The pig on the roof survived at Jupe's Amusement park because it's physically impossible for pigs to look directly up.

Something I noticed my first time around was that the balloon popped killing the alien, but for gordys world the balloon popping is what set off Gordy…
Which ultimately let to Gordy's death as well.
Two human inventions, inflated with helium, causing the deaths of two animals that were extorted for profit and fame.

When young Jupe is hiding under the table during the Gordy scene, Gordy comes to the table and sees Jupe, but the camera from Jupe’s point of view shows that the edge of the table cover is obscuring Jupes ability to look directly into Gordy’s eyes
He was also focused on the shoe landing upright, so he kept looking away from Gordy. Also when Gordy calmed down and went for the fist bump, it made Jupe feel as though he could tame a predator, hence why he tried to take Jean Jacket
the scene is mirrored at the end of the movie too with the green "eye"
This is exactly what OJ does to Lucky by putting the shaded horse hood on him.

I know the overall movie talks about human temptations on spectacles but I really like the idea that aliens visiting earth should not be assume to be advance but could just be like any animal on earth

The idea that UFOs are actually gigantic living organisms is much more terrifying than the stereotypical flying saucer.

That's what always annoyed/confused me about "The Thing"- an absolutely BRILLIANT film no doubt, but it's like a bacteria/disease but it also needs a spaceship?? What the what??! Yeah, loved this concept MUCH better

Another reference is that the alien in its true form looked almost like an Angel from Neon Genesis. Especially with the way its "eye" would move.
I'd really like to know how they decided on the track that plays during Act 3 during the climax. It's so meditative and haunting.

I guess I am the only one that noticed that the coin that killed the father at the beginning had the year 1979 on it which is a reference to "Alien".

I thought the coin was from 1919
One of the scenes that really stuck with me was the key in the white horse’s back (ghost). Horses getting locked in trailers, in stalls, the in the glass box. Perhaps it’s looking at the idea that humans think we can lock up the natural world and only let it free when it suits us. That key image was big. There is a lot to explore there.

I think the “Ship” being the alien and not a ship was the best way to do that, if they had “Aliens” it would of came off as goofy almost

@@Jeremyymarquez I had chills during that part, personally. It wasn’t “dancing”, it was making itself bigger to appear more menacing since it felt threatened, just like an animal would do (which it was). Hands down the best part of the movie for me.

I see a lot of questions about the shoe during the Gordy scene. The reason why it’s important (and why Jupe kept it for his display) is because it saved his life. Jupe was fixated on the shoe, thus avoiding eye contact with Gordy. And avoiding eye contact with Jean Jacket was discovered as a life saving tactic by OJ. A huge theme of this movie: you can’t tame a predator. It’s a miracle my two 70-pound dogs never tried to eat me. 😂
this is amazing and probably his past experiences is what kept him alive for so long.
I've also read some theories about the shoe referencing the idiom "waiting for the other shoe to drop" like the traumatic event at the Gordy's Home set was the set up and the Jean Jacket blood bath was the punchline. I also read about how the shoe sitting up was an example of a bad miracle. OJ mentions something about bad miracles at some point in the movie. Anyway, interesting stuff.

The creature's true form at the end of the movie made it look exactly like the Angels in Neon Genesis Evangelion. Even the center that was like a cube looks exactly like the inner core of the Angels.The way it was pulsating was also very reminiscent of Neon Genesis Tenshi. Peele was absolutely inspired by not just the bible, but Neon Genesis in specific.
I think he went on the record as saying NGE and biblically accurate angels were a major visual/ thematic inspiration.
Ain't nobody making ships in Jupiter so there are no spaceships just ALIENS 😁
He also threw in the Akira bike slide, so Peele is definitely an anime fan

you can also see the similarities of the animal to the extinct RADIODONTA. Check out the mouth openings of the Anomalocaris, the Peytoia, and the Hurdia!
Peele confirmed in an interview that Nope had a double meaning. It’s both a reference to the reaction to something scary, like OJ’s several reactions of “nope” throughout, and an anagram: not of planet earth.

Honestly, I loved this movie so much. It’s one of my favorite movies of the year, I was just so blown away. I personally view it as Peele’s love letter to the filmmaking process and I love how there’s so many ways to interpret it.
I don't think Peele has or will make any bad movies

I agree... so many different interpretations. Peele is definitely digging deeper into his horror filmmaking bag. I feel like he makes it easy to follow his direction in all of his films.
No one is talking about being gathered around a table singing Purple People Eater as a direct reference to Jaws, when they prepare for the hunt on their boat?
My favorite part was how the last scene where the alien takes up the winking Jupe balloon was the final exploding fist bump
The star lasso experience scene, from the beginning of the speech to the shot of the person in the esophagus was pretty close to being 6 minutes and 13 seconds long.
He says to the audience at that lasso experience that in an hour you will leave changed and then an hour later the movie ends so it was Jordan implying that when this movie ends you will be changed which for many people it did.
Signs is one of my favorite movies of all time , and Nope gave me so much of the same vibes !! Absolutely loved this movie. My whole theater was screaming during that little kid alien costume scene

I yelled out Whst the F$#& during that alien scene, and there were only three people in my screening. LOL. All three of us verbally responded to that one, so creepy. And does anyone notice the Aliens that Jupe designed for his theme park kind of look like the cameras from the 90s sitcom? There's even three in a row, like the three aliens in the barn.

That was a clever scene, I really wasn’t sure what was happening. Much like most of Jordan’s movies.
I didn’t really notice that the alien at its full form actually does resemble accurate depictions of aliens in the Bible, further pushing the idea that the alien was always there.
But a Bible accurate angel doesn’t rly look like that tho I’m confused on my why ppl keep saying that

As always with his movies he gave us a lot to break down. OJ the white bronco, “run oj run” spectacle. How OJ didn’t look it in its eye until the end in fact OJ was really detached from everyone but when he does look it in the eyes it changes? I definitely seen a monster similar to Jean Jacket before but I can’t remember where? Angels are alien to earth so both can be true. Good flick

Towards the end, when we see it’s “True Form.” It looks like a jellyfish, but also acted like a snake, by the way it sounded like a hiss- to let you know it’s a predator and you are the prey.

I think Jupe was not mauled by Gordy because they didn’t make eye contact. Jupe’s face is covered by the table cloth. When watching from Jupe’s perspective right before Gordy is shot you are looking at him through the cloth.
I think the shoe standing up is playing on the whole "bad miracle" thing. The shoe miraculously standing up like the gave something for June to focus on, which meant that he never made eye contact with Gordy and that's part of the reason he survived

Didn't Gordy stop when the last balloon popped? I know it's also because Jupiter was behind the veil but the balloons popping added to the aggression
I think the Nephilm idea is on the right lines. When Em got the photo of it at the end my first thought was it looked like an angel.

I love that the ufo was so unique but so cliche at the same time, I love that Peele made the creature seem like a classic saucer shaped ufo that abducts cows it was really awesome

The reason the song "Sunglasses at night," plays when OJ gets back with Lucky is because the group now could have worn sunglasses to block their eyes from Jean Jacket, even at night :0

Guys a Praying Mantis is symbolic of many things but one on a house is symbolizes Angels watching over that house. And during the time Angel was literally watching over their house

Am I the only one who was more intrigued by the story of Gordy than the actual movie itself? Also, I thought the Gordy plotline was gonna connect to the alien plotline somehow.

But I do know that people take note of weird anomalous stuff after witnessing major tragedies. Like Jupe has to focus on it because or the massacre around him.
The shoe represented the idea of "waiting for the shoe to drop" in a literal sense, it was what they referred to in the movie as a bad miracle. Jupe was fixated on the shoe while Gordy was attacking the family, it caused him not to make eye contact with him thus keeping him safe, hiding under the table through the veil.
It's why Jupe survived.

It's been a week or so since I've seen "Nope", twice in the theater. And damn. It's just a fantastic movie. It just stays with you, and leaves me wanting so much more. Jordan Peele is such a fantastic director, and will gladly give him all my money when another one of his projects drop.

I love how the alien is like a balloon and even gets taken out by a balloon. The alien's exploded remains and undigested non-organic material that it expelled would be similar to weather balloon wreckage (Roswell coverup).
I feel like the alien being named "Jean Jacket" could be a reference to "JJ" or "JJ Abrams" who produced 10 Cloverfield Lane which had an alien spacecraft that actually was the alien itself just like this one.
For your last point, the UAP was very similar to the Angels in Neon Genesis Evangelion, especially when it transforms at the end

As much as I don't want to see the scene of the Jupiter's Claim crowd being "abducted" again, I really do think I need to see this movie a second time.
I feel the same way. That scene was hellish. Of course, the Gordy's Home scene was horrific in its own right. The veiled lady's disfigured face sent chills down my spine

Watched a second time on my TV and it definitely hits different not being in a movie theatre. Bu that I mean its much more tolerable.
okay gonna seem random but while watching the movie I counted how many times they said the word "nope" and they said 6 times. kinda loose but could be related
me and my friends were talking about how similiar JJ looked to a serephim with are the highest ranking angels, they also are covered in wings with eyes all over (but in this case JJ only has one eye but its almost all seeing like when it knows youre looking at it almost as if it has more than one)
This is the second Easter egg video I’ve seen that failed to mention that Jupe had a UFO and beam design on the back of his outfit in the scene where he tried to feed the horse to the alien.

I'm wondering if the UAP is an just an Animal Alien. That's why it is beautiful and Animalistic. It's just lost and has found a place with food available and is hiding and coming out to eat.
I was honestly waiting for an explanation about the shoe. Was it really just a bad miracle? Did it land like that, like a ballerina? I have been obsessing over it so confused like it has some deeper meaning because I thought it was floating but no one has explained other than it was just a distraction for Jupe not to look into Gordy’s eyes.
Think the whole brooms standing up during the pandemic.... connection to magnetic field...it was drawing it up...
the way i interpreted it is it was something for him to look at to try and dissociate from the situation. kind of like, "look at all this blood and carnage around me, but why tf is the shoe upright? shoes don't do that".
It was a bad miracle, but Jupe takes it as him being lucky and special for surviving an animal encounter that later causes the death of him his family and many others

Anyone notice the oprah shot kind of looks like a butterfly, a reference to the Nimbal uap vids and the reaction that it was a fly on the screen? Or that the director was taking a bunch of meds leading to his death, maybe implying cancer and that could be why he went for the perfect shot? Or that the tmz riders helmet looked exactly like the orb that freaks the horse out?

When Angel is at his place of work and his manager walks across the screen it’s very reminiscent of when the alien first walks across the screen in Signs
I'm very much of the opinion that Jean Jacket is a terrestrial creature. It behaves too much like an Earth predator, and the fact that it can even recognize what eye contact is is curious on it own. Even its anatomy isn't that far off from some deep sea marine animals. I also don't see it surviving long in space, it seems oddly delicate, which makes sense as it has to be light as it doesn't seem like it can land, and its hunting style doesn't give it prey an opportunity to fight back. The electrical field they generate is extreme but also not something without precedence in Earth animals. Humans don't encounter them often because, ever since the invention of the spear, humans are pretty much the only thing that could threaten them and they are very good at remaining undetected. If I were to flesh out the world a bit I would suggest that the events in the film indicate a turn in the species behavior toward humans caused by the fact that their electrical field, which I assume is used to aid in flight and maybe prey detection, has a knock on effect of disabling the modern technology we now rely on turning what once was not worth the effort into easy picking.
In general, if these things had been discovered to exist in reality I would have no reason to assume that they originate from anywhere but Earth. The characters in the film just jump to the conclusion that they are extra terrestrial in the same way people in the past could have jumped to the conclusion that they were divine messengers.
If it is a earth creature that would explain why earth's "natural" weather patterns. The creature affected the weather and the people in the town had no idea, they just thought it was raining
It being territorial could also explain area 51 in real life too

The title cards are kind of like a respectful tie to the movie being about animals.
If my memory serves me, it was Ghost, Clover, Gordie, Lucky, Jean Jacket
I think it had something to do with the character development we were going to see in that chapter. According to each horses temperament
@@RickMedina04 that does make some sense. Splitting it into chapters was my thought. I also noticed that the horse named lucky was the only one to survive the alien attacks, just another cool detail.

Anybody else notice Jupe's cowboy uniform shows the creature in its flower/jellyfish form? Which means he must have seen its full glory before OJ and Emrald.

@@st33lt03215 I think the flowers embroidered onto the suit look a lot like Jean Jacket. They are sort of framing the traditional ufo pic.
One other little California reference I caught was that when Em and OJ were out on the porch talking over some sodas, the sodas they had were Cactus Cooler. Cactus Cooler is a blessing upon this planet and can pretty much only be found in SoCal.
I love the idea of a "Bad Miracle"
The soccer jersey that Keke Palmer is wearing throughout the movie belongs to a local Santa Clarita High School located in canyon country called canyon High School with the cowboys being their mascot. Canyon country the city is right down the road from Agua dulce
The Jesus Lizard have an album called “Down” where the cover has a floating horse. Very similar visually to some Nope posters
Legit thought of "biblically accurate angels" when we got the reveal of the ufo at the end.
A horse whinny is evoked immediately in Michael Abel’s orchestral score, in its very first two melodic notes. This motif is a descending 6th, B-flat to D-flat; then repeats one step down, A-flat to B-natural.
The whinny motif repeats often in several movements in the score.
The Star Trek rock is also where Bill & Ted were thrown off by their android counterparts in Bogus Journey, which was also referenced in the movie moments before as they were watching that episode on TV in their apartment

It’s a tiny detail, but the three cameras on the TV set have the same appearance as the alien masks worn by Jupe’s kids.

I don't know if I'm the only one who noticed when Yeun's character Jupe was talking through the Intercom at the park that it said "You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here" which maybe referenced the UFO creature and was indirectly suggesting it to go away

The part from the trailer that looks the least real is the thing he's drawing a connection to in real life, this is why Jordan kicks all the butt.
In the California things part where you mention Fry's being in the movie, I would've also included OJ and Emerald drinking Cactus Cooler too.
