14:06 I bought one a while ago and haven’t noticed much of a difference between min and max. My personal assumption is that the auto rotating and auto advancing were optimized for writing the Japanese characters as the pencil is made in Japan. Japanese characters are made up of many short and relatively evenly length lines, unlike in English where the length of different letters especially upper vs lowercase is probably enough to throw off the auto advancing / rotating feature and make it less noticeable. Personally I tend to write in a cursive-esque hand, (it’s quite sloppy and shifts in and out of printing) but because of this cursive especially lengthens the lines to the point where I the automated features become unnoticeable as they fail to keep up.(The auto advancing / rotating features are per stroke making this pencil not much better than a normal mechanical pencil when sketching, because the strokes are often so long in art you can set the pencil down once and by the time you pick it up the lead is quite dull and much shorter than when you started.) I mention this because art tends to be the weak spot of most mechanical pencils, and makes the biggest difference on the efficacy of the automated features.
But that’s just my theory as to why I personally don’t notice the automated features while writing

I fw this pencil heavy, my main mechanical pencil for sure. The min max setting should be adjusted based on lead hardness. Soft lead should be around max setting, whereas harder lead should be near min. Considering that I use HB, I have noticed that using it on max tends to have the lead stick out a bit longer compared to on min. I was surprisingly able to get it for $50 in March. Months later for it go up in price to around $100.

I think they didn't expect the demand to be so high so supply is much lower than demand, especially outside of Japan.

The dive has the regular Kura toga engine, which is fine I have one in the same color as you. I agree it’s a great pencil has a lot of pen like features my only wish is that they come out with another generation with the advanced engine

Oh, and I wish it had the weighted front end just like the current toga advanced upgrade has. Next to all that I agree this is a really great pencil and I think it has a longer service life ahead of it😊

A mathie I see. :) I have a ton of grad credits in stats and I'm serving as Assessment Coordinator for our department. ;) My brain interpretation is different and those differences are well documented in neurological literature. It is ok that you see it as green. It is ok that I interpret it differently.

I’m using the uni kuru toga dive for writing out an entire copy of the Psalms (up to Psalm 23 now).
The min/max adjustment is to do with how quick it will auto extend the lead, it does not change the rotation speed of the lead.
The adjustment is not a gimmick and does make a big difference when spending 1-3 hours writing out a copy of one of the Pslams. If it’s set too low then you will need to click to extend the lead, if it’s set too high then your lead will extend too quickly and become too long and break.
The auto extension of lead does not happen in gradual steps with each pressing down on paper. What happens is the lead wears down and only extend in one full click when the auto extend clutch has made a full rotation.
The min/max adjustment is more to do with the hardness/softness of the lead being used. Hard lead (H leads) wear down slower. Soft lead (B leads) wear down quicker. And handwriting style. I write in upper case and so it rotates faster because I am making more individual contact presses on the paper. So adjusting the auto extension to match the type of lead and handwriting style is important to be able to enjoy the auto extension feature.

I’m pretty sure the min/max setting on the pencil tip is responsible for how much lead is automatically advanced beyond the sleeve when you uncap the pencil, not how much the lead rotates per stroke. If you cap the pencil with the lead fully retracted, uncapping it should extend the lead beyond the sleeve slightly; to varying lengths based on that min/max setting.

I actually have one of the first ones that came oout. Its a lighter shade of blue. I use every now and then. I do hope a black one is released.

you should try (if you haven't yet) the kuru toga metal! it has the nib damper feature, which the dive does not!

I do not think an $85 mechanical pencil is the direction for me. I am so happy with my two Kuru Togas. $12 each. I adore the 2B lead you reviewed years ago. Revisit? Thanks Michael.

Hi Clutch Situation, sorry to say Professor but this color is not cobalt blue. Sea green is more fitting. Somehow the shape and the rich green color remind me of the insulin needles that my father used. Uni Ball Dive looks hi end.

When you press the button does the lead rotate and does the lead sleeve rotate?

What kind of graphic paper is that? I have been looking for a graphic paper where a square is subdivide into 4 equal parts. Or in other ways the lines of the graph paper alternate between dark lines and light lines.

I was wondering if the kurutoga dive that's selling on Alibaba is the same as the Uniball one or made cheaper. Because it's not sold anywhere else due to it being a limited item

It's not brain effect. It is white balance of camera. From video, It is blue to my current brain.

I agree with you that different colors can also look different when photographed by a camera. What I'm talking about is differences in color interpretation when people see the same color under the same lighting condition and come to different conclusions on the color. It is brain effect and well-established in neurological literature. This is just one example of a widely explained phenomenon: www.nih.gov/news-events/news-releases/envision-color-activity-patterns-brain-are-specific-color-you-see#:~:text=The%20brain%20uses%20light%20signals,that%20is%20not%20well%20understood.

I dont like the tip brushing against the paper. The auto advancing feels like just a gimmick

I've had one for about a month now. I like it, but I don't love it. The kuru engine is just not for me, and the weight madness it seem low quality.
