I have restored a 1959 Impala and 1959 El Camino and made a "rat rod" of sorts out of a 1959 Kingswood station wagon. That year is getting harder and harder to find parts for since they were a one year design.

I had what I believe was a Rare Chevy back in the late 90's it was a 1970 2 door All original Impala, it was the only Year for the body style 69 and 71 didn't look like a 70 at all. After all this time I still regret getting rid of Old Blue, money 💰 issues caused me to get rid of her, such a great running car. I appreciate your videos thank you.

One of the advantages to being #6 of 7 kids growing up in the '60s was that I remember so much of late '50s and '60s history, styles, fads, pop culture, etc, through the eyes of my older brothers and sisters that as a kid I would probably not have been aware of otherwise. One aspect of that was the parade of '50s and '60s now-classic Detroit iron my older brothers always seemed to come up with, but back then were just used cars. They'd keep them for a while, get tired of them or something bad would happen to them, and they'd get another. This video reminded me of one brother's white '59 Impala with red interior that he owned for a short time around 1965. That was a sweet car, at least until one night when a drunk ran a red light and t-boned him, totaling the '59. He also had a black '58 Delray coupe either just before or after the '59, and one night someone rear-ended him at a red light and totaled it, too. As far as I remember he was unhurt in both incidents other than maybe some bumps and bruises.
Another brother had a triple white '59 Buick Electra convertible, a blue '63 Riviera, and a silver '64 Grand Prix among his parade of vehicles in the mid-late '60s. He'd keep one for a while before getting tired of it, then he'd sell or trade it and show up in something else.
Their influence turned me into a life-long car guy.

Just found your channel, my first car was a 60 Biscayne 4 door in Northern Illinois. It was rusty to say the least but drivable. I sold it over 20 years ago, and I doubt its still around. Seems like everywhere I went people always had a 59 or 60 or had even owned my car. I guess that's the life in small town midwest. Keep up the good work.

@@IowaClassicCars Wow. No way !! I've looked forever for an example to buy back .. but they are literally upper stratosphere prices now. I'll likely never own one.
My dad's had Mickey Thompson 5 spokes circa' 1963. The tripower came from a 1961 Impala .. his rear lenses .. he flipped inside out, and swapped sides, and he blacked out his front grille so one could only see .. the little grille bullets, the upright bars the bullets rode on, and the left to right .. centering bar that the bullets also rode on.
Yellow on green sounds horrid .. but the interior doesn't look as bad as it sounds. It was a darker green vinyl/naugahyde with center inserts with a multitude of green, white, and yellow .. varying pleated lines. All factory.

You've got to thank Chrysler if you love the style of the '59 Impala....If the GM designers hadn't found out what Virgil Exner was bringing out for Chrysler Corporations entire product line in 1957 when they did(in late 1956)GM was gonna bring out warmed over 1958 models for Chevy and all the other GM divisions in '59.So GM ditched all their cars they had in development for 1959 and quickly came up with all new styling.....It took them 2 years to do it,but they brought out longer, lower, wider cars.....All because of Virgil Exner and Chrysler.
P.S......The tallest tailfin car ever was not the 1959 Cadillac like everyone wants you to believe....It's the 1961 Chrysler Imperial...It has been measured and verified at factory suspension specifications. The '61 Imperial fins are taller by over 1 inch.Another "one up" by Virgil Exner and the mighty Chrysler Corporation of old.

Hi Ryan, congrats on your find. It would really be interesting if you did an interview with the previous owner about the cars if he is up to it. Who were the original owners.
Too bad that you decided to part out 2 of them especially the 60 convertible. Those convertibles are Soo rare and sought after. There are lots of parts out there already. Would have made a nicer story to have the whole gang survive. Just my opinion, my thinking I know they need lots of work, but once they're gone they're not going to be back. A loss. So few survive now.

I like 'em stock, or at least close enough to change back without any irreversible modifications. Mild street rods are cool, but I cringe at some of the monstrosities people create out of these beautiful works of automotive art.
That said, I'm also a solid believer in private property rights. If somebody buys one of these cars and turns it into something hideous, I would defend to the death their right to do it......even if I personally couldn't stand to look at it.
    That's freedom.

@@IowaClassicCars So I have to ask you...when you evaluate a pile of cars like that....I understand that you can probably make 3 out of 5 and get a pile of parts that would be a PITA to get for projects you already have...how do you value your time and work? What would be your estimation as to how many hours & $$ it would take to get one of those into salable state? Not concourse, just a good clean driver? To me, one of those is 500 hours of work and say $8K in parts if an an engine needs rehab. I used to do this with specialized computers...but they didn't have brakes and lights and dashboards and seats and tires and on and on. I was perfectly willing to make 3 out of 5, but they could be made to work with 2 hours of work (or...15 minutes) and parts from other corpses I had on hand. Or they couldn't.

When you're rounding up old GM cars do you ever come across any parts for the BorgWarner overdrive GM offered in 55-69 cars and trucks?

Big Chevys were not just Impalas, but also Bel Air and Biscayne. Caprice then joined the model line in 1965. It's not like later with Impala LS, LT, etc.

@@IowaClassicCars well let me describe the car first.( you might not like it) it's a custom impala. It Has been painted(red), motor change, rims & tires, and custom suspension(hydraulics), interior custom as well. But looks good. I used to take it alot to car shows. Twice to the world of wheels in chicago. Btw location is south suburbs of chicago. I have storage it for for about 4yrs now. Havent taken out or enjoyed it any more. Just thought i would explain alittle bit of the car because you may not like the idea of it having hydraulics. Make no mistake, car was never never abuse. Just a straight cruzer. So if yr interested let me know, if not no problem and thks for responding back!
