Im doing this for my truck bed. Im using pvc to build a ladder rack of sorts and im getting a tarp to throw around it and tigthen it down and after that i will use c clamps to tighten it to my truck
I'd be worried about putting load on it, especially when under strapping or when it's cold. PVC can be quite flexible and brittle. Thanks for watching!
@@PenguinOutdoors you cant put a load on a soft top and if i wanted to have something that could i wouldnt be making something cheap and diy that defeats the whole purpose i need a cover for my truck bed and im making a solution. Pvc frame with a tarp over it it would be water tight
Hey thanks for watching and leaving feedback! This should work great for your bed rack. I've used this same method to make covers for other applications as well. I'm actually using it now to make a sunshade for my Hobie Outback Kayak for next year.
Thanks Alex! It's almost a year old at this point and holding up perfectly. They do have the sun shade material available in different colors if you look around online but I wanted to stick with black and it was available locally. Enjoy your YJ, they are a ton of fun!
I made a DIY sunshade for my JK this summer. I took the enclosure netting from an old 15' trampoline (that the wind blew out of my backyard and destroyed) I cut the rectangle out approximately 1' larger than the dimensions of the area to be shaded. Next I rolled all the edges twice and hot glued them in place. I had a package of zip ties in my tool kit and zip tied the sunshade in place instead of the bungee/grommet idea.(I was going for $0.00 expense for the build.) I may improve the sunscreen with 2' wide Gorilla Tape and grommets and Harbor Freight bungee balls in the future, but it works for me just the way it is and doesn't look too shabby. Side note: In the spring a bumble bee hit my windshield and bounced up and into my lap. With the sunshade I no longer fear that from happening again...
Bugs coming in over the top is one of the main reasons I wanted a shade top also. I like your idea, any time we can repurpose what would otherwise be trash it is a good thing! I have not needed to add the gorilla tape or sew the edges yet, but I have heard others needing too. I think if it was taken on and off a lot that would be more of an issue. Thanks for watching and sharing your DIY!
I'm always happy to be entertaining! It's holding up great and I have zero complaints. It blocks the sun really well and even protects from light rain. No complaints at all.

Came here looking for an idea on how to add a bikini top to my trucks bed rack. Thanks for the idea.

Bro, your sunshade needs a sunshade. There are so many hilarious moments in this build. I've been there man.

Do they provide solid material not just mesh?
You could source a solid material by other means but sunshade material is the way to go for sure. Thanks for watching!
you can buy these for 60.00 made.....sorry..better deal to buy made unless someone just likes a day long project
To each their own! I spent half of that $60 and invested a fairly minimal amount of time. Thanks for watching!
