starts off with a rhythm changes jam, after which the questioner (leonard feather?) asks "is that how they played the blues in Kansas city". Basie's answer is priceless.
Whenever I've seen or heard the Count before he seemed easy going and certain things I've read suggest he was. This put a different perspective on him and I can see why he was able to get so much greatness from his ensembles. He looks as if he could tell people what to do if he had to (a la Rich or Ellington).
The drummer on that first cut... ZOWIE! He's got some serious shit goin' on! Basie is his usual elegant, interesting self and the guitar and bass also just kill in the mix when it's just right for them to do so.
Thanks for posting and sharing this. This is a true joy to watch and listen to. I sure wish I could go somewhere and watch this level of musicianship and class today.
thank you ralph for presenting a master!🎹😮
La formation où les musiciens nous faisaient entendre le meilleur du blues. Là, Basie , Green étaient dans leur monde ! Sensationnel !!
Never forget that Basie was one of the greatest jazz pianist too...
Genius.
He plays more sublime music with the notes unplayed than most are even capable of dreaming.
The Zen Master of Jazz
REAL MUSIC BY A MASTER OF SKILLS..
The incomparable Freddie Green on guitar! A true legend.
Freddie Green playing so smooth!

Fantastic to hear the Count play in the stride style, if only briefly!

Great is great and this is GREAT!!!!
A sound from the Count, always with open ears ! 🌿☘🍀
Fue un músico irrepetible. Lo escuché en Buenos Aires, en con Sonny Payne y Eddie Davis, entre otros. Inolvidable
Marvelous!!
That’s a fabulous video, thanks for sharing it.
Sonny's brush work. Yikes! Those upstrokes on the underside of the hi-hat are terrific.
A true genius!
lovely stuff...
Superb,as always....
Count Basie! My man!
Count Basie never played more noted than necessary.
Just about Heaven !
The Count was the greatest.
I share your enthusiasm but I’d say one of the very few.
nice
"I Don't Know" sounds like the rhythm changes.
Monk had a similar approach to soloing:Don't waste any notes.
Dewey on bass…RIP
The simplicity and space and understatement w raw emotion( softness, sweetness have rubbed off on me Davehepler youube
You can play a groove over him TALKING and it will swing
I like his style, relaxed, easy listening./ Not like Tatum orO.P. So many great pianoplayers, Wynton Kelly, Hank Jones.... etc.
