- The Nintendo Switch has been getting a ton of third party controllers since it released and today we are looking at the most expensive pro controller replacement I've seen so far with the Fusion PowerA controller. Is it worth the price tag?

$100 and they don't even have standard rumble. Weights? Instant fail on their part. For $100 it needed to have every feature of the Pro Controller plus additional ones to justify the $30 premium.
That's the whole reason I was watching. I dont get why these companies even make these things without rumble. NFC isnt a selling point for me but its still ridiculous a 100 dollar controller that doesnt have all the features that the Nintendo pro does thats 40 bucks cheaper lol. Ill stick with the Nintendo ones.
Agree 100%.
No rumble these days is like releasing a controller with no right stick or d pad 😂😂.
Most probably because they can't get the same HD rumble like the official controllers.
Yep, the only way I would pay more for a 3rd Party controller is if it had all the features plus the customization, paddles, etc.
8BitDo makes fantastic 3rd party controllers that retail for $50 or less; they lack a few things like HD rumble (but include regular rumble) and NFC but arguably have a better form factor than 1st party and other features.
@@tldr365 Most games don't take advantage of HD rumble.
They could have included regular rumble, like 8BitDo controllers.
I kinda feel the price of those weights could have just been used to buy rumble motors
Maybe
Nope. No rumble=no sale for me. There is no excuse to not have a rumble feature in a $100 controller. Do better PowerA
Yeah except you actually get a controller with good backs paddles. Nitendos switch controllers with the back buttons fucking suck in comparison.
@@rickshiandmoku4128 You are wrong.
I will say I haven’t used rumble since the 360. I always turn it off. That said, I wouldn’t spend this much on a controller.

@Jenny Melo I'm willing to take the heat from something this controversial. Tell me. Name one 3rd party controller that is officially licensed by Nintendo, and has any form of rumble.
8Bitdo controllers are not officially licensed btw. I made that embarrassing mistake when I had the same argument with another individual when they brought this conspiracy to light.
100 dollars for no rumble, no amiibo scanner, wobbling button... Nah, I'll just stick with my official procon 🥴
I swear. If you ask me this controller is literally a scam for taking away actual switch features for an... What complex controller that's outdated innocence of not having any of the features the switch pro controller has been slapping a healthy price on it as if that justifies it.
Same tbh. I got third party joy cons that have more features than this controller. (KIVOCA C25 joypad joy cons)

@@Rayutomoto heck noone gives a crap for the amiibo scanner i could do away with that since i would never use it and im sure most people wouldn't either but rumble? seriously rumble has been a thing in controllers since the i wanna say gamecube era, not sure if either the 64, PS1 or saturn featured controllers with rumble, but at least they have existed since the gamecube
I'd pass on the actual Pro controller. They don't have remappable buttons
Would rather buy a Pro controller and an eshop card for that money
I stick with 8bitdo.. would feel pretty dirty spending this much on a Power A controller
Pro 2 is incredible, love it, bought a second.
Exactly what I was thinking.
I mean I would spend that much, but it’s so easily out done by cheaper controller and Power A isn’t exactly a luxury kind of brand to begin with. They’re pretending their Camery is worth the Lexus ES 350 price.
@@fmccloud I have never used a Power A better than the Pro 2 but I'd love to be informed of a better product. I have a bad habit of collecting controllers lol

No NFC and no rumble is a dealbreaker for me. Too bad coz I like the look of it.
Are there any 3rd party controllers with NFC? Even 8bitdo doesnt have that! I feel like Nintendo might have patent's over "Amiibo" support but I don't know for sure, Ive just never come across one with it yet.
@@martincoburn6522 there’s a pink one by the same company that does the pink kitty controllers that has NFC actually
About the switch 'wake up' from the controller, what other third party controllers pulled this off?
No Gyro either
I really appreciate how in-depth your reviews are, Spawn. They are invaluable.
The official Switch Pro controller that I bought at launch has never let me down since then, and aside from the dpad and Y B X A buttons being too raised for my taste I can't fault it. It also can be found for less than the RRP on some websites. How a company can have the audacity to charge so much for such an average product is beyond me. This should be half the price, no way is it a premium controller. False marketing at its worst.
The instant you said no rumble, it got a no from me for that price. The 8-bit Do is less than half the price (even a quarter if you catch it on sale).
Don't trust powerA with durability on their controllers. My gamecube ones either stop working or get drift issues within a couple of months.
Never had an issue with any PowerA controller they’re all great

Seems like 8bitdo continues to be the king of third party controllers
Though I do like that 8bitdo does offer alternatives as far as controller designs for the Switch, I'm surprised that they haven't released their own version of the Xbox/Pro Controller layout yet.
For a person like me who uses the 2 macro buttons on their current Power A controller this would be useful as hell. DOOM 2016 and DOOM Eternal on Switch is FANTASTIC when you got the macros set to jump and melee without having to lift off the right stick or press it in yourself.
Edit: no rumble or NFC? I'm good with that, I rarely use those 2 things anyway
Honestly I find the controller to be very nice! It’s definitely nice having the extra buttons for fighting games, and although it lacks rumble, I find it to be very good! I can do with or without rumble, since I tend to turn off rumble features in games. I believe I bought it on sale for around $60 so it was a definite steal.
nice, it's been a while since the last controller dissection

No 3rd party official controllers have rumble. Doesn’t excuse it. A lot of cash for a controller that’s missing out on key features.
I actually have a $25 cheapo that has rumble AND nfc. It can be done, they're just greedy.
The kitty controllers have rumble and they’re literally $30 or less
8bitdo controllers do have rumble
@@KassandraQuiseng yes! And they can wake the Switch!
It definitely excuses it! The fact they're an official Nintendo 3rd party licensee prevents them from having rumble in any controller definitely excuses them!
This is easily the best controller out there for Switch!
I don't know how you guys feel about the official pro controller but that controller blew me away! I feel Nintendo did an amazing job, it's my 2nd favorite controller behind the Xbox One Elite. I think while it was a nice try by Power A, the official is really hard to beat.
Lol, lot of complaining in the comments, but if you don't care about the rumble, this is by far the nicest feeling switch controller on the market. I own most of the major controllers, and this feels nicer than even the ps5 and xbox series controllers. I just use it for smash and it's perfect for that. Really just comes down to if you have 100 to burn or not.
I agree with your comment 100% I do wish Nintendo would let officially licensed controllers use there HD Rumble technology as far as standard rumble I could care less it doesn't have it. This is a very well made and comfortable controller my favorite when my Switch is connected to the TV but it is overpriced like a lot of things these days.
I actually bought two of these. I love this controller. It is all about comfort. I couldn't care less about rumble so that is not a detractor for me. I am very particular about controllers. If it is not comfortable, I just can't use it. That is why I sold my PS5. I found the dual sense controller to be very uncomfortable. But back to this guy... It just feels right in my hands. It is a little thicker in the handles; particularly near the top. It is a subtle difference from the Nintendo Pro controller but one you will notice immediately. It does feel like you are holding a premium product. It isn't just the packaging. It is a good feel. Being a huge fan of the xbox controller, I love the concave, xbox style sticks as well.
I would say that if you are a fan of the xbox controller (elite or stock), you would like this one.
The 1st party Switch pro controller is the best controller I ever owned/used. The only things I would change are the +/- buttons. Other than that its perfect to me.
Looks to me from the moulding that they planned to put rumble in as there’s little notches for the rumble motor axel which is even worse cause that says they’ve tried to cost cut on a £100 controller. I’m like you where I only really need 2 back paddles so the pro 2 is a much better option I mean you could buy 3 8bitdo pro 2 controllers or a official pro controller and a pro2 for the same money
They didn't try to "cost cut" anything. As a licensee of Nintendo, it's in their contract that they can not put any rumble in any of their controllers.
The PowerA Fusion Pro is easily the best controller out there for the Switch!
And all three of those 8bitdo controllers will die before this one does
@@MrImOriginal nah I have some 8bitdo controllers that are 6 years old probably have a few thousand hours of play on them and work like new
The deal breaker for me on this controller is a lack of HD Rumble or any rumble at all. For something that cost more than the first party controller and lacks one of the defining features of it makes me just sticking with the Pro Controller.
I'm kinda disappointed you didn't show the D-pad contact points on the board. That would tell us how accurate the d-pad may be and what method they are using on the PCB.
Form now on, when you take apart controllers for review, can you remove the D-pad membrane so we can see the contact points and how they are designed?
Thanks
8bitdo has the best dpad.
@@ninetendopesaitama2107 no 8bitdo may have a d-pad that's really good but there are other d-pads that are just as good and it comes down to personal preference whether or not you prefer one or the other for example the Wii u pro controller I actually thought that controller was perfect except for the fact it's missing motion controls and I personally don't like Xbox shape but if you like Xbox shape it's perfect also the sticks are in a slightly weird place so yeah. I think that a big dudes controller is just as Worthy and it comes down to personal preference which one you prefer.
I doubt the PCB was the problem with the Switch Pro Controller, because that design is very similar to other controllers that have functional D-pads, and it's possible to fix the misinputs by simply raising the pivot or using a replacement of the right shape.
@@bland9876 i think the hori fighting commander dpad is very good. Its the same dpad as the hori Pokken controller.
@@Scarftail the famous misinputs. ;) The other version of its the controllers fault /im not used to it blabla.
The Contender controller that's only like $30 has rumble, can wake up the Switch, a turbo button, and has amiibo support. I think it's a weird controller, but I legitimately has all that, even if it's otherwise still a $30 controller in feel, so idk what the issue is with these other manufacturers. I think they're just being cheap
I’ve said this on multiple reviews of this controller. It’s made for competitive First Person Shooters. That’s why the rumble motors were sacrificed and why it has the headphone jack. Most people who play competitive shooters prefer to have the controller plugged in (for response time) which makes the headphone jack useful. Also most people who play competitive shooters turn off the rumbles, as it is considered distracting (same as motion blur). So I understand the choices Power A made here. The only issue I have with this controller is the simple fact that if you are playing a competitive FPS it is not going to be on the switch lol. I guess it’s for that 1% who play apex on switch? Also could be decent for Rogue Company and fort night?
Good points. FPS considerations for sure.
Yes yes yes
Finally someone who could explain why this controller is built this way
What fps is even in switch!!!
@@chrishern-yu5cf rogue company, apex, over watch, warface, doom, borderlands, crysis, Rico the list goes on your def sleeping on the switch I have a ps5 and play apex on there and I’ve still managed to poor 200+ hours into the switch version and I bought this controller and I love it I was having a issue with the left analog stick but it stopped out of no where and the controller is the best I’ve ever touched.
That cable is pretty cool I guess
I hate the back triggers with that design of the triangle tip, Im the type where I sit my fingers at the back and after time they poke into them
I love strong rumble feelings. I barely notice when it's weak and I'm kinda annoyed with Rumble in the Switch, cause they nerfed the rumble really early on in one of the updates without creating a settings option for it in the system settings so I almost never notice the rumble anymore when I get engrossed in a game anyways. Like, I know the intense rumble can break immersion, but when I get immersed and don't even notice it, it ceases to be a feature anyways.
Definitely won't pick this up without rumble, I just wanted to share my disappointment with the HD rumble, especially in the pro controllers (I can still notice it a bit with the joycon, but I need a dpad)
I like how Mario Odyssey had three rumble settings. Medium was perfect for me. Not sure how many games do that, even though it should be in system settings to begin with. But I actually love the standard joycon holder, it feels really comfortable, especially since I play handheld so much. Going from the Switch Lite first to a regular Switch had a ton of great enhancements but I'll never get used to not using the Lite's amazing d-pad
I once bought a third Party Controller from Amazon for 25 bucks. I was amazed by the good Motion Controls and the Rumble feature. It felt a little bit cheap when playing with it because of the plastic but it had everything i wanted (except Amibo). I used it when playing Bayonetta 1 and 2 in tabletop Mode at 1 am instead of sleeping
I was sold the moment Spanwave mentioned that the controller uses a wired connection. Wires are the best, put them to the test.
Even as a someone who plays Games since 1991 (im born in 1987 and yes i got my Game Boy with 4) im happy that this back buttons are not the standard today and only used in a "pro" way. Im not bad in playing Game, but i also press sometimes the wrong button (nobody is perfect) so if i had those back buttons as a standard today, i would had less fun playing games today, because i would even more missclick. So its good, that they are just optional.
On the other side: spending 100 bucks for a Controller is expensive, even if it has more functions. I still hear ppl complaining that the Original Pro Controller costs 69.
PS4 sells that back button plate for controllers now, costs like $20. that's a $20 hard case it comes with, too. That alone puts the controller itself in the $60 range. True, other controllers have back buttons, but not removeable like that.
This is more like the basic Power A wireless at ~$50, upgraded in quality to $60. Then they added the back button rig for $20. and a case for $20. Right away selling it without the case for $80 seems like it would be 10x more appealing.
I love the regular switch pro controller, I would not up spend to get one without the haptic rumble.
FACTS. I said that lol
No controller should be more higher than the pro controller while taking away features 🤷🏾♂️
HD Rumble is one of those features I don't want to see go 🤷🏾♂️
I’ve got the 8bitdo pro 2 and I’m loving it! I was worried this controller might have given me some buyers remorse.. but naw I’m fine xD 8bitdo really knocked it lit the park with that product, I got the case for it and the phone clip! I like to use it on my switch and my iPhone (will probably be connecting it to my iPad once I get it too) thanks again for your takedowns!
I don't have this controller for the Switch but the first version of the Xbox Elite controller. I like to use two of the back buttons for whichever two buttons assigned to sprint and dodge. Being able to sprint without having to take your thumbs away from the right stick is a big step forward. It also helps a lot having instant access to dodge on the back with a finger you otherwise would only use for gripping the controller, while having your right thumb immediately available for other button presses. I've never found it useful for macros or some features you rarely need, it's much more useful as an alternative location for crucial button functions you use all the time. If I really needed macros for an MMO or whatever I'd be using a keyboard and MMO mouse anyway.
I use back macro buttons JUST for Dark Souls games.
Map the back, right button to the circle button and it's all I need. (Roll/run)
Occasionally I will map the left button to d-pad left or right for flipping through my usable items in games like Nioh 2.
I ended up buying a PS4 back button attachment for each of my controllers haha. They're fantastic.
Honestly though, the $49.99 with two built-in programmable back buttons is all you need. This thing is overkill...and no rumble is way disappointing for hundred bucks.
You sir, have some of the best, if not the best, game news/review/media channel on TH-cam. Congrats for the incredible content you put up 👏👏
I saw two videos that gave a great rating on this controller. So I bought one during prime day for $85 plus tax. None of those videos said it had no rumble nor did they say the audio jack only works wired. It was delivered the day I saw this. But I will say it is definitely a premium controller as for as build quality. That black face plate fells better than the white one as it has a rubber feel as opposed to the plastic feel of the white one. Just wish they would have added rumble.
I have a PC controller from the 90s or early 2000s that has six face buttons and the four main buttons are smaller than your typical buttons but I actually really like that.
The steam controller also has slightly smaller buttons than a standard controller and I think the switches buttons are actually bigger.

Back Buttons: It's free real estate
Wow, it's been so long since you did one of these, what a breath of fresh air
HD rumble is the most underrated feature on the switch you don’t notice it till it’s gone, but when it’s gone it’s extremely noticeable.
Believe me, the PS5 controller will have similar issue in the long run. I do like the feel of the PS5 controller rumble but let get real most of those feature will be cut by third party and mostly be support by first party like Nintendo.
Nice honest review. Keep up the good work man.
On Prime Day, I got a 8bitdo SN30 Pro+ for $30! It feels great, and IMO feels better than the Pro Controller, especially that it has symmetrical thumbsticks! This Power A at $100 is just a TAD steep.
Asymmetrical thumbsticks feel weird to me. Don't like it on PlayStation really. 😅
Would also miss the HD rumble. I notice the difference all the time. Especially if a game really wants you to notice it in intense cutscenes or gameplay.
And I prefer more bulky controllers like the Pro. Just telling my point of view. 🥲
@@timebuddi It's cool. I actually prefer symmetrical because I play more 2D games really. The rumble however is quite intense on the SN30 Pro+. And I'm in love with the overall feel of the Dualshock 4 controller, but I do wish it had switches or clicky buttons like the Xbox One and series controllers.
@@thedead_end9628 About the rumble intensity. What I should have added is that I mean, when a explosion is in the distance it's like a 7 out of 10 intense rumble. But if it's right next to you the rumble sounds and feels like it's going to explode any moment. At the same time if the game is just trying to tell you, you have accomplished something minor without showing something flashy on screen, it's like a soft nudge.
I'm not trying to explain HD rumble. That's just what I like about it and would miss with a regular rumble. 😉
A lot of reviews say that the faceplate limits you from tilting the left stick completely up, so you cant do a full sprint in some games. Have you experienced this?
The idea is to remap the back paddles so it gives you better access to different things depending on what game you're playing if you're playing an FPS it gives you better access to reload times slide times fire speed it helps a lot especially people who use elite controllers and scuf controllers and I'm glad it's coming to the switch
Im guessing the rumble created a lot of noise with the replaceable face plates, and had to be removed. So they basically replaced a useful feature for a useless.
the anti friction rings are same as on Dualsense ans those do work as advertised
@@Ozzymandius1 what? No its just a smoother surface?
The new version of the Binboks with the RGB ($56.99 or $49.99 with Amazon Prime) is my favorite Switch controller for both handheld and TV mode.
Nintendo doesn't allow licensed third party controllers to have rumble and NFC. That's why it's never in controllers made by PowerA, PDP and Hori for Nintendo consoles. Their controllers for Microsoft and Sony have rumble. Only unlicensed third party Nintendo controllers have rumble and NFC.
There is nothing wrong with the Pro controller. It's actually my favorite pad design even up against the Xbox and PS5 offerings.
Just scored one of these marked down at Target to $65, then had a $25 off reward coupon and a $35 giftcard.
Needed a second controller for my dock downstairs in my new house. Went with this because it ended up being cheaper than the OEM pro controller (I already have one anyway).

PowerA controller look like garbage 🗑️
I didnt realize this one doesn't have rumble... The Xbox one does.
I hate rumble and remove them from every controller due to tendonitis so that's a plus for me. Removing the weights to make the controller lighter is also a plus. Might look into getting one of these for Xbox.
My son got the Xbox one version for his birthday and he absolutely loved it.
After seeing this thumbnail I decided to look it up. Saw the brand, Saw the paddle design, immediately closed tab...
The elite Xbox one elite 2 controller main sale for me, is that it's that the buttons on the back can be mapped to keyboard keys instead of controller ones.
That’s like $50 worth of packaging.
Plus, as it turns out, those face plates somewhat restrict the full range of motion of one or both joysticks.
How can I turn it on? The LED's are not even on when I press any button and I just unboxed mine today
A better solution is buy an Xbox Elite controller (or PS4 controller with paddle attachment if you want something cheaper) and then buy the appropriate Brook device to use in on Switch (and everything else).
That way you get a better controller including paddles although you won't have HD rumble I believe).
I love my Xbox Fusion Pro. I also just shut off rumble on most games anyway. Plus the the headphone port. I’m sold.
Power A makes good controllers but i can’t justify spending that much on a controller and it isn’t first party
Sounds like a scam to trick rich grandparents looking for birthday presents.
What's there to scam? Its one big negative would be the lack of a rumble, but this looks and possibly feels like a well put together controller.
Like everyone has already said.. somebody really messed up thinking $100 premium was gonna fly without at least crappy rumble. $100 in anybody's mind is an automatic gyro, rumble and back button regardless of how fancy the box.
Something else.. it doesn't come with two of each size on the extra sticks so you can't change those out and keep them symmetrically paired the same.
Based on what SpawnWave said:
Not having rumble doesn't bother me. I always disable it bbecause I can't stand vibrating controllers in my hands.
What bothers me is the lack of NFC support and the fact that the controller has to be plugged ino the Switch for the headphone jack to work.
I actually like those buttons raised from the face plate !!!
Certainly don’t love Nintendo’s flushed buttons very much although the pro controller is one of the better controllers out there.
the white faceplace fears me, looking like a Stadia Controller with that Orange!
I have one of those PowerA controllers super cheap and super good it has lasted more than the joycons without any problems.
I like the weight. I’m really here for the programmable buttons. Mappable buttons, specially for Warframe. [ Warframe for the Nintendo Switch ]
Good for you man 👏
More tightly clustered face buttons means less thumb travel.
I don't really see mis-presses being an issue.
The weights piss me off more than if it were just lighter.
The reason higher quality technology is fairly hefty is because you're fitting a lot of components into a smaller form factor like a console (or in this case, a controller) but they just deadass wanted that premium feeling, without any reason for it to feel premium
I’m excited about spawn wave controller video. Break down that controller!!!😈😆
Has anyone here ever gone to scuff gaming or used a Microsoft elite 2 controller? The scuffs are like $250 and the elite 2 is $179. When it comes to playing games like apex or overwatch, Nintendo controllers are lacking! This seems like a really good value for a quality controller. I think it is geared towards the online multiplayer shooters. Most of my friends ( and myself) turn the vibration off in those games because it’s annoying and kills battery life. Just my thoughts. Great video!
I bet the white face plate is for custom art.
Also, haven't noticed other reviewers mention how customizable the macro buttons are. Too bad it's so expensive.
Great review! Feel over prizes for sure.
I never bought a Wavebird because it didn't have rumble. I like the flappy paddles but the no rumble is a no sale.
Good to know, was looking for a Pro controller for the switch... I'll avoid this one..Thanks
I recommend just getting a first party pro controller or the 8bitdo snes type controller

Shame that a 70 dollar controller doesn't even have a headphone Jack. Pathetic really.
@@abm2027 whilst that's true its also a shame that if it did have a headphone jack the $300+ console has no chat programs to utilise a headphone jack correctly, forcing people to use a terrible phone app or discord that for the most part requires a subscription if you want any decent features to use

Power a is crap. Bought one of their controllers... Broken straight out of the box. Told me everything i had to know about this company.
No rumble is a dealbreaker for a controller at this price range, especially considering some games Odyssey require it. The regular PowerA controller makes a great "second player" controller considering it has all the features this does except 2 less macro buttons.
You’re right rumble is basic and basic people miss it. It chews up batteries and it’s largely useless as a feature. I always turn it off if I can. It was cool on the 64 now it’s just old.
The thing about the rumble is that for Nintendo licensees, it's in their contract that they can't put any rumble or NFC tech into their 3rd party Switch controllers. Doesn't matter much to me because rumble's overrated and unnecessary.
This controller's definitely worth $100, especially with that four prong shortcut buttons on the back! Very helpful for FPS games like Doom Eternal!
All I want is a pro controller with GameCube style notches for smash.
A strategic advantage?
Power A makes a Game Cube style controller for Switch, it's pretty ok...
@Logan McGlynn That’s not what I said. The notches in the GameCube analogue sticks help with doing precise inputs in Smash. I want a pro controller that has those notches.

I'll pass. Extra weight and no rumble is a hard no. Thanks for the review!
honestly i like the protruded +\- home and snapshot buttons more than the flush ones
I love the DualShock 4 because of the mini jack port and I would like something similar on switch
So no rumble, no NFC, and tight button placement. Are the analog at least higher durability? Probably not.
The power a enhanced controller has Marco buttons built-in and a really nice Super Mario bros 3 faceplate... it was also around $30... I wonder why they made this at all when they had something so close to it already?
Power A ALMOST got me. I preordered after the reveal then saw on twitter it didn't even have basic rumble lol i canceled that trash and got the 8bitdo pro +2 instead and its AMAZING
