    Glad I live in Scotland where when a mass shooting at a school happened in Dunblane in 1996 the country said "Nope, no more handguns" and there hasn't been a shooting since. Went through school not having to worry about being shot.

      There was the Cumbria shooting, but yeah. Shooting is rare. We did have a drive buy archery shooting near where I live.

    From a person who lives in a country that does not allow guns, the speech from this president fills me with great despair. I cannot ever imagine going to school with the fear it might turn into warfare. I don’t understand. Why is this normal?

      Barbara Schupp Idk. It seems mass shootings have become quite the norm in America.

    • @LukeCuddy
      @LukeCuddy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The idea that money is an expression of free speech is fundamentally flawed, because money is not equally distributed. Because our government does not provide funds for its own continuance, candidates run on private pools instead of public (tracked) assets. So, the money of an organaztion becomes worth votes in the very real sense of advertising and spin control, boost your message and garble your oppositions. Profit, currently has political capitol, which is being exchanged for lives. Greed Over People; is it any wonder that the party that hates government, absolutely sucks at running it?

    Why would a teacher run after someone with an automatic rifle when an armed police deputy was too scared to enter the school in Florida?

    • @Zoki4444
      @Zoki4444 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The teacher would be more likely to run after someone with an automatic rifle because the teacher cares about the safety of his/her students. The police deputy only cares about his own safety.

      You´re deluded, Zokizzy Foshizzy. A teacher who cares about their students will help them to get out of there as fast as possible instead of leaving them alone to look after a shooter. Also trying to confront an attacker with an assault rifle while you´re only having a pistol isn´t brave, it´s suicidal.

      Max Maxwell - absolutely correct!
      Us Aussies sold our guns back to the government, and since that national gun ban in the 90's *we haven't had a single gun massacre since* . You can still own a gun by getting a license and use it to hunting or go to a shooting range, but the whole country is collectively *safer because of the ban* . Everyone feels safe from gun violence. The crazy nutjob at your child's school can't kill other kids or yours. Kids aren't afraid to go to school here! We don't need to arm our teachers (what a moronic idea) and we don't need security guards in schools.

If you must have such security let a professional do it as opposed to a teacher. It's not that complicated. Just as you say: guns should only be in the hands of the best - and they have to prove that they are, indeed, capable of owning something potentially deadly. Also, the willingness to just kill another human being, attacker or not, is startling. The whole affair just leaves me in a mixture of terrified awe, speechlessness and anger.

      but the reality now that guns are common, arming the teachers is an insane idea, but you do need to hire armed security guards to post at schools all around America. because even with gun control it would take several decards to the number of guns already present in the US to drop. you can't make any legislation that would magically get rid of all the guns you have in your county.
      gun free zones need to be protected by professionals with guns until the threat of gun violence is removed. that's just logic.

      My dude, that's what a militia was. People used to have a genuine need for militias, especially further from the major cities, because it would take weeks for the government to respond to an attack on the town. That's not a thing anymore, and even when it was, the weapons they had were nowhere near the level of refinement they are now.
      Also, try to grasp the fact that we're not trying to take all your guns. You don't need a military-grade (semi) automatic rifle, you just don't, I don't care, you _don't._ But, like, nobody's saying you can't go hunting, or keep a pistol for self defense, or whatever. We'd just like to make sure you're not a lunatic before you buy a device specifically designed to kill things you point it at.
      ...Oh. Is _that_ what you guys have such a problem with?

      why would we ban semi automatic rifles? you guys say that it’s just the rifles and that’s it but trust me after the semi automatic rifles are banned, the hand gun murder rate is going to increase and you are going to complain about that and then when you whine about that and ban hand guns, then stabbing as would rise with gun deaths from illegally obtaining firearms. rather then banning guns from law abiding citizens like that one time when the teacher punish the whole class because one dude did something wrong, we should make our police more brave so that they can save lives instead of waiting outside(four cops just stayed outside with guns while this was happening) , make the police more serious about red flags (the florida police got 39 signs before this happened) and make the fbi more serious about these red flags (2 signs they just ignored like the police)

      I'm with you @lee Paul, except you have one fact wrong. Hand guns are already the leaders of fire arms deaths. Semi-automatic rifles are only exposed because of the mass shootings. However, most deaths are caused by handguns. So you can see, there is already a precedent for the liberals. Once we get the rifles, we can start blaming handguns (since they are the real killers).

      2. For maximum carnage, the shooter could get classmates while they're unloading from school buses. Which leads to arming school bus drivers.

      Fua Consternation The problem with the whole “armed deputy” outside the school is an issue of training and tactics. The single armed officer doesn’t go in because he cannot assume there is only one shooter and that shooter only has guns. If he went in, at best he might succeed...but there’s a greater chance he’d only add one more body to the count and give the shooter more firepower and a radio to eavesdrop on law enforcement. The shooter might also have an IED, maybe with a deadman switch. That means more dead people at a faster rate. The best thing to do is call in the SWAT team, which takes precious minutes to mobilize. An active shooter is a tactical nightmare.

    A lot of teachers have said they are not comfortable with a firearm in the classroom. My friend’s dad is Navy and has concerns about teacher/student safety during an active shooter situation where teachers have guns. According to him, law enforcement and SWAT are trained to shoot at anyone with a gun because they have no time to ask the teacher if they are the shooter. Thus there is the potential of more injuries and fatalities

    • @jglobetrotter2830

      Isabell Dodson Exactly so. I am a teacher. If I am barricaded in my classroom with all my students pointing a gun at the door thinking a shooter is about to come in, amd the police come in instead, assuming that I don't panic and fire at the officer by mistake, the officer will see the gun in my hands and be very likely to fire at me, which means he is shooting in the direction of my kids too.
      I won't ever carry a gun at work. It would put students in more danger, not less.

    I understand that schools are the current topic, but mass shootings happen at work, at church, in movie theaters, at concerts! Basically any public place is a 'soft zone' to someone who wants to shoot it up. Roughly 30,000 people lose their lives to gun violence every year in this country, yet a deluge of guns w/lax regulation isn't the problem?! What if we were this lax about car safety or drunk driving? Why does anyone need a military grade weapon? And quit talking about mental illness as the culprit when Trump & this congress rolled back regulation to make it harder for people with the condition to buy guns last year. It's easy to see these people's motivation to defend guns, blame everything else including the victims & do nothing, as usual, $$$$$!!

      Fern Viking yeah let's think about this. 600,000 people die from compilations of obesity. 30 teens are killed every day texting and driving. 52,000 people die of opioid overdoses every year. I think we have bigger problems. This psychopath could have easily made a bomb and chucked into the room. If someone is set on killing they are going to find a way to do it. Look at drugs they are legal but people still use drugs, people who are of this mindset will find a way. You can't stop them you but you can slow them down, but ultimately they will prevail.

      There is also no evidence to suggest that fortifying schools and arming teachers will be able to stop mass shootings.

    I don't agree with the President wanting a bonus for teachers who carry guns in class.
    Having been professionally trained I can tell you in a crisis situation for most it’s a 50/50 chance to hit a target just 12 feet away. (that’s why we have automatic rifles). For someone moderately trained what will people think the first time a shot misses its target, oops! No, it will be I can't believe the teacher killed my kid. All those teachers who are great role models now faced with this horrendous burden. I also worry about all those teachers who are not the best role models some of them being bullies…. now lining up to carry guns. What kind of classroom will that be. I thought little Johnny had a gun, I acted in self-defense… I love my guns, but I can’t imagine a gun carrying School environment bringing less fear to our society. I can see it as one that destroys imagination and individuality as it pushes conformity. Think about it, no one fires just one shot in a gunfight. It will be an almost certainty that anyone returning fire will accidentally kill children they are protecting. Unimaginable to bear. Australia had A school shooting, they banned the assault rifles. Since that time the government has had buy backs for anyone who owned them. They have not had a single school shooting since. Schools are not the military, kids are not soldiers. Don’t promote a society that merges the two.

      And what about other violent incidences at schools, like a fight? I've had to break up fistfights before, luckily I was there when they broke out, so no major injuries, but what if a teacher comes across a kid beating the crap out of another kid, and shoots the kid doing the beating. Now you've just used lethal force on a CHILD who, though harming someone, probably wasn't going to kill, and certainly didn't deserve the death penalty. And if you DON'T use the gun in that situation, you have to try and break up a fight, when you have a weapon on you... there are just way too many things that can go wrong in that scenario (and it's a very likely scenario, I've been a teacher for five years, and have had to break up four fistfights).

    Donnie and the NRA have a really strange idea that shooters select their targets based on a checklist. In fact, most shooters attack a school with which they have a connection, often which they are attending or attended in the past. For this reason, the idea that the shooter has no idea which teachers are armed is a non-starter, mainly that the people with that opinion have not yet started learning to think seriously.

Can they afford Civil Lawsuits, for your kid being a victim of collateral damage, miscommunication, poor logistics, human error, or mistaken identity, etc.??If school Districts can't afford Life Saving CPR Devices that can Resuscitate a person & Rich school Districts have several, others either just 1, or None.How can schools afford the gun toting Teacher's being trained in Criminal profiling, handling violent perps on drugs, mentally ill, hostage negotiations or who their goal is Suicide by Cop??Even cops who are trained in firing guns can NOT have perfect Marksmanship & guarantee a 100% center mass hit, for perps who are running, hiding, using people as shields, have body armor on, and who are equipped with High powered automatic rifles that can fire hundreds of bullets in mere seconds, and large caliber handguns, which cause maximum soft tissue damage when they're exiting a victim's body.And unless, these SWAT Trained Teacher's are capable of cloning themselves, how the hell can they reach a perp/student who's not in the same room with you or on the opposite side of the School campus??Instead of training gun toting Teacher's, just hire SUPER Hero's with Super powers, Batman, Superman, Ironman, etc. as Teacher's because it sounds just as STUPID & UNREALISTIC as Trump's gun toting, SWAT Teacher's to help with School Violence as a solution???? First off, not a lot of military veterans in teaching. Second, I am very leftist, yet do believe in school security. However, trained security guards, are one thing. Teachers should not be that. My mom is a teacher and she would end up shooting herself in the foot. And I grew up with police and security guards on campus due to gang related violence, and they stopped people from entering the school with guns during gang conflicts, and also used to patrol and protect the school. But not every school can do that. They were friendly and made us feel safe, but it’s sad we are to that point. Security should be enforced, but more importantly the education of mental illness, and emergency plans in place to protect students. There should be more protection in school so kids are safe once they are inside, but NOT armed teachers. Checking students for weapons and enforcing security measures is needed. But, also, education should be just that, educating on mental illness, safety, and also they should talk about things in school to help identify harmful behavior, how to react in those situations, and provide counseling for any one suffering from mental illnesses. Defense needs to happen, but not in the form of teachers forming a militia. These things will happen and it is awful, but we need to protect the students, keep harmful adults and others off of campus, and help but defensive and “offensive” preventative mental health support systems in place to help prevent the downward spiral of hurting students and maybe even teachers. This is sad that his response to everything is “shoot em”. These dads need to start thinking about what is best for their grandkids, and how they can prevent this type of thing happening in the future.

    Teachers are teachers. They’re not meant to be bodyguards and it’s really unfair to put that intense of a responsibility on them (protecting our kids lives from a shooter). School are already grossly underfunded and classes are overcrowded, I’d rather my money go for better equipment, books, things that will help my children learn, so that teachers and students can do the job they’re suppose to do. And the idea of having retired military or police officers to be your teacher so they’re already trained ... does it matter at all if they’re even good at teaching? This whole this puts too much on our teachers and also undermines how hard it is to be a teacher. It’s not a job anyone can do or a job anyone should just be able to do.
    Trumps suggestions are absolutely ludicrous and Marco Rubio’s “justification” is pathetic. There’s no reason civilians should have assault rifles and putting more guns in schools to deter someone from shooting it up ... it’s so unbelievably ridiculous how far this argument has gone when people are still dying. These are kids going to school and should be worried about homework, friendships, relationships, just being kids and teachers should be planning lessons, helping students, just being teachers.

      Having a firearm just acts as an added security measure if worse comes to worse. There's no doubt that schools are a huge target to shooters because of the fact that its a "gun-free zone". If we up the security a bit, these would happen a lot less. Weather that's achieved by arming the teachers or having more security. Either way, there's no denying schools don't need some form of security. Shooting the killer is a better option than running away.

    • @carolinamurtha3102
      @carolinamurtha3102 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      why does TH-cam allow people to have names this long? This is kind of ridiculous don't you think? Of course there is added responsibility to having a fire arm; guns can kill people. Every profession who carry weapons on them are professions where there’s a high potential of being attacked or killed (like police officers). And those are professions you go in knowing that that’s a big possibility and I have so much respect for them doing a job where they might not be coming home. Teachers shouldn’t be on that list. Many go into teaching with a love and passion to teach and impact young lives, not have their lives on the line to be able to teach. I don’t think those who shoot up schools are of the sound mind to think of which one will be the easiest because clubs, movie theaters, restaurants, concerts, etc, have been targets. It’s wherever that person has directed their anger or what ever drives them to commit these heinous acts. And like I said in my first comment, teachers and schools are so underfunded already, where is the money going to come from to train and then arm them? They spend so much of their own money on supplies to be able to create and go through with lessons to teach our children but sure, let’s throw whatever money they could be using towards better textbooks, supplies, etc, and put it towards arming them 🤨.

      they're afraid of minorities. Watch bowing for Columbine. It shows how the mad rush for guns started when slaves were freed. Thats also why mass immigration was used to get more people from Europe. Post slavery the Black population outnumbered the white population. Ever notice how when police shoot a black person its always because they thought the black man was holding a gun, which is often times in of itself was not illegal, just like Philando Castille who told the cop he had a gun and a license and was still murdered. The NRA never stands up for Black people's gun rights. Only white people. Black people get charged with minor crimes all the time as a pretext for taking away their gun rights and voting rights.

      why should they protect themselves of a gun shooting while other teachers in other countries don't have that problem in the first place, also, "protect themselves" ? by going on a head to head western style facing the shooter with an assault rifle, when even the police officer who got to the school first didnt even go into it ?

    • @daniellarsen5520
      @daniellarsen5520 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mahrez Mus the other country argument does not and probably never will work in America. Gun control? We've tried it. Several times. Maybe you don't remember the assault weapons ban we already had during Clinton. It didn't stop gun violence in any way. Or maybe look at California, Illinois, or New York. All these "common sense" gun measures are in place there and together they have the most gun violence in the country. So what's your suggestion? We let the teachers and by proxy the children be helpless? Or do you give them a fighting chance? You don't want more children to die but you refuse to admit that gun free zones, common sense gun safety, or any of that shit doesn't work. So what are our options? Just let it keep happening?

Allowing unlimited access to internet and uncontrolled cell phone usage to everything someone can imagine. No discipline, no morals, no character, no control and no family. Self control and decency is destroyed by liberal action and inaction. Who wants to be inconvenienced by disciplining the children? that would take time away from all the fun immoral stuff.

      You do have some merit in your observation. It's like comparing Game of Thrones and Andy Griffith. You have the young girl assassin verses the gosh, golly, gee wiz crowd. As a young boy I remember local stores being closed on the sabbath. There is something to be said for sociological traditions that brings communities into lock step when it comes to indoctrinating moral fibre.
      On the other hand, sometimes ignorance doesn't grant bliss. Then again, people now spout all sorts of crazy conspiracy theories all over the internet. Like Patton was assassinated by Eisenhower or those contrails are actually chemtrails used in "geo engineering", and those flat earthers. Used to be that we only had a few radio and TV stations broadcasting, and our local newspapers. Crazy ideas didn't get much chance to circulate.
      Still the underlying problem is anxiety, brought by the hidden tax called inflation. This plus those nutty conspiracies are combining into a dangerous mix.

      All too right. Had a guy argue with me saying it's perfectly normal for a single woman to own an AR15. The mentality behind that is astounding. As I recall the attack at Sandy Hook, it was the teachers own weapon that was turned against the school. They're just too many weapons lying around. Just get rid of them. Hunters can have their bolt action rifles, and double barrelled shotgun would suffice for home protection if semi automatics were removed from the landscape. Semi automatics aren't about accuracy, they're about volume of fire. Crowded situations wouldn't come under fire as much if one slows down the rate of fire.
      There's no real point to semi automatic assault weapons except for mass murder.

    Yea ok if someone broke in your apartment and you need to defend yourself- you don’t need a freakin assault military grade gun that shoots 800 rounds a minute-- use a baseball bat or pepper spray, or a taser or air gun and call the cops. This advanced weaponry just isn’t necessary when it comes to civil defense

    • @crimsonjedi

      @crimsonjedi 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@anarch1.c I agree that we should not have fully automatic weapons for public use even though our constitution says we should have the same grade weaponry as the military in case of government tyranny. But most semi automatic rifles have a clip of about 30 rounds which I don't think is to much. Some hanguns can hold around 20-25 bullets so not much of a difference. If we had a ban on semi auto rifles today it just wouldn't work the way people want it to. Americans that follow the law would probably give up there guns but not criminals or just ones that don't want to do it. This would just cause less law biding and good citizens to have guns and more bad guys to have guns. Very very risky if you ask me.
