EDIT: You will get an extra 20% if you wear the golden scarab talisman and an extra 20% if you use a golden fowl pickled foot before the dragon dies. This still works after patch 1.03!
Have you heard about this insane Elden Ring exploit!? 75,000 runes/souls await you from an easy spot to get that juicy upgrade you needed so much :D ... Thought I might share this cheese/exploit that I found out. If you get in front of the dragon, you will be greeted by at least 10 dragons willing to send you back to where you came from ;D... Enjoy.
WARNING: As this is my first playthrough I am not ensuring any positive or negative influence on your gaming experience later on due to killing that dragon :D I am experimenting and trying stuff out without spoiling myself with guides :)

You forgot something important: Use the golden chicken legs (the thing that give more runes collected, i dont have one anynore and dont remember the name.)
I got 97000 runes this way.
Also, i didnt had enough Dex, so i could not apply the bleeding debuff. So i ended up doing it with my longsword. Took me around an hour and a half. Still worth it!

guys make sure to use your gold pickled fowl foot when you know its about to die. i got 100k runes instead of the 75k.
For the people struggling against the boss you get that curved sword from: If you travel to mistwood ruins you'll hear some howling, some time after if you go to the merchant at the Church of Elleh and ask him about it he'll give you an emote to do at the howling location where a wolfman NPC will drop down and ask you to kill that boss, if you agree you'll be able to summon him inside the boss room and he beats the crap out of the boss.

@@urbanfoxx7512 When you enter the bossroom his gold sign will be there and he should arrive just as the boss is spawning if you run straight to it, make sure to have consumed a Furlcalling Finger Remedy too.
I’m on Xbox what do you clicked to use summons and use your secondary slots I know how to put them in my second pouch or whatever just don’t know how to use it without going to menu

The area where he teleports to with the boss on the stairs got a lot of enemies spaced out. If you are a ranged class you can very easy pick those off one at the time from the mount and they give 1094 each. Farmed 30 levels in a few minutes as a spellcaster. To get teleported there you can head to the Third church of Marika(Place you get a strange flask) and just go a little north and in the lake there is a teleporter.
He is telling the truth, one of the easiest spots. I say if you have a dagger sneak stab and just cast to save some FP.

YOu can also use stealth, i was lvl 20 when I started and took 80% of their HP just needed a few more regulars attacks (They have no poise so you can stagger each hit) or 1 full charge strong (bit more risky but faster) or strong weapon skill (Burning FP/Mana)

For people who need a bleed weapon with really low stat requirements, defeat the first boss and find the claws in godrick's castle. You can bleed out the dragon in around 2 mins. I only had 12 strength and couldn't use the hound blade
Or simply start as a Samurai with a bleed weapon.

@@luda.chrizzle You can get the Uchigatana from the Deathtouched Catacombs which are east of Stormhill castle if you follow the broke bridge or the shacks the enemies there are skeletons but they are really weak and you dont need divine weapons to fully kill Skeletons anymore

@@Voltomess for now trust me I cleared storm castle and got my first great rune around lv 31 and get my ass pawned faster by mobs in the new areas I unlock faster than any named boss especially the crimson rot area I guess it's end game zone or something I fought a mini boss on horseback for a quest items much easier less you get hit it's insta kill lol glad I only invested 20 in hp seeing how one hit from a mob kill me 10 times over just glad It's a quick death don't feel the 8 strikes that come after lmfao
Just in case anyone wondering if this dragon is important to some hidden quest, if it is From Software forgot to make it a protected NPC from phantoms because coop players can attack it freely. I've been farming this spot as a phantom, even if thr dragon is dead I help clear out the fort because the bats inside drop Tier 9 Runes and about 800 - 1k runes per kill.

Me and a friend tried this out and the other bleed weapons work just as well. I used the claws because its more stamina efficient than the curved sword and has a higher bleed value as well. The bleed buildup damage is also 13K. So if anyone is struggling to fight Darriwill, other bleed weapons work fine as well!

For Dariwill use Blade's (NPC Ghost quest) help and it's very simple
Don't forget to use the golden pickled fowl foot to increase the runes gained to about 95k~ You can easily buy 3 of them from Patches if you spare him for 600 runes each.
Fun fact, if you die before the runes go into your inventory, you lose them.
Let's say for example you kill the giant dragon and fall down to be one shotted by one his overzealous friends, you're out 70k runes

Not the case. I killed a boss at the same time he killed me so had no runes but when I went to collect them where I died they were all still there.
Before people actually do this, just letting you all know that this Colossal Dragon is a part of a questline later on in the game. So if you care about the lore and everything, think twice before you kill this boss. However if you only care about runes, do whatever you want to do. Its your game lol. Just don't want people to miss out is all.

You can kill the dragon in your world then do the quest in the other 300K+ players worlds😂 it's infinite amounts of them You just need friends or random on the same page with the dragon still in there world🤟🏾 Your Welcome!

The best farm ive found is abusing jump attack in the Haligtree or spawn in at the Mohgwyn Midpoint and use the starscourge weapon art to wipe that whole mob. you get roughly 20K+ runes in under a minute. Also Mohg gives you 400K runes when you kill him. hes super easy if you do the prep work ( Mohg shackle, the flask mod, and Mimic Summon +10)

@@Sillly-goose if you unlock Mohgwyns palace progress through it and just before his boss door is a checkpoint called the mid point. Right next to it is a large group of mobs. You can kill them however you like but the twin greatswords from Radahn make it super easy because they put them all close and one shot the little guys. Then 1 v 1 the bleed guy rest at grace rinse repeat. For haligtree just killing things there gives alot of runes so I would just use radahns swords and I could 1 shot pretty much all the knights and just keep repeating as necessary. I also lost more runes in there than in the rest of the game so it comes with risks lol
Use a "Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot" right before you kill it for another 10k is runes: item increases Rune drop rate

or the claws / any other bleeding weapon :)
The bloody slash Ash of War grants bleed to your armament as well, although it is limited to swords, axes and something else I can't remember. Bloody Slash is also pretty easy to get if you can handle a mid teir enemy.

@@WinterTM you dont have to use the skill. Once equipped it adds bleed to weapons.
Also the flail is the easiest to do this with. You just hold the button and the flail twirls till you run out of stamina.
If you use a gold fowl foot just before you kill it it goes up to around 90k

How can I get this?
If anyone is having trouble getting that bleed greatsword you can fight a knight in the fort right past the mist woods that gives you an ash of war with bleed affinity. It works on most weapons and gives most greatswords about 50-57 bleed damage

Those guys in that area drop 1094 runes and are easy to kill from the start. You just need to get the Lordsworn Greatsword go there, 2 hand the sword then hit the guys there 4 times to stagger, then critical, then hit 2 more times, dead. Most of the classes can do this from the start or need some minor stat investment. the Astrologist can get away with just blasting them from the start also.
I think I’m part of the few who hasn’t killed the dragon yet I feel he has a secret hidden in those scales.

Yes, it's the golden claw that boosts runes, It works here and boosts the total to 100k runes, Silver claw is for item discovery don't waste it here :)

For the people who don't feel like leveling dex and/or strength for the sword. There is a shield that drops from npc's that also causes blood loss buildup. I did it with the shield now i got this early game so I don't remember where I got it from but it's called Marred Leather Shield, dual hand this and just start attacking.
So equip the shield and take the sword into 2 hands? Or take a shield in 2 hands?

Morning star is also fine, stacking up bleed works with it and you can pick it up in a carriage somewhere in Weeping Peninsula. Along the main road towards Morne.
Quick tip to get even faster to the Bestial Sanctum: north of the Third Chirch site of grace is a hidden teleporter which instantly sends you to the sanctum.
It's like FromSoft wants us to exploit the game right from the beginning :D

I said it in a reply to a comment but should probably put one here too. This has consequences later, the dragon is part of a quest. Your reward for the quest is tied towards one of the trophies. It is honestly not worth it

Farming the mobs on the other side of the bridge will probably new you more exp. In the time it takes to kill the dragon you can kill a few dozen of those little mobs. They give 1094 ox per kill.

You might wanna pop the Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot before the kill. That's 30% more runes on kill, totaling 97500 runes on death (theoretically, haven't tested it.)

By killing the sleeping dragon for 75k glyphs negates the "good" ending. Might want to think twice to make sure it's worth it before you do if you are trying to get it.

There's also a bleeding ash of war you can put on weapons in the south eastern part of limbgrave, just need to kill a knight that uses it in the fort
You can do it a little faster with the dual wield hookclaws, which you can find in the first big room (with the boxes) after you reached the stormveil cliffside bonfire. But be careful there is also an enemy with a halberd sneaking around. 😸❤

The sword was soooo slow and killed my stamina
Please note that this is a bug and can be spammed even today: before the dragon dies you head back to the grace, jump down from horse and touch, make sure to do this before you get the money and heart; then, you will find you get 50k gold, and dragon still alive. Each kill = 50K, easy money.
Preserve the save file before your first attempt with some/program, in case you fail, you can restore the save file and try again, so that not to kill the dragon permanently.

I got here by exploring. I saw the giant dragon and snuck around all the other dragons, using the terrain for cover. Then i found myself behind the giant dragon. I went to the end of the tail and just started hitting him, surprised to see that he wasn't moving. He just yelled a couple times. Easiest 75k I ever made.
I think the yelling buffs the other dragons as he cries out for help or something :D

If you are a Magic build or a build that cant meet str requirements GET THE HOOKCLAWS. It takes a fraction of the time. You can literally beat the first boss go to the location of the claws level yourself to get 14 dex and be good. I tried doing this before with magic and weapons and couldnt even see my damage after about 100 hits of melee and using all of my 5 magic flask. The hookclaws took me less than 5 minutes

You can just get Reduvia (It's a dagger) Which needs 5str, 13dex, and 13 arcane to use. This has bloodloss. Can get it near the start of the game if you go north in the river where the bridge by the dragon is. You will get "invaded" by an NPC. Kill them, get dagger. The bloodloss buildup scales with Arcane.

Another tip, you can buy some golden pickled fowl feet from patches if you spared him for 600 runes so get one of those and just before the dragon is about to die, eat it and you will get 100k runes rather than 75k.

commenting to say it works and its worth it. from level 18 to lvl 35 in 10 minutes. i quickly watched a uchigatana guide(takes 2 min) and had to use some runes on 15 dex. worth

@Xzkutor if you have a few friends each person has the dragon in their world so everytime you summon each person gets 75k...you can even go as far just to make a quick throw away character and have it done in less then 20 mins! this def getting fixed in some way.
For those that want a bleed weapon with super super low requirements. Look up how to get the “Morning Star” in Elden ring on TH-cam. It is extremely easy, no boss fight or anything just a world pick up and it only requires 12 strength and 8 dex to use. It has a bleed of 50. It is the weapon I used to kill the dragon. Killed him in a couple minutes.

@@xLionsxxSmithyx The purpose of the morning star is to simply have a bleed weapon. Any bleed weapon will suffice for the task of just killing the dragon. The morning star is the lowest requirement as well as fastest to get so that you can kill the dragon literally as soon as you start the game.
SPOILER FOR DRGON HERAT USAGE
You use them for these crazy dragon incantations from network test. Go to South East from start of the game. Find the cave, kill the boss and go through it. You find yourself on the island. There is the shrine where you can pick one incantation per heart. You're welcome ^^

A suggestion is if you are able to kill the dragons in the area around him they are weakened and great runes like 5500 per each one, once you kill the big dragon the weakened ones will no longer respawn.

They hit like an absolute truck, though. Unless you have like 25+ vigor you'll get oneshot by them.
Some advice…vigor is important yes. But vitality and getting your endurance up can save your life with less vigor. Also give you cooler armor options depending on your build. Vitality on armor is the stat that keeps you from getting one shot. Robust is best for pvp as its for bleeding and frost. Immunity is more for poison and rot so the best things to concentrate on besides damage negation stats are high vitality as first priority and then robustness as both apply for pvp and pve poison is annoying but typically will only see in pve. Bleed and frost are

@@TengouX Luckily I was running str build and using hit and run tactics with the horse with a giant weapon doing decent damage :). Though I still died my fair share of times, but the runes were worth it.
Don't forget to get the golden scarab and golden chicken foot thing to boost your exp gain by 50%. These exploits you can only do once so don't waste it.

I farm the 4 guys that spawn near the bonfire that's right next to the dragon bridge, 1094 runes each. They are spaced out & have dumb AI where they slowly run straight at you. 20 int mage, they die with 10 casts of pebble, if ur melee you can sneak/backstab them. Just gotta be careful cause they easily 1 shot lowbies, since they deal 500+ damage per hit.

Yeah as a melee I go up and around toward the arch angel bird thing, and come back down the other side. By the time I have to respawn them I get about 12-15k runes in about 5 min ish. Definitely a great farm! Anyone got any others?

If you go to the third church of marika you can follow the water to the right from the main entrance and there is a portal thing there on the right in the bushes that will take you directly to the door he walked out of at the beginning and that teleportor to my knowlege is available at level 1
You can reach 100k runes every 30min. Just need to avoid a trap ball neer a checkpint and you gain 1950 runes every 20sec.

From what people are saying this dragon is part of a late game quest, so if you do this early youll miss out since the dragon doesnt respawn

Poison it once it's health is low and wait at sight of grace. As soon as it dies rest and it will respawn and give runes.

That giant guard at the door (it's not actually a boss) is actually 100% passive even if you're right next to him. It might require an invitation to the location from the table of lost grace first. So you can go right down the steps easily and not get attacked. Even if he was hostile by the time you go past him you're well on your way anyway.

The flail you get from the first camp is a bleed weapon also
If you dont want to go through the trouble of fighting bloodhound for a bleed weapon, you can fight the boss at the top of Fort Haight and she drops the Ash of War for Blood Slash. You can throw it on almost any weapon and if you get a duplication ash you can throw it on two weapons and dual wield weapons with blood loss build up. If you pair that with weapons that have fast attacking powerstancing such as Daggers or Twinblades. Then I assume you should be able to proc Hemmorage like crazy!!!

If you're wanting to do this I'd hurry up because I think they are decreasing the rune drop amount. I did it today and only got 50k
a lot of people said that they got less runes and some got more by popping the fowl foot before the dragon dies. not sure though why people got less tbh

Hookclaws are also super effective for bleed damage and require less stats to weild. Took 16 hits for me to get the bleed effect.
And here I fought against it normally.
I guess I broke a chair, a headset and my hip unneccesary.

Works great even without the blood loss weapon, it just takes longer to kill this dragon
exactly, it basically just speeds up the process since you're pretty weak at the beginning of the game for that kind of healthbar :)

If you use the 4 fingered golden claw for extra runes and the talisman that increases runes by 20% then you'll get closer to 100k runes from this dragon.
I would recommend using a golden fowl foot item to increase your rune gains before killing this dude

I used Chainlink flail for this since you can use it's ability without FP and it's bleed. Honestly a great weapon

if you dont have a bleed you can use a poison oil or scartlet rot grease. also you can use that item that increases rune aquisition for about 20k more runes.
You use the dragon heart to buy dragon spells at the island near the start of the game just go through the coastal cave

I'd say I'm almost mid-way through the game, have a bunch of npc quests on-going, and a couple done at this point, and that dragon has nothing to do with any of them so far.
It will also fast if you get down from your horse and use your bleeding weapon with both hands for the extra dmg. Also, there a flask that boost your str(10) stats for 3mins. Use it to finish the dragon quicker.
yeah I was lazy and the spot I was standing on had me deflect from the surface so I decided to sit on the horsey :D
If you have a friend, you can get like 180k runes if you go to his/her world and vice versa.
Also, you can repeat this if your friend save his file on the ps4/ps5 cloud.
So basically: your friend make a save in the cloud > you get summoned > kill the dragon > your friend back up his save > hence and repeat > profit.

"Souls" noob here. Wtf am I supposed to be doing? I've been exploring since I bought it yesterday, killing, dieing, leveling but what's the point? Where do I find the story?
The bonfires that point in a direction are telling you where to go for the “main” story
it can be overwhelming at first, good luck on your journey. as braeden said, follow the yellow trails seen on your map for a more lineal approach to the game. some people like to explore more off the trail and do optional stuff :) feel free to do everything :)
It's still working as of 2-27-2022 I did it with the razor claw things. Took me maybe a couple minutes
Im really wondering if this gives any consequence for later in the game since the dragon doesn’t respawn and doesn’t have a boss bar. I have a feeling we might interact with it at some point or another so i don’t know if i will kill it just yet.

The little enemies in the area are good for farming too. Each one drops 1k runes. I went here early on and snagged the checkpoint. If you need any help just message me on Xbox. Gt: Radjoy

@@yehta7933 Yup. Found that out last night. Got a saw blade halberd/polearm from one. It's nice, but I already had a mace/flail from earlier that I prefer due to its speed.
Those lil mofo's can be tough though. I spent around 30 minutes of the end of yesterday's play time fighting just _one._ Kept going back and forth from him to a grace nearby and leveling as I went. Jumped from 19-24 in that time period.
Riding in a very tight circle around him while spinning my flail worked best for me. Gotta watch out for that yellow spell thingy they pop now and then though. One shot me every time as a confessor.

Well, I can't even call it exploit in terms of Dark Souls. In ds3 you can fly and shoot at other players from above using teardrop glitch. And in ds1 you can kill 2 bosses without fighting and it's considered perfectly fine.

The dragon IS related to something story based later in the game BTW. There is a quest and a spell reward for it related to it.

@@Dave_ja_vu you can do both :) Souls games are made to be played multiple times to get all the rewards, I killed it this time for the easy runes early game, next playthrough with this character ill leave it alive

If you equip the Gold Scarab Talisman, and use a Gold-Pickled Flow Foot (yes they stack) then kill the dragon, it'll net you 116k. ;)

I would try it as that's what I'm playing as but I'm loving the flail with the bleed damage too much
