I whish companies would equally readily give money to other problems where people are actually being hurt, like those drowning in the Mediterranean for instance... This is not to discredit the pain felt by people with regard to Notre Dame - I know this is symbolic, and it is great that attention and money is being given to rebuild this historically important church. However, I find it hard to take how disproportionate this issue is making headlines and is getting support in comparison to other very real and even more complicated problems that are involving actual human loss of life. Anyone...?
I understand, and I partially agree, but as an African (most of these people going through the Mediterranean are African I believe) we should not expect anyone to raise money for us. It's their country and their money so it's their choice at the end of the day unfortunately.
I guess it is hard for some to grasp the symbolic & psychological value of Notre Dame to the French. And there will be a huge sum raised also by the "little people" digging hard in their pockets to give 10, 20, 50, 100 Euros towards the massive challenge of repair work, because of this.. But yes - it IS sad that those who can well afford it and who're making major individual contributions don't commit similar support to other crises (especially as many of them find loopholes to avoid paying support through full tax-paying ... even at the rates established under people like DT.)
@@latefanelum1303 I don't see why money shouldn't be raised for Africans in desperate circumstances but I agree that countries usually mind their own business. I guess my point is that it is relatively easy for companies to look generous by donating money to a hugely emotionalized, symbolic story such as Notre Dame. Meanwhile, other issues that are even more needy of financial support are left out because they aren't as good of a story if you know what I mean. But I too do wish the excessively wealthy would react the same way to support less spectacular causes ... @Tammy - I'm not sure that people are 'recognising a building as having more value", in fact - some of our fellow citizens' real needs are not just the financial & service support needs. I wouldn't underestimate the importance of the way people are drawn together round this building. Loneliness & isolation are major problems of 21st century society, and the sorrow & shock around the burning of the place which is where the bells first rang out to announce "Liberté" in 1944, the place from which all places in France measure their distance ... this brought down (briefly) the walls that keep strangers apart - across all groups in society ... “What do I know about branding, maybe nothing (but I did become President!), but if I were Boeing, I would FIX the Boeing 737 MAX, add some additional great features, & REBRAND the plane with a new name. No product has suffered like this one. But again, what the hell do I know?” So, what does he know? He bought an airline shuttle route and aircraft from Eastern airlines. He fixed up the airplanes with "great features" like new white paint, maple wood veneer inside the cabin, chrome seat belt latches, and gold colored lavatory fixtures. He partnered with LapStop, a startup firm which rented laptop computers to passengers. He installed the GTE Airfone in-flight telephone system, and served free meals and complimentary champagne, beer and wine on the flights. He advertised it as a luxury shuttle service. The airline launched on June 8, 1989. It went bankrupt and closed down on April 7, 1992, and its assets and routes were sold to USAir. So that's what he knows about airlines, and what happened when he took his own advice. The presidential medal of freedom thing? That's not news. The medal is a throwaway that presidents have always given out on whims. If you look up the list of recipients, they've handed them to their wives, friends, and such luminaries as TV personalities, dancers, artists, and, yes, athletes in various sports. So for that one, Trump isn't really standing out by giving one to a golfer. The PMoF really isn't worth anything, and has no real criteria or standards the recipient has to measure up to.

here's what's sad about Notre Dame, it was built 850 years ago, that would be the 13th century, the time of the inquisitions, this is when the catholic church in Rome, ordained the interroragation on none catholics and burned them at the stake, with their property and wealth going to the church, this is how notre dame was built, by stealing from those persecuted and tortured by the church,, I say let it burn to the ground and a monument be built to those that died so it could be built
Flying water tankers over a city...hah. Besides, the pressure of the water dropped onto the building would topple its walls. That's why the firefighters directed the water at specific points as opposed to a shotgun approach and dropping water all over the place or the risk of too much onto one area such as the walls and stained glass windows. Emperor go and rake the WH garden that would be more constructive.

@@illuminate7496 "water bombing" is a technique used to fight forest fires. It's generally best to use rakes to make lawns outside churches look pretty by collecting fallen leaves from nearby trees, to water bomb forest fires & to trust the local fire service (who are highly trained professionals) to know the best way to extinguish building fires.

Isn't rebranding the 737 as the MAX and quickly slapping some new features on the aircraft what started this whole mess?
The 737-MAX is not a rebrand, it's an upgraded 737 with more efficient engines. The reason they tend to autoland is because the engines may autostall the plane and the software that should prevent it is/was not reliable.

Check this article out for instance, it's about homelessness in Paris: www.reuters.com/article/us-france-un-housing-idUSKCN1RO19C
@@Lopro94 yes, in this case you are kinda right, but rich people also tend to have a way of seeing homeless people, so they have less empathy.
@@Lopro94 In fact, as soon as the Pinault family made their "big" gesture of 100M Euro, I was betting on others seeking to "outdo" them ... and they did, very quickly! I'm glad of the sums they can so easily spare for Notre Dame ...
And the value of that is incalculable
I had the north rose window of Norte Dame as my home screen on my phone. It's now back there. Thank you for the inspiration.

Sorry, but giving him a medal can only be the idea of someone with the same lack of honour. Grab 'em by the putter!
@@BigMamaDaveX But unlike the allegations around Trump, I am unaware of any allegation that Tiger's sexual affairs were non-consensual. So he cheated on his wife, which is bad, but he's not an assaulter or pussy grabber. So I have to disagree that it is the "same lack of honour." Assault is very different from consensual adultery.
“What do I know about branding, maybe nothing (but I did become President!), but if I were Boeing, I would FIX the Boeing 737 MAX, add some additional great features, & REBRAND the plane with a new name. No product has suffered like this one. But again, what the hell do I know?”
So, what does he know?
