Owned both the Lexus ISF and the C63 (6.2) the Merc is far more dramatic because of the sound but the build quality and reliability of the Lexus will definitely out trump the Merc,BM and Audi !!
A very refreshing car review. Followed you for years with the other format of video with countdown lists etc. love those but didn’t realise you had such talent for driven car reviews. I think this was perfection. Expressive without the cliche, just what you think in the moment. Bravo. Need more of this. Keep rising sir
Really appreciate the kind words! Will keep pushing and getting more of these car reviews out and my plan is to continue to get better at the production side - I have all the equipment just not the ability yet!
Great video of two great cars. I bought an E92 M3 from Motorland last September and love it, especially the noise. The Audi is a great car also which I considered but went for the BMW as being rear wheel drive the handling is a bit more engaging when pushing on. The C63 AMG Merc is also another great car from what for me was the golden age for this class of car. I went for a manual E92 M3 as though the DCT is brilliant, I prefer the added involvement of a manual.
I’m a manual guy too - sounds like you’ve got yourself a beast! I think if I was buying an M3 I’d have it in manual and M4 I would go DCT - they serve different purposes in my head!
Love your enthusiasm. You remind me of a rapper doing reaction videos and watching Elvis for the very first time. Blown away. Nothing will ever be the same again. Keep up the great work!
I have a c63, for fun and noise like you had in the M3 you have a great time in the Mercedes equivalent, serious noise, power and in my experience good from a reliability standpoint which is good for the peace of mind
I think if you want that last bit of handling then the m3 is a great car. But personally if you got a c63 PPP facelift with lsd and the increased power, it's unbeatable. The m3 has the induction sound that is great but the 6.2 has that machine whirring engine sound in the front and the exhaust note plus the comfort for daily driving and then the crazy tail happy rear. I wouldn't personally consider a prefacelift c63 with the 7g ironic and would suggest the mct and an lsd
Totally agree on new cars not having the same feel to cars like those two you have just drove. I had a year 2000 S2000 and it was the most analogue brilliant experience compared to the FK8 Type R GT which is a great car as well but just not the same. I replaced the S2000 with a 2007 Jaguar XKR 4.2 V8 in British Green aka the poor man's AM DBS. Love it and it's a real struggle to find a car for decent money that will have me looking over my shoulder every time I park up. Perhaps nostalgia is coming into play for both of us.
I hear you - it’s the same with my mx-5, I haven’t driven anything that’s given me the same level of enjoyment yet! Nostalgia definitely, and analogue feel too
These the 2 cars that got me into cars when i was younger. Would love to own both of them one day. Crazy thing im in the market for a car...whi knows lol. Thanks for th3 video.
E92 M3 forever. Can be the slowest and clunky car to drive but definitely sings better than Adele. Doesn't need to be loud, just the perfect tone. Fucking love my one. And congrats on the probably my favourite video of yours.
This video just confirmed for me to buy the RS4 this weekend. Was weighing up both options and was torn but this confirmed somethings I was thinking after testing both but was wondering if it might of just been the cars I was looking at.
After a couple of mins, I had to check if the RS4 was still on the Motorland site or if there was a new car in the JB garage 🤣 By the end of the video it could have been either. Can see both of these up there as I type this, so I guess that hasn't happened, yet... I reckon that RS4 with the manual, plus an exhaust to get that sound sorted (and, it's content!) has got to be a good call, surely! Still some interesting running costs of course, so that offsets the presumably decent depreciation situation. Totally agree on the older cars, my Pug purchase was because it felt at least a bit more like that, while having the modern tech. I really struggled to find that balance, modern cars are too numbers-focused, heavy and not as fun anymore. Shame nobody is ever likely to do a restomod 306 GTi-6, or get the suspension right even if they did, I'd be all over that.
Haha I couldn't believe how good that RS4 was - genuinely surprised me! I would have one but it'd have to be an estate I think, if only so it's more practical! I'll need to try the pug for sure if it feels more oldschool in terms of driveability, modern comforts plus older driving feel is the perfect middle-ground for a daily!
@@CarsWithJB The Pug should be ready in June I hope! Getting the decat checked out in a few weeks then it just needs a service...if all that goes well I'll finally drop you a DM about it! I reckon after this video you'll need to try an E46 if you haven't already, since that's even more pure old school driving, not that I've driven one myself yet.
I enjoyed this video👍 subbed 👍 I had a CLK500 and it always put a smile on my face 😂 until somebody brake checked me turning right whilst I was checking left 😪😤
The thing with Audis is that the steering feels really light and numb at low speed - it's too assisted. At speed though once it weights up.. yea, I'd have an RS4 in a heartbeat.
I turned it off for the back end of the video, just after I messed with it, and let it bark a bit - unfortunately the roads I was on didn’t let me enjoy it to maximum with tc off but I still got a decent feel!
@CarsWithJB ah good to know. When I bought mine initially I didn't know about it and it felt slightly hindered. Figured it out eventually Pressed the.m button and it was a different animal. Suspension, throttle response and steering changes completely 👌
Second this with my e92. Hit the M button when the road is smooth, open and dry. The steering in the twisties is much sharper and the throttle is too. Buy a well looked after car that’s had the rod bearings and throttle actuators done like I did. Been awesome! Prices are reasonable… for now. Should also add my car isn’t my daily, Golf GTD does that.
Stop comparing the E92 to an M4. Completely different animal. I've had my E92 M3 since 2016 and it STILL makes me smile every time i drive it. A modern classic
I own a 2010 M3. Bought at 25k miles now on 65k. One wheel speed sensor gone. That’s it. It’s very reliable. Throttle actuators go. That’s £650 and you can wait for those to fail. You will know about rod bearings and they are about £1550. I don’t worry about them at 65K because I bought the car on 25K. Theory is car is thrashed from cold. It’s way better than the S 85 engine in the M5. People move on to M4s, get bored quickly and go back to E92s.
Amazing to hear it’s treated you so well! It’s always the way, the vast majority of M3 owners have probably had little to no issues, but enough have had problems to cause a bit of fear in the community!
@@CarsWithJB all over blown on the internet. People repeating the same of thing, reading and repeating it. All cars have their problems like Porsche and the RMS issue. Pay £1550 extra to fix if you must 🤷♂️
Not overblown at all, the m3 I bought had a full engine rebuild at around 66k miles. Needed full crankshafts etc , 5k job. and the throttle actuators also went 😂. The main bearings issue recently being pushed by fcp euro might be slightly overblown though. The dct on mine is ponderous in traffic but when going full blast it is super quick and doesn't usually cause issues. Man owners go well over 100k miles
@@andyp8464 I think it’s overblown with the RBs. Not many people have engines go more than once if at all. The TAs will fail at maybe around 70K or so. It’s a £650 cost to fix and with a lifetime guarantee. These are 11 -17 years old now. I have the DCT and thinks it’s great. Road testers say so too even by today’s standards.

Just the cars I had available, definitely wanna give them a go soon too!

Having recently purchased a b7 rs4 the wingbacks and fbsw are a must on the interior but wow its a great car
It’s a beast - loved driving it!
Many years ago, I met an Audi test driver, and after hearing him talk about them, they've been my dream daily (an RS4 Avant, probably).
RS4. Favourite car ive owned. Definitely opt for the wingback interior and flat bottomed steering wheel though.
