I remember Disney had a bunch of Marvel trailers leak. They said they were disappointed that it leaked because it didn’t represent a finished product. And I was like “we’re all adult enough to know that”

@@zach-rac Exactly. Those early early trailers of RDR2. The short "in-engine" teasers didn't look nearly as good as the final product. They looked good, but there was clear work to be done in the years up to release and it delivered in the end. To many it's still the best looking open world game unless we're comparing to a Sony exclusive like Horizon on PS5.

I'm a game dev. Those lines in the leak are the ways we test our games to see where a boundary point is or create a predicted path for maybe an NPC to go. It can help to see these to test how much a game can handle or if these systems are working as expected together. It shows they're probably trying new stuff over making the same game with just new environments.

I do design work, primarily web design, and while I was watching/listening this video I was working on mockups for a website. I have a column next to the mockups that contains descriptions and notes, and I'm just imagining a client looking at that and going "man, that column totally ruins the feeling of the website", somehow missing the very obvious point that it's not a part of the website. That's basically what people are doing here. Gamers really are something else.

TBH I was disapointed bc I set up my expectations thinking Rockstar was working on using a system like BeamNG Drive for their car model physics but that does not appear to be the case at all.
I whish they were trying new stuff like that but I am no longer hyping myself up that it will be the case...looks like just mostly same with minor tweaks.

    • @rodsk8dude731
      @rodsk8dude731 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@memegazer It didn't even need to be on the level of BeamNG. Old technology can still be fun and impressive if it was well made and tweaked just right.
The damage didn't look too bad on GTA IV, just a bit weird when deformation got very extreme. Even in the base GTA V it isn't as bad, but if you're playing the online modes, or using mods to access update cars in single player, you might not know this. The damage is a lot more underwhelming on update cars. And with a simple mod you can also enable damage to the car's cabin, which improves it a lot too.
Driver games on the PS2 era, as bad as they could be, and with their terrible reputation (though I did enjoy Parallel Lines a lot on the PS2), had very good driving and damage models for the cars. I think, if I'm not mistaken, that cars could even split into parts, like the Bolide in BeamNG after it's update. And some PS1 racing games, like TOCA (the predecessor to GRID) already had decent mechanical damage simulation (hell, talking about PS1, they even had a first-person camera and WORKING MIRRORS).
Just add some small features, tweak the damage well, code some basic animation modifier for if the cabin gets dented in a way it would go where the character model sits (I mean, they had the tools I believe, like with some stuff we saw in GTA IV. Euphoria has a lot of potential), and it could look amazing while still being much lighter than Beam (do remember that even on more powerful CPUs, that game still can't handle that many cars at once. I haven't tested the simplified traffic with the new update yet, I hope my PC can handle a decent amount of traffic now).

I actually like enjoying games it just has become that much harder to do so.
I literally went from having owning a game that was fully playable (Bloody Roar/Tekken), to games that come with feature cut to be put in dlc (Dynasty Warriors, Sims), to single player games with micro transactions (AC Valhalla, Watch dogs legion), to the final form of games literally making new games out of old game assets and calling it something new #with microtransactions# (Pokemon/Fallout 76)
I guess that makes whatever I enjoy become a treat, but also makes finding a game I want that much harder. The part that kills me is how Nintendo used to be a company that hated low quality games on their system. To now having a whole system that's purely playing ports and emulations and selling them for full price. Just watching the last Nintendo direct gave me brain worms.
Games have become less about art and what not and every console/PC game has went the mobile root of over saturation at the cost of quality. I dunno when selection has began to trump quality but now a days that's the focus.

Incredible stuff. I didn't know GTA6 was going to get the "Get Woke, Go Broke" nerdrage treatment. But now I am looking forward to it.
I'm excited for the day when -- much like fundamentalist religious people -- the "anti-sjw" crowd has placed so much culture into the woke-heresy bin that they are stuck without any videogames, movies, books, or TV shows to enjoy. They just have to sit in the dark reading the old testament (Jesus was a bit of an SJW defending that sex worker, having long hair, hating on people for making a profit so no new testament allowed) and occasionally shouting "WOKE!" to no one like an elderly dog barking at an imagined mail truck.

Speaking as an animation student, I'm sick to the back teeth of people complaining when early footage doesn't look good. Trying to animate anything with all the effects and shaders and final textures are active is EXHAUSTING and ends up slowing the whole process down. There's a reason we leave the fancy stuff to last, and it's so we can focus on getting the base elements down and working.

My guys, please for the love of god! Animation takes a ridiculous amount of time and without planning forwards, any work you do can be utterly and completely useless just by virtue of a few things changing in the scene. I learned this the hard way when my rough animation was all done off the top of my head, then when the time came to polish it and I had more experience under my belt I realised just how much more interesting it could be and had to redo half the crap all over again. Perhaps over the course of the story she learns to be a better criminal, culminating in her going on a Roaring Rampage of Revenge against the robbers to get out from under their thumbs. Or maybe she goes to the FIB, lays out what happened, attempts to do the right thing, only to find out the cops are just as corrupt.
Just about the only story beat I wouldn't want to see is her 'falling for' one of the robbers and that being the reason she 'turns to the dark side.' That kind of storyline partially robs her of her agency and plays into sexist stereotypes. I'm fine with sexist stereotypes for NPC's, but I'd hope the devs would treat a main character better than that.

No, I'm pretty sure this game's grind will be incredibly skewed, pricing will be such that literally FORCES people to buy Shark Cards if they want to make meaninful progression, because thus far in GTA5's timeline, no one has meaningfully made enough of a problem for them to stop, they even went so far as to put an actual Casino, that you can use to Gamble Away Your REAL Money, right in the middle of EA's Own "Gambling" INvestigation. Yeah...this is why I rarely participate in fandoms, especially not video game fandoms. The pressure to have a perfect project to begin with is so big in creative communities, or more of, communities that consume that content and it is so freaking exhausting. Not to mention, people losing their shit when any minoritiy is made the main character of a piece, these bozzos never stopping to consider that it might be written or created by said minority, just assuming it's being done to "satisfy the whiners". Hell, even some people inside these communities assume the worst without properly trying to understand where the creator is coming from (and not recognizing them as a part of the community even when they are). It's freaking exhausting and therapeutic to hear talked about.

See me I'd be grateful as a fan to have a peek under the hood of a game I like, in the same way that I get a kick out of seeing concept art and storyboards for films I like.
