The DSG (love it or hate it) is a huge performance boost over the manual in Golfs. This is especially true in the Golf R, where the DSG equipped model is absolutely stupid fast from a dig.

GTI Performance 0-60 is 6 secs Clubsport S is 5.8 secs so not a lot in it and Clubsport S doesn't have launch control so is tricky to launch, it requires ESP on which will cut power until at least 3rd gear. Silly drag races are too good for that car, it's all about the corners as the 'ring record confirms.
volkswizard Couldn't have put it any better myself! Clubsport S, is the perfect track day weapon, but a bit out of it's element in off the line drag racing... But that is why VW also has the Golf R ;) Can't go wromg either way

GTI performance DSG real time 0-60 is 5.6 seconds according to my data logger on a flat straight bit of road.

I'd pick the Up! personally. The vast majority of my driving is around suburbs so the Up! is much more suited to traffic light get ways and weaving through gaps.

Totally agree, I would have picked that over my current car in a heartbeat, most of my driving is suburban/city, and my '16 WRX is cool, but I don't really need that much car anymore.

Clubsport S is purely a drivers car made for corners. Love GTI special editions. Ever since MK4 GTI 25 Anniversary Edition.
The Up gti is the only one that will become a future classic.

I drove a clubsport gti and it really accelerate hard , the only annoying thing is that it tend to spin the wheels when launching really hard ..

That Up kinda doesn't deserve the GTI badging, on the 1/4mile i bet a lot of diesel cars can beat it's time, even older cars. I have an Astra 1.9 remapped to 150bhp and i can constantly get 15.9s-16.1s.
The GTI Clubsport is missing..265ps + 25ps e-boost with DSG. The Golf R doesn't much here because of the 4 wheel drive.
The Sub7Up is where it's at.

The Polo is really limited, could be much more powerful by stock..
i had a golf 6 gti dsg but now sold if for an up gti. For me its the better car if you drive on some backroads and want to use the "full" power all the time, with the golf you are faster ilegal :D but with the up you can drive still very quick and you definitly feel the light weight chassie

It's rather hard to choose one.
I love carwow but this video has completely made me question all your other drag races. The polo stock can do 14.2 quarter miles all day long (even your own solo review of it is a second faster) and in the real world is neck and neck with a Golf GTI. My stage 1 polo can do a 13.3 quarter mile and is slightly quicker than a stock S3 / Golf R on a roll from 50mph. I’ll even put my money where my mouth is and you can use my car in a video

Thhe UP GTI is the sportier version of the regular UP. It's meant to be the "spiritual successor" to the mk1 Golf GTI as VW claimed basically lightweight and not a crazy amount of bhp. Not sure how true that really is but it is lightweight like the original mk1 and does produce similar performance to the mk1 GTI. Probably just put in for fun and see how all VW GTIs perform

@@JohnSmith-fe2pz I already own a large sedan. An Up TSI would be perfect for an everyday commuting car (think Golf Mk I). Also, in South Africa most people don't want enormous petrol-guzzling cars like in the USA and certain other parts of the world.
@@chrwl007 2017 ford fiesta ecoboost. Just bought me one. its fast and on eco you can get 4.4l to 100km. And it looks damn good. Leather seats. DRL. Xenons. Fold in mirrors. Automatic stop start, etc.

The crying comment was more aimed at VWSA's utter stupidity and being completely oblivious to what the local VW enthusiasts want. They managed to kill the SEAT brand in SA because they priced it at a premium (yes, more than the equivalent VW model).

Why did they refuse to call the Scirocco 2.0 TSI GTI if they're willing to name the Polo and UP! GTI? I just don't get it.

That isn't the point in any way, read again.
The point is, that they called it just normal 2.0 TSI first, and GTS later because for some reason they didn't want anyone to think it's a GTI, which is kinda odd considering they slap a GTI badge on a 115hp up.
And that UP is in the video and it's quite certainly not dead.
I didn't say the UP was dead, I said who cares why they never named the Scirroco with a GTi badge as THAT car is now dead. A quick google will tell you why it never got a GTi badge.
Nothing wrong with the polo as a GTi. The up is questionable but if VW didn’t want a scirocco as a GTi then they would have their reasons 🤙🏻

Wasn’t a great launch for the CSS, to be honest.
There are some running 13.4-13.6 on the web.
A GTI Performance won’t ever be able to keep up; launch control or not, DSG or manual. It’s all about the launch, and VW manual transmissions are very tricky to launch perfectly (check the Golf R drag races on this channel, they do over 6 seconds on that car and mention this themselves - same transmission on the CSS).
However it’s a great comparison with a very nice intention.

mikecustoms how do you call that being ripped off? The UP! GTI starts from 16 and a half thousand pounds. That’s about 10 grand cheaper than the lowest spec golf GTI. It’s got a hell of a lot more character than any of the other cars, too.
My mistake, it actually starts at just under £14,000. I suppose that just proves my point even more

I actually own a up gti and it's a great car. And its funny to look at the faces of other drivers when you pass them at 200kmph (I live in germany).
Yeah, just don't race people at the lights because it accelerates so slowly.

I wasn’t expecting the UP GTI to win but in all fairness, it lost very badly and if you compare it to the Polo GTI, the Polo has nearly 100 bhp more, than the UP GTI and that’s why it was so far behind the Polo. This is the reason why I believe that, 115bhp is not enough to make it into an hot hatchback, the UP GTI should have between 140-150 bhp.
