I'm Catholic. I'm someone who judged Shia harshly when his career went "nuclear," as he says. I started watching this dismissively, knowing he's an actor and expecting him to put on a perfunctory show, assuming he'd probably change religions again with his next role. I'm not even a quarter of the way through this interview and felt compelled to pause and write this comment. Harsh judgement is what I dislike most in other people, yet it's what led me to this interview: to watch Shia put on a show or try out a new PR stunt. I'd like to apologize for my own presumptuousness and small-mindedness. God deflated my ego when I watched Shia engage so openly and straightforwardly, and so humbly admit to his own humanness and wrongdoing and the hurt he's caused. Not only are his answers beautiful and compelling, but his sincerity is scathing to my senses because they were not prepared for it. I pray his journey continues to be a fulfilling one along the path of growth and righteousness. This was beautiful to see.

Hi, cradle Catholic here also. I approached it cautiously and curiously, like a Wampanoag approaching the Pilgrims. What does he want with us? Is he going to redefine our faith to fit his industry values? I, too, was shellshocked as the scales fell from my eyes. Shia put into powerful words what the Mass is and how powerful is the mercy of our Creator. I thank God I saw the Aleteia story on Facebook, which led me to this video. What a privilege.

St. Augustine's quote helps me ever day: “The church is not a museum for saints, it is a hospital for sinners.” It's the inexhaustible forgiveness and love of God for us that keeps me going every day. I've dealt with a massive porn addiction that spanned almost 30 years and I'm in the recovery process. It hasn't been easy and I've had my share of relapses, but with God's grace and forgiveness, I can beat this battle once and for all.

Saint John of the Cross (1542-1591)
I live yet do not live in me,
am waiting as my life goes by,
and die because I do not die.
No longer do I live in me,
      and without God I cannot live;
to him or me I cannot give
my self, so what can living be?
      A thousand deaths my agony
waiting as my life goes by,
dying because I do not die.
This life I live alone I view
as robbery of life, and so
it is a constant death - with no
way out until I live with you.
God, hear me, what I say is true:
I do not want this life of mine,
and die because I do not die.
Being so removed from you I say
what kind of life can I have here
but death so ugly and severe
and worse than any form of pain?
I pity me - and yet my fate
is that I must keep up this lie,
and die because I do not die.
The fish taken out of the sea
      is not without a consolation:
his dying is of brief duration
      and ultimately brings relief.
Yet what convulsive death can be
as bad as my pathetic life?
The more I live the more I die.
When I begin to feel relief
on seeing you in the sacrament,
      I sink in deeper discontent,
      deprived of your sweet company.
      Now everything compels my grief:
      I want - yet can’t - see you nearby,
and die because I do not die.
Although I find my pleasure, Sir,
in hope of someday seeing you,
I see that I can lose you too,
which makes my pain doubly severe,
and so I live in darkest fear,
and hope, wait as life goes by,
dying because I do not die.
Deliver me from death, my God,
and give me life; now you have wound
a rope about me; harshly bound
I ask you to release the cord.
See how I die to see you, Lord,
and I am shattered where I lie,
dying because I do not die.
My death will trigger tears in me,
and I shall mourn my life: a day
      annihilated by the way
      I fail and sin relentlessly.
O Father God, when will it be
that I can say without a lie:
I live because I do not die?
      God Bless.

This made me cry and feels like something I am going through as well.
As a cradle catholic, I've lost touch with the Catholic church over the years(decades) and trapped in darkness.
drugs, porn addiction, sex, pride, anger greed, chasing money.
even a philosophy degree (at a Catholic university) only led me deeper down the path of existential dread and depression, as I was seeking to destroy rather than to unite.
I still spend most of my life alone, and mostly lonely.
36 years old and incapable of loving.
I had nowhere to go, until I suddenly felt a sense to go back to church and attend mass though anxiety, fear, shame and doubt kept me from going immediately.
When I finally did a couple of months ago, I started crying 😢 during mass (and I still do).
I felt a warmth and a sense of belonging that I hadn't felt in a very long time.
There's still so much to grow into and learn.
This is story is so I inspiring and heart warming.

What I noticed upon entering was that they had us give our will and our lives over to “the God of our understanding” or simply our “higher power”. Shia, I was raised Catholic and recently went through a painful divorce and live in a different country from my kids. It's extremely painful and humiliating and because of shame I have fallen away from prayer, confession, and mass. I watched this video from beginning to end and it was as entertaining and thought provoking as any movie I have seen in the last five years. And it reminded me that putting Christ in front of all else is the only way to live. I'm going to confession today and then to mass and your inspiring conversion process was crucial in reminding me where my mind and soul should be. We fall, then we get up and trust in God.

Deo Gratis! I Hope you take no offense - but be sure to get the rosary blessed. Most have forgotten about that if it has been a long time. .Also, many that attended Catholic school never were taught the proper way to say and meditate on the rosary. There is more than one approach to mediating and with the internet's lots of great articles and videos to offer meditation ideas. .
There is more than one right way to focus, so enjoy the re-discovery! If you like you can look online for articles on Scriptural rosaries which can really get you going to meditate on each of the Joyous, Sorrowful and Glorious Mysteries (and Luminous later added by JP2). Also there are some nice videos that some find helpful when you don't say it alone. There are some BEAUTIFUL videos by the Late fr Patrick Peyton. And Bishop Barron's (Scriptural )Joyous Mystery rosary is on TH-cam video, and is very moving! It brought me to tears when I first saw it! As Dr. Taylor Marshall would say, welcome to the Team!

Padre Pio spoke to Shia. It is no coincidence that he was led along this path. Padre works in beautiful ways still. Padre came to me over a decade after I left Italy..lived there for over 7 years. In 2001 I saw a photo, framed on a wall amongst other photos of family and such but this one made me stop, I asked my friends elderly mother aka Nonna..”who is this in this photo?”.. it was black and white..a boy in a hospital bed and there was a priest maybe I thought but it made me stop and held my thought and feeling. She said “that is padre Pio and Tonino, he was a little boy and sick in hospital..padre Pio came to see him and he got better.” I smiled and looked deeply at the photo then moved on to sit with her for some time. I never again thought of this Padre Pio..I lived in a small town that was set above the city of Napoli in the foothills of mountains for 3.5 years..Then lived in Sicily for almost 4 years. Not until last year did his name come to me. During thought in between prayer/meditation I was just lying there in peaceful thought..Padre Pio called upon me. Not a voice but his name came in my mind, in my heart..I was open to guidance and had dedicated my existence in entirety, eternally to the Lord..I was open and always asking to be closer to please guide me and this was a calling. I felt close to him knowing nearly nothing except we both speak Italian and I thought of that photo. I then began to read and watch film footage. I felt his emotions, tears of joy..connectedness..my soul was moved and since that night I speak to Padre Pio, he brought me so much closer to Mother Mary, she called on me to know of Joseph. This brought much healing. I have a beautiful rosary with a medallion of padre and I thank the Lord for the blessings that would not be possible withought him. I can not exist any other way or even think of what existence would be without God guiding me, Jesus leading me hand in hand never letting go, Holy mother nurturing..protecting and the entire divine family I say in prayer/thought/meditation. I am so grateful. It is so beautiful to see Shia moved by Padre, I understand..my experience is different with Padre Pio but I understand because I had grow apart from God due to enduring abuse for many years. God ensured that I would remain alive several times..doctors didn’t know how I was alive after one incident that put me in icu for over a week..I should have died..it was a miracle and not the only miracle protecting my life here but the one that doctors couldn’t explain…so I gradually began to shine brighter and brighter as I began to follow my soul calling. I feel to give of myself to God is not enough often, others gave more and it brings me such joy, peace and more..it is hard at times yes but The closer one is with the Lord the more Joy we feel and I suppose I exist in the moment..arduous..painful times I can endure because I am supported and strong even if it hurts like gut wrenching..like a wound that rips open my heart..I hold on and find the light even in the darkest of places. I send love and light to all in abundance, I pray for you all no matter what you believe in..God is good and merciful. And true..not just a character for people to believe in and act good hopefully..God is real and true..I have known since I was 3 1/2 years old:) I never shared any of this but the words flowed and I think it’s time I shared some of this✨❤️🙏🏼 God Bless you all and have a Blessed morning!

I'm at 27 mins into this and Shia just said reading the gospel was like reading a map. It is a route taking you to something. If he could summarize it in two words, it would be "let go." I paused the video and I wept. I mean really deeply wept. I know that is the answer. LOST is my favorite tv show and this was the message Jack finally got in the end. He needed to "let go." Hebrews 4
      King James Version
4 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.
6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.
9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

Shia's story makes me emotional because it reminds me of Saint Augustine, one of the most beloved saints of the Catholic Church: he lived a very troubling life until the age of 33, made his mother suffer ("the saint of tears"), and had a strong conversion no one expected. Makes me very happy to hear him being healed and to see God's love and grace change someone no one would have imagined. Truly, as Saint Augustine said: "every saint has a past and every sinner has a future".

Samundar Singh also had a story. Read Exodus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.
Do family or friends ever ask you to “PRAY FOR” them? When they need prayer ? You ask God to help them right or to have mercy on your loved one, whatever it’s is that they need. God says to pray for each other. God is STILL the same God today and is truly indeed faithful at granting prayers through intercession to this day. Believe that God can make Miracles in this way. My parents were living with me at that time and if were saying the Rosary I would pretend not to hear them and stay out of sight so they wouldn't invite me to pray. When they spoke about Padre Pio I would become so angry and say awful things about him. My pride was enormous. Slowly though I began to pray with them. I finally returned to the Holy Roman Catholic Church but with a deeper love for God. I wanted to know more about Jesus and His teaching. I consecrated myself to the Holy Spirit because my life was a mess and I realised I can do nothing without God. I needed guidance. Time passed. The problems didn't stop but I am happier now. I have God with me in everything. Years later my parents told me they had been praying to Padre Pio for my return ❤✝️

The 20th century was the single largest period of growth in the entire history of the Church. 16 million people converted to Catholicism in 2020 alone. Attributing this unprecedented level of spectacular public interest to a liturgical tradition that is scarcely available to the vast majority of Catholics on earth doesn't add up at all. Maybe traditionalists should take note.
It is the truth people want. Not just a xenonationalistic devotion to a liturgical tradition that is pretty much identical to the structure of every other Catholic Eucharistic liturgy in history, despite the current tridentine liturgy itself being younger than the protestant schism.

I’m sitting here in tears, rejoicing for Shia. What an incredibly powerful testimony. I’m not Catholic, but I am a Christian. I kept thinking how interesting it is that Catholicism was the thing that drew him to Christ. Not because there’s anything wrong with it but because to the rest of the world, it seems to be full of more rules & regulations - it’s not naturally appealing to someone who wanted nothing to do with religion & was agnostic. But God knew! He knew what Shia needed and what would draw him to Himself. He didn’t need the easy version of the Gospel, he needed the hard & something truly full of meaning and depth. Today I’ve learned so much from the Catholic Church & I’m SO touched by it and his story.

At a very young age, during Mass, I pointed at the priest and asked my mom, “When can I do that?”
I’m 28 now, and I have been discerning a vocation to priesthood on and off for the past 3 years. COVID separated me from sacraments and has been a large hurdle in my discernment process. I have not been able to find a spiritual director but I continue to deepen in my passion for Christ.
A lot of my discernment comes from the evidence of my past. I was an actor and was involved in Musicals during my education for about 7 years. I hated being an actor and I hated being an actor. But I did not act for enjoyment, I acted because I was so attracted to a girl in my class that I wanted to be involved in all the acting, all the singing and all the dancing to be with her.
That is a parallel aspect of my life. I feel so unworthy in this calling, but I love Christ so much I know He is asking me to the table to get to know Him better.
Catholics keep me in your prayers. I do not want to fall away as I did when COVID came out.
Jesus is Lord and Savior. Amen

What a HORRIFIC mistake to become a priest, if for no other reason that the office is never mentioned in the N.T., let alone that of a pope.
      As I said elsewhere...
If Catholics were smart (which they aren't) they would RUN, not walk, away from blatant falsehoods such as the outrageous belief that at the Last Supper, Christ gave himself in sacrifice BEFORE (!!!) he went to the cross the following day (CCC 621, 1365). How he did this, no one knows, but of course Catholic pundits will tell us without a shred of biblical proof that it was done in some metaphysical manner unknown in the Bible, let alone to all mankind since time began.
Yeah, right. Just believe what we say and all will be well. Pffft.
In any case, the claim is to be rejected on its face because,
“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven”
      (Ecclesiastes 3).
Hence, Christ gave himself, no sooner and no later than on the cross at Calvary the day AFTER the Last Supper and not BEFORE as the Council of Trent and the lying catechism report.
Moreover, God is AGAINST Romanism for stupidly claiming that the entire body, blood, soul and divinity are contained in each microscopic crumb and molecular drop of the Eucharist. This is, in fact, he greatest metaphysical insult ever foisted on the human intellect since the dawn of time!
To impress the gullible (and to escape any interrogation) the trick is to use the term, “under the appearance of”.
They say this all happens beyond the realm of the senses “under the appearance of” bread and wine, and of course, without a shred of biblical back-up.
A person will a logical thinking brain would tell the Pope's fan club, "Shall it also be said that the whole EARTH is contained in and under the appearance of every single grain of sand? Or that the WHOLE OCEAN is contained in and under the appearance of every single drop of seawater?
      Surely not!
That being so, Jesus is certainly not contained in and under the appearance of every crumb and drop of the Eucharist; for our senses conclude that what we are hearing is irrational beyond belief.
Looked at another way, when we look out into the field and see a rooster and a caterpillar, we know that he could easily turn them into something else if he wanted to (Matt 3:9). But to turn the rooster into a caterpillar, which hides under the APPEARANCE of a rooster, are the ravings of a maniac - and is something Almighty power could NOT do, since neither could function as originally designed. Therefore, it is a lie to say the bread is turned into the body of Christ…under the appearance of bread.
It is all as nonsensical as would a blind man being healed "under the appearance" of blindness (!) or someone being raised from the dead "under the appearance" of death (!) or water being changed into wine "under the appearance of water" (!).
Truly, Catholicism is counterfeit Christianity to the maximum level.

Respectfully, then you are moving from Biblical truth to heresy, idolatry and a false theology of salvation. Christ is your mediator, not a priest. We do not pray to Mary or others for mediation. We don't give veneration to beads, statues, or other images. We accept Christ's words that He is our only mediator and that we are not to refer to priests as "Father', or celebrate the holidays the catholic church redefined from their pagan roots. Purgatory, where's that in Scripture? 2nd chances after death, where's that? Dressing up statues, kissing them, carrying them around; is this not in violation of the 2nd Commandment? Claiming false lineage to Peter. Where does it say in Scripture Peter ever stepped foot in Rome? Where does it say he is the foundation of the church? Christ is the Rock for which His church was built. The Catholic church has a serious idolatry problem! Christ's church doesn't house pagan idols from around the world. Dead church patrons are chemically preserved so Catholics can venerate them. Beheaded skulls and bones are on display in Rome. Even the Vatican and the most famous churches in Europe were built on former pagan churches.
