  • Inverleith is an affluent area of Edinburgh, home to the Botanical Gardens, Fettes college and some of the finest townhouses in the city.
One of these houses, only known as "Number 17" was said to have be home to a haunting so terrible that many believe the property was demolished due to the terrible events that happened there.

I need to stop watching these so late at night. I lie awake listening to the creaks and groans as my house cools down overnight.

    Thanks for the warning...
I am exceedingly fond of slant ceilinged attic rooms; as long as there are dormer windows.

🥳👍‼️ New Eerie Edinburgh post, that’s brightened the day up! I seem to recall the Barclay Square legend ending with the sailor throwing himself from an upstairs window to escape the terror/ being ejected through the window and him ending up impaled on the wrought iron railings at the front of the property.
    I hope No.17 still stands.
My stepmother used to rent the bridge keepers cottage at Kelso bridge, I’m not going to say ‘sinister or malevolent’ but there was definitely a ‘presence’ in the upstairs bedroom (just kept as a store room) and on the stairs down to the living area. Her dog was always getting weirded-out by goings on in the house.

Oh wow, thanks for sharing. My folks live down that way and i definitely need to learn more about the borders. Was/is it a known haunted location?
You're spot on about Berkeley Square. My school library had a book called "the worlds greatest ghosts", first read the story there and it 100% terrified me!

@@eerieedinburghI don’t know if it’s recorded officially as haunted, you’d need to ask someone from the town. It’s got some good history though, there’s a groove in the top of the bridge wall from where the folks would drag their toll coins along the wall in protest to paying the toll. - you’d reduce the amount of metal in the coin by scuffing it, in theory making it less valuable.
As a ‘postal address’ it’s called Bridge End Cottage, Kelso…….if that helps.
Mellerstane house might have more recorded history 👻?

Great story! I am thoroughly enjoying your creepy tales. My wife and I are planning a trip to the UK in the near future. Scotland is definitely on the itinerary. A colleague and good friend of mine grew up in Edinburgh. Do you know of any really good "Haunted Edinburgh" tours? Looking forward to more of your videos, and of course, visiting your wonderful country in person. Cheers from Canada!

Hello Canada! 👋🏻 thank you for the kind words. So, you have a *lot* of choice in Edinburgh. There are a couple of companies that tour the vaults: Mercat & Auld Reekie tours are both good. I've been on both sets of tours and really enjoyed them. You can also go on the tour in Mary Kings Close, which is an incredible location. I think you have a few more options also for the overground tours down the Royal Mile and old town, but literally spoilt for choice 😊

Great story - love the live action re-enactments. I suspect most big towns and cities have a story of this sort - I recall another youtube station telling a very similar tale about some students and a house in pre-revolutionary Russia, but can't give you any more details.

I remember this story when I was growing up. We were told that it was a woman in the Victorian ages who had given birth to a very disfigured child. The woman was aristocracy and ashamed by the appearance of her son so chained him up and locked him in the attic. Although the child was fed everyday he was never allowed out of the attic and grew to be a man having never known outside the room. When the old lady died, there was no one to feed her son and so he slowly starved to death driven increasingly mad with hunger. The house still stands and is currently being refurbished!

I think the Scottish, having a long tradition of telling ghost stories at Christmas, has each successive story teller trying to outdo the last generation by embellishing until the stories become so macabre that they've lost the sense of realism that makes them scary in the first place.
