    One thing about the rebound dampening. When you say full soft, what you are doing is allowing the shock/forks to rebound quickly. This can lead to a pogo feeling, which for the rear on the wr isn’t ideal. I know I’m 200lbs and the rear compression dampening settings from the factory were too stiff! Suspension settings make a big difference on this wr250r

    My primary bike is a 2019 Super Tenere 1200 (ES) and I picked up a used 2010 WR250R for some more aggressive off-road, trail riding. This video was great for helping set up the "new to me" WR since I didn't get an owners manual with it. I'll dial in the rest on the trail now that I have a great base to work from. Thanks man. Cheers!

    Thanks for the video. I just bought an amazing bike. It’s a 2009 WR250R that was built by Grant Langston. It’s called the Black Mamba. It was up on display for years and he just put it for sale on the showroom floor. The bike is immaculate, literally.
    He put all kinds of mods on it. Moreover, it only has 5 hours on the bike! I couldn’t believe my luck. A plated dirt bike in California is becoming a unicorn these days. Sure you can spend about $16k on a KTM, but the WR250R is a legend in its own right. Now I know how to set the suspension due to your content, much appreciated!

    I noticed a few riders asking about adjusting the suspension that fall outside range of the stock suspension. If that's the case you really need to set the sage first, before making adjustments. That way you know without a doubt the spring rate is correct so your not wasting your time making adjustments that more likely will not get the results your looking for. Most stock suspensions are set up for 185lb riders. Sounds like you fall into the weight range for a stock suspension, If the previous owner did anything to the suspension they more than likely changed the spring rate, revalved the forks or both, especially if they where north of 200lbs. And u never crank down your set screws on the suspension. Suggesting to go in as hard as it will go is bad advice. That's a good way to screw something up. At best u snug it up to wear it just gets tight.

  • @nesteffe
    @nesteffe 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    The technically correct way to adjust the suspension for your weight is to first replace the springs with the correct rates for you + gear + luggage. If you are around 160-190 the stock springs should fine though. The clickers aren't really meant to compensate for weight differences which is probably why the previous owner had them set so out of wack.
    One strange thing I noticed, it appears the bike has a Yamalink lowering link already, but it also looks like it has probably another 1/2" to 3/4" of factory lowering that could still be done. Strange whoever owned it before would buy the lowering link but not do the factory lowering first.

      And I believe you can remove the lock nut for an aditional inch of lowering, along with the first inch of lower addjustment that no one uses. ALSO looks like they did not lower the front, just the rear. Now it is a sand bike

      Andy, It’s a 1968 that I’ve been working on for years. Aside from the body it’s pretty much all brand new. 2165cc engine with Fox racing suspension, wilwood disc brakes up front, Porsche front seats, custom dash/center console and a whole lot of other stuff. Some was already done by the previous owner and I just continued the project. Its 95% finished with a few last things and some fine tuning.

      Raising the jam nuts does lower the bike but it also changes the preload and sag which is most important. You should only change the preload to obtain the correct sag and not to lower the bike. There are better methods to lower the bike such as raising the clevis on the bottom of the shock and sliding the forks up slightly in the triple clamps (doing both so the bike is still balanced front to rear)

    What manual are you using for your information? I just got a 2023 wr250f and it way to tall for me to touch. 5”6 and 155lbs only a 29 inch inseam. I got it to follow my 4yr son around the trails so he can ride his 50cc. I installed the yamalink today and I’m still waiting on the short seat to come in. Gonna lower front forks tomorrow about 1/2 I guess. I’ve not been on a dirt bike in 20yrs lol. Open to all suggestions and help. Thanks for the great content.

      If height is the issue I’d recommend a lower seat like the seat concepts first. Then if you need to go lower add a yamalink lower link. For adjust the suspension this would be a comfort and for the type of terrain you ride.

      I took my forks and shock off and brought them in to a suspension mechanic. He was able to shorten the forks about 3/4 inch by adding spacers inside and likewise for the shock. Still used the original springs.

      I would set it at factory specs then go plus or minus from there depending on your riding style. I am about 200lbs and was happy with the stock setting. Adam preferred his to be more spongy and is about 160lbs. When I rode his I felt like it was too soft for my riding style. Again I would start at stock and adjust either way for your riding style 😊

    • @EastTexasADV
      @EastTexasADV 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      These bikes are set up for 185lb riders as.most stock suspensions are. U really need to go w a different spring in the forks and rear shock if you want to do it correctly. Stock stuff is just way too soft.. and don't forget that's with you geared up completely. Set your sage first. That will tell you if u need to upgrade the springs

      @@petekemper4082 It’s a tall bike and would recommend the yamalink if you can’t touch. But the downside to the yamalink is you can get high centered on going over logs and rocks. But worth it if you can’t touch when stopped. I ended up putting my bike to the stock settings and removed the yamalink and just dealt with tippy toes touching when I stop to get the full performance.
