    Personally, I think holding control over the PLC would be impossible the moment Charles XII dies.
    If he was smart, he’d solidify an alliance with them and gobble up Prussia directly. A Sweden in control of the Baltic and Northern Germany would be OP, especially if the common Pole or Lithuanian saw them as helpful allies rather than foreign interveners.

    • @kylezdancewicz7346
      @kylezdancewicz7346 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      Especially if you consider the fact that Sweden still doesn’t have that many people. I don’t think a Swedish empire across Germany and into Lithuania could work long term because it would likely just end up fracturing the second a subpar leader takes hold and the empire is put under pressure

    • @anvos658
      @anvos658 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Oh it pretty much is impossible especially in a timeline where Sweden ignores Polish claims to Silesia multiple times. Not to mention Swedish foreign interference would be a lot easier to rally expelling than Russian, given their not even Slavic and in a far worse position to intervene in time to suppress Poland reforming. Meanwhile Sweden has made itself a pariah state, who is dependent on continued Polish support.

    • @Tehkenny1
      @Tehkenny1 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@kylezdancewicz7346 Depends on how long it managed to keep it together. PLC would be a great addition to Sweden as Sweden lacked farmland, with PLC under their control they'd likely solve that problem and their own population could start growing in a signficantly higher pace.

    • @kylezdancewicz7346
      @kylezdancewicz7346 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@Tehkenny1 The PLC isn’t under their control. It’s effectively a puppet that is likely to blow up the second they detect weakness. As a Dane, I will give Sweden this. They had an awesome empire and beat the shit out of us and our "friends". But then on the other hand we did conquer them in 1520, just outright. Sweden ceded to exist because of Denmark. If only we didn't commit a bloodbath against the Swedes in Stockholm, then maybe we could've avoided the genocides against the Danes in Scania. Little problen I have with this timeline: Sweden's millitary was in many ways funded by its warring with Russia, Poland, and to a certain degree Denmark through economic concessions given to Sweden when they won wars. Sweden was simply just not populous enough to support a large military without some sort of outside income. I also dont think Russia would just completely give up on the west, if an opportunity presented itself, they would probably strike against Sweden, especially since Poland was under Sweden in this timeline. For those reasons, even though it pains me to say it, I dont think this Swedish Empire could last more than a few decades before declining and eventually making Sweden a more minor power.

    Carl XII was a great general but ultimately a poor king. He learned like another God of War in the 1800s that Tactical and even Operational successes cannot translate to finalized Strategic success without the use of diplomacy and legitimacy. Had Carl XII played the diplomatic game better, as Gustav Adolf II had, his Empire might have lived instead of rising, and falling, on the battlefield. As it is, he is a hero, though flawed. He needed to be less of a genius and more communicative. He could have won at Poltova but for not communicating his plans better.

      Don't forget that Charles was wounded before the battle of Poltava started, and so he could not participate. He was known to always participate in battle and would often be at the front line. He was Europe's last, true, warrior king. He inspired the troops under his command like no other.
      So, in part, that is why the battle of Poltava went the way it did.
      As Sabaton would say: "Rule was left to lesser men, waiting for their chance". Meaning, the king was not in command of the battle, at least not from a position that mattered.

    I personally believe that the outcome of the Great Nothern War would certainly change the Europen stage forever, but the downfall of the Swedish Empire is inevitable. Due to one simple aspect: population. The Swedish Army during the 18th (and for that part, most of history) was incredibly small compared to other great kingdoms. It would simply not matter if they won every single battle to ever exist. They would run out of soldiers eventually. Which is because of the harsh climate the Swedes had to endure. Difficulties in cultivating food and brutal winters to endure. The Swedish Empire was sadly doomed from the very start.
    Still awesome video! Very interesting to see what could've happened and how despite the severe defeat, a victory was actually feasable.

I'm thinking he could have possibly captured Tsar Peter and forced him to sign a treaty, or just get rid of him entirely. THEN he went to Poland :)
    I mean, the only reason Poltava happened is because Charles underestimated the Russians after Narva, and decided that Poland was the priority.

    There are several criticisms to be made here. Should Charled XII not only live, but win against Russia, seizing territories, there's no telling how that would affect the view on absolutism in Europe. Even France might have avoided the revolution because the Swedish liberty period never influenced their view on, for instance, freedom of the press, etc.

    I don't see why a Swedish empire with a solid foothold in Europe would be unconcerned with the French Revolution when France has been a good friend of ours. Especially not since the savagery of the French revolution unsettled and rallied virtually every monarch in Europe against the revolutionaries in our time already.

    While interesting Sweden isn't a long term Superpower, as the world industrializes, as there just aren't enough Swedes. This one as well pretty much as well just ensures Poland surpasses them eventually, since they've given them more land and time, while still pissing off Poland about giving Silesia to another German twice.
    Then add in the Napoleon problem, given the Swedes have made a mess of Germany and its very easy for Poland to side with France, meaning this is likely a GG WP Franco-Polish Alliance victory.
    Not to mention it would be a far easier sell to convince Poland to back Austria rather than help Prussia, given one of these nations is the bigger problem to Poland.

      Even then Prussia still had to conspire with other nations to remove Poland, which again isn't something Sweden could do, or at least not to the same effect.

      @@anvos658 Language Germans spoke in north regions was closer to Swedish, rather than one Germans used in South.
      Whole "German unity" idea was more of Prussian propaganda thing to make the empire united.
      So Sweden could've pulled put something similar talking about unity of Baltic Germans nations.
      Why can't Sweden do it though? Prussia rose because both France and Britain in big wars gave Prussia money, so they can raise a big army that distracted everyone in Central Europe from the real conflict.

      @@sircatangry5864 The road to Swedish Nationalism of North Germany still sounds a lot harder, and runs into problems of Sweden can't successfully partition Poland, out of existence, which pretty much means any dreams of Sweden remaining a super power die in the Napoleonic Era.

    I would say though, (maybe it doesn’t mean much), but wasn’t Fredrik the great king of Prussia during the 7 years war? I would credit good commanders some victory factor on the battlefield. Napoleon could still do marvels with smaller and worse armies then his opponents. Napoleon said that Fredrik was better then him

    @Videntis.History what if the Scandinavians colonized all of Canada, Alaska and the mainland 48 U.S. states by 793 but instead of being pagan they have created their own church called The Norðr Church? Norðr means North in Old Norse so by 793 the Vikings have a huge chunk of the Americas owning 46.55% of the Americas.
