’s a Japanese retro bike too. Cheers and ride safe!
Nice vid. Love the cruisers, indeed. As you know, I have a Triumph Speedmaster, which isn't quite all the way, but is enough cruiser to appreciate all the reasons you love Harleys, the R18 and the like. We're all 'bikers', but the sports bike thing is very different. I understand the 'thrill' of track racing, of course, but sports bikes on a public road? If you're doing it right, you're risking your licence and life, surely? And if you're not, what's the point? I like to ask sports bikers "have you got any good track times?" and when they, almost always, say "I don't take it on a track", that kinda ends the conversation for me, hehe. I've never 'got it'. To counterpoint my own apparently negative comment on sports bikes; *if* you're into bike racing as a sport (on the TV etc) then I totally understand why you'd want a racing style bike! A lot of wanting a cruiser or classic (or any type, I suppose) is the look, style and feel, of course. The difference with a classic or cruiser to me, though, is everything about it is 'usable'. Its purpose, reason and meaning is served every time you get on it. It's a whole and complete 'experience' every time. But for all bikes, as long as they make you grin, then that's good enough, isn't it? And any PTW is a ton more grin-inducing than a car, no?
Yes very good points. We’re not reviewing sports bikes anymore, because I think they encourage reckless riding, and so many other channels push the idea of knee down demonic speed
Yes i agree it is better to have more control on the bike with conventional gear changing. Plus the sound of the twin cruiser. Your fathers twin is'nt a parallel twin but a horizontal or flat twin or also referred to as a boxer engine. Your dog again seems to like your bikes and even the rat does.
Love the looks of the Harley and their air cooled V-twin engine looks great and suits a cruiser. A more modern version for me would be the new Triumph Rocket 3. 🚀🚀🚀
Loud pipes save lives and when you absolutely must impress 2 to 1 accept no substitute ! I like the vamce an hines pro competition 2 to 1 pipes but next time I'll get it in crome that or thunderheaders 2 to 1
Only reason I bought a cruiser was I've had the rest . Head down arse up ace bars cafe racer . Rear sets and clip ons road racer. Flat track style. Trials, Enduro and scrambler. Even a Matchless chair outfit and a couple of Honda 50 step throughs So Criuser was the last in the list. Not quite the torque of a Harley big thumper but still like my 12 year old Vee twin foot forward Vulcan plodder. No ABS, No rev counter just fuel speed and neutral indications. Enough for just a lazy ride.
Should definitely utilise the drone more during the reviews. Not many bike channels use them afaik. Some of the footage is quite impressive, especially the bird’s eye view ones.
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Mods will definitely be done beginning of next year. You guys can review it in the Spring then. We can speak about that nearer the time.

Thats great!

Great video chaps. Been a sports bike guy all my life. Turned 50 and rode a harley fat boy and fell in love with it. Might even be able to keep my license a few more years too. Also ordered a cvo road glide limited which apparently weighs 430kg 🤣
Thanks buddy. Excellent. It’s a great experience. Love the CVO’s
Nicely done, I enjoyed watching this episode very much, thanks lads
Thanks mate 👍🏼👍🏼
Oh man, I do really enjoy this riding style. Have a BMW R18 and a HD Heritage Softail. They are surely my favorite rides. They just offer that true motorcycle experience. Do like the others but for different reasons.
You guy’s do such a good job, really appreciate your style and sharing. Oh, and the drone footage is a great addition. Stay well my brothers! 🤙🏼
Thanks buddy. Yes both awesome bikes. 👍🏼👍🏼
I am 45 and agree with you on the tech of things on a bike. I ride a good old Yamaha xt600e and I would like to buy a second bigger bike but I am put off with all the tech gadgetry. You have interested me in these cruiser type of things
Thanks buddy. Glad it was of use 👍🏼
Yea I felt the weight difference! And less drag! Haha. I doubt our dopey gov will ever change it
If it was me and I had the luck to own that BMW I wouldn’t replace that exhaust at all. It has a really beautiful shape and complements the bike, and with that beautiful location that you live at why would you even need a loud exhaust? I’m sure you can easily hear that engine cruising at those beautiful country lanes…but that is just me and my opinion.
Yes I love the look and sound tbh. A bit louder would be good but not if it means changing the shape 👍🏼
Thanks
Thanks buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
My stunning 2019 Indian Springfield in steel gray and metallic burgundy and I concur. Cruiser Heaven, all day, every day.
Yes indeed 👍🏼👍🏼
I envy you...you have 2 of the best cruisers at your yard! :D (14:30 It would've funny to let your dog choose which one is the best)
Thanks very much! Haha yes 🐾
Lovely countryside in Wales. I thought for half a second you were going to do a burnout without your number plate but was quietly relieved when you didnt of course. Maybe when the honeymoon is long forgotten, lol!
Indeed!
Haha no burnouts 👍🏼👍🏼
As someone who rides a Honda Rebel 500 everyday to work I can tell you I absolutely love it! And in the past I’ve had a Yamaha XS650 Honda CB550 Shadow 1100 a V45 Magna 750 and a Virago 750. And I can safely say only the Magna would’ve spanked my Rebel. All the rest would have lost to this little bike. So it’s got more than enough power for me these days and I really like the modern classic look. But I would NEVER EVER have an Automatic 😴
Anyway Love the video Gentlemen 👍 PS I like the look of the BMW better,Sorry Darcy🤷♂️ and he should leave the pipes alone. I mean it is a BMW!!!
Had a Magna 750 years ago also. With the right tires on it, it was a little beast on the backroads and handled far better than any cruiser should and better than a lot of bikes Ive had since.
@@mochara11 mine was a 1995 Yellow
I love my Japanese cruisers too. Had a virago 750, v-star 1100 and now a m109r. The 9er is my fave. It cab actually haul ass. Found the yamaha's a bit slow
Thanks buddy. Interesting points 👍🏼👍🏼
Yes absolutely agree. We actually rarely watch other motorcycle channels. 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks!
Thanks very much! You’ve hit the nail on the head.
I’m attached to the pipes! Darcy thinks I should change them (for sound
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Well, then, I respect your point of view. Besides, what's that kid even know, anyhow? Hahahaha!
Thanks buddy. Haha yes it’s not easy 👍🏼
Thanks buddy. Haha it’s rejecting the ridiculous number plate!
The drone seems good. We’re going to test it a bit more to find out 👍🏼
For brutal torque I have the Rocket 3 GT - which is the pinnacle of torque.
Yes I get that 👍🏼👍🏼
Yup, I get it. Plus the Rocket is massive and in this instance the Harley is more flickable. ;-)
Yea that’s exactly it. 👍🏼
Thanks buddy. Yes good comparisons 💯
Thanks buddy. Great to hear your experience 👍🏼👍🏼
Need to park my bike in a tight space at home,so a Cruiser is out (too long and heavy). So I stick with my trusty old Yamaha Fazer fzs 600,which I think is a bit of a quiet legend of a bike in itself!
OK yes they are big!
I personally think the fishtail stock exhaust is a selling point of the R18 you can have other exhaust directly from BMW, but I think it's the best looking one.
Yes I agree. I’ve decided not to change it.
I ride a cruiser RE meteor 350, my first bike, almost 140km almost 5 days a week. You know why I prefer a cruiser.
The thing is Darcy many of us older men have done the Noisy motorbikes when we were your age.... I had a Norton with straight through megaphone exhaust on it.... and riding through the streets in Hastings old town must have being crazy for pedestrians.... but then again no one seemed to complain in those days
Both very beautiful Cruiser Motorcycles together. 👍
Thanks buddy 🙏
Always enjoy your videos gents. Keep up the good work!
Great to hear 👍🏼
Ah! The eternal fight between one’s Harley and and an incline lol
Still, you get a professional snooker player’s ability to analyse angles and possible exits and a good workout 👍
Haha yes you have to pick your spot!
Great vid fellas, haha yip having a reverse on a big cruiser would be very handy!
I use drones in most of my vids where I ride to the different beaches, it’s great to show off the coast line here in New Zealand
Cheers 😎
Thanks buddy. Yes indeed 👍🏼
Haha thanks buddy. It seems both bikes can be divisive. 👍🏼👍🏼
Passed my mod 2 unrestricted a couple of days ago. Bike shopping today, despite everyone hating on it, I'm going to be looking at cruisers! The triumph speedmaster 865 is tempting me. All the best, from Yorkshire!
Well done! Good luck with the search 👍🏼👍🏼
The bmw is simply gorgeous. Quality : outstanding
Thanks buddy. Agreed 💯
Excellent video. Completely agree on why cruiser bike 1st choice.
Thanks buddy 💯👍🏼
Thank you guys! Wonderful video.
Thanks very much 👍🏼
I have 2 big bikes a kawasski zzr 1100 and a yamaha fjr 1300 love them both but really fancy a cruiser now been looking at kawasaki vn 1500 meanstreak stunning looking cruiser
I luv my 2012 Road King that I've owned since new. The only downside would be It's weight... At 850 pounds it could defiantly use a reverse.
Yes that’s for sure 👍🏼
Brilliant fun video guys….the effort with the Harley made me laugh. The drone looks superb….I have a cheap drone that on the last attempt I had to retrieve from my Walnut tree…..but there again I’m 57 so old man category sits uncomfortably well with me! I love cruisers but find scrapping the pegs is an issue with me because I tend to ride them as I would with a naked or sports bike. Both beautiful machines!
Thanks buddy. Yikes!
Yes you definitely ride a cruiser with a different mindset 👍🏼
Great video as always with the addition of the awesome drone filming. I love cruisers they are cool 😎
Thanks very much! 🙏
Cruisers look so good but the expense means that I wouldn't buy one but I thoroughly enjoyed a test ride on a Harley Fat Boy I just couldn't afford it! I'm not so keen on the Japanese cruisers which are a little more affordable. Great video
Yes that’s a fair point 👍🏼👍🏼
I love cruisers, too, but they are are not practical as commuter bikes that need to navigate high-speed, busy American freeways. The taller German and Italian "plastic" bikes provide far better visibility, agility, and safety. But their aesthetics stink. There is perhaps one exception: the BMW K1600 Bagger, a fine-looking machine with terrific power and safety features. Any chance you guys can review one? Love the channel!
Excellent! We'd like to but it's proving difficult to get their bikes atm
Yes same.
Unfortunately Ducati aren't interested in ending us bikes so far
@@MrDarcy-OlMan my suggestion is that you borrow one from somewhere because you really have no idea what you are missing. you are welcome to try mine.
I have Indian scout and I am beginner 52 years: perfect bike 👍🇫🇮
Awesome 👍🏼👍🏼
Gorgeous bikes 👌. To be fair to the Rebel 1100 (and I know it goes away from the ethos of what a true cruiser might be) it does however make this style of bike accessible to those who may have issues with using a clutch - arthritis for example?
Oh yes most definitely. We meant to mention that 👍🏼
I love bikes with a classic look, but I don't like cruisers with their low seats. I prefer a seat that is about the same height as the tank, and mid rear controls. If I can't stand up on the pegs to clear obstacles I don't like it. That's why I prefer what Royal Enfield is doing over anything that Harley has for sale.
Fair enough bro. 👍🏼
Imo the R18 should keep the stock exhausts on.. its a lovely rumble and look cool 😎
Yes I (Ol Man) think so too
Agree with everything you said.
I'll get a pet gibbon and I'll go pillion 👍🏻
Thanks buddy. Nightster arriving Monday! We didn’t have it arranged when we filmed this. 👍🏼👍🏼
Do you know what would be good on a cruiser? CRUISE CONTROL..
And maybe heated grips..
Yes that’s useful. 👍🏼
Thanks buddy. Great points. Hop to see you at our holiday let one day
I own a Yamaha XV950 Racer. Before that I used to owna Street Twin and Before that a Hyosung GT650 R, the Yamaha is the only bike that stayed with me for over a year (let alone 2), I have to say I don't see myself ever selling this bike because its just too unique and too beutiful to let go, I only wish it had more than a measly 55 HP, but then again it is still stock, I hope to push it to 70HP some day.
beautiful bikes and good reflection
Summed up perfectly the rationale for cruising.
Thanks buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
He doesnt understand cos hes old!!! Brilliant....great review as always guys i really do love your reviews they"re always on point & always bang on..the bm is gorgeous in the way its put together but that harley sound🎼🎼🎼....wow....no other manufacturer has ever got that sound its just a classical sound track...i would be happy with either bike but thanks to your review the fat bobs in my top 3 of i want that bike at the moment...keep it up guys #no 1. 🏴🏴 diolch....🏍🛵

Something to investigate perhaps 😉
@@MrDarcy-OlMan really fancy triumph speedmaster in red watched ur review what a beautiful bike
So funny at 14:40 with the angle of the handle bars that looks wrong: hearing that I look at the BMW and it looks kind of wrong to me as an old Harley guy 😂🤣😂🤣 ( just kidding)
Actually I'd like a quick shifter on my 2021 Heritage and all other Harley cause when you ride let's say for a day your left hand needs to retire!
The R18 certainly isn’t everyone’s thing 👍🏼

Kawasaki aren’t lending bikes to people like us; they still think people buy magazines!
@@MrDarcy-OlMan hahaha that’s pretty weird, here in Belgium, they don’t think like that anymore. 😅
Both great looking bikes
Thanks buddy yea indeed
Yes i agree it is better to have more control on the bike with conventional gear changing. Plus the sound of the twin cruiser. Your fathers twin is'nt a parallel twin but a horizontal or flat twin or also referred to as a boxer engine. Your dog again seems to like your bikes and even the rat does.
Yes thanks buddy. Good points 👍🏼👍🏼
Love the looks of the Harley and their air cooled V-twin engine looks great and suits a cruiser. A more modern version for me would be the new Triumph Rocket 3. 🚀🚀🚀
Yes indeed my friend 👍🏼👍🏼
Would be good to see a review of the Guzzi V9 Roamer, and how it compares to these
Yea we’d love to but they won’t deliver to us and it’s not worth the 350 mile round trip to get one. We wouldn’t make the petrol money back even

It sure does, I meant to say AI
Your views certainly align with mine. Nice video... 👍

Great job as usual.
Thank you! Cheers!
Even a Matchless chair outfit and a couple of Honda 50 step throughs
So Criuser was the last in the list.
Not quite the torque of a Harley big thumper but still like my 12 year old Vee twin foot forward Vulcan plodder.
No ABS, No rev counter just fuel speed and neutral indications.
Enough for just a lazy ride.
Sounds great buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
Should definitely utilise the drone more during the reviews. Not many bike channels use them afaik. Some of the footage is quite impressive, especially the bird’s eye view ones.
