Darcy and Ol'Man, I bought a 21 First Edition R18 today and traded my Harley. Your review here and and other videos describing the R18 with high praise made me purchase this bike. I agree with everything you said, and as a tall rider myself, this bike fit me very well. I love the bike-it really is that good. I can see now why you bought one over the other options you were considering. Before buying, I was looking at the criticisms of the bike, and was about to pass it up when I watched your vid. I'm glad I watched this a few weeks ago-this bike is great. For those wondering if the cornering clearance is bad or whatever-trust me, its not. Its a wonderful machine. I honestly think its the best cruiser to ride, and look at. Thanks for making me aware of this beautiful bike.

Been rinding Harley several years, and did pre-order Lowrider ST earlier this year, and I was waiting to taking a delivery on this if it was still going to happen this Summer. BUT somehow, the universe was clocked in and unknown willpower made me to test riding a R18 bagger. And I smiled ! What a feeling…that had me to return back to the dealer right next day and took a teat ride again on R18 classic.
      Now I owned one ! 👍👍👍

@@petergrundy8081 I suggest you go ride an R18. I have just today test ridden both the Lowrider S 117 and the R18. I had a Lowrider on order but had not been able to ride one until now (limited demo’s available). I rode both bikes over the same course and I have now changed my mind. I have cancelled my Lowrider order and am now negotiating a 2021 R18. The Lowrider has no LED turn signals, no cruise control, no heated grips, bugger all visibility from the standard mirrors and I found it to be uncomfortable (I’m 6’). The R18 was much more comfortable and felt more planted on the road. Oh, and the R18 can now be purchased in NZ for a better price than the Lowrider.

Honestly, & without sounding like I’m kissing your arse, or pissing in your pocket, but I couldn’t have written a better review! Every single point was spot on, from its deceptively light handling to it’s beautiful chrome exhausts! It’s just perfect in every aspect! I’m the same, absolutely no regrets whatsoever! I just rode mine from my central Victorian home down to Melbourne which is around 100 miles in your language each way, & it was brilliant! Aside from our late autumn, verging on winter type weather here in Australia. Smiled all the way down, dropped the R18 in for its second service, met my son for brunch. Picked the bike up early arvo, cruised back home smiling all the way! Great unbiased OWNER’s review!🤣👍🏼😎🇦🇺

6'4"+ Aussie version of the Ol' Man here, and loving my R18 Deluxe......... purchased after watching many videos, of which I found yours to be the most informative.
No problem with height or leg room (mine has floorboards and heel-shift)

You’ve summed up the R18 very well 😎 it’s a beautiful amazing piece of machinery . I’m a Young fella like yourself and I’ve ridden and owned Many bikes over the years and I cannot remember ever enjoying a bike as much as I do my R18 . From the minute I get on it I’m Smiling and My smile just grows the more I’m riding it and yes it has the torque of a Mack truck and is a pure joy to ride .

I was torn apart between buying an R 18 or a GS Adventure, which I both test rode this week. I realised that my head wants the GS, which is really perfect when it comes to riding. You jump on it, and suddenly you don't just see the asphalted roads as the possible way, you suddenly see every field track and dirt road as equal options, and I immidiately left the road and pushed it over some muddy, slippery farm tracks, and it felt so stable and gave me so much confidence (I'm a beginner who got the license just a year ago). Great fun. Then I tried the R 18, and it was a whole different experience. Focussed back on the normal roads and no thought wasted about going offroad, which was a bit of a bummer, but after a couple of hundred meters I fell in love with the feeling the bike gave me. Like a steam train, with low revs all the time but immense power like a bull anyway, it was eating up the landscape like it never wanted to stop again. The sound, it just put a smile on my face. The feeling of stability and indestructibility - no flimsy plastic parts, that make you think "how will this look after five years being exposed to the sunlight?", just awesome. Long story short, I was really struggling inside which decision I shoud make. Head or heart? Your video convinced me to make my inner child happy and listen to what my heart really desires - the R 18. Thank you for helping! :)

Your reviews always make me smile, love your straight talking to the point comments and no BS attitude , as for your observations on TFT screens etc , I'm with you on this, TFT's are all information overload, all I want to know when out on the bike is how fast I'm going , engine RPM, how much fuel I've got (or not) and what gear I'm in, I don't need multiple modes, mobile phone access or GPS etc, my view is if I wanted to look at a screen I'd stay at home and watch TV.

I love the perspective on TFTs on bikes. I took my R18 Classic hugging the coastline along most of Connecticut last weekend and I enjoyed the view from the bike. The speedometer gets out of your way and allows you to focus on what is beyond the bike. Riding somewhere just to grab a bite where you don’t normally spend time is perfect on the R18. I ended up in a marina with several boats still in dry dock before the season starts and got a lobster roll in northern Connecticut before heading back home south. One key thing to avoid scraping pegs is adjusting the preload correctly. I’ve ridden my R18 quite aggressively well over the limit on twisty roads and haven’t scraped. The one time I did scrape I really tried going thru a roundabout. Friends who left their R18s on the shipping position did scrape easily, so adjust it to your weight & it handles far better than any 800lb bike should!

@@rickyprovalone1913 the windshield is fine. It could be a bit taller for me as I’m 6’3” but it keeps a lot of the cold off my body. I’ve ridden mine down to 20F this past winter. I got the Classic as the screen was easily removable. It will come off in warmer weather as I prefer the look and airflow to keep you cool. I only use windshields on my bikes for cooler weather riding.

Finally, someone that really understands the R18 power plant and how to properly short shift the bike and use it's maximum torque to good effect on curvy roads. Actually being ridden as it should, like a cruiser, not a rice rocket or a sport bike. Gentle on and gentle off of the throttle, riding and accelerating/decelerating SMOOTHLY!

I will not repeat my comments I made on the previous excellent videos by the Ol' Man, and especially on previous one of BMW R18 bike. This is simply great continuation of excellent, normal, intelligent, direct and honest reviews that are very unique in the reviewers world. Thank you very much for all your work. I am not following your channel regularly, nor any other channel, but from time to time I return and see if some bikes you reviewed catch my interest (and BMW R18 always will). Based on your first review I tested the bike myself and the same way like you, I was, and still I am, (completely) caught. Your description that the bike got caught in your head and that it still sat there until you bought it seems very familiar to me :) With one exception, I am still waiting for the right kick but I know it sits there and I will never be able to get the wish to have it, to ride it any time I want, from my head. The only reason I still did not buy it is that I like my Indian Scout (surprisingly the most suitable position for tall guys from all Indian lighter models, i.e. Scout and Chief range) and I still did not decide to invest another money to the second bike. I am fighting with all this in my head more than a year, but I know that one day I will buy it... Thanks for your work for all taller guys out there!

I like the fact the sound is low unless your pushing it as it allows you to be discreet when required but satisfied when rolling on. Having seen your early reviews of this bike and eventually purchasing a Classic based largely on your thoughts, I have absolutely no regrets.
I came from a Harley Fat Bob with which I have no complaints but this bike just did it for me. I love the look of the Harley engine combined with radius exhaust but the look of the boxer engine has also grown on me massively.
I have stripped down my Classic for the look of the FE less the fishtail exhaust and the other week I was out riding round Bala following having flashed the ECU with the BrenTune kit. No big increase in torque or power but now so smooth that five hours in the saddle left me with absolutely no vibration white finger.
Your review of this bike is absolutely on the nail and a great reinforcement of my decision to purchase this machine for exactly the reasons you suggest.
Thank you. Coffee on its way. 😊

Great to see a longer term review, picked mine up from Vines in Guildford a couple of weeks ago having had a Breakout 114 and Street Glide Special. The current deals on the First Edition R18 and R18 Classic are hard to ignore!
Adjusted the rear preload after I got home and it only scraped on my second ride when I wanted it to.
Agree with your review, for me it falls into the category of ‘better than you’ll ever believe but no one will ever believe you’. It looks better in person than in pics and vids and the fit and finish is incredible.

I got the Classic 2 weeks ago (second hand) . Wing and a prayer - I saw the launch on line and was gob smacked. I have only seen one in the flesh from about 50 Meters away in 2 years. Now I have 500km's on it. Its a learning curve but its chill. I am hitting corners at similar speeds to my KTM 790 but I am finding I want to slow down, but the bike is fine the slow down is me. I am not hitting the tell tail on the floorboards (neither did the previous owner). I am really a sailor (racing and Cruising) and I am just starting to understand heavy cruisers. Went into town today 1st & 2nd gear, the throttle response is sooooo smooth - the Honda and KTM are no where near as compliant. This bike is bit of a joy really. Gets up to licence lost speeds fast enough. I have used the reverse and its brilliant, CC is on all my bikes and This also has HSC. Thousands less than a HD. So far very pleased. Yes its art - Industrial art at is finest.

I have just purchased a R18 from Wollaston and traded in an R9T scrambler. I took a test ride before buying and knew straight away that I wanted it? I would suggest that anyone wishing to purchase one knows what they are getting into? You cannot go out with other riders on Sports bikes and expect to keep up? However I have no regrets and find the bike has so many positive aspects particularly the torque delivery! i am getting well over 50mpg which is not a lot less than the R9T I think that your review is on the money!

After recently test-riding an R18 (TC), I agree: it’s really gotten into my head. It’s almost unbelievable how smooth it can be just cruising along, but will then absolutely come alive when the revs go up. The least top-heavy large bike I’ve ever ridden. Now I understand why it’s so long and low. Not having been a cruiser rider, I haven’t been very interested in the R18 or Classic, but am starting to see these two models in a different light after your videos over the past year. Have liked the look of the R18, though, since introduction. Have tried, but just haven’t connected with HD. I’ve had several BMW boxers and the R18 (TC) just feels right to me (except for both turn signals on the left). Glad to see you’re enjoying the most “boxer” BMW boxer ever.

Purchased a ‘23 R18 100 Years Edition, 40 mile ride home and half way there decided to sell my T120 Diamond Edition, seemed to me the R18 was a better Bonneville then the Bonneville. Took the T120 out of winter storage, prepped it to ride, and within 3 miles knew I couldn’t sell it. The R18 and the T120 are different to one another, R18 a true cruiser, the T120 a naked classic. The R18 solid, torque laden, lower, substantially heavier, and, as with the T120diamond, absolutely gorgeous. A rolling piece or art. The T120 nimble, flickable (in comparison), quicker reving, and just plain fun to ride as a relatively lightweight British twin should be. I’m fortunate enough to be able to own both so can’t see selling the T120 any time soon. Not sure that’ll make your decision any easier, the rape occurring at HD dealers will probably put you off to that brand unless you have a high tolerance for financial pain. I strongly suggest you determine what your motorcycling priorities consist of, test ride both the R18 and T120, and come to your own conclusion. If forced to choose I would not part with the R18, it is soooo uniquely different to anything else out there and far superior to any of the 3 Harley Davidsons I’ve owned (BTW I like HD’s). Choose wisely and ride long, hard, and well. Cheers.

I have driver footrests (which would help you old man) as you rest your calfs above the cylinder heads....The R18 is definitely a conversation starter. Some like. Some don't. I am 6'3, 265 lbs and this thing fits me like a glove.
