    The DCT is why I bought my Talon, that and it's a Honda and I trust them. I knew going in that other machines are better at many things, but the Talon is very good over all. Much like my CBR1100XX.

    Great review or update video! I’ve been waiting for a new video from you for awhile! I have a 2020 but I’ve only got about 700 miles on mine! I don’t leave my property very often but I like putting all of the goodies on anyway because I’ll probably keep this machine until I’m dead or it is! Take care 👍👍

    Very Informative as usual,it just helped me figure out the clicking noise I've started hearing when I'm going slow and turning right.Mine is a 2020 R with 1400 miles,only issue so far, had a ground strap come loose at 1300 miles ,diagnostic port read no ecu,so I freaked and took it to dealer, who fixed rather quickly under extended warranty. Glad to see fresh videos from ya.

    The rear bucking can be fixed by softening the rear spring rate or increasing the sag in the rear. Also adding a shim to the rebound stack in the back shocks to slow rebound. I also swapped the 7 weight oil for 10 weight in the back. It slowed the action down about 5% or so. There's a reason trophy trucks squat in the rear. It's to reduce rear bucking. These are no different.

  • @rspielmann51
    @rspielmann51 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Here are some issues with the Honda air filter which cost 150 bucks every time you buy one. cab is dirty and hot, it’s rough and noisy to go back to air filter to get out it has several screws very time consuming. Not only the drive line but also front axle on right side replaced two of them. Went back to Can Am x 3 DS RR turbo. Owned three so far and put on about 4K before I trade them and have never had an issue. I also run it with 15 inch rims on 32 tires with no clutch work have never been through a belt.

    • @gravesru
      @gravesru  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The air filter is $45, and you can go 2,000 miles if you use a particle separator. I’ve never replaced a front axle. The cab is very hot and that’s why many relocate the radiator to the rear. Glad you don’t need belts, it really depends on how they are driven, I’ve seen people go through two belts a day on the racetrack.

    • @650ic6
      @650ic6 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The air filter costs $45 not $150. That said if you stay with the stock setup you will be spending a lot on new filters - every 70 - 150 miles depending on how dusty conditions are.
      I added a particle separator and now only have to change my filter every 2,500 - 3000 miles. I drive on forest Service roads and they are really dusty.

    Great video. My Talon has only 600 miles right now. Question about the front drive shaft. It worries me that it might fail out on trails far away from camp. I watched your video on how you replaced it and you say you carry a spare and change in the field if necessary. The video you made on replacing the shaft didn't look to me like it was something that could be done in the field. Have you come up with a easier way to replace. Perhaps you could do another video on how that was done. Thanks.

    • @gravesru

    Surely one can get away with slow driving and maneuvering on concrete or asphalt… like in a driveway/garage scenario right?? I still have the light stock tires and wheels. After I wash my unit I may also take it on a quarter mile zip in the neighborhood just to dry it off. I appreciate the video

    • @gravesru
      @gravesru  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, for sure. You just want to minimize time on the asphalt. It just puts a lot of strain on the axles and rear differential when turning right or left because one tire will have to spin on the asphalt. If I have to drive on asphalt, I try to put one tire in the gravel on corners when possible.

    good video. nice hearing an honest review. as far as greasing sealed wheal bearings. its a must in some riding scenarios. they come sealed but not waterproof. if you ride in 2 or 3 ft of water alot you should probly repack every once in a while. while im glad your clutch is holding up the power loss percentages you give were provin wrong before the talon was invented. all the machines are at about 20 percent power loss with the main factor being rotating mass.you take a bone stock 1000xp and a bone stock talon which are within 3 or 4 percent hp 90 lbs and the xp has taller heavier tires they run neck and neck with the rzr usually pulling the talon out of the hole and the talon gaining back on the big end. i would guess this has to do with the cvt allowing the rzr to flash(not slip) to peak power out of the hole better and the talon spinning lighter tires.now some showed the tallon being 1 or 2 percent better at first however that was with the factory shorter lighter tires. is there a difference in power loss? sure. mayby 1 or 2 percent however it has little or nothing to do with the respective clutch setups and more to do with drive train beaf and tire weight and size.another thing i would definately watch on the talon is the design on the air box cover. it being after the clean element can allow unfiltered dust by. make sure that lid seals. most brands use the lid as a first line of defense with the filter going inbetween it and the intake.

      the dyno results I'm referring to are bolted onto the hub, so it takes out tire variances. Roller dyno's aren't that accurate and little things can really change the results, like tire size/weight etc.

      @@gravesrua hub dyno is used to keep tire slippage under control. while it would take tire size out of the equation and the rotating mass of said tire out of the equation it is not any more accurate than a tire dyno Apple's to apples. first i have never even heard of a side by side on a hub dyno because tire slippage is not an issue. but ok. anyone that knows anything about dynos knows that a 1 to 1 ratio(high gear) is ideal for best results. this is easy to do with a gear selector . not so much with a cvt. that would be a better argument on the dyno situation. bottom line. at the low power range these things make (105ish crank)and your opinion that the talon is over 10 percent more efficient at using said performance there would be a fairly large difference in performance. simply drag race them in stock setup and a 1000 xp will win almost evertime if traction is good. i suggest this is because of the 90 lbs of weight advantage the xp 1000 has. basically power loss is equal. clutches and drive belts dont really use or waste power unless they are slipping. 99 percent of power loss is rotating mass that they both have litterally the same components driveshafts,wheels,ujoints,gears, differentials,ect.cvt clutches are not disliked or unused because of efficiency. they are disliked because they dont hold up to high horse power, heavy vehicals which side by sides are not. in fact a cvt will flash rpms immediately to the most powerful range of the engine and stay there making them verry efficient. basically a stall. im open to opinions but.....science and stuff. honda makes a good unit . but it takes lots of upgrades to make them underperform against a less expensive canam turbo or polaris turbo. all of these comparisons were made over 5 years ago when the yxz came out with its manual gearbox. it boasted more hp than the other na machines yet did not out perform. i get it. love what you got and thats great. as far as super side by sides go honda made a machine comparible to machines that came out 6 years prior that costs more than late model turbos. add on the suspension abomination and you have a Japanese company that came out late in the sport side by side market swinging for a base hit.is your machine good . yes. is it better than a cheaper turbo canam or polaris. no. does it compare to a much cheaper na rzr or maverick ?yes in power. not in suspension and 4x4 setup. all things can be modified to be better.

      Last stat I saw, only about 3% of the talons have sub trans issues (mostly driver error) and that’s typically caused by the shift gate not being properly adjusted and the gear not properly selected before trying to take off. You just have to make sure the gear is shown on the speedometer before taking off. There will be a dash on the speedometer instead of a H, L or R if it’s not properly in gear.

You are hurting how the vehicle turns and tracks through obstacles. Also moving the mass outward effects the leverage on your rear suspension components.
