    Thank you so much for helping me fix the same problem! Followed your instructions and it was literally the orange wires disconected (due to the massive amount of water underneath the carpet) Reconnected the wires and now we have audio again! 5 star review people. This guy is spot on.

    Thank you so much for this! My daughter bought her first car a couple months ago, 2004 Chevy impala. She noticed the other she had no sound at all. We could tell the radio worked but no sound coming out at all. By googling this issue I found your video and was able to fix it myself, both the wire and the issue that caused the problem in the first place. This mom is also pleased that the total cost of repair was less than $20 (new cabin filter and silicone for the seal). My daughter is happy and I get to brag that I fixed it myself. Thank you!

    You were right on the money. I did what you said. The blacks were fine but low and behold I undo the tape on the oranges and boom they rotted apart. Tied them and soldered them taped it back up.Started the car back up and there's my sound working perfectly. BTW 2002 Chevy Monte Carlo SS. Everyone listen to this guy he knows his stuff. Mad props from the wife and me. Thank you so much.

    For anyone who is using this video to fix this issue and follows directions to literally like i do at 1:02 in the video it is stated "right behind the driver seat" that was obviously a honest mistake in words. The wires are located behind the passenger seat and if you paid even closer attention you will see he is working behind the passenger seat to fix this issue. Also for those who are reporting they only have black wires i thought the same thing you have to continue in both directions uncovering and sorting the wires aside to locate the orange wires he is showing you in the video. It took me a while to find where mine were split at mine were a lot further towards the back then his are. Very good video thank you for saving me the hassle and bullsh!t of trying to figure this out because your video fixed the problem right away

      so your saying in the case with the black wires...the orange wires with the connection could be further back than stated in the video?

    We just had a HUGE rain storm last week and it washed the rubber off my Impala's cabin air filter area and now my radio/chimes don't work at all. I had a TON of water on the floor in both the front and back seats. I'm going to try this and pray it works but for as wet as it was down there, I wouldn't be a bit surprised at all if this is what the problem is. Thank you for this video in advance!

    Thank you! Went out to my car one day to find a puddle of water. After some research, discovered that seal you mentioned had come loose. I bought a $4 diverter that replaces the seal (yay upgrades) but my sound had gone. Was thinking the amp had burnt out since that's a known issue with the Montes but your explanation makes more sense. Going to work on it first thing in the morning. Hopefully it fixes it. =)

    Thank you so much for this video!! I had water in my 2004 Monte Carlo SS from a bad storm 8+ inches of rain. Thought is was from the windshield as I had a small star and line crack under the wiper on the passenger side. Luckily the "SafeLite" windshield repairman was very honest and told me after exam that it was not the shield and we discovered the filter was soaked and the seal was not in place but loose in the engine compartment - lucky it was still there. After seeing your video I believe I can fix this myself. Thankfully I got the water out quickly as it was about 2-3 inches deep :o(.

    Hello so I have a 2004 montecarlo ss and had the water problem but my radio problem is low volume on passenger side and normal on driver side if you have any ideas on that fix I'm all ears. My other question is your vid shows exactly what you say two orange wires into 1 and the black is 2 blacks going into a single black. Well my car has 3 orange going into 1 and 4 blacks going into 3. It is the factory wiring harnesses and connections. Any help with the volume issue would be very much appreciated. Also if there is different harnesses or something that would be great info as well. Thankyou

    my radio started off just having fuzzy sound every once and a while and slowly got worse until it has now completely stopped working. assuming that means the wires have been touching on and off but have now completely seperated, so it's safe to say my amp is not the problem right?

  • @sam111880
    @sam111880 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am having a similar issue but its not the radio its for the hvac controlling unit giving intermittent heat. I get a parasitic draw when i push the rear defroster button as well as heat doesn't work all the time. So its something with the hvac control unit , a faulty wire , (probably affecting a blend door actuator). Same main problem leaking thru air cabin filter to the floor which the blower motor had to be fixed before. I am lead to the conclusion that it also affected the wiring/connectors for the hvac control unit.

    I have a 01' Impala
    I think my wires are connected. Only 1 of the speakers work, which is the rear passenger works. The two front and the driver side rear doesn't work.
    My dad took it somewhere, and the audio guy said that the "channels in the radio are going bad, you need a new radio".
    I really don't want to have to buy a new or aftermarket used radio just to get all the other speakers to work.

    Nice fix! I have an 06 Impala with the ever troubling leaking seal under the cowl as well. However, I have no door chime, the horn does not sound when you shut the doors and the front tweeters work on the stereo. Nothing else, only the tweeters work. Should I go ahead and look at these wires as well? As a standard, the car dealer put in a new radio and then came and said sorry your amp must be burnt out. Ok simpleton ...... then why does the tweeters work if the amp is burnt? lol I hate dealers.
    Thanks for the video! It has given me hope to get some stereo back in my wifes car again.

    Hey, I just recently changed to a new stereo and the factory stereo originally had sound and power. But now I just have the power with no sound. I have had the water problem and actually never knew how that happened but now that I saw this I understand, anyway does the default radio actually use the amp in the car? (Monte Carlo) or would only an aftermarket use this amp. I find it pretty coincidental that now that install this new stereo I just don't have sound. Would appreciate the help!

    I have an '01 Monte Carlo. Left side speakers work, chimes work, no water on floor, but right side speakers are out. Would a bad black (ground) be the cause. Do I check the black wire to the chassis for continuity?

      Probably bad speakers most likely. If it was the ground to the amp, the amp would just not function at all and you would have no sound at all.

    I have a 2000 chevy monte carlo and when I changed my facory radio to a after market radio I lost all my warning chimes, how do you still have yours?

      You need to buy the proper adapter that will retain chimes. Metra, PAC, and Scosche all make them.

    Would this work for a Chevy Cobalt ‘09?

    Will this work on a 2006-2016 impala

    Now what if your speakers work fine other than the door speakers? They come in once in a while n the chime too but 90% of the time it's just clear audio coming from the back

    You're a lifesaver for this!!! I didn't solder mine because I'm a pussy lmao but I had to get some extra wire, my 3 orange wires were connected with nothing but electrical tape :/.

    can anyone tell me if this problem still happens on newer models? I have a 2011 Impala with the same problem and I want to make sure I need to do the same thing...

    Man I have the entire passenger side of my 2000 Impala torn apart, all the way on top of the rear seat, and I'm not seeing any area where 3 orange wires tie into each other. There's 3 black wires crimped together, but no orange wires together. This is frustrating!

    So do you have to hook up the amp wire on the radio harness blue/white?

    Hmm, the harness I have used the blue wire as a power antenna, maybe I was sold the wrong adapter. it is a metra 70-2003 and the vehicle is an 2002 Monte Carlo. I also noticed I don't have the chiming sound with the key on / doors open.

    • @TheAmpLab
      @TheAmpLab  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Power the blue wire still. it sometimes doubles as amp turn on in some vehicles. you won't have the chime sound unless you buy the appropriate adapter to retain it. since the chime is controlled by data through the factory head unit, you lose it without buying a data adapter for the aftermarket. no big deal though usually. Also you must have had to run the red Acc wire to a switched ignition source correct?

    • @TheAmpLab
      @TheAmpLab  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jessica Cantu Yes, the black wires have the same connection as the orange wires, so they have the same corrosion issue. The amp needs both to function.
