correction about the kurutoga mechanism 🤓: the advance (or w-speed or double speed) engine is featured in the- kurutoga pipe slide, kt advance, kt advance upgrade the dive, KS, alpha gel switch, (new) metal, all have the kurutoga KS mechanism, in which the rotating piece is towards the butt of the pencil, to reduce tip wobble. i believe all other kurutogas have the basic rotating mechanism (including the roulette)

This video triggered my Gear Acquisition Syndrome. Instead of buying only 1 mechanical pencil, I ended up buying 3 pencils which happens to be on the list and I don't even use mechanical pencils.
I own 5 pencils and they were all on the list. Had them all a few years and all going strong. Rotring 600, 2 x Staedtler 925 (1full metal&1plastic), Graphgear 1000 and the base Uni Kuru Toga. After watching this I'm going to buy another😁
Same here, definitely my favorite for 0.5 and 0.7mm. Recently I've really enjoyed my Staedtler 925-35 "All-Black" 2.0mm lead holder, really similar feel as the Rotring 600 but at the 2.0mm size!

I've had Pentel Kerrys for maybe 40 years. Red for 0.5 and Blue for 0.7. Far and away my favorite writing instruments. Great video. I may need to give that Rotring 600 a try.

And yup ..I knew it ... nothing beats the Rotring 600 (except the 800 :) ) ... it is simply the feeling of super quality and outstanding "Feel". It is strange every time I pick another pencil I think to myself ... how does this compare to the 600? And every single time ... the 600 "feel" wins ... It is what it is.

Yet even being a much simpler "design" the feel of the 600 while writing is amazing. Oh, and I voted for the 600 first, then the Orenz Nero, Kerry ... Great pencils.

I have 3 Pentel Graph Gear 1000 pencils in different lead thickness, my favorite (did not see your poll). All of them seem to have higher rubber nibs than the yellow one that you showed in this video. The other pencils looked nice as well. I like Rotrings too.
As a true American, I want to state my opinion without actually voting: My favorite is the Pentel Quicker Clicker, in .5 mm. Lately, I have been using Alvin's Draftmatic in 0.9 mm lately for work notes though (and would like to say how disappointed I am that they messed with the color and knurling of that fine pencil).

And then we also have the "superstar" pencil Rotring 600 which breaks this bias, making it the true "best value" mechanical pencil. I have one question for people who participated in the voting as I missed it. Did you get to choose only one pencil out of the options or was it like you had to make your own top 10 list? I think the later approach would be even more interesting to see.
I like the rotring 800. The problem with the 600 is the tip can get bended and stop working. It’s also nice to retract it so. Its more comfortable in the pocket. It’d be nice if it was closer to $30.
I feel like, functionally, all this does is demonstrate the comparative ubiquity of models. I certainly haven't tried out all the pencils on the left list. And the ones I *have* tried are almost all in the list on the right. I trust the Spoke 6 is probably incredible, but I don't own one and have never even seen one in the wild. But I have two Pentel Sharp Kerrys in the pen mug on my desk and another one lives at my office.
Pilot Dr Grip or Pentel Twist Erase III for long writing sessions or school. For edc ,note taking, short writing sessions, Pentel Kerry . For non stop writing, Pentel Orenz Nero or Orenz metal grip, Going funcy, Kaweco Special in Red or blue color.Going more funcy, Kaweco Special Brass. Those are the best for writing.
lets go my pentel gg 500 is on the list its been 6 year and its still going strong but my all time fav is tombow mono zero(not one or shaker) its dirt cheap and ergo is so good and thicc long eraser unfortunately its been discontinued but there is a newer pencil comes close monograph fine but its quite more than 3 usd for the zero
A great choice. When I lost my black Rotring 600 in .9mm and couldn't find another (still haven't found another), I picked up a 500 and it was a revelation that such an inexpensive pencil could feel so right in my hand.

Try Pilot Neox B,. I was only using Ain Stein 2B for many yearsm but after trying Neox, I never looked back. They perform better for both writing and drawing.
The thing that's complete crap about all these mechanical pencil is that YES it's comfortable, YES it writes amazingly, BUT NO THEY COULDN'T MAKE THE ERASER AND LARGER THAN A GRAIN OF SAND!! And once that nub of an eraser is worn out in less than 2 days it is so hard to pry the damn thing out.
I get the impression that most of the voters love mechanical pencils but perhaps don't use them extensively like say an engineering or math student would do all day.

My no1 for writing is Pentel Kerry and for sketching the Pentel Graphgear 500 0.5mm. My most used pencils ever.

Uni kuru toga advance is definitely the best one, the only reason it's not first place it's because 600 is more known.
