I was at this concert - I was still at UNLV just down the street from the Tender Trap which was on Flamingo and Paradise. Every time I saw Carl play he always used the legendary Carson Smith on bass. It is a good bet he is on this.

The conversation that the beginning photo is Kai Winding is untrue. That is Frank! And I worked a gig there that year as well as booking Hampton Hawes there. The owner used to come to L.A. and a jazz club in Studio City where I booked entertainment and sang and booked me. He knew many jazz artists and about them. Nice man.
Yeah, another comment. I can't believe or understand why there are so few views of this! Every good player worth his or her salt copys Frank and Carl, or at least should! Here's a prime example of their playing! I guess this is why there are so many that play well, but miss the mark.

These two Cats in the 50's together with Jay J J &Kai Winding were the HORNS on that horn, but You also had Curtis Fuller and other Cats!
